No matter what I say, both the Arcane Authorities and the Arcane Council deny any witch involvement in the kidnapping and slaughter of the shifters and vampires.
It’s total bullsh*t. I know what I saw, and I’ll prove it.
But just when I think I’m onto something—disaster strikes. A student is found dead on Academy grounds. Drained of blood. A gnarly bite mark in her neck.
Naturally, all fingers point to my familiars. I could understand why they’d be obvious suspects; except they were with me when it happened. And it couldn’t have been the dangerously sexy vamp who’s been visiting me after dark, either right? Draven wouldn’t do that. I’m sure of it.
So, then who? Why?
One thing becomes terrifyingly clear after the second body is found—the longer we take to figure it out—the more students will wind up dead.
NOTE: This series was previously published under the same series title of Arcane Arts Academy however, these versions have been altered to include lots of bonus content and all-new chapters from the guys' points of view!

2.5-3 Stars. Honestly I'm still intrigued by this series, I just feel like dang we are on book 3 here. Shouldn't we have a little bit more answers by now. The reveals are really slow and the questions just keep pouring in. I still like our FMC just fine, though, she does miss a lot of obvious stuff and it bugs me at times. Important, flag raising, info will just roll across the page and she won't even pick up on it even if it does actually raise flags for her.. she just gets distracted quite easily. As far as the relationship with the guys.. I'm still a little on the meh fence. There seemed to be a lot of insta and then not much follow up to really build up what I would call "real" feelings.
At this point, I'm just not sure this is really my jam. It's interesting enough to want to know what is happening but I just feel like the characters and the reader just keep getting distracted by "filler." I probably going to shelve this for a while and see how I feel later.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
We pick back up with the two shifters having to go through the ceremony that will remove them from their pack since they can only have one Alpha bond. Of course Harper's bond is the strongest though it is rough for her to witness what they have to go through. Just as she is getting them settled in on campus close to her a a series of murders start happening that point right at them. This leads to all kinds of twists, turns, and surprises as they try to figure out what is going on before things get too bad. Superbly written in a way that keeps you totally hooked on the story unfolds until you hit the very last page. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
OMG 😲 what a Ride! This series once again has me stunned at the end of the book and this time also bawling my eyes out! Carrying on from book 2 this sees more of the reverse harem relationship develop between Harper and her men though still slowly progressing and brings in more mystery and twists and turns galore and that ending well my emotions are still reeling!! Well done to the author, I can’t wait for the next book!
A Much Smoother Read!!👍 (Read using Kindle Unlimited)
This was a tense, well paced & somewhat romantic read!😍 Elias, Adrian & Cal all become aware & excepting of each other. Harper admits her feelings for all 3 to them as well.💘 She hasn't quite excepted she has the same feelings growing for the vampire, Draven, too.
This storyline flowed much better for me. Even her relationship with Elias didn't seem so icky 🙈 Her circle of trust is growing as murders start occurring on Academy grounds!!😱😭 During a trip to her ancestral home Martin, the Butler, tells her her true birth date!🎉✨
This book has love, trust, friendship, murder & loss. There are some steps forward made in Harper's quest to discover what her Dad's journal is hiding though!!👍 I look forward to more in book #4 if it's of this better standard🌟
I’m done with this. I should have known from the series title, “reverse harem”, that this girl would be a disappointment. Also, The plethora of f-bombs and other swear words along with the poor editing just grated on my last nerve. It’s sad really, because the story is intriguing. I will not be reading any more from this author. “Vulgarity is no substitute for wit”. —Downton Abby.
Ok, this isn't just a nod to HP anymore, this is more like re-telling. When it became clear (pretty early on) that the story wasn't going to be concluded in this book all I could think was I just want to be done with it. At this point it reads more like a patch-job of a bunch of other stories or like I said a re-telling of HP of sorts ... full of plot holes, editorial issues, lack of character development plus reveals/surprises that fail to well... surprise. I keep having to remind myself that they're teenagers and therefore are supposed to be acting reckless, stupid, selfish and immature. Note to self: I'm simply too old for YA books unless they're really well written and original (neither of which this is).
Wow! This third book upped the stakes of this series, putting its characters in more danger than ever before. With its sinister schemes and dangerous secrets plaguing the grounds of the academy, Harper and her men have no choice but to uncover the truth, hoping their meddling doesn't attract more danger than they’re trying to prevent. As the third entry in this series, this book acts as a transition from the MC’s innocent academy days and into a more complicated adulthood, taking readers on a journey filled with deadly conflict, teasing heat, and more ancient mysteries that beg to be solved. As always, a list of trigger warnings is included at the end of my review.
Much like the previous title, the plot in this book picks up right where the last left off, maintaining a quick pace and planting seeds for both the main plot, and also for the overarching plot in the series as a whole. With more mysterious happenings going on, this book was hard to put down; it kept my attention throughout all the different POVs as I tried to learn the truth along with the characters, never giving too much away to keep the suspenseful atmosphere high. Though I think the author did a fantastic job with writing this entire book, I have to shout out the climax! It was my favourite in the series yet, and I’m so excited to read the next books to see how everything is resolved.
The romances in this book picked up significantly from the previous books, adding more heat to the plot and laying the foundations for more intimate relationships as the series progresses. The shared feelings of support and understanding between the MC and her men are still present, making for a natural transition into more without any miscommunication between the group. It should also be mentioned that the MC is finally a legal adult in the book at about 80% in, meaning anything further that happens within this magically connected group is between adults (though stuff does happen when she’s technically still a minor; check TWs for details). I’m excited to see more of this group of characters as they tackle both the dangers they face, and adjust to the new reality of the connection between them all.
If you like books with an intricate plot and a magically connected group of characters, give this series a shot!
TRIGGER WARNINGS: Due to context, spoilers ahead.
UNDERAGE MC: Unfortunately, the MC is still underage as things progress in her different relationships with (for now) four different older men. Though she’s only a couple months away from her eighteenth birthday (and eventually has her birthday during the book) she is still underage when she starts to get more intimate with the men, though the magical connections between them all are used to explain away the reason for these older men to have a relationship with someone who is legally still a minor.
The relationship with her professor is more tame than in previous books, but is still a big part of the plot with them sharing kisses and embraces throughout. The MC’s new relationship with an almost two hundred year old vampire is all flirting and a brief moment of heated light touching, but as the relationship is quite new, nothing beyond that happens. The biggest difference is an on page spicy moment between the MC and her two shifter familiars. Like I said before, at this point in the book she’s only weeks away from being a legal adult, but it was still uncomfortable reading about a barely eighteen year old getting intimate with two twenty-something men who—though they share a magical bond and wouldn’t do anything to hurt or take advantage of each other—should know better. I understand it’s all fiction and all that, but this could’ve been avoided if the MC was aged up by the author.
MENTAL HEALTH: This book continues with the brash language around the MC’s family history with mental illness, often referring to her ancestors as crazy, psychotic, or insane. I still think the way the MC speaks about her ancestors is a part of the plot (meaning she, like others, misunderstand their mental health struggles as general “madness” rather than a byproduct of the power they possess) but as of now, all the language surrounding the mental illness in her ancestry is negative.
This book also includes several graphic scenes involving blood (on page).
I felt sadly disappointed by “Of Beasts and Blood”, the third installment of the Arcane Arts Academy series.
I had been so excited after the small extract that was shared before it’s release, but I found that the book itself was lacking in real substance. I kept waiting in desperate anticipation for the more-ness that just never came.
I fell in love with the main characters in Book 1 and as others were introduced in Of Wolves and Witches, I was definitely intrigued by one or two. However, I felt that Book 3 was sorely lacking in character development, relationship development, any forward movement on the multiple mysteries at hand and very, very little additional information on key characters.
I am so sad that I even have to write this.
I was filled with so much anticipation and ended up deflated with disappointed; the book just felt like a filler that we could have done without because it could have been built up so much more.
The only major happening was the saddest and most senseless loss at the end, because why, oh, why do bad things happen to good people (who hadn’t contributed at all to solving the ever-growing mysteries thanks to centuries old family promises of loyalty and devotion). That made zero sense to me. Why did it have to be him????
There were some good moments that I dearly wish had been more expanded, so I am grateful for the moments. I have been Team Harper since Book 1 and even in this one she was frustrating me greatly with her secrets and omissions and she seemed to be PMS-ing for a large part of this book.
But despite my frustrations, I am still Team Harper Plus 4 – It is my great hope that Book 4 reignites and fortifies the deep affection that I have for pre-book 3 Harper.
This series keeps getting interesting. I would like to say not much is happening to Harper’s relationship physically. Well, there are some steamy scenes.
Okay, so back to the main story. If you’ve read from the last book, Cal and Adrian had their bond from the pack removed because of their relationship with Harper.
As that happened, they currently live at a property in the school if I’m not mistaken. Anyways, all isn’t well at the academy as somebody is murdering students and it isn’t going well for Harper as they are blaming her familiars.
We only learn a little bit of what her father was researching but there isn’t much to go on from there. There are still many secrets involving her family that she needs to discover and especially what her father was up to.
I just can’t believe the ending. Grab your tissues ready because I cried at the end. I never expected that to happen and it feels as though I’m with Harper on this one. My heart wouldn’t be completely whole. Writing this review and thinking back on the ending still makes me teary-eyed. Her home would never be the same.
I can’t wait to see more of Harper’s relationship with the guys especially if a vampire could possibly be part of her harem. I do wonder if her harem is complete or would there be one more like a Fae maybe?
What I can’t wait to find out is who the evil mastermind is and if the curse with the other supernaturals will be lifted.
I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This one was 3.5 stars for me. I thought it started out strong and from the little sneak peek Elena had given, I was excited to read it. I was hoping for more romance between Harper and Cal & Adrian as well as between Harper and Elias. And there were more steamy moments between Harper and her familiars as well as between her and her professor and even moments between her and Draven. I liked seeing that and seeing Harper grow closer to all of her males. I liked getting so see more of Draven but it would have been nice to get to know more about him. We didn't get to see anything about his life outside of Harper or what he did when he wasn't with her. It was nice to see Cal and Adrian stop fighting the familiar bond and accept what they had with Harper and for them to explore the relationship that was more than just that bond.
I kind of felt like this story was slow and nothing really happened. The mystery of who was killing the students kind of derailed Harper from finding out who was responsible for the events at the end of book two. And her obsession with her father's journal as well took away from that. The story just didn't click with me and I'm hoping that by the fourth book, I'll be back invested. I'd love to see how things turn out for Harper and her friends and her males.
I wanted to like this series so much. In fact I do like it, I just don’t love it. I started book one because the premise of the story was really interesting and I was eager to see where it ended up. Unfortunately, there’s just something, or multiple things, lacking that make it almost impossible to connect with this story. It’s so hard to explain, because I do like the characters and their budding relationships, but I just can’t bring myself to read any more or finish this series which is very disappointing. I’m lacking an emotional connection to the characters and the story, even though I’m interested in both. It’s so frustrating. It was a struggle to get though this book since I just wasn’t interested anymore, but I at least wanted to finish since I’d already started it. Unfortunately I will not be continuing this series. I’m sure the next book will reveal a lot and long awaited details will come to light, but I just can’t. I think the writing was a little…. Immature?…. For me? It’s so hard to put my finger on exactly what went wrong. But if you liked or even loved the books of this series, don’t let my lack of interest dissuade you! It’s just not for me.
I am in absolute love with this series! Elena Lawson continues to impress in the 3rd book of the Arcane Arts Academy series.
This book pickups pretty much where book 2 left off. We find out the fate of Harper’s familiars now that others know of their bond. Elias and Harper continue their super secret but super sexy relationship AND we get more of Draven in this one - yay!
Of course this book continues to look for the answer as to what happened to Harper’s father but Harper and ‘the gang’ are hit with another mystery to solve when students start being murdered and bodies start showing up on campus drained of blood. Of course suspicion is thrown at her familiars and Harper must unravel the mystery of the killings before someone she cares about gets hurt or killed.
This book has twists and turns, super sexy scenes, and I love Harper’s character. The ending is shocking and will leave you ready for the next book in the series.
*Sort of spoilerish but nothing major given away* This instalment felt as though it went really fast - but plenty happening in harpers world - her power is getting stronger the more she works with it , she is growing closer to the men in her life and she is finally coming of age and able to venture outside of school to her own home now. But all is not perfect - her friendship with Bianca is strained and she has been actually strangely, girls are being murdered at school and all fingers are pointing to her familiars - her men are finally discovering that the others in her circle and to top it off she is still trying to work out what her father has hidden in his journal . Once again you are really drawn into the story - I read it in a few hours as I had to know what was going to happen. Can’t wait to see where this goes !
5 stars for Of Beast and Blood by Elena Lawson. This is book three in the Arcane Arts Academy Series. These books are just getting better and better. I think I might just be addicted to the characters and their story. We have Elena,Adrian,Cal and now Draven. I think Draven might just be my favorite but we will have to wait and see. When I read I can normally tell what or where the author is heading with the story but with this one I honestly have no idea and I LOVE IT. Students are being murdered and Cal and Adrian seem to be suspects or maybe it was Draven. Be warned grab some tissues you will need them . I was heartbroken for Harper at the end of this book. I am ready for Harper and her harem of hotties to add some steam to their relationship but it hasn’t really happened yet. Book four is calling my name now, I need to know what is going to happen next
So much mystery and secrets in this novel. I love seeing Harper get more and more confident in herself - about everything. I also love Draven - I'm very intrigued by him and really hope things progress, though I'm not sure at this point. Guess I'll just have to keep reading to find out! Elias is probably my least favorite of the bunch, just because everything has to be hush, hush and she's always keeping him a secret. Cal and Adrian, on the other hand, I'm digging!
The storyline around Bianca was crazy - though I did guess who the culprit could be. Not because that character was mentioned often, but they just stood out to me when we did see some interaction with them.
I'm really, really gutted by this ending!! I loved that character, and I'm so sad to see him gone!!
On to the next one to see what other adventures are about to happen!
So we follow Harper and her boys as she uncovers a little more of the mysteries in her father's journal and tries to find the culprit behind all the murders she has been witnessing. We also follow the evolution of her story and how her harem is slowly being formed. The story is fawless and well written.Warning though! Do not get attached to the characters or you might end this book crying your soul out!! It is a slowburn which is not really my type of story but the main plot is so good that all that comes with it is a bonus. It could read as a YA if it weren't for the RH theme. Still I hope book four will give me more of the Harem touch. As for Marcus and Bianca, we can't but squeal and hope they will have a book of their own.
Harper and the men face more emotionally challenging issues in this book. From facing cutting ties to building their relationship to fighting for truth and justice. The world is becoming more dangerous and complicated for all of them and Harper must try to figure out how to navigate these changes. The world is still precise throughout all the books with no discrepancy and the characters are becoming more intricate the longer the story goes on. It keeps you intrigued without the loss of interest. They say that some series the longer they go on the less precise and interesting it can become. I can assure you that is NOT the case with this series and I cant wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.
I have been off YA/NA since my kids have gotten to around that same age because, as teens do, they drive me crazy, and I can’t help seeing my kids as the main character. But I really enjoy this author’s writing, so I’m along on the journey with this series. In this latest, Harper is dealing with her best friend acting weird, Cal and Adrian’s new living arrangements, and the deaths of a couple students. This was an interesting book, and we learn a few secrets, including Harper’s real birthday. Confession time: I like Draken the best out of all her love interests, and I figured out the murderer with no problems at all, but that wasn’t a big deal as I do that frequently. This was a great addition to the series, and I’m ready for more. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I realize that most people that share my feedback for this book probably gave up on reading the series at this point, but I’m stubborn so here we go.
Again with the editing, or should I say proofreading, how is the FMCs name spelled wrong I the chapter headings at least twice on this book?
The men in this series are not getting the attention they deserve either, the wolves get all the time and character intro, but I honestly couldn’t tell you more than two things about Elias and literally nothing about Draven. Which is a shame because they both seem like they could be interesting character if they had literally any character development.
Also rip Bianca, not that she’s dead just that her character is the laziest plot device I’ve ever seen.
Someone is seriously pissing off the wrong witch! who could possibly be another witch. The enemy is closer than ever! Things start getting more complicated or maybe more interesting for Harper having her sexy familiars near by Adrian and Cal, her new charming vampire friend Draven and her secret relationship with her profesor Elias😬 (at it girl)! This was so much fun to read especially when this sexy quadruple team are together! great chemistry and laugh out moments to die for! So glad we get more romance! That ending is a huge one. 😭 Can’t wait for the next book in this series!!
O. M. G!! Another great book in this series! Without giving out any spoilers, all I can say is please please read this book or start the series if you haven’t already!! Elena does an excellent job with building the plots and characters up and keeping the reader enthralled in the story. She makes you want to keep reading and cry if devastation with the intense endings/cliffhangers. Harper and her relationships with her men are amazing and all I can say is please Elena add Draven to Harper’s harem. The ending of this book helps solve one mystery but just raises even more questions. Who is the leader of the evil group and what is Harpers roll in it all!?
Of Beasts and Blood is the third book in the Arcane Arts Academy and the series just keeps getting better! The series continues with Harper doing her own investigation into the kidnapping and slaughter of the shifters and vampires. With new murders happening on campus, and Cal and Adrian as prime suspects, Harper and her friends are determined to find out who actually did it. This is a fast paced, action packed story full of adventure and twists and turns. I cannot say enough about this writer and I highly recommend her books. If you love reading about magic and shifters then this series is for you. I can’t wait to read what happens next with Harper and her men.
**** No Spoilers **** This is by far the best book of the series. Elena did an incredible job with continuing the storyline. I was captivated from the very beginning. I could not put this book down. Harper has some strange things happen around her. The twists that come near the end blow my mind. The emotions near the end had me in tears. Then ending is a cliffhanger but not one that will make you pull your hair out. •••••• I highly recommend this book/series! •••••• ~~ I was given an advanced readers copy of this book, and I have given my honest opinion. ~~
We have all been waiting on this book to come out and when it does we are crying or wanting to throw the Kindle and say What ??? You have magic mixed with some very hot heat and twists and turns and also a who done it, trying to figure out the message her dad was so involved with . This story is almost like a Mystery Clue story that will have you ask a lot of questions and hopefully doesn't turn out like you think it will... Keep us on our toes with this series, cannot wait for more... This book was reviwed by Book Loving Vixen.
This story picks up 2 weeks after the last ended. Love the growth in Harper and her acceptance of her lineage, as well as her hope and attempt to reverse the curse her ancestor placed on the other races. The wolves are separated from the pack, just as terrible things start to occur at the school. Harper has her familiars on campus now, much to the displeasure of the students who look at them as nothing more than beasts. While Harper, Draven, Cal and Aiden attempt to find who was behind the warehouse, Bianca is getting her memory tampered with. I cannot wait to find out what happens next!
Wow, I swear each book keeps pulling me deeper and deeper into the storyline and doesn’t want to let go! I’m going to have a book hangover for sure because of this. I loved watching the romance between her and Elias (even if in secret) and her other men too. Plus the latest mystery of who’s killing people on campus had me on the edge of my seat! Seriously looking forward to the 4th book as I need answers to so many questions I have!! Must read!!
OMG can't believe how this story is turning out!!! 😱😩... With four hot men at her side, Harper is trying to find out who is behind the students' attack and Bianca's memory loss... Neither of them suspect the horrible truth and danger they will face, but that's not all, what they discover is just the beginning of something more dark and dangerous of what they thought... I need the next book NOW!!! 😵😫😰
I have enjoyed this series from the very begging but the story just gets better and better as it develops and as the characters and their relationships develop. Harper is amazing . She’s so strong, brave and fiercely protective. We get to see her relationships begin to develop and move a little further in this book. I loved that this book had a completion of sorts. Even though we know there is more to come we did find a major part of the story out. This was an awesome read.
