After We Came Home is a Male/Male Romance and the first book in a series of 7.
Trigger Warnings are in the front of each book.
There are scenes of C-PTSD episodes an attempted suicide attempt on-page. This is a series of seven books. By the end of each book, there is a HEA for each couple and the overall storyline will conclude in the seventh book.
Frances Regan is a new pen name for F.R. D'Angelo. They are NB, and pronouns are They/Them/Their/We.
"It didn't feel like I was my authentic self, using a pen name. It wasn't working out mentally for me. So, I went back to my own given name."
Frances Regan fully enjoys writing for their characters; they are the men that make us laugh, make them cringe, they are utterly shameless. Making them draw stick men, then telling them to check with their editor to see if their positions will work. (Shakes head)
In a world where some things are black and white, why should love not be in colour?
I was captured by the blurb and excited to read this story…overall it was a great storyline, however I felt it needed a LOT of editing and proofing. I loved the MCs Sam and Rafe. Their story is heartbreaking and endearing. Their love was beautiful and it showed in how they took care of one another. My issues with this story was how it seemed to jump around a lot. It was hard to figure out if Sam was talking or Rafe. There was no distinction between the two and I had to backtrack a lot & reread portions to figure it out. It also felt like there needed to be soooo much more editing done. There were a lot of run on sentences but then right next to it was an incomplete sentence…it was so confusing!!!
I really like the storyline and what appears to be the arc of the story that will continue in the next books and I really did love Sam and Rafe so I will keep on going and see how this goes
Good premise with the world dystopia in the opening of the book, but the main focus is about sexual awakening and exploration between two ex military buddies. Besides the new tech for disabilities, this almost could be happening in contemporary times. Would have loved more blending of this world building after the solar flashes. Hoping the next books does.
-Possible spoilers- Dual pov. I don't like this author's writing style at all. The book comes off as being sloppily written. The grammar's off and the pov changes from Sam's to Rafe's every other sentence. Both MC's often call each other by name twice in the same sentence, which seems a bit much. They sound very unnatural and it's as if they're reading a screenplay out loud. I couldn't connect with both the MC's and the story itself.
DNF @ 36%. I was so annoyed by the writing that I couln't find the motivation to finish the story.
I noticed this is Regan's first published book, so hopefully their writing style will improve over time.
This is a new author to me and as I understand this is her first published work. I was drawn in by the blurb because it was everything I'm usually looking for (not to mention the cover is great). Don't understand my rating wrong - this is a very talented writer and some parts of the book are great, I loved the characters, the story, the dystopian world she created, but there were some issues I couldn't ignore. Editing and plot consistency issues on nearly every page. Wrong or misplaced wording in some cases and not all from spell check or autocorrect. Choppy writing in some places. Inserting missing peaces of the past or physical descriptions at random almost as an afterthought and interrupting the current scene is not a way to go. And that's proofreaders and definitely editors job. A good one should have been able to catch most of them, advise and correct. Sadly a potentially 5 star read left me annoyed and wanting. Nevertheless I'm not giving up on this author and I'll try the next book in this series.
After We Came Home is Book 1 in the Solar Flash series. I really liked the idea of this book but found it a bit confusing and contradictory at times. It seemed to jump around too much for me. The setting also seemed too modern for what had happened to the planet, life as usual as it were. I enjoyed Rafe and Sam's relationship and how caring Sam is with Rafe. I would read more of this series just to see how Rafe's leg heals and if they can get it back to the way it was before the blast. I am curious to see where the series will go and how Sam and Rafe's relationship will develop.
I don’t know what I was expecting when I started this novel but such a beautiful love story wasn’t it. Sam and Rafe are so sweet and perfect together and even though they struggle they get through it together. Please read and heed the trigger warnings if you have any. I will say the story is kind of complex and I sometimes had a hard time understanding what was going on but the premise is very unique. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
This was fantastic!! I wasn’t sure what I was getting from reading the blurb, but it ended up being a wonderful, romantic story!! The story line has a lot of promise. Sam and Rafe are perfect for one another! Their struggles are real. They were fantastic, complex and flawed men. This was really well written, highly recommend! I am voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
DNF at 6%. You name it; it wasn't working for this story. The entire prologue was a mass of info dump that wasn't needed, although I'm sure the author wanted to give us the detailed world-building everyone was "20" years ago. As for the writing, it was extremely choppy and there were words missing from sentences. I was lost in the medical technicalities that hadn't been researched. Not sorry... moving on.
This book was awesome start to a new Dystopian series and cant wait to read the next book. We see the journey that Sam goes on and the emotional will tear you down. The strength and guts the characters have will bring a scope of another time
Very good book. Love story with struggles and let's you know love can and will prevail. Rafe and Sam's story was refreshing for me. It deals with PTSD which I totally understand. The love between the two is so full and vibrant. It is a story that comes full circle
This story had everything I want in a book. Passion. Angst. Raw emotions. Humor. A great plot. A wonderful end. Basically, I just loved "After We Came Home" because Rafe and Sam deeply touched my heart.
Sam and Rafe stole my heart. I had a few expectations going in. Action, check. Heat, definitely a check. Romance, check. What I wasn't expecting were the moments of sweetness that made me sigh and laugh. The PTSD flashbacks that were so real I couldn't breath and I wanted to cry for Sam as he was going through them. Or how badly I wanted both of them to feel whole after the war had taken so much from them. I was expecting a hard hitting military romance and this book is all that and more. I am looking forward to book 2 and to see where this series goes. Definitely check it out.
this was amazing... and so very very heartbreaking in so many spots.. it broke me... and put me back together.. i loved the dark of this.. i loved the light... it was all around well written and i cant wait for the next one to come out. i am super excited for them! very good job
