Hold on to your snow beanies for an exciting crossover event! Lacey and James take off for a ski weekend atop Buttercup Mountain. To Lacey's great surprise, she discovers that her friend and fellow sleuth, Sunni Taylor, has booked a room at the same inn for a getaway with her boyfriend, Detective Brady Jackson.
The delightful, cozy and romantic weekend turns into chaos when a large storm interrupts all the festivities. When James and Brady are stranded on the other side of the mountain, Lacey and Sunni are left alone to figure out who is killing the other guests. Worst of all, they wonder, who will be next?

Heh. I must say that teaming Lacey and Sunni up leads to double the trouble. And double the sleuthing. And there was a whole lot less canoodling with her honey bunny than Lacey thought there would be. But that's mostly because James is off bro-ing with Brady which (as you might imagine) leads to even more sleuthing time for Lacey and Sunni.
So. In case you hadn't guessed, a body turns up at the charming inn the couples are staying at and, with James and Brady stuck away from the inn during a snowstorm, Lacey and Sunni step up to figure out the hows and whys. And mayyyybe put themselves in a wee bit of danger. Because what's the point in sleuthing if you're not going to be menaced a time or two, amirite?!?!
Anywho. Lacey, Sunni, and the guys. They don't get to quite spend the couples weekend they were planning, but the ladies do get to prowl a crime scene and put together pieces and, really, that's their thing. Right? So it's a win all around. *thumbs up*
(3.5 Stars) Although "Holly and Horror" is a Port Danby installment, it is also a crossover novel between the characters in Port Danby and Firefly Junction. This time Detective Briggs and Lacey decide to take a getaway vacation at an Inn in Colorado. Lacey is looking forward to some cuddle time and Briggs is looking forward to some skiing on the slopes. Of course, when they arrive at the Inn they weren't expecting to see Sunni and Jax from Firefly Junction. It seems they have also booked a relaxing weekend at the end.
As the other couples arrive at the Inn, they all decide to get to know each other. It doesn't take long for tension and strife to build when one of the guest bowled over another on the slopes leaving him physically sore and angry. There is a bright side though for Briggs and Jax when they discover a professional slope that they cannot wait to try. Of course, there is bound to be some trouble when dealing with Lacey and Sunni. So, Briggs and Jax get stuck at the luxury slopes after a giant snowstorm while Lacey and Sunni discover a dead body at the Inn.
My oh my, what a mess. Well, guess what? It becomes even more complicated when body goes missing and another body is found. However, with Lacey and Sunni on the case, there is bound to be a systematic investigation rivaling the ones Briggs and Jax would have conducted. I enjoyed this read and it was truly fun to see Sunni and Lacy together on a case. My only criticism is that there was hardly any cuddle time with the two couples. A little kissy face always makes a novel sweeter. Lol!
Back in Port Danby with Lacey and James, Lola and Ryder and of course Kingston The Crow and Nevermore the Cat.
Lacey and James are off for a weekend of winter sports leaving Kingston and Nevermore with Lola and Ryder, what could go wrong?
When they reach the resort, Lacey and James bump into Sunni and Jax (from the Forefly Junction books by the same author). Of course, murder is never too far away from Lacey, so when a fellow guest is found dead, Lacey and Sunni investigate.
I really enjoy these books and this once was equally as good as the rest. The books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.
I am looking eagerly forward to the next book being released.
This is the 17th book in the series and it doesn't disappoint. It's also a crossover book with Sunni and Brady from the Firefly Junction series. Lacey and James are hoping for a romantic getaway at a mountain resort when they run into Sunni and Brady. When a winter storm hits, James and Brady are trapped at another resort leaving Lacey and Sunni to solve a murder on their own. The book is well written as always and the characters are likable. I'm looking forward to book 18. I received an ARC of this book.
That poor Kingston, Briggs that was rude, Stuffed and Ready for Thanksgiving, Lola what were you thinking. What started out to be a great weekend ended well but how come the guys did not leave skiing earlier to miss the snow, inconsiderate poops.
Enjoyed both detectives and girl friends being involved together in this one. Kind of pushed the boys out till the end. And sad but I had sympathy for the killer. Must have been devastating to grow up that way.
This is a crossover between Port Danby and Firefly Junction! It was so good! I had the murderer at the top of my list, but didn't figure out why until clues were slowly revealed! Love the way this author weaves a great mystery!!!
4.5 A fun isolated murder mystery. A very small ski inn is snowed in with Lacey and her friend Sunni (from another of the author’s series) solving a double homicide. I want to read the other series now since I liked the characters so much.
Teaming up Lacey and Sunni...best choice you can make. I just love this series. It gets better and better as you go along. Reading the next in the series.
