DAN MARSHALL grew up in a nice home with nice parents in Salt Lake City, Utah, before attending UC Berkeley. After college, Dan worked at a strategic communications public relations firm in Los Angeles. At 25, he left work and returned to Salt Lake to take care of his sick parents. While caring for them, he started writing detailed accounts about many of their weird, sad, funny adventures. Home is Burning is his first book.
I read this in the bathtub this morning. I read "Dad Hacks" a few days ago and this book is nearly identical to it. Yes, there are some new ones but about 75+ % are almost word-for-word identical with the same illustrations. The reason for the 3-star rating is that I feel the author should not re-cycle ideas under the guise of a different title.
Some of these were actually pretty useful, the few I did already know made me feel slightly less suspicious about some of the ones that seemed unbelievable. I liked the authors way of writing, the sarcasm made him more relatable and I loved the illustrations. A fun little book all round!
I got this in for one of our library punters and I couldn't resist having a read. Amusingly written, there were a few I already know and use, a few I aim to use in the future and a few I'd need to try to believe
Although this is cute and there are a few original "hacks," the book itself is a bit of a little bit of stuff in a big package. Not the best value for the amount of content. You could read the entire thing in about 15 min., but I stretched it out to try to get my money's worth.
Life Hacks are kind of a fad these days, and so I hate to admit that I love them, but I do. Who can resist finding a simpler, more efficient, or less expensive way to do things? Certainly not me! Anyway, this is a quick read, and I actually found several new hacks that I am going to use, such as using strawberries as a teeth whitener or pineapple juice to stop coughing. They're worth a try, right?
You will be smiling throughout this very quick read as you realize how the items that you have around the house that you always thought had one specific use can now be reused or recycled in ways that are very helpful but you would normally never think of.
Definitely worth the investment as you find several ideas that you will put to use right away.
Although some are pretty well-known, all of these hacks are easy and inexpensive. And some are downright genius. Now, if I can just remember them when I need some help.
Contains many of the great tips I have seen via Facebook post, all in one handy book. I have to give some of these a try before I return the book to the library. I like the author's sense of humor - especially the labels given in the diagrams.
