I threw a paper airplane love note from my window.
First mistake.
I aimed it at a gorgeous stranger and put my address on it.
Second mistake.
Yep. You guessed it. I missed and hit a werewolf instead. Best thing that ever happened to me?
Next thing I knew, a large angrily attractive werewolf man was trying to get in my apartment. I introduced him to my baseball bat and figured that was the end of things.
Or not.
Because my well-meaning sister became a vampire to cure my immune disorder.
Long story.
In the process, she got a deadly team of fang bangers to hunt us for breaking their rules.
Longer story. A+ for good intentions and a D- for execution, if you ask me.
Re-enter Mr. Grumpy and Growly werewolf. He’s going to be my bodyguard slash kidnapper, whether I like it or not. Apparently, he’s the only thing standing between me and certain death. Swoon, right?
Of course, he hates all things vampire. A.K.A. he will take me from undead to dead-dead if he figures out what I’m becoming.
Thankfully, he has completely underestimated my ability to woo him with my adorable innocence, cheery disposition, and extreme powers of modesty.
As long as the feelings stay one-sided, I’ll be fine. Because giving your heart to a guy who is probably going to try to murder you is a recipe for disaster. And come on. When was the last time I made a catastrophic, life-threatening mistake?
USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Amazon Charts Bestselling author Penelope Bloom is taking her first flight into romantasy—and yes, there are dragons. After years of contemporary romance, she's temporarily trading meet-cutes for magical academies and coffee shops for castles that reek of blood. She promises the banter is just as sharp, but now it comes with deadly consequences.
Fun fact: “Penelope Bloom” started as a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the family dog, Penelope—never meant to be anything serious. But then the books took off, and the name stuck. Behind the scenes, Penelope Bloom is actually a husband-and-wife team. He handles the writing; she edits, helps with brainstorming, and runs the reader-facing side of things (like social media and messages). So if you’ve chatted with “Penelope” online, you’ve likely been talking to her—with the author chiming in whenever needed. Together, they’ve built the voice readers know and love.
I love Penelope Bloom and her stories. I know that her characters are gonna be quirky or goofy, and I'm gonna get a light-hearted read. Sometimes you just need something cute, funny, and sweet. This story of Riggs and Sylvie was exactly that.
Sylvie is sick and immune compromised which basically makes her a prisoner in her home and relegates her to watching the world pass her by from her window. Riggs, a grumpy loner werewolf, sees Sylvie in her window after she launched a love letter airplane out of it, which catches the attention of a troll of an old man instead of the intended target, and Riggs has to step in to save Sylvie from her unwanted admirer.
Let's just say from there crazy high jinx ensue, including an insane idea to heal Sylvie, a vampire hit order, backstabbing political set-ups, vampire and werewolf ambushes, families reunited, a looming vampire war, and in the mix of it all a sweet love story.
I really loved Sylvie and Riggs together. He was such a grump, and her weird quirks mixed with calming normalcy was what it took to pull him out of his pity funk, and back into living again. Riggs was the man she needed to be strong and take care of her but also love her for herself, to find a way for her to live and experience life to the fullest, and show her how strong she was.
This was a quirky, heart warming, easy read and I'm really enjoying this vampire/werewolf world PB has created in these last 2 books. I know war is coming and can't wait to see what happens next, plus it seems we might have gotten some hints about who might find love next....Felix?!
Even though this is an ARC review, I will always shoot you straight. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What a fun book! If all Penelope Bloom's books are this funny and well written I will be checking them out soon! I enjoyed Sylvie and Riggs and how totally opposite they were. Their opposition led for some wonderful dialogue! I loved the side characters and wouldn't mind reading their stories ;)
Sylvie and Riggs meet in a crazy way ... Sylvie's got some crazy sickness and her sister is willing to do anything to protect her. There are lots of bumps along the way the Riggs is Guarded and shut down and Sylvie is happy and easy going minus her germ issues. These two have many bumps along the way. They work hard to figure it all out and the ending is amazing.
This is easily my favorite Penelope Bloom book so far. It was a breath of fresh air and brought me out of a bit of a reading slump. I've been trudging through books lately, but this one I couldn't stop reading. I reeeeeally hope she continues to write PNR rom-com, as I think she's even better at this genre than contemporary romance.
The heroine was cute and funny, the hero was brooding and grumpy (adorably so), and the story was fun from start-to-finish. I am going to read her other PNR rom-com next, and I will read more if she writes them.
My only gripe is the cover doesn't fit the characters at ALL. So, if the cover is holding you back, ignore it and read the book anyway!
Highly recommend if you are looking for a fun PNR standalone romantic comedy.
How could you not love a paranormal romcom!! For me it’s not possible and I don’t think I’ve ever really read one that I can think of but now I want more. This book had my cheeks hurting, I couldn’t get enough of Sylvie and Riggs!! This obviously isn’t your typical paranormal romance but it was the perfect book for me
I must have laughed through half of that book. The wit was dry and the retorts came back thick and fast. Penelope Bloom has such a way with words. This is my first book by this author, but if they are all this funny, then I can see her books popping onto my kindle pretty soon.
Sylvie has an immune deficiency, that makes her susceptible to any germ, so she stays indoors as much as she can, reading books, dreaming of a big love affair and having interesting conversations with her cat (with a fabulous attitude and name)
Mr. Grumpy and Growly Aka Riggs is a lone werewolf, grumpy and surly, but always with food in his hand. He spots trouble circling an apartment and goes to investigate, he gets more than he bargains for.....
These two meet after a misunderstanding involving a love note (it’s a funny moment and I don’t want to spoil it) and a baseball bat! Riggs is then keeping an eye on the girl as she smells like a she’s been near a vampire recently, well that’s his excuse and he’s sticking to it!! He keeps an eye out and is rewarded when a vamp enters her apartment building.....
Riggs hates vampires (we find out why) and won’t tolerate anyone that associates with them. But rescuing Sylvie and her sister (and a half dead vampire!) seems like a good idea at the time. Getting the pack to agree to letting them stay that’s going to prove interesting.
The cast of supporting characters in this book were truly amazing. Maisey (Sylvie’s sister) who becomes a vampire in the hopes of saving her sister, she’s so funny and compassionate. Riggs friend Felix is a good friend and is usually around to cause Riggs a headache. Then the coven of vampires which aren’t too keen on members biting humans without permission, so the sisters have been warned to leave the area or face being killed! The werewolf pack don’t like vamps, they will take them out if possible! But there is a vampire splinter group, they want to do away with the coven, and lead a better life. Not Riggs’s problem, he doesn’t care if both groups of vampires kill each other! But when Sylvie attracts the wrong attention, he’s going to have to step in and protect her! And take her back to the pack!
It’s then a non stop ride. Internal dialogues, snarky comments thrown at one another and situations you’ll either laugh at or worry that Sylvie will meet an untimely end! Really well written and completely different from the usual vampire/shifter stories I usually read.
If you want a laugh out loud read, then pick this one up. But be prepared to be looked at strangely (I made the mistake of reading it in the park!) My sniggers got a fair bit of attention 😂
I Bite She Sucks by Penelope Bloom had me in stitches from start to finish! Sylvie and Riggs are a HOOT.
Riggs is grumpy and growly, quite literally, surly, and quite the attitude but I loved every moment of his being a curmudgeon.
Sylvie is a breath of fresh air, sweet, charming, and has a true zest for life, and I loved watching her grow and explore!
The CHEMISTRY builds and sparks and sizzles, and the banter and conversation and jibes were hilarious!
I loved the secondary characters too, and definitely want more in this world!
There are so many FEELS. There's tension, drama, fighting the feeling, fighting in general, overcoming obstacles, navigating twists and turns, and all the while, I sat there reading it with a smile on my face.
I love me some paranormal and I love me some romantic comedy and this was a delightful combination of both! So, what are you waiting for? Time to sink your teeth into this one!
P. S. I sincerely hope you'll write more in this world! I need more stories! Felix! Kyla! Maisey! Fang!
This book is fantastic from the beginning. I mean, who can't relate to waiting on a book to come out or a package to arrive. The female character was quirky and engaging—definitely not your ordinary paranormal book but so fun to dive into this story world. I'm loving that this is presented differently, and the story is captivating. The trouble is believable, and the characters are refreshing. I loved how the author weaves in the drama rather than it feeling overdone. I especially love the selfless, caring, protective wolf who you see change as the book progresses. I enjoyed how love changed both the male character and the female as they journeyed thru this story. I was surprised by the characters in this book. I love a happy ending and was smiling as I read the end of this book. I felt this was a fantastic stand-alone and enjoyed the author's note at the end of the book.
I was really hoping that we’d get the chance to go back to the world of Kiss Kiss Fang Fang. And even though this doesn’t tie back to those characters, it’s easy to believe that this could be taking place in another part of that world. I was pulled into the pages of this story pretty much from the beginning. I quickly fell in love with quirky Sylvie and world-weary Riggs. I loved watching her find her confidence in spite of the restrictions she’d lived her life under. It was also amazing to see Riggs open his heart back up. Even though there’s a lot of paranormal elements to it, the heart of this book is a beautiful story about love against the odds. But I still really REALLY want there to be sequels in the works. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
I BITE, SHE SUCKS was a cute take on a paranormal romance with a good helping of steam because this is a Penelope Bloom romance. I found the story dragged a bit for the first part of the book, but picked up paced the second half and that was when I really enjoyed Sylvie and Riggs’ story. I liked them as a couple and totally and thought Riggs was a total sweetie. I found myself chuckling at some of the funnier bits and liked the smexy parts, but I just couldn’t quite love this and I suspect it was the pacing being off a little for me. Still a good, fun read. 3.5 stars.
Paranormal comedy romance. Sylvie: sweetheart, innocent and finds adventures in her novels. Riggs: dark gloomy and grumpy. He reluctantly comes to the rescue Sylvie and her sister. She gets introduced to a world she only read about in her novels. A world were werewolves and vampires exist. We get a fun romance with lovable characters. Steamy, funny with a little mystery and great world building.
This book sort of straddles sweet and steamy. Sylvia has a severe illness where she has a compromised immune system. Riggs is a curmudgeon werewolf who hates vampires. They make a cute couple.
The action wasn’t gripping, but there were a few fights.
This is a horrible cover for the story, FYI. Riggs isn't a suit kind of guy and Sylvia isn't a wrap dress kind of girl. This isn't a traditional romantic comedy, and there's nothing supernatural on the cover either.
A delightful romantic comedy that features vampires and werewolves.
This book has been on my TBR for a couple of months and I’m mad I didn’t pick it up sooner. It had me laughing at the antics of Sylvie, the immune compromised, and Riggs, the grumpy alpha werewolf.
These two just set off sparks when together. Perfect banter that paves the way for a HEA.
Have to admit I'm surprised this has such a high Goodreads rating (Over 4). I read this for Goodreads March Romance Reading Challenge. Story and characters seemed trite. I haven't read a paranormal romance in forever...maybe that has impacted my opinion...
This was another cute romantic comedy by this author. Too bad she doesn't write more stories in this world. This one had were wolves and vampires. It worked well together.
This was my second PNR book I read this year, and it was a refreshing story.
This is a lighter read from your typical PNR. It had humor, steam, and some sweet moments. I wouldn’t say this is dark by any mean, but due to some of the elements of the story, it some darker undertones.
This is a story about Riggs a werewolf, who is trying to keep our heroine Sylvie safe from a coven of vampires. It was a fun ride filled with some action, a bit of suspense. I would probably catagorize this as a feel good PNR. I really liked the characters... you do experience some Growth from Riggs in a positive way. Sylvie was such a sweet and rounded character, and I loved seeing her come out of her shell more.
Overall this was an enjoyable and sweet story. It kept me entertained. I even ended it wanting to see some of the side characters hey their own story.
Riggs & Sylvie’s Kooky Paranormal Romance Has Colorful Characters & Impending Danger That Keeps You In Suspense! There Are A Few Surprises Along The Way As Well As Some Laughter – And Even A Few Tears.
Sylvie, twenty-three, loves books. She gets lost in the romance and fantasy worlds that she reads about. Her favorite Is Moonlight Caravan, a paranormal story that takes in a world in which vampires and werewolves exist. But it is only an escape. Sylvie’s real world is starkly different. She inherited an immune disorder from her mother, who had died from the disease. Her father couldn’t stick around to watch her mother die, so he had taken off. That left just Sylvie and Maisey now. Her thirty year old sister sacrifices everything to support Sylvie, who essentially lives in a bubble. They share an apartment together, along with King Gravy Boat III, their hairless cat. Sylvie rarely leaves the apartment for fear of getting deathly ill. She survives on hand sanitizer. Although Sylvie may be alive, she is hardly living. But one errant paper airplane, a cat with an attitude, and a determined stranger one day change everything for Sylvie. She comes face to face with her knight in shining armor, only to take a swing at him with a baseball bat. That is the beginning of this comical romance, and the day that Sylvie’s destiny changes course.
Riggs Silverback, a broody werewolf and passionate lover of food, has been hiding out in the city and indulging in burritos for some time now. He likes doing his own thing. His friend Felix worries about him, and Fang just doesn’t get the message to leave him alone. Riggs was once the alpha of his pack – the Silverbacks. He had struggled to find his place there, and after what went down with Kyla five years ago, things just never felt right again. So he retired and left his home in Silverback in favor of the city. His wolf has largely been dormant, and had been even back when he had been alpha. Something unexpectedly changes one day when he notices a paper airplane making its way to the street from an apartment above. The girl in the window catches his attention, but he never expects her to be off her rocker.
Something isn’t quite right with her, but her fearless determination fascinates him. He smells trouble, though, and soon finds himself volunteering for a job that she can never repay him for. It turns out Sylvie and her sister Maisey have gotten caught up with some vampires, never anticipating the firestorm it will cause. There are rules in the paranormal world, and some have been broken. Maisey and Sylvie are wanted by the Catchers, who have a month to hunt them down before stepping back and allowing them to live. Riggs volunteers to keep them safe and out of harms way. He takes the sisters to a werewolf bar which serves as a sanctuary, but The Wet Flea is not without its own dangers, not to mention more rules being broken.
Blackstone is home to the Rebels, a breakaway group of vampires that claim to want peace. They are more philosophical-minded than The Coven, who are more rigid and less forgiving. The Cleaners belong to the Coven, and Lazarus is their leader. To keep the girls safe for the month, Riggs bites the bullet and takes them to Blackstone. He may hate vampires, but finds himself willing to endure the discomfort if it will help Sylvie. Riggs and Sylvie soon find themselves pulled into a long-existing battle between competing vampire factions – the Coven and the Rebels. Each side hopes to pair up with the Silverbacks to ensure the other’s demise. Riggs doesn’t trust either group, but isn’t above using them for protection. And if that isn’t bad enough, some in his old pack still harbor a grudge against him for walking out on his alpha duties.
Riggs and Sylvie’s kooky paranormal romance has colorful characters and impending danger that keeps you in suspense. There are a few surprises along the way as well as some laughs - and even a few tears. Riggs is gruff and grouchy, but cannot help but to fall for Sylvie and her ugly cat. He finds purpose again in protecting Sylvie. Sylvie goes from one day hiding inside and reading about romance and paranormal fantasies to the next day running from danger and risking everything. She hasn’t had much practice in getting along with others, which might explain her penchant for hitting or slapping. King Gravy Boat III adds a lot of character to the story with his big personality. Despite their rocky beginning, the couple eventually earns a happy ending.
Riggs and Sylvie’s story mixes vampires and werewolves in an unconventional comedic romance. The story is nicely written; there are only a handful of errors in my ARC copy. It is written in first person. The POV alternates between Riggs and Sylvie. I rate this book four stars.
I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
H-Riggs h-Silvia So I just want to start with what I don’t like abt this story... which there is NOTHING I don’t like abt the story. BUT the cover makes no sense! ***SPOILER ALERT*** Riggs is a warewolf who did not dressed with a suit or anything like that... Silvia o guess you can see her like that. So we meet Silvia who is really sick. Her immune system is too weak so any germs can get her really sick. So she has stayed all her life stuck in doors with little to no human interactions as possible! So she decided to write a love note & write her address including apt #, folding the paper over like an airplane & decided to throw it out the window. Someone got it & Riggs as well saw it & once the 1st guy opened the piece a paper & read her address he started walking in her direction towards her apt #. Riggs picks up the paper & felt a weird connection & decided to follow the guy. Just like he thought... the guy was a weirdo who he fought for him to leave. Once he got inside Sylvia’s unit she hit him with a bat (Twice). He told her that what she did with the airplane was stupid & walked out. Her sister came in & started telling Sylvia that she might of found a solution for her sickness & that is turning her into a vampire. Her sister was already bitten. Here comes the bad guys called “cleaners” since you have to ask permission to bite/turn someone to a vampire, when this is not done correctly the cleaners comes pretty much to clean everything & by cleaning they mean kill them. Riggs comes in to save them again! He made it his goal to protect her & her sister. The cleaners told them that if they can survive a mth they will be left alone! Riggs & Sylvia feels this very strong connection between each other! I love how the story is written & I love both interactions between the two.
Riggs is a very emo werewolf at the beginning of this story. Sylvie is a woman with a compromised immune system who has a positive outlook on her life. She throws a paper airplane in his direction (she misses, by the way) and is inexplicably drawn to her. Oh heck! She finds out about the supernatural world living right in her own city while having to go on the run to protect her sister. Riggs is an alpha who can't help but protect those that need to be helped. Let the games begin!
Let me get this out of the way. There are some plot holes in the story but I'm going to overlook them because the story was enjoyable and the pacing was solid. Anyway, Riggs is likable even when he's all emo and stuff. I liked him from the start because he was gruff but kind. He can't help but be protective and that even extends to Sylvie's hairless cat. Sylvie is a wide-eyed innocent that compares everything to something she's read in a book. She's cool because she's flexible and goes with the flow. It's all exciting to her because she's used to never leaving home or being around people. I'm not going to explain why Sylvie is on the run because I think it's a spoiler.
I will make one little complaint. There is a slapstick moment where Riggs falls out of a window that I thought was misplaced. While it kind of fits Riggs' personality as far as his reaction to the moment, it would have caused questions from a lot of people so I thought it was silly.
This is a contemporary paranormal story. If you enjoy an introduction to a large supernatural world then you might like this. The story is light-hearted. There is no big backstory about Sylvie's immune system illness.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "I BITE SHE SUCKS" WOW!!! What a great book you did an amazing job writing this paranormal adventure full of intrigue, suspense, angst, danger, hot steamy scenes, humor, twists its grabs you from beginning to end. Sylvie is a 23yr old with a severe immune disorder she lives in a bubble reading fantasy stories her favorite Moonlight Caravan about werewolves & vampires it's her only escape her crazy hairless cat Gravy Boat III to funny her sister Maisie takes care of her. Sylvie watches the people below on the street she sees a gorgeous guy out the window sends a paper airplane out the window with a more it hits him first but another guy picks up the note & runs to get apartment she sees then Riggs follows after reading the note to protect her. Riggs gets rids of the guy but when Sylvie opens the door thinking it's the other guy she hits Riggs with a bat over the head he thinks she's crazy but this is the start of their rollercoaster ride adventure. Maisie has Steve a Vampire come to her place hoping he'll turn Sylvie to cure her of her illness by turning her not knowing she's already been turned herself. Riggs has to take the girls some place safe because The Vampire Coven has sent Cleaners to take them because what Maisie they don't allow without their permission if they survive the hunt for one month then their left alone if caught before they could die. I definitely recommend to get this extremely well written unique paranormal romance with funny quirky moments between Riggs & Sylvie them staying two steps ahead of the Coven to survive such a great story you can't put down until finished I hope there'll be more stories hope Maisie & Felix get their own story. AWESOME READ!!!!!
While this isn't a direct sequel to Bloom's first paranormal romance (Kiss Kiss Fang Fang), it does take place in the same world a little while after the first book. I do think this book does a good job with the world building and working in the backstory to the overall conflict so reading the first book isn't strictly necessary (although, I do recommend because it is just really cute and fun). This is grumpy vs sunshine the paranormal version and I really enjoyed it. I loved how optimistic and sharp Sylvie is and how grumpy and protective Riggs is and their dynamic together is just perfect. There are a lot of characters in this book and I did have a hard time keeping everyone straight in my mind at times. They get introduced pretty quickly and the names are a bit too similar for my brain to separate. I also thought Sylvie's sister was more underdeveloped than I would have liked considering the sisters are supposed to be pretty much inseparable. I also want to point out that our main character has some sort of un-named genetic condition that weakens her immune system. Her sister gets turned into a vamp specifically with the goal of then being able to turn Sylvie so she is cured of her condition. While this isn't the exact route the plot takes, Sylvie does end up being turned and thus cured of her genetic condition. At the end of the day, it is her choice and she readily accepts the change but it did feel like it was edging a little into the 'magical cure' area that might bother some readers so I wanted to point it out.
This book neither bites nor sucks. I Bite She Sucks by Penelope Bloom is an outrageous story that I just couldn’t put down. I have loved every single book by Ms. Bloom and I Bite She Sucks is no exception. This was a unique spin on the paranormal world of vampires and werewolves with a hint of comedy thrown in. Some of Ms. Bloom’s past books have literally been laugh out loud funny and I can’t get enough of her crazy humor. I Bite She Sucks is funny in more of an unconventional way. Sylvie is awkweird (no I didn’t spell that wrong) and quirky and just a character you can not help but be enamored with. Riggs is the overbearing grumpy brute with a bad attitude and is the perfect opposite of Sylvie. With Rebel vampires and ancient Covens fighting, how can a lone wolf possibly stay out of the foray and turn his back on a damsel in distress? Opposites attract and love “Blooms” within the pages of this rare vampire/werewolf story that is told from both Riggs and Sylvie’s point of view. If you read any of Ms. Bloom previous books you will know that they tend to be more contemporary, but what a treat she gave us with branching out into the paranormal with Kiss Kiss, Fang Fang and now I Bite She Sucks. I always one-click everything Penelope Bloom writes, and I highly suggest you do it too. 5 jaw snapping, neck biting stars for the romantic paranormal comedy I Bite She Sucks by Penelope Bloom.
I Bite She Sucks was such a fun read. From beginning to end I was laughing my butt off and constantly craving food.
Sylvie has spent her whole life in a bubble due to a weakened immune system. Anything and everything can make her sick, so instead of living life on the outside like everyone else, she watches life pass her by and reads.
One day she accidentally sends a sappy love letter to a handsome stranger outside her window, never intending them to even see it. Except things go wrong and a gruff sexy stranger comes banging on her door to tell her she's an idiot.
Riggs has been in a slump for a long time and sees no end in sight. It doesn't bother him either. When he unexpectantly saves a girl from being harassed at her front door he doesn't expect the instant attraction.
Riggs and Sylvie are such cute characters. Riggs is controlled by a lifetime of prejudice but really grows throughout this story to see outside of all the rigid rules of the world.
Sylvie is very innocent and protective of the people she cares for. I loved how she was able to show Riggs how to enjoy life again. It was an adorable and enlightening part of the story to read.
I Bite She Sucks was a fantastic paranormal comedy romance. I enjoyed it from beginning to end and I can't wait to see what Penelope Bloom writes next.
At the beginning of the book, I was expecting a pretty great werewolf, vampire story. It started out well with the way Riggs and Sylvyie met, and everything was going pretty well until Sylvyie got sick and her sister started her conversion. Then the book pretty much got stuck in a rut for quite sometime where Sylvyie would ask Riggs questions and he would tell her he wasn’t going to answer because it was related to being a werewolf and he didn’t want her vampire sister to give away his secrets just in case she was conscious enough to hear what he was saying. Basically, he was a gruff jerk, the entire time.
When the great escape came, we finally began to learn a bit more about Riggs, but he was still a self-righteous jerk who most people wouldn’t associate with, much less fall in love with. Somewhere along the way, he was met with a crisis of conscience and finally, finally became someone who was actually a decent person. It took about 80% or more of the book to get there.
Sylvie was the only well-rounded character for much of the book. Eventually, Riggs became one. When his sister was finally introduced, her story was compelling, but she was not involved a lot. Honestly, the cat shared far more time than several of the characters, and it was just annoying.

I Bite She Sucks is a complete stand-alone romantic comedy that’s set within the same universe as Kiss Kiss Fang Fang. Sylvie has a compromised immune system that basically makes her home bound. When she throws a love letter out her window, she attracts Riggs, plus all sorts of troubles that her sister brings home. When her entire world is rocked with knowledge of vampires, werewolves, and running for their lives, will this dreamer fall for the gruff paranormal?
This book was a fun read, full of witty banter, quirky characters, and an attraction that won’t be denied. Sylvie and Riggs are definitely opposites, but I love how well they worked together, even if it didn’t seem like they should. And her cat was hilarious! Sylvie is a bit sheltered due to her immune system, but I loved that she saw so much good in her circumstances. She’s sweet, she’s kind, and she’s completely not jaded. Riggs, on the other hand, will growl your ear off, but I adored that his whole life shifted towards Sylvie and keeping her safe and even loving her. I think he might be a favorite reluctant hero for me! I liked their connection, I liked their adventures and journey to finding love. But I do have to admit, I felt like I was never hooked. I never felt like I couldn’t put the book down. It was good and interesting, almost with a dry humor and fun paranormal twists, but I just didn’t get sucked in (haha! vampire pun) like I had hoped. I do look forward to more books from Ms. Bloom and I’m excited to see what she’ll come up with next!
I have to admit it was a nice change of pace reading a "lighter" paranormal romance. Although, there is a dark undertone to the story for the first half...it's just not DARK, if you know what I mean.
I freaking adored Sylvia. Her health made her a hermit. She was the very definition of clumsy, naive, innocent, and pure. I was kind of ehh about her decision, but it turned out to be a favorite part of the story for me following. Put her up against the scorned, grumpy, alpha Riggs and what you end up with is one of the CUTEST relationships. It was a bit slow burn then BAM. A few steamy parts and y'all, they were just adorable. (Especially that epilogue 😍) There's a scene after Riggs challenges an Alpha that was 🥵🥵.
The plot wasn't too deep, but had enough humor, action, and thrill to keep the pages turning. I would almost consider this a "feel good" paranormal romance. It was deep enough without being heavy and sweet enough without being cheesy. I definitely wouldn't mind more stories from this world (cough, a certain shifter and the sister, cough).
In I Bite She Sucks we get to read a story filled with humor, fun and adventures with Sylvie a human with an immune disease and Riggs one grumpy werewolf who can not stand vampires. These two meet when Sylvie who is locked safely away in her 3rd floor apartment throws a love note as a paper airplane towards Riggs but a creeper reads it. Riggs gets bothered and goes to save Sylvie who happens to be in only a t-shirt. Maisey is Sylvie’s older sister and over the years she discovers there are vampires and believes if she gets turned she’ll be able to do the same for Sylvie to heal her. Unknown to them the change was not sanctioned and they are being hunted to be terminated. Lucky for them Riggs has been watching them and steps in to save them and finds a way to protect them. Sylvie never thought she’d leave her apartment but with Riggs by her side she is living life one adventure after another with germs, danger and finding love. There are two groups of vampires and one is out to cause death and problems for everyone and when the 3 worlds collide do we see what Riggs past has done to him and how he moves forward with Sylvie by his side! All the characters, Maisey, Felix, Fang, and Gravy Boat, in this story make this one great roller coaster adventure with laughter throughout!
