After witnessing his son’s birth, Captain Justin Spencer contemplates leaving active duty in the Coalition Defense Force for a training post. New pilots straight from the academy are sorely unprepared for combat conditions, just like he was when the war with the League of Sol began. But after a year of intense dogfights, the CDF can’t afford continued losses from ill-equipped rookies.
Especially when disaster strikes.
Pirates target a civilian starliner, forcing the CSV Zvika Greengold to renew an old acquaintance. The intelligence agent’s methods are unorthodox at best, but Colonel Tehrani is determined to avenge the innocent.
No matter the cost.
Sustained CDF presence in neutral space brings back bad memories of Terran Coalition overreach in the fiercely independent outposts. But to flush out the culprits responsible for the horrific tragedy, Justin and the Greengold will go wherever the evidence takes them.
Even when their actions threaten to start another war.
Battlegroup Z has done away with the pirates and lost many friend and almost lost their honer
Battlegroup Z has been growing up. And losing many of their friends and team mates. They have watched the pirates grow and kill civilians as well as them and their anger has expanded each time they respond and still can’t stop the raiders before they kill more unarmed civilians. Shot down ore carriers that don’t have enough defenses and leave their battlegroup defeated and torn apart after each battle. But they keep hitting at them trying to get the upper hand each time it gets closer and it has to go our way sometime. But we still have to keep our humanity the one thing that makes us different.
Iron Hand is Book 5 in Battlegroup Z by Daniel Gibbs. Iron Hand finds Captain Justin Spencer rushing home for the birth of his son, Owen. When Justin returns to CSV Zvika Greengold, they are after Pirates. Daniel Gibbs always has crisp writing and a deep understanding of military engagement. But, he delves into a hard arena, when is it morally right to disregard an order. When the Pirates target innocent civilians, Senior Officer Tehrani crosses the line and wants revenge. When she orders an unlawful order, what will Captain Spencer do? Daniel Gibbs dealt with this problem masterfully. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
Another nearly impossible book to put down! Art simulating life in scifi one may say.
For those that still listen to that little voice that tells us right from wrong, good from bad, this book shows how even the best of people, or the so called sheep dogs of humanity, can let themselves down. No matter how hard we try, there comes a time we are pushed so far off base by those whom are simply BAD, that we can let our honor slip and be totally ashamed after, when we do not listen to that little voice and let rage rule. For those whom hold honor close and protect the many we salute you!
Good Job Daniel keep sharing your writing and we will keep supporting you!
This author has a real talent for making the emotional cost of war clear without being robotic or overly emotive in doing so. In this novel, the author draws that invisible line between justice and revenge razor-thin and I can see the characters, no matter how good, cut themselves as they toe it or step on it toward the stated goal of protecting innocents. How very touchingly and painfully human. Sins, falls and second chances - all this, together with a thrilling action-packed military engagement; this is definitely worth reading.
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a good book with lots of action in space and on planets as well as space habitats or space stations. There was some awesome space battles in this book with fighters and bombers. They lost a lot in this one half their main fighting forces and a lot of civilians. There was a point that I didn't think that the ship would make it out in one piece also some battle lines were almost crossed but thanks to certain people they were spared. My problem is if they captured some of these ships why not reverse engineer some of the better weapons and put them to use on their own stuff. Well off to the next one.
Sci-fi series that keeps on giving you more in every single book so far and I look forward to starting the next when it becomes available. I loved this book as we all have flaws in our characters and it showed human emotional acts at its worst and best.
Great continuation of the story of the Greengold and crew. The League is paying pirates to attack civilian shipping carrying rare materials that are needed for the war effort. The coalition sends the Greengold out to fight the pirates again. Great story and now on to the final book in this series.
Each one of this series's books has left me satisfied. One reads for pleasure and as a pastime. This series has been both. It seems a repeating theme for me about Mr. Gibbs but the Sunday School is still there. I don't really mind and it's a good story he is telling. I can't say much more.
I like the action, the characters, the story. Started it and didn't stop until I finished. This is one of my favorite authors and so far, none of his books have disappointed me. Waiting for the next one.
Another Outstanding Book in the Battlegroup Z Series. I found it to be an easy read and also easy to follow. I have already downloaded Book # 6, Final Flight.
Series improves with better characterization and less political stuff. Author could leave out some repetitive and annoying phrases, paw the vacuum is one.
