When your gun-nun friend says, “Go to Sin City for a classified mission,” you book a flight to Vegas.
But Jane doesn’t even make it to the super secret meeting before her life hits the fan. Sana Baba’s hit team is on her trail and her mentor, Dahl, is apparently possessed by the consciousness of an evil, fictional Arthurian villain.
Where, in the utter tornado of events is she going to find time to consider her boyfriend’s proposal? They’ve known each other for like, five minutes, right?
It may be a moot point if Jane dies in action. She’s drained her magical reserves so much that even healing a paper cut will put her in the grave. It’s going to take all of Jane’s courage, propensity for bending the rules, and disregard for authority to stand up to the extranatural jerk off trying to take over Dahl’s life and send it back beyond the barrier of reality.
Neon Redemption is an urban fantasy adventure with a dose of Sumerian, Arthurian, and modern mythologies, and a dash of romance. Fans of Quentin Tarantino, Tamsyn Muir, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer will enjoy the cheeky writing, toasty romance, and technicolor brawls.
VK Fox is an Amazon Best Selling, 2021 Indie Top 20, and Literary Titan Silver award winner. In the longer term V has been a professional world builder, story teller, and weird history expert for twenty years. Her darkly whimsical style marries these skills to a passion for romance, an obsession with folklore, love of classic literature, and goosebumps.
I love this series already and can’t wait for the rest to come out. VK Fox has created such a unique universe full of literary Easter eggs and fun twists on old magic. The golemancy in this book provided excellent comic relief while staying true to the history of golems, a balance that I really enjoyed. It was great to get to know some of the other characters and see the price they pay for using their literary super powers.
Thank you for continuing my series! This book gets much deeper into character dynamics, relationships, and motivations - I hope you enjoy getting to know the cast of book #1 more deeply while meeting some new players as the balance of reality continues to wobble. From my heart to your mind, all of my creative love <3
I got to read an advanced copy of this book and it's amazing. VK Fox does a fantastic job with their characters and the drama that drives them. The lines between friend and enemy are deliciously blurry, with no one cartoonishly evil nor purely noble. Great representation too.
The writing style is fast and fun, the 90s callbacks are spot on, the magic system is refreshingly unique, but man oh man that fight scene. I'm not going to spoil anything. I promise. I also know I am going to sound like I'm overselling, but hear me out. That fight scene is the best I've ever read. Allegiances are tested, and some fail. Who's on who's side is a constant tug of war, with serious revelations hitting mid-combat. The combat is good even if you separate the characters from the action itself, but combined with the motivations of each person involved this is my number one final conflict of any book I've ever read.
I did not finish this book. I may come back to it because I really liked the first one, but this one is hard to get into. I still like the main character, but the focus has shifted away from her. That coupled with every other chapter or so being a flashback and some additional drama over the relationships that seems awkward, and I'm finding it hard to continue.
There's a lot of good in the book. I like the author's writing style and Jane's a confident, competent protagonist with a good sense of right and wrong and a very strong sense of what constitutes appropriate boundaries when interacting with other people. She's a fascinating character, and I wish this book would spend more time with her and less on the other characters.
An amazing sequel to the first book! I really enjoyed how the story unravels more with Daul (he's my favorite) and I can't wait to see more of what happens with him in the third book! The characters are really dynamic too! They have a fantastic feel, and each one is unique. I can really hear the voices of each character as they are written.
There is also some very tastefully written romantic adult scenes, which I really enjoyed. The author did a fantastic job of keeping it sexy without going over the top!
I very much recommend this book and it's predecessor.
This is the second in The Words Of Power series. The author has switched POV and introduced many new characters. Once you find your feet with these changes, the story continues with the same arc of possible world and imminent personal destruction. A much grittier story but still highly readable.
A beautiful book! Loved characterization across the board. I am a very character-based reader, and this really fulfills on the first book's promises- deepening relationships and character arcs, oh my!
I liked the ending, but had a really hard time getting into it at first, and admittedly couldn't remember who most of the characters were, or their theoretical alliances.
Despite more erotic details than necessary to move the story forward, it was still a very good read. Various relationships have been fleshed out and more details into what's going on provided.
I'm not big on the "romance" aspects of the book. Luckily for me they were outweighed by the action. Lots of fights, lots of mysteries, lots of fun. Hard not to get whiplash the book moves so fast.
