Goblin Slayer has enjoyed many an adventure, but the people around him have adventures of their own!
A new spin-off from the wildly popular Goblin Slayer, check out the first volume of Goblin Slayer: Brand New Day, following the people whose lives Goblin Slayer has touched!
I've heard so many crazy things about this series, the anime in particular. Even though I haven't watched the show yet, I figured I'd pick this sucker up and give the story a try. Happy to report that it was really good!
The banter between the characters feels fun and genuine, the art is nice, and there's plenty of action. I expected some dark stuff to happen in the plot, but I didn't realize it would be as graphic as it was. So fair warning for sensitive readers, there are explicit depictions of rape/sexual assault on page. If you can deal with that though, this volume was a pretty solid story. It made me interested in learning more about the characters. I'll probably give the show a shot sometime soon.
I will write a more comprehensive review for Diamond Book, but I had to get something out here.
This would have been 5 stars, it was 5 stars up until the last 8 or so pages.
The book was funny, introduced some side characters to the main Goblin Slayer series, and was a fun read.
Until those last 8 or so pages.
There is a graphic depiction of a rape of an extremely sexualised woman. Most of the women in this volume are sexualized and drawn with huge boobs, but the rape is just atrocious. It is unnecessary and used specifically to sexualize this victim and show a naked woman.
4 stars as the art work is amazing as always, side stories to the main character just like the filler episodes in the anime, enjoyable read as finished in one sitting.
Hey everyone! It's Goblin Slayer the filler episodes!
Okay before saying anything else I do have to warn folks that this series like the regular Goblin Slayer is rated Mature and there are scenes that although are not hentai quality do portray a woman being violated and humiliated by goblins that have captured her. In addition to that the character Goblin Slayer is true to his name and is not squeamish on how he does his job so long as all the goblins have died.
Now with the warning out of the way for those that do not know what filler episodes are they are story content created in an anime that although related to the story is basically stalling for time for the manga to give the animators more to work with after all you don't want the animated version to be drastically different.) When I say this is book is of filler episodes it is a bit of a joke though in reality I can really appreciate the time to create a book that fleshes out the world to include lesser seen characters and allow the world to open even more vividly to the readers through the eyes of those that are not of the main cast (even from a goblin perspective.) So if you are a fan of the Goblin Slayer series already and want to see what else the world has to offer why not take a seat at the table, relax, and see what is on the menu before getting a bonus short story at the end of the book. Padfoot Waitress will insist. :)

If you are watching the anime these chapters are the filler stories mixed in with the original story line. These aren't my favorite stories but they weren't bad. Most of them have to do with background information for characters to give them more depth. Some are purely fan fiction seeing female characters in little to no clothing. I find it interesting that the illustrator is ok with drawing nipples on a rape victim but doesn't on other nude characters.
3.5/5 rounding up. I haven't been able to get a hold of the original Goblin Slayer series yet (trying to get it through the library) and saw that they had this available. Seems like it centers around random characters that interact with Goblin Slayer on their adventure, and might go into a bit more detail about the side characters than the original manga.
I'm enjoying the "vignette" type of writing, and like that I can learn a little more about Goblin Slayer without being confused.
Stories from the world of Goblin Slayer! It is an anthology of stories which expands on the world of Goblin Slayer but not the main plot. The stories are solid with the first story with the Rookies getting into the anime. If you are a fan of Goblin Slayer, then this is worth checking out to get to know some of the side characters better. Newcomers won't get anything out of this.
Probably a 3.5 for me. I don't like a lot of manga, Lone Wolf and Cub being the main exception so far. I wanted to try something different. Not on par with Lone Wolf but decent enough to give more volumes a try.
These stories are all pretty good. Most of them are about peripheral characters from the story with appearances of Goblin Slayer. The last story is all about him and what a nest clearing doozy it is!
An enjoyable edition to the world of Goblin Slayer. It contains four short stories focusing on the everyday trials of the adventurers on the frontier. The first story, echoing the anime, is about a lost weapon in the sewers which again highlights the danger of what is considered a beginner's quest in this world. The second story covers the story of a young boy whose future could have being the creation of an goblin slayer had the actual Goblin Slayer not being involved. It was a touching story of childhood innocence. The third story covers the attempt of very determined waitress to feed Goblin Slayer. It is an amusing side story. The last story was darker than the others, a reminder of horrible nature of the goblins and why they should be eliminated without mercy. It is a reminder that Goblin Slayer will continue his quest no matter what, companions or not. A definite recommendation to those who enjoy the stories of this dark fantasy world.
