My boys (5 and 7 years old) and I love listening to the Wow in the World podcast so I was so excited to get an advanced copy of the newest book Wow in the Wild! My boys loved the quizzes at the beginning of each chapter and the pictures/comics included throughout kept my 5 year old entertained while learning a lot of interesting facts. The way the book is laid out was perfect for my 7 year old to read without getting too overwhelmed with all the facts. There is so much great information but presented in such a kid-friendly way, that my boys love this and we will definitely be rereading it!

*Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy. Opinions are my own.

I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy from Netgalley. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

What a great book for kids! It’s like reading a comic book while learning about animals. Not only is it filled with information, but it’s funny and engaging. It also has a helpful glossary at the end.

There was a lot in here that I didn’t know. For example, did you know that 10 years ago biologists estimated that there are over 8.7 million species of animals on Earth, and we have only identified about 1.2 million species? That one tidbit alone would be a good topic for discussion.

This is my favorite type of book for children: it is fun and engaging all while they’re learning.

I received an Advance Reading Copy of this book Clarion Books. This is an amazing book about animals. My grandson, who loves animals, will love it! I love the way the facts are embedded in the book so cleverly and easily accessible to kids. Lots of graphics, pictures, little comic strips, and covers all types of animals. My grandson is in the first grade, and may need some guidance from his Mom at first, but I think he will continue to grow into this book.
I highly recommend this book.

Magnificent pictures, easy chunks of information on a variety of types of animals. This was a delight to read and one of those titles that goes well beyond the focused age range. Older kids with lower reading levels can still be engaged without feeling too childish for reading it.

Thanks to NetGalley nd Clarion Books for an early read!

This cartoon-style book is chock full of great information on birds, reptiles, mammals, fishes, and insects. The illustrations and bite sized information will make this highly engaging and accessible to kids ages 7-13. Connections to physics, animal behavior, and other subfields of biology make for great discoveries and “ah-ha” moments. Accurate enough to support classroom instruction; varied enough to not easily loose kids’ interest. Reminded me a lot of the style of the ‘Horrible Science’ series.

Having not listened to their podcast, I didn't have any familiarity with the authors/narrators, but you don't need to in order to appreciate their kid-friendly, comedic style of talking about animals and their interesting facts. The book is broken down into birds, reptiles, mammals, sea creatures, bugs, amphibians, and conservation. While I like the almost graphic novel style, I wish there were more photos of the animals. You could open the book up to any page and learn a few facts, or you can read it cover to cover. I like the ads geared towards animals, especially mobile homes. I also liked the pages differentiating alligators and crocodiles and frogs and toads. They do explain that keratin is the stuff that makes up our hair and fingernails multiple times, and it got repetitive. There's a table of contents, glossary, index, bibliography, and recommended reading and listening to make this a well-done non-fiction book.

WOW! This Book! You can literally feel the energy of our two hosts, Mindy and Guy as they narrate the entire book with their usual podcast banter (so fun to read and imagine their voices!) It’s like the book comes to life! And not only that, it’s FILLED with all kinds of animal science fun facts! The book is broken down into animal/insect, kingdom/phylum sections and each ends with a fun quiz for retention. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to your curious elementary student/kids.
Thanks to #NetGalley for an advanced readers copy for an honest review. I had a lot of fun reading this with my son! We listen to the podcast daily, too!

Highly engaging book chock full of information on the animal kingdom. From crocodiles and tardigrades to drill monkeys and quokka, animal facts abound. For instance, did you know that one eyeball of a giant squid is bigger than a whole human head?
Fun, educational book that will appeal to all readers.

This was a pretty good book about animals and pretty interesting but the reason it only got four stars is because sometimes they would throw in random stuff that didn’t really make any sense why it would go there.

The animal kingdom gets the full “WITW” treatment. This has joined the first WOW book in my daughters nightly rotation. Fascinating and informative, great for any curious kid.

The newest Wow in the World and this time we are going to find out all there is about animals!

It took over a year but in April I could FINALLY buy this one. Finally Amazon had it in stock along with a good price. And then in May it was time! Finally I could dig into this book~

In this delightful book we find out everything from insects to flappy birds to not so flappy birds to mammals and marsupials to fishes and marine mammals and so much more. And all done in a fun creative, hilarious, funny, interesting way. With tons of illustrations, fun quizzes (are you a bird?), fashion magazines with the latest trends (like for horns or feathers), to a language course (can you speak Whaaaalllle?), conversations between Guy/Mindy and also sometimes even animals, every page has a fun surprise and I was just enjoying myself immensely. Mindy and Guy on their own, well that would work, as they can write really well, but the illustrations, the comics, everything, it just brings it even further to life to the point that you just don’t want to stop reading!

I love that the book is split up in sections highlighting different species, from birds to fish. And then highlighting all sorts from the more famous and known ones to some more unknown critters. Once again though, the insect part was hard to read. This girl ain’t that big on insects. shivers

The facts are really fun to read and while I knew a lot of them already, there were still a few that weren’t that known to me. I just love it when a book about a topic I love can still surprise me!

All in all, highly recommended (along with the other two books that are out). I hope that Mindy and Guy write many many more books like this, I want more!
