Ever since Tash's grandfather Darkheart revealed the big family secret—Tash and her triplet sisters were born of a vampire slayer—Tash's life has been a series of surprises. But none of that prepared her for the possibility of turning vamp herself.
That's the good news. The bad? The most gorgeous man she's ever laid eyes on is over two hundred years old. And one of her sisters wants to stake him, while the other wants to doom him to a life of tortured guilt. Worse yet, with a new Queen Vamp in town, it's up to Tash to infiltrate her army. As a semihuman, there's no danger of Tash falling under Lady Jasmine's control. Or so she thinks….
Harper Allen is a Canadian writer of romance novels. She is a four-time nominee for a Career Achievement Award by Romantic Times Book Reviews magazine and her novel Dressed To Slay was named the magazine's choice for Best Silhouette Bombshell of 2006.
Her Irish ancestry lends them a touch of Celtic mysticism, while her work as a reporter in the criminal court system gives her books a darker edge, first and foremost each one is a story about a man and a woman falling in love and holding on to that love. Her characters have always been real people with real flaws, desperately struggling to find the love that will redeem them - and for that Harper need look no further for inspiration than her own life.
Harper grew up in a blue-collar motor city, and with comments such as "Does not play well with others" on her grade-school report cards. Underneath the motorcycle leathers and the rose tattoo, beats the heart of a true romantic. The day she met the man who eventually became her husband, she told her sister, "I've just met the man I'm going to marry. How long do you think it'll take him to figure it out?" They married, and had little kids, who aren't the first ones picked for the volleyball team. Her idea of a great date with her husband is going to a baseball game. Her idea of a great baseball game is any one in which the Red Sox win.
This one centered on the third triplet. The thing that annoyed me most was that the series seemed to focus more on fashion and name-dropping than on vampires and romance. Totally not what I was looking for when I picked these novels up. I have finally finished and overall, I think there was a god intention, but for me it fell flat with the whiny personalities and the slave-to-fashion mentality of all three sisters.
WARNING! This may not be a fair and balanced review.... Well, maybe it is but I felt the need to put a disclaimer considering some people out there might actually like this book though I have no idea why. I figure the best way to about this review is to summarize and add in my thoughts as we go because, honestly, the time to sum up this plot will only take about 500 characters. Soooo, we'll start with the heroine. Who is by far the worst female character I have ever read, hands down. Not only is she desperate to be funny and witty, she is extremely annoying and honestly, she's not a good person. She is vain and selfish and spoiled. She lashes out at anyone who offers advise on how to better herself while playing the woe is me card at every possible chance. It began at childhood really but the conflict in this book began when she, above her 2 warrior sisters, was chosen to be marked by the evil Vampire queen. The heroine may not have all of the limitations yet like living in darkness and killing and murdering but she is experiencing blood cravings. She tries to hide it from her sisters but they find out and stage an intervention to offer her the Heal, which will save her soul if it works but damn her if it doesn't. Typical, she rejects their offer. The relationship between the 3 sisters was very unbalanced and uncomfortable. It really seemed like they were true enemies rather than family and most of it has to be with the heroine's differences from them. Not just the vampire hunter/vampire thing but also mentality. The hero, if that's what you chose to call him as he is in fact the closest this book came to a male lead, is a very old-fashioned vampire who is bound to the evil queen. Despite this, the heroine enjoys a late-night date but in the follow day, she discovered he had betrayed her and given his queen valuable information.
This leads to the death of a good friend to the heroine which in turn sparks the desire for the death of the bitch responsible. She storms the gates with guns blazing...only to discover it won't be that easy to kill the powerful queen, who figured? Instead the book takes a turn to show a tiny sliver of romance between the heroine and the man enslaved to the queen but eager to help the heroine in any way he can. BU, he dies shortly after leaving the heroine to flee to her sisters to warn them of the pending war the queen is starting. There you have it. Such as it is. Returning to the disclaimer in the beginning, I feel the end to start this warning because once I realized this was in fact an urban fantasy NOT a romance, I mentally gave up any interest in the plot. However, the question is, if this book had more romance, or even a little romance at all, would it have been an improvement and the answer is no. I hated every single one of the characters to the point where it became a psychical pain in my ass. No redeemable qualities in any of them. The plotline was extremely dull and boring with the scenes so dragged out and over analyzed that I wanted to throw the book across the room. Why, if I hated this book so much have I decided to keep it you may be asking yourself? Answer-2017 Reading Challenge. Damn it, I will read my 150 books by June and if I must suffer with the knowledge of this poop in my library then so be it...it can tossed away next year anyway.
Tashya Crosse didn't expect to the the Crosse sister to fulfill her destiny by becoming a vampire. She also didn't expect to fall in love with Heath Lockridge...a 200 year old vampire. When a new Queen Vamp comes to town, Tash decides to infiltrate her army. As a semi-human, she figures Lady Jasmine will not be able to control her. Well, she's in for a surprise.
I was bored with this book. It's too much like the other two books in the series. Nothing new. My rating: 2 Stars.
Overall, a pretty good series. I had trouble with the "flighty" characters, (Crosse Triplets) and to follow their thought process was a little difficult. After a bit of reading I was able to settle into their thoughts and it read easier. I liked that each sister got a book, how they came to terms with what they are.
Okay so this is the third and final book in the Darkheart & Crosse trilogy and it was brilliant. If there was another book I'd be searching for it, but sadly there isn't. This is a must read book and series. The characters are fabulous, yes sometimes you'd love to give them a big shake but then the next moment you're cheering them on. Loved this book so much.
*SPOILER ALERT* This is the last book in this trilogy, and she killed the love interest and 2 other (supporting) characters. Hated it! Not for the end of the series! Boo Hiss!!
