As an omega, my job is to be the docile female—smile when they tell me to, do whatever the alphas say, and wait for the moon tide ritual when I’ll finally find my true mates.
Nobody can tell how truly broken I am inside.
When I find my perfect mates—two powerful, possessive alphas and one flirty beta—I decide to do the unspeakable.
Reject them.
Why would they want to be with someone as messed up and jaded as me? Someone who’s been used and spit out more times than I care to count?
But these shifter men? They refuse to let me go.
A twist of fate lands me on Reject Island, only…I’m not alone. I’m being hunted by the very three men I rejected—the men who still set my skin ablaze with every look in my direction.
They’re dangerous, psychotic, and possessive. And they want to see me pay.
Add into the mix a sweet, damaged delta I meet on the island, and I’m up to my elbows in sexy wolf shifters.
But the truth is…
I didn’t only run from my mates to spare them the pain of being with me. There’s someone after me, someone bad, and if he finds me, all of our lives will be forfeit.
Will I learn how to scream to the moon? Or will my howl always remain broken?
This is a standalone reverse harem shifter romance, with alphas, betas, omegas, and deltas. It contains some content readers might find triggering, including sexual assault, abuse, and minor instances of bullying. If you like your men damaged, your females broken, and a romance that will have you biting your lip and clenching your thighs, then this is the book for you.
This was a solid read, just not my favorite. I typically like rejected mates, and the twist on this was that the fmc rejects the guys, but after that I did not like how things were handled.
Starting off, the second chapter is from one of the guys, Crew’s, POV. I found his POV to be written in a gross male gaze way, he kept ogling women at the airport and talking about them, and mentioned he left the fmc to go to college to “sow his oats” like his father told him to. Idk, but when a male character talks like that it doesn’t make him attractive to me. Come to find out he’s never been with any other woman because he felt guilty and couldn’t stop thinking about the fmc, but at that point it didn’t make a difference to me. He also kisses another girl in front of the fmc in the present to make her jealous and I can’t deal with “alphas” who think like that.
Her other two mates that she rejected, Soren and Dallas, I liked. But, Soren goes kind of feral after the rejection and from his POV became kind of psycho, and beyond that we don’t know much about him. Dallas i liked instantly, but he became a background character. We don’t even get to experience their mating bond click into place like the others. He really got the short end of the stick.
I liked Jake the most. He was a little mean toward her to protect his feelings at the beginning, but he becomes so sweet.
Beyond that, i would’ve much liked this story if they had gone to the island to get her for romance reasons rather than because they were given wrong information by Crew’s dad. They then go to bully her because she’s a “traitor.” After they find out the truth about what happened to her I would’ve much rather there been a grovel. But no. There’s barely anything even though she felt abandoned by them and experienced the worst years of her life after they, specifically Crew, left. Beyond Dallas, none of them ever reached out to her but thought of her constantly in those years. Right. And then when they treat her cruelly on the island, it’s ok because she’s going into her heat and needs them.
Overall it wasn’t really for me but I know people will enjoy it.

Tragically 2 weeks into December this is the only book I have read this month. Cry with me please. This was a fairly solid book to start the month if school hadn’t kicked my ass. Into the book, I was sucked into the book immediately and Teegan’s character was interesting if not obviously tragic. I’ll be honest I hate the rejected mate trope that has become popular recently but this was a Katie May/Ann Denton team up and I couldn’t not read it as that duo has provided the amazing Darkest Flames series.
I rated it three stars so it clearly had issues. A lot of my problems had to do with plot choices and situations that could have been avoided. I forgot to give trigger warnings but they are totally necessary. Rape/sexual assualt, grooming, abandonment, abuse and probably more so be careful. Basically if her fated mates (I am not going to shame only one of them but damn I could), had paid a little bit of attention and not gone away on a bender in college. She would likely have been protected from assault. Maybe not but this b*tch believes everything his POS father says and even goes to the prison island to punish Teegan for “betraying” him. Her mates always assume the worst of her and never had trust for her. Yeah she rejected them because she was f*cking tramatized while they were gone for years.
I couldn’t get over wanting to deck them so it wasn’t going above a 3 star. Honestly, I know she got a happy ending with revenge but I would have been happier if Teegan and Delta shacked up together on the prison islands and lived the rest of their lives happy and together, sans the asshole and the two dickheads that followed his lead. I am kinda being a drama queen about this but I did not connect to any of them because of this.
One more positive note like any Katie May/Ann Denton team up there such great humour. I’d still try this book if you enjoy Rejected Mate stories because my rating is in spite of my disdain for that paranormal trope.
3.5 I’m Never Pleased and Super Picky Stars **** Possible Spoilers ****
Having so much love for both of these authors I had extremely high hopes for this book. This review will really be one of those it’s me not you situations. A lot of my coming ranting is mostly due to my issues and reaction to some of the events and storylines in the book so bear that in mind. Fortunately my hopes panned out at least for the first third of the book after which I was just so annoyed and over the drama and secrets. I wanted blood and vengeance dammit. While the book does have a HEA and a decent conclusion, I’m just not blown away like I wanted to be. The book features triggering topics as well as a rejected mate theme, RH relationship, and some bullying/enemies to lovers moments so take note.
To sum up her situation rashly, the heroine is sold off by her father on her 18th birthday to the alpha of the pack, whom for the past three years has used her as both a punching bag and personal plaything. Her life in the pack is hell and moments of happiness for her are few and far between. Due to pack hierarchy and the heroines omega status, she is basically powerless and has often considered taking her life, something that is unfortunately near impossible to do for shifters. Prior to turning 18 the heroine was actually dating the alphas son, the same son (Crew) who so easily allowed himself to be swayed by his father into breaking up with the heroine so he could go off and sow his wild oats or some shit. In his defense there is more to the story but I’m just bitter over this because of his later behaviors. Needless to say the hero goes off and doesn’t really check in on the heroine personally but gets some updates from his pack friends who return home and his father, granted his updates were limited and full of lies. Long story short the heroines predicament is what creates the real problem once the mating bond makes itself known. She is sent to reject island, normally something shifters dread yet for the heroine this is the only bit of freedom she’ll have had in years and she’s looking forward to it.
Without knowing the full truth the guys make way too many insinuations on her part. They do so even when recognizing there was more going on with her than they realized. Particularly more surrounding the heroine and her gaunt appearance, fear and lack of life. These stubborn asses refuse to just let go or be nice. Soon the thin ass line between love and hate makes itself well known and the guys sneak on the island to make their mate ‘pay.’ This compounded with lies from Crew’s father just made the guys react and treat the heroine in such cruel ways when she’d already been through some major shit. Teegan isn’t exactly a badass take no shit heroine ready to stand up for herself. Hell it’s not until around 70/80ish percent she finally even tells her truth to the guys. It was until the truth came out that my resentment for them just grew because no matter the situation even just their thoughts in wanting to destroy and hurt her pissed me off. After the fact, their little bit of sympathy and her quick acceptance were just not enough for me. In fact Teegan even has bunches of flashbacks throughout the story and while they were perhaps included to serve as the heroines happy memories with her men, they did nothing but make the guys appear worse in my eyes. I can never understand the mindset of characters or even real people who so quickly judge and sentence someone over lies or something they know nothing about. These guys were told she was a traitor (with no details at all) and immediately used this as an excuse to hate her and blame her for her so called ‘deception.’ I really wanted her to throttle them or at the very least make them suffer a little bit but she really didn’t. To think these are the same guys who are excited about the prospect of mating to her pisses me off. They all allow their egos to inflate to the level of steroid level incompetence and don’t take their heads out of their asses for far too long. Sadly it also doesn’t help that the heroine goes into heat at the most in opportune moments. Her heat really worked against the entire relationship in my eyes as they weren’t really solving any problems just screwing them away. I hated that the full truth wasn’t even out when she slept with Crew. It was like her body took over and all good sense left along with all her pain and haunted memories. It also kinda seems like such a cruel punishment to have your body yearning and dying for the touch of someone you believe despises you. That kind of shit would fuck with my head big time!!
Having now vented my ass off I also wish the end was bit…. MORE. I thought there were still some plot holes left open as well as little storylines like Crew becoming the new alpha that felt unexplored and just thrown at them to wrap up the end. I’m glad they are taking over how the island inhabitants are being treated and enjoying a honeymoon of sorts but this story really could have done with a more drawn out epilogue to pull me out of my funk and show the heroine in a better more fulfilled light. She’s now the Alphas mate to her old pack, something I’m sure would be challenging for her and I wish we got to see her grow as a new woman in a new life without her demons lurking everywhere.
I loved the storyline for this book and the characters were pretty cool. have to say, what I love about this book is that it really works, it's dark plus it covers abuse, it's really heartbreaking , I probably cried a few times, Plus some humour, I laughed out loud more then a few times haha this book has it all going on. Enjoyed this read..
Denton and May are already insanely talented authors on their own. However, when they write a book together it seems that they can combine their strengths and deliver even better stories, even better books, even better characters. And since I discovered that I really love books set in the Omegaverse I was really excited when I discovered that Denton and May were gonna write one together! Last week the paperback became available and yesterday I just had to start reading.
I don't think I've read that many books as intense and emotional as this one. The start already gave me shivers, and this time of the wrong kind, but that was also what the authors clearly intended. But I've been reading a big part of the book with the tears burning in my eyes. And that's a good thing. It's a very good thing. This story was heavy at times, cruel and dark and therefore also very sad. But since I felt that I was constantly on the brink of crying meant Denton and May wrote the story right.
Just like a lot of Omegaverse books the plot isn't that big. The story isn't really action-packed. I don't mind. The focus is completely on the characters and that's the part of a story I care about most. I want to get to know the characters, I want to grow attached to them, I want to feel for them, I want to root for them. And I so did in this story. If there was ever a bunch of characters I just wanted and needed to be happy, it was this bunch.
It's quite clear that our heroine has not had the easiest life. Her boyfriend was coerced to leave her behind to go to college and get a taste of life before settling and then she ended up in the claws of a terrible Alpha. Within a few chapters I already wanted to wrap my arms around her, hold her and take her somewhere safe. I was therefore quite glad that, since I couldn't do so, she eventually had the guys doing it for me. She deserved it. She deserved it so so much.
Okay, so, Broken Howl started off on a good start with me. I was completely sucked into this world and wanted to get to know more about Teegan. The whole situation she was thrown into by her dad and the alpha douche canoe was completely shitty. So, when things hit the fan, she knew what she had to do next.
Honestly, I should applaud her for trying to get far away from this shifter community. Especially when you think of how manipulative and shitty Alpha Steele was. It just sucks that her so called "fated mates", yes you read that right - mates, basically assumed the worst things and didn't trust her. Which, yes, I get it. They were completely butt hurt that she flat out rejected them but what those selfish assholes didn't understand was what happened when they were all freaking gone. FOR YEARS.
So, yeah, when the truth came out, I just wanted to slap them all for being so stupid. Seriously, they all deserved a good bitch slap in my eyes. Then the drama, and lots of random ass assassins, came their way.
In the end, it was an okay book, but I was really frustrated and annoyed with everyone involved. Like wanting to throat punch them, repeatedly.
"My little dove. My sweet, baby dove, flying away from me. How could my little dove do that? How could you fly away, beating your wings and never returning home?"
I really wanted to give this a 4 but i felt like this book had too many MCs and too little time to explore all four men thoroughly.
Especially with Soren, i wished there had been more of him in this book or atleast equally developed as Jack’s was.
It was hard for me to like Crew because it seemed like he was so quick to judge and be spiteful to Teegan.. i think his pov has to be the worst one, compared to Dallas and Soren. which is kinda telling since Soren is basically feral, and i still didn’t hate it as much as Crew’s. Poor Soren though, it didn’t seem like this book did him justice as he was barely in it.
(This book deserved another book to me lmao, it’s too short)
But alas, this was a really good book. 3.5 ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥

I thought Carnage Island would be my favourite in this series but I think it might be this one. There was so much emotion and intensity packed into this it actually surprised me.
Teegan had been dating Crew (son of the Alpha) in high school and then he left, with his two friends (another alpha - Soren and a beta-Dallas) to go across the country to study and sow his wild oats. Some 3 years later, they return for the mating ceremony, find they are all fated mates and Teegan rejects them all. She's then sent to Reject Island.
Its clear from the start that some very bad things have happened to Teegan in that three years. She is quite, quite broken. Despite that she's also smart, kind and caring and when she arrives on the island she meets Jake (a delta), a friend from high school (who now seems to hate her). So she sets about finding out why and watching the relationship develop between these two is just beautiful. The other three turn up a the island to punish her, not for rejecting them, but because they believe her to be a traitor to the pack.
Then it gets interesting. Someone is trying to kill Teegan, Crew is furious his former girlfriend is a traitor and is a complete asshole, Jake and Teegan are in love, Soren is going quite insane from the rejection and Dallas just wants to be friends again and is devastated by the rejection as well.
As the truth emerges for the three rejected, the developing relationship amongst them all was done well, especially that messed up connection between Jake and Crew. Teegan was so smart and brave. I've spent a few reviews bitching about being sick of FMCs being written as victims but this was done in such a way that you could feel her despair, and then her strength as she found herself again. It was actually pretty realistic.
Overall, I loved this book. My only minor complaint was . Meh - it a me thing! Doesn't detract from the book at all
This book was funny, emotional and just awesome. I loved Teegan, Jake and Dallas immediately but Soren and Crew had to grow on me. By the end though I loved them all. Definitely worth the read.
A rejected mates book where the female actually rejects the males? Sign me up.
This was a great stand-alone within the Reject Island universe. Some parts of the plot seemed rushed but overall the flow and pace worked well for the story.
I easily devoured this book in one sitting and just had to know what happened next. This author duo creates such captivating stories when they work together and I knew this would be no different. It wasn’t the deepest plot with the most twists and turns but it was very entertaining and kept me interested the whole time.
I love Katie May, her writing is amazing and she has such an unique way to write her characters and developt her book's plot, and well i don't know much about Ann Denton, but i didn't like this book very much.
Since two of my favorite RH authors are M. Sinclair and Katie May herself, it's obvious that i very much love possessive and jealous male characters that worship their girls. You don't read a book by those two if you don't like that. But i've read plenty of RH stories where the chemistry between the guys and the girl develops slowly and only a few long pages later that we get to the "obsessively in love" part. I can read that, i can love that. But i just can't deal with a hero that used to date the heroine, then leaves her to fuck other girls and only when he discovers she is his fated mate he wants her back. It feels like bullshit to me. Basically i got the feeling he wanted her just because of that, the magic part.
Okay so he did say he used to think about her and stuff and it was his dad that told him to leave but nops i can't bring myself to like Crew's character. If he really liked her this much he wouldn't leave her, specially by that stupid and disgusting reason. And the fact that his two friends who also liked her just saw them date and basically did nothing is weird to me. Also is really hard for me to understand this reject mate thing. I noticed that in RH genre there's a lot of this nowdays, and basically i skip all this books. To me the point of a "fated mate" is for a person to find her soulmate. In this book like so many others i've read when you find your mate you feel dazzed, you can only see that person in front of you, and you start to care for her and feel angry when she's sad or hurt. So how can a person just reject their mate?It doesn't make to sense to me. If the connection is that strong how can it easily be broken?Idk.
Anyway, the book was well written and i didn't hate it or anything (only Crew, him i kinda hate a little), i just didn't liked the male characters very much and the whole "rejected mate" thing. " If you don't like rejected mate books then why read this?" Well as i said i love one of the authors, and the blurb seemed really interesting. I'm not judging the plot of the book i just expressed my feelings towards this genre and said it was not my thing. If Crew wasn't an asshole maybe i would have liked this better. So yeah, the book was not bad, just didn't like it.
What a rollercoaster this has been, i have been feeling all kinds of emotions. What the heroin went thru i felt everything she felt. The guys was pissing me off from the start, when i heard how they acted from the moment Crew left the heroin Teegan until the present moment when they would know who their fated mate would be. I did not really feel then that they deserve to be that fucking pissed at Teegan after the many years they have been apart. I just felt even more pissed at Crew when i got to know that he left her cuz his father advised him to live his life and be a manwhore... bruhhh in that moment i thought that he/they could not have loved her that much if they just left like that. When he actually was together with Teegan then. But thankfully it was a lie, he lied that he had slept with all those girls cuz he could not do that when he loved Teegan so much. Thank god, that saved the story a lot for me. My fave was ofc Jake, he was the guy being by her side when the others where not. But i liked Dallas also, he was thinking with his brain more than the other two, lol. But i did not really know why Soren did not visit Teegan when Dallas did, i forgot the reason tho. He became this feral guy, the psycho one, i loved that version! But how could they trust Steel that easily, when he claimed that she was a traitor? either it was cuz they where blinded by their hurt of being rejected by Teegan or they just trusted what he said. I mean if they had known Teegan for that long, they could have been more suspicious. I got interested of this book cuz i saw that for a change the guys would be rejected, i always see the heroin get rejected so that´s a nice change. I did want them to torture Steele before they killed him off, he got an easy death being killed by a gun. And i thought they would kill of Teegans dad as well, but i guess that they left him cuz he is so weak and coward that has no power to do anything now when that cunt is dead.

Teegan has been being abused by her alpha since she turned 18, when she attends the Mating ceremony and realizes she is mated to her ex (who is also the alpha’s son). And his 2 friends, she is terrified for them and herself. She rejects them, but the alpha claims they rejected her and she is sent to the island for rejected mates. There are some kooky residents on the island, and also an old friend. I liked seeing Teegan growing and regaining her strength. A couple of the mates are jerks at times, and I feel one should have done a little more apologizing, but overall I really liked this story. Denton and May are a great duo :)
I read this because I love a different series by this author and I was happy with it. I’m not a huge fan of the “shifter” genre but I enjoyed this story. It was plenty spicy and had great characters. Definitely check out the trigger warnings if you have some things you struggle with but that being said nothing is super explicit in that sense. Just in the other more consensual way lol.
This is another story in the Reject Island series. Each book in this series is written by a different author and are standalone. They can be read in any order. Goodreads has this book tagged as an Omegaverse story, but I wouldn't agree with that. Sure, there's alphas and omegas. But the rest of the OV tropes are so light and glossed over that I couldn't take this book seriously as an OV story. However, I did enjoy it as a shifter romance.
Our heroine, Teegan, sure has a traumatic backstory. Her high school love, Crew, is the alpha's son. He loves her, but his father councils him to let her go so he can sow his wild oats while he's away at college. While it wasn't what he really wanted to do, he broke up with her and broke her heart. But now that he has his masters degree he - and his two best friends, Dallas and Soren, head back to their pack. What Crew doesn't know is that both of his friends have also been secretly in love with Teegan this whole time. There's a moon mating ceremony, mate bonds identified and broken, recriminations, sexual assault, banishment and redemption all in this little book.
One thing I really liked about this story is how some of the shifter stereotypes have been set aside. For example, in this pack, not all fated mates are happy. Some of these "marriages" are downright miserable. Something you don't really see in a fated couple in these stories. the other thing I liked was that it was Keegan that rejected her mates (yep, all three of these friends) because she felt too broken. While I kinda like the "rejected mates" trope, it's always the man who rejects the woman, so this was new territory for me . . . even though she did it for their own good.
I've read enough PNR books to know that they can sometimes stretch the imagination. But when Teegan gets reacquainted with an old high school friend who is also a resident on "reject island" they're saying their "I love you's" in a week. C'mon guys, really? Even with a mate bond that's . . . well, I guess I'm still reading about wolf shifters, fae, vampires, and the like and I keep coming back for more, so yeah, I guess I'm a hopeless romantic.
There is a trigger warning for the book due to sexual assault.
All in all, it was a good book, just not a great one. But I did enjoy it enough to recommend it if you're a fan of PNR stories, particularly rejected mates.
4.25/5 stars. CW: Sexual assault (off-page), suicidal thoughts, mentions of past abuse
Broken Howl is a standalone, rejected mates story, but what makes it unique from the start is that our FMC, Teegan, is the one who rejects the men. Of course she does it for reasons, but it really is enough to set this story apart from others of its kind, right from the off.
The story is told through multiple POV, which is one of the easiest ways to get a quick grasp on these characters. Let me tell you, the characters are beautifully done.
We have our FMC, Teegan, who is an omega wolf. She is strong, but is held in submission by her designation. This leads to her being taken advantage of, and we learn that the pack's alpha has been raping her for years. The SA is off-page, but we do know that it has been consistently happening for three years. As a result, Teegan is dejected and depressed. She feels trapped (because she is), and seeing no way out of her current situation, she resolves to just make sure not to bring anyone else down with her. Her plans get thrown for a loop when, at the pack's mating ceremony, three mating bonds are revealed: her ex-boyfriend/love of her life, and his two friends. To protect them and to save herself, she gets herself sent to Reject Island, where rejected mates go to potentially go insane and die in peace. Making the best of a bad situation, she is able to make friends on Reject Island and even reunites with an old friend.
Then we have the men. Honestly, the character traits in RH are always going to be a bit repetitive, so I'm not holding that against them.
Crew: The ex/love of her life. Alpha, though he doesn't really give off that energy at first and I was surprised to learn he was an Alpha. Soren: Another Alpha. The smart, slightly unhinged one. A little bloodthirsty. Dallas: Beta Fiyero. Jake: Delta. Inked, pierced, and haunted.
I'm whittling them down a lot, but all of these characters come alive in this story. I do not know Ann Denton's work, but I know this is a strength of Katie May's. I'm assuming it is one of Ann's as well. I feel confident picking up a book by Katie May and this one was no different. I actually want to check out Ann Denton's work as well, now.
This was a deeper shifter romance book than I'm used to. It had some heavy topics about rape, molestation, and possessiveness (NOT the good kind, NOT touch her I'll kill you kind). It made me sickened at what the grown as man and her father were allowing for Tegan. She deserved so much more and the three men, Crew, Dallas, and Soren, were always in her life protecting her but moved away for a few years. That's when the molesting began, so they didn't know but it broke Tegan. Crew, Dallas, and Soren ended up being her mates but the "powerful" alpha molester was all too happy to find out his son was her mate, so he could continue raping her forever, apparently. She tries to stand up for herself, and she tells her molester that she is going to reject the soon to be alpha, but he wouldn't allow that. He made up a bunch of lies about her character and sent her off to reject island--even though she wasn't--they were. Well the soon to be alphas dad (the predator who likes underage girls) tells her mates that she was a traitor to their pack. They get furious with her and decide to confront her about it. They get to reject island and treat her even worse, trash her room, emotionally damage her further. This poor girl didn't deserve this treatment, and it was because she's an omega. No one can resist the sweet temptation of one and they get controlled by lust, especially when she goes into heat.
Side note, she does end up finding a long lost acquaintance (Jake) at reject island they definitely reconnect after some rocky conversations. Apparently he didn't like how she pushed him to the side in high school for her boyfriend.
I’m always a sucker for the rejected mate trope. This one is dark. Happy go lucky Teegan is left behind by her best friends (and soon to be fated mates) while they go to college and sow their wild oats. This sets her up to be raped by Crew’s father for several years.
I liked this book a lot and it was well written, but it’s one of those books where I’m not really rooting for the mates to get together. Her mates are kind of dicks. Not just after the rejection, but her whole life.
Jake: Not actually a dick. The only mate who really seems to “see” Teegan because he’s also had a hard time.
Crew: A huge dick. All the flashbacks involve him being lame and self centered. Teegan goes to all his sports games and listens to his stupid stories, makes herself into the perfect girlfriend. And then he leaves her to go screw around in college and doesn’t look back. He is also the nastiest to her in adulthood.
Soren: Defense mechanism dick behavior. He loves Teegan but can’t have her, so he acts like he hates her for their teenaged years. Soren grew on me once he became feral. It says a lot that a feral wolf beats Dallas and Crew.
Dallas: A lame dick. At first it seems like he’s the nicest. But he’s the one who came back and visited her frequently, and he never noticed that Teegan was traumatized. He goes along to get along and takes a pass on standing up for her or for anything really.
Is Teegan really better off with these guys? It seemed like her true happily ever after was with Jake on the island, living a simple life where they could take care of the rejects.
I mean, two of the best RH authors out there getting together for a co-write and of course it's going to be brilliant! A fantastically written stand alone rejected mates romance..... Beautiful broken omega Teegan has lived through years of abusive hell at the hands of the pack Alpha and with the full knowledge of her father. So when she attends the full moon mating ceremony and finds out who her mates are, the only thing she can do to save them and to save herself is to reject them. I have to say, what I love about this book is that it really works, it's dark - it covers abuse - it's really heartbreaking - I cried - it's written so well that when they were experiencing high emotions so was I and that shows how invested in the characters I was. When Teegan arrives on reject island she comes face to face with an old friend, and ends up living with a completely hilarious woman who is just unique, and uniquely funny! It kind of has a bit of everything and often that really doesn't work, but I guess when you get two amazing authors like Ann and Katie then heck yes it works!!! Brilliant standalone. Absolutely loved reading it.
This was a pretty good stand alone RH book that I finished in a day. I wouldn't say there's any twists in it or anything, but it's still a good read.
There is only a couple of dislikes I had. The first being there were a LOT of similes. I totally understand the use of them, but it got to the point I really noticed them and got kind of old and even somewhat distracting. Once I noticed how often they happened, it pulled me from the story a bit. The other is that the first half of the book seemed a bit slow. Don't get me wrong, I still liked it, but it got to the point where I wondered how on earth the book was going to finish, being it was a stand alone and not 1 of 2 or something, when it seemed like so much still had to happen (I was only halfway done, but it still seemed like the book was setting up the stage). I checked the status of how far I was again a bit later, and realized they'd have to finish the book within 60 pages, somehow. Well, mission accomplished - they did it, though to me it somehow felt rushed.
If you're looking for a book to read in a day when you have the time, I would say feel free to give this one a go! It's not a FAVOURITE, but I'm still going to look into the authors and see what else they have. :)
Katie May and Ann Denton did it again. I was hesitant at first because I am so averse to bully books (my own issues), but I shouldn't have been. This book hit me right in the feels.
Teegan rejects her mates out of a sense of protection for them, herself, and low self-worth from physical and psychological abuse for years. Due to the flashbacks prior to the scene, I could feel the tension and pain from the characters. It was truly emotional. When Teegan goes to Reject Island and I seriously couldn't put this book down. Definitely recommend for fans of Katie May books and books about heroines with tragic pasts that rise out of the ashes and find their happily ever after.
This is a slow burn rejected mates reverse harem. It's full of heartbreaking angst and intrigue and misunderstandings as well as clarity and learning that being broken doesn't mean you need to be alone.
In this example, Teegan reject her mates because she feels she is too broken to deserve them when in reality they are all broken and their sharp edges mesh well together like a puzzle.
This is a really fun reject Island novel where there are quite a few rejects that you meet and fall in love with subsequently. Personally, I'm a huge fan of Claire and her nonsense.
I know the general rule about reverse harem is why choose? But I always tend to pick a favorite and in this case my favorite is probably Soren. I love Dallas and I love Jake too; Crew I think needs to grovel a bit😅
Teegan had a rough go of it. She had a great childhood, an even better High School experience, and then early adulthood really breaks her. As a reader, seeing her scenes of her abuse and what she goes through is really hard in terms of the controlling manipulation she endures and the out and out brainwashing at the hands of her abuser.
All in all, I devoured the book and enjoyed a lot of it.

My rating system
5 stars- OMG it impacted my life. I must tell everyone I know. 4 stars- Damn….that was really good 3 stars- Kept me interested but needed a bit more. 2 stars- Disappointed wish it had been better 1 star- Wasn’t very good but finished for closure. No Stars- DNF gave it my best try.
I really tried. At 24% I was ready to give up at 51% I was going to return the book at 71% I’ve had enough. I adore Katie May book but this one was just not for me. I was so annoyed and upset at the characters. The plot is great I was intrigued to find out what would happen but I can’t get with the additional mate whom she chooses over her original fated mates even when she can finally have them. I can’t get behind the fated mates having such blind hate for her. I couldn’t stand anymore I wanted to see the outcome but it was a story I just didn’t like. I wish I would have finished just to get the story out and find out the answers to my questions but I have a feeling I would have just been disappointed in the end.
Personally I very much enjoyed this book. I actually finished it within 3 days of intermittent reading. I couldn't stop turning the pages.
I have no triggers so the TW in this did not bother me. I loved the character building and personalities. I also really liked that Jake had first hand experience of abuse and bonded with Teegan when he recognized her trauma even more.
I enjoyed all the guys roles and ways they fit in together and bonded by the end. Personally crew is my least favorite out of the bunch as I find him a bit blah and boring compared to the others. (Personal opinion). My fave is soren, Dallas and Jake in no specific order. But it deff wouldn't be complete without crew. The story ended just as I hoped and I'm so glad it did as i had high expectations the more i read. ❤️
Loved the humor which had me smirking throughout the book.
The spice was saucy and brilliant. I love the fact there was no holding back on details. I love the bloodlust between Soren and Teegan they kept a secret.
Can't wait to read more from reject island if they are anything in comparison. Will also be adding more books done by these 2 amazing authors. Deff recommend

On one hand I really liked the book as I read it in one sitting....on the other hand I feel like there could have been more angst and drama with the flash backs and her ptsd - the abuse was only ever hinted at and we only found out at the end when she confessed to the guys what the extend of the abuse was. I feel as though it could have been deepened a smidget more to add some more drama to the story. I also thought that Steele's death was way too easy and the story finished too fast. There was a bit of a build up towards the end with her confessing what Steele did to her, but the whole scene could have been fattened up a bit more to add more drama into the plot.
I was also getting a bit annoyed with all those flash backs of the guys spending time with her during high school- the whole going back and forth didn't add anything to the story for me and I skipped the flash backs unless they had something to do with Steele.
Overall it was a good story and I quite enjoyed reading it in one sitting.
