I'm a fan of Vicki Lewis Thompson. She's another one of 'my' authors who does humor well and can write a steamy love scene. My problem with this anthology is the extreme difference in writers, tone, and mood. "Winter Heat" is an anthology with three stories connected by setting about the opening of a resort in Colorado.
"Weekend Fling" by Vicki Lewis Thompson. A friends to lovers tale that will leave you with a smile on your face.
"Weekend Tigress" by Jade Lee. A hot, but angst-filled story about a security agent and a tigress-in-training. Still interesting and filled with Asian mysticism.
"Weekend Meltdown" by Anna DeStefano. She's a lawyer pretending to be wild to get over her ex. He's the PR closer hired to promote a more romantic tone. They're working at cross purposes from day one yet their attraction has them breaking all their own rules.
Because of the extreme differences in the stories, this anthology left me feeling confused and NOT romanced or mellow.

This book was 3 stories in 1 book (by 3 different authors. Vicki Lewis Thompson, whos books I usually enjoy. Jade Lee, and Anna DeStefano) All 3 stories take place at the opening of the same Colorado ski resort, Weekend Pass. An older, retired couple opens up a Ski resort, where they want the tone/setting to be falling in love/romance/finding the love of your life. All of the heroine's and 1 hero are all winners in a love poetry contest, winning a FREE weekend to Weekend Pass ski resort. Where much to every ones chagrin, the celebrity draw is a Lady-Ga-Ga, Britney Spears, or Madonna (back in the day), type young pop star. Instead of Julie Andrews, Angela Landsbury type they originally wanted.
In the first story 'Weekend Fling' Two best friends and work colleges (sp?) win a trip to Weekend Pass with their sarcastic love poem. They end up sharing a 1 bedroom romantic suite and after seeing each other naked in the shower a few times, decide they want to hook up, but also don't want to ruin their friendship. Of course they do hook up.
Weekend Tigress by Jade Lee, is about a kindergarten teacher, Liz Song, who wants to shed her goody-goody k-teacher image and try her hand at Chinese Tantrics. The couple of the ski resorts son, Matt Walker, works security, and is suspicious of Liz. (Thinks she's a terrorist.) But that doesn't stop him from 'WANTING' her, since the handsome blue-eyed blonde has a thing for Asian women. And Asian, culture, and language, ect.
The 3rd and final one (which ended up being my FAVORITE)'Weekend Meltdown' by Anna DeStefano. Buttoned up, lawyer, Felicia Gallo wins a trip to Weekend Pass with her old poem, that she wrote when she was a 21yr old romantic. She decides to ditch the buttoned up lawyer duds, in favor of sexy designer duds. She attends with her flamboyant gay best friend, Willard, as her date/girlfriend. (Even Willard gets a romantic love intrest in the book at the ski resort.) Felicia QUICKLY (and I DO MEAN QUICKLY (In all 3 stories) hooks up with Weekend Pass,PR Agent, Tony Rossi (I'm sorry, I couldn't get past the last name Rossi. And I kept thinking of 'The PIT BOSS', SHORTY ROSSI, LOL)
LOTS of sex! And the sex happens quickly! Like at first sight quickly. (Maybe I'm being naive, but I couldn't get past the unbelievability of it.) I expected to like Vicki Lewis's story the best. As I have read and enjoyed her 'Nerd Series.' But, like I said, out of the 3 I would give Anna's the most stars, meaning, that's why I gave 2 stars, instead of only one. And I also think, the character of Fe's best friend Willard inched it up to 2. I guess, I'm just not used to reading the Harlequinisque (is that a word?) type books where the charcters want to jump into bed at first sight anymore. After reading all the Love Inspired (Christan romances), and Kristan Higgins where the LOVE scene is implied but, more fade to black. Leave it to your imigination. Focus on the story.

Winter Heat is an anthology by Vicki Lewis Thompson, Jade Lee, and Anna DeStefano. The three stories tie together around the premise that the winners of a poetry contest have been invited to spend an all-expenses paid weekend at a new luxury ski resort called Weekend Pass.
Weekend Fling (Ms. Thompson's story) is about Tracy and Josh, two co-workers who've become good friends--they'd just entered the contest on a lark, with a humorous sonnet that catches the eye of the judges. They don't expect this to be a romantic weekend, but the weekend has them viewing each other in a far different light than before. A very fun friends/co-workers-to-lovers story. Three and a half stars.
Weekend Tigress (Ms. Lee's story) features Liz and Matt. Liz is a straight-laced teacher who's decided that maybe it's time to live a little. Matt is a high-strung security specialist who's surprised to meet his match in a seemingly quiet woman with a wild side. An entertaining twist on strangers being thrown together with heated results. Three stars.
Weekend Meltdown (Ms. DeStefano's story) focuses on Felicia and Tony. Felicia's romantic entry wins the judges' hearts and she hopes the weekend will help refresh her wounded spirit. Tony's been hired to help smooth any PR bumps the weekend brings, but he finds he can't keep his eyes off one winner in particular. Real life intrudes though and all is not smooth on the path to true love. A bit uneven. Two and a half stars.
A pleasant holiday get-away collection for the beach...

I like it when authors team up and write stories that are separate yet connected. These three stories all centered around the grand opening of the "Weekend Pass Ski Resort". Each stories main theme was about one of the three grand prize winners of a poetry contest. They each won a free weekend trip to the resort on opening weekend. Each of the winners were very unique "couples" and each story is about the risks they take, either in/with their relationships or outside their "comfort zones". In Weekend Fling by Vicki Lewis Thompson, two best friends, working for the same P.R. firm that had bid for the contract on for Weekend Pass Ski Resort(and lost), end up going together and seeing if maybe "just friends" was not where they wanted their relationship to stay. In Weekend Tigress by Jade Lee the prize winner ends up going alone when her aunt, that was supposed to accompany her, becomes ill. She ends up having quite the sizzling encounter at O'Hare with a TSA agent who mistakes her for someone she's not, or is she. Weekend Meltdown by Anna DeStefano is all about taking a personal risk and letting your inner "wild child" out for the weekend before you have career burnout. All-in-all a nice escapism for a little while. Enjoyed each story very much.

I am had a really hard time putting this book down. I read the first book [Winter Heat] very quickly, and finished reading the second book [Weekend Tigress] just as quickly. The third [Weekend Meltdown] wasn't as good as the other 2, but it ended up being pretty good too.

This book was great! I loved each of the stories. I had already read some stuff by Vicki Lewis Thompson and knew I enjoyed her writing style and now I plan on reading more from Jade Lee for sure as well as perhaps by Anna DeStefano.
