Elements of Power
As the descendant of two prominent New England witching families, Khlorie Lethestone’s life was destined to fit into the neat, color-coded boxes established by the American Continental Coven (ACC). When it is discovered that Khlorie has “extra elemental powers” beyond that of a typical witch, she is sent to Spindlewick College, a secret institution designed to help witches develop non-conforming gifts into tools for the greater good of witching society. Once there, she meets the attractive, but distant Perry Prentice, who is assigned to help her understand her gifts. She wrote her first novel, Erine Pershings and the Golden Lyre, because she could not find interesting and informative historical fiction that explored the daily lives of women and children in Ancient Athens. The Council of the Harvest moon series represents Kate’s first foray into Young Adult Fantasy, her favorite genre as a reader. She knows how transportive a fantasy story can be, and hopes to give her readers the same experience of wonder and escape. Whether Middle Grades or YA, Kate is committed to creating characters that feel as authentic and real as the students she works with everyday as a classroom teacher.
She has a B.A. degree in Classical Civilizations from Colby College and a M.S.Ed in Museum Education and Childhood Education from the Bank Street School of Education. Kate lives in Atlanta, GA with her husband, Jack, son, Augie, and two dogs, Artemis and Apollo.

Elements Of Power plays out in an alternate reality of present day where humans, witches, etc. exist openly together. Focusing on the subset of witches, our heroine, Khlorie, has special powers among her own kind. Because of this, she must attend Spindlewick College for proper training and control. Khlorie encounters friends, foes and a potential love interest in this strange new place. Will Khlorie control her powers, or will they control her? Something is amiss, but what could it possibly be?
Kate Stoessel's take on magic is refreshing. With little tweaks here and there, a dynamic and imaginative world filled with vivid details has been built for these intriguing characters to inhabit. Khlorie, as female lead, is intelligent, adaptable, engaging and clever enough to captivate any reader.
Overall, Elements Of Power is a good bit of fun with an unfortunate cliff at the end. Now, the waiting begins for book two. Regardless, magical fiction readers will find a lot to like within this book.

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
This is one of the best books I’ve read in ages and I read a lot! I loved the concept of all the different types of witches and the council, it was so imaginative but there’s also an element of politics, you can sense that not everything is right with this world and then the twists and turns just keep coming. The only negative thing that I can say about this book is that it ends on a cliffhanger and apparently I have to wait until next year to read what happens next! I live in hope that the author writes quickly and brings it out sooner..

Really enjoyed this story was a great start to a series. The author does a good job of world building and is developing the characters well. There are family secrets, rival families, romance, friendship, magic, Supernaturals, and a touch of mystery. This book ends on a cliffhanger when Khlorie realizes that things are very different then she was taught.
There are a few editing mistakes in the book which need to be fixed but that has become a common occurrence in books. Would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a YA Fantasy series.

What a cliffhanger! This book is a great start to this series. Loved the characters and how they have grown throughout the book, especially Khlorie. You get to know about the main characters and their lives before attending Spindlewick. The mystery and suspense throughout the book makes you want to read what happens next. It is a definite page turner! There are twists and turns at every corner. Once you think you have it figured out, something else happens that makes you second guess what's going on.
There are some grammitical errors in the middle of the book and I kept seeing them through the end of the book. It does get a bit annoying at times but it's still a good read. I would definitely recommend reading this book.

This book is amazing!!!!! I love everything about the world that Kate has built. I was hooked from the very first page. Khlorie is a fantastic lead in this story. She is brave, intelligent, strong willed and fiercely loyal to her friends. I loved the mystery behind Spindlewick and the gifted witches that attend the school. The vivid imagery is gorgeous and really helps show how grand the school and it's private island are.
The political turmoil between the witches and the fairies really are at the centre of this story, and what a fun drama that creates. But, the relationships between Khlorie and her friends, especially Perry are what make the Elements of Power so very special. Each character has their own secret talent and watching their relationships and talents unfold is so much fun. Even if you know that the ACC is watching their every advancement.
The last two chapters were magnificent. I absolutely can't wait to get my hands on the second book, I wish I could read it right now!! This is definitely in my top 5 first books in a series, it has perfectly set up the plot and characters to continue developing into 100 more books. I really do hope there are 100 more books in this series, bring it on!

I really enjoyed reading Elements of Power; and Khlorie is quite and interesting character. Belonging to two very powerful families and having a form of magic that is very very rare, she could have easily turned out to be a boring, overpowered character but that was not the case. I enjoyed reading about her learning more of her elemental magic and growing into her abilities. Though I will say, I was a little confused by the overall magic system in the book, but that did not hinder my reading experience. The book was pretty good and ended on a cliffhanger, which I didn't see coming at all. Excited to see where things go from here!

I’m a sucker for magical school stories and this book didn’t disappoint. The world building writing was great and is setup well with so much mystery and magical politics. The characters are endearing and likeable and I can’t wait to get my hands on the sequel. The only thing that stopped this from being a five star read for me was that it took me a bit to get into the book but it could have just been my mood 😊.

Received as a review copy, this is an honest review. Khlorie thought she knew the path she'd be taking, eagerly awaiting to head off into a career of Spell Writing... yet no acceptance has arrived leaving Khlorie to wonder what went wrong. Where she's been accepted is the mysterious Spindlewick College, where students have a more complex power set that cannot fit into a single category. Khlorie is a very powerful elemental witch... with abilities that are strong and explosive; without those like her in power, she can't succeed in becoming the kind of witch she can be. Chlorine's destiny is only beginning. A lovely adventure, well laid out and complex, emotional depth. Highly recommended.

Elements of Power is a fun, fast-paced read. I was excited to receive an advanced reader copy of the book in exchange for my thoughts. I felt immersed in the world that the author created immediately and I am so excited to read the second book to get a closer look at a different part of this world. I would love to say more about that, but I am trying to keep this spoiler-free.

Khlorie has special elemental powers and is sent to Spindlewick College to help master them. Enrolled with other magically gifted students, Khlorie learns more about her powerful and dangerous gifts and develops wonderful friendships with several other students. However, not everything is as it seems at Spindlewick College and in the witch world. As Khlorie masters her powers, she must also face bigger threats that could shatter everything she’s ever believed.
There are so many unique and cool types of magic, magical abilities, and magical classes throughout this story, and it is fantastic! Each magical person goes to college to train for a magic-related career, and they take classes specific to their powers. Magical Gardening, Non-Traditional Flying Methods, Spell Creation, and Shapeshifting: Theory and Ethics are just some of the options students have. As I read the book, I imagined which classes I would take and which careers most appealed to me. I don’t know how the characters narrowed their focuses. Everything sounds so interesting!
Like many dystopias, this story explores important issues like excessive government control, oppression, the taking away of freedoms slowly and almost unnoticeably, and the blind allegiance of the uninformed. Khlorie, for example, grew up in a strict home with a mother and aunt who work for the government. Her closest friends are also ingratiated in the government and follow the dictates of the law implicitly. It isn’t until Khlorie goes to Spindlewick that she sees the inequities of their society and how her family has contributed to it. This is also when she learns about the lies she’s been fed throughout her life, and she learns truths about her family and the world around her.
Khlorie growth throughout the story is immense. She learns so much about her magical abilities, herself, her family, and society and basically has to reevaluate all she knows. She is unsure who she should believe and who she should trust, and the more she learns, the more confused she becomes. Her time at Spindlewick, though fraught with tense moments, magical fiascos, and other conflicts proves worthwhile and instrumental in opening Khlorie’s eyes to the realities of her life. She sees how little control she has over her life, especially since the death of her father. Luckily, she develops a found family in Perry and some of the other students at Spindlewick.
I love the found family aspect of the book. The majority of the story takes place on Spindlewick’s campus, and when Khlorie first arrives, she know no one. Perry, Orpheus, Itzel, and the rest of their close-knit group quickly embrace Khlorie into their group and support her as she learns more about her powers. They train with her, commiserate with her, and accept her as no one else has. Plus, they know how to relax and let loose! Fun moments with Khlorie’s new friends add levity to the story (Especially Orpheus. I love him!!) and show how much friends can become like family,
The love story between Khlorie and Perry is angst-filled, lovely, romantic, and complicated. Many obstacles stand in Khlorie and Perry’s way, and there are definite trust issues happening. Both have secrets, and they often have differing opinions on social and political issues. Also, Khlorie has been lied to so many times by so many people that she starts to find it difficult to trust anyone. However, it is clear that this couple cares deeply for each other, and their bond is rare. I’m curious to see how they resolve their conflicts and hope that they will find their happy ending together.
A magical young adult fantasy with immersive world-building and dynamically developed characters, Elements of Power is a fantastic book for readers who like ya fantasy and romance. Plus, that shocking ending left me speechless! What a cliffhanger!!

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book!
The book takes place in a modern day New England in which witches, fairies, mermaids and vampires live among humans. The book focuses primarily on witch society with hints of more fairy and mermaid involvement in upcoming books. In witch society, everyone must have a magic specialty and train for that specialty at one of the 14 Witch Colleges. The MC is discovered to have extra powers and gets sent to a secret college in Maine. Once there she meets an amazing best friend, Itzel, and a dreamy male lead character. Her magic turns out to be really dangerous and powerful. She has to work hard to get a handle on it. As she is learning about her powers, she realizes that not everything she has been told is true and there are some shocking revelations along the way!
It immediately sucks you into a world with a dangerous undercurrent that you can't quite put your finger on. Khlorie, the main character is smart and relatable. Her male lead is a nice change from so many YA leads. He is fierce and protective, but also just wants to garden. Haha
I am really excited for book two. Elements of Power ended on a HUGE cliffhanger and I am looking forward to potentially spending more time outside of the witching community.

Solid 4!
I was fascinated with the world since the earlier part of the book. A world that exists along with "our" world where the people are the shapeshifter! This book has already made me hooked since the first chapter. It kept me wondering and curious to know more about Leirianor.
There are lots of characters that you'll root for regardless of how morally grey they are. I love the main character but I also can't resist falling for some of the side characters. And lastly, how can we leave a fantasy world without some political intrigue?
If you are on a reading slump and you are looking for a book that will make you interested in reading again, then this book is what you should grab!

This isn’t like other witch books. Instead you have a world where witches and such are known. There is a rule of law as well as an underground. We start the book with a girl who just wants to know her future. We can all relate to that! From there we go on an adventure where neither us nor Khlorie knows who to trust. There are tons of twists and turns. Add in magic and a small amount of swoon and this was a good read.
The book itself isn’t too long and therefore lends to a nice easy read. The plot isn’t hard to follow either and you find yourself more enjoying choosing who to trust instead of trying to figure out the world building.
Overall I enjoyed this book and think any fantasy lover would find it a good read.

Wow! This book totally exceeded my expectations! I was transfixed by the politically charged landscape the writer created with witches and fairies in turmoil.
Add to that the timeless mix of a college for magic and some fantastic eclectic characters and this book was impossible to put down. I'm so annoyed now that I have to wait until 2022 for the next part!
Be prepared to trust and mistrust everyone, be Enchanted by elemental magic and yo encounter a good few surprises along the way.
Compelling and enchanting - would recommend.

The characters are strong, the plot continued to thicken as I read further, and I absolutely cannot wait for the second book in the Council of the Harvest Moon series. Love this series the plot and character development is excellent. This is a fast paced book that really draws you in!

Initial reaction: I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!
I was super excited by the premise of this book. I love books about witches and the added bonus of other magical creatures just made it so much better. I thought the idea of putting the witches into different specialties. I LOVED that Stoessel created more than just 5 or 6 specialties, she created 14 which all correlated to colleges and colors. In addition to the specialties, we learn about the many different jobs that witches can do within their specialty. In other books where people are divided into different areas, there usually aren’t many choices so I loved that aspect of the world in this book.
Now the witches in this urban fantasy world have a structured system so the witches go to specific schools for their specialties. The school aspect of the story was something else I was super excited about. Secret magical schools are always amazing to read and I loved it! Stoessel did an amazing job at creating this school and world.
Let’s talk about the characters. I LOVED them all. Khlorie was great to read and I loved the growth she made throughout the book. I honestly can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. By the summary, it’s obvious that Khlorie doesn’t know all the secrets that are being kept from her and by the time we get to the end we’re starting to realize, along with Khlorie, that there are so many secrets that are starting to come to surface and that things are really going to start coming to a climax.
Along with Khlorie there are many other characters including her mother, Perry, Orpheus, Itzel, Vibiana, Cal. . . I could keep going but I’ll stop there. I think they are all so interesting and while we slowly learn more about each of these characters there is SO much that we still don’t know about them. I’m really looking foreword to the next book to learn more about each of them.
The romance in the book is super cute and while it was a bit quick I still really enjoyed it. Side note, with details we find out later in the book I think it makes sense why the romance was like this.
Politics plays a big part in this book and again I think it’s a bonus. I loved all the discussion about the political issues that are happening in this world and think they will continue to grow to the forefront as we continue the journey with Khlorie.
Now I won’t give any spoilers but the twists in this book were great! I thought they fit really well and I was caught off guard by them. While I did love them I am a bit sad I have to wait for the second book to come out to see what happens next.
There were a couple small things I just wanted to mention here at the end. While reading there was a bit of a mix up with the color of Perry’s eyes. It was originally a big deal that his eyes were blue but then later we see a picture of him with green eyes. Just a bit of a mix up but sense the eyes were a big deal in the story I thought I would mention it. There were also several spelling errors throughout the book. I did receive an arc of this book so these mistakes may have been fixed for the actual publication and they don’t really have an effect on my review.
So should you read this book? 100% yes you should. Witches (as well as other supernatural creatures), magical schools. and political issues make up this amazing first book in the Council of the Harvest Moon series. I couldn’t put this book down, there was always something intriguing happening and the pace was great. I definitely recommend this if you’re a fan of YA urban fantasy!
Initial reaction: I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!
I was super excited by the premise of this book. I love books about witches and the added bonus of other magical creatures just made it so much better. I thought the idea of putting the witches into different specialties. I LOVED that Stoessel created more than just 5 or 6 specialties, she created 14 which all correlated to colleges and colors. In addition to the specialties, we learn about the many different jobs that witches can do within their specialty. In other books where people are divided into different areas, there usually aren’t many choices so I loved that aspect of the world in this book.
Now the witches in this urban fantasy world have a structured system so the witches go to specific schools for their specialties. The school aspect of the story was something else I was super excited about. Secret magical schools are always amazing to read and I loved it! Stoessel did an amazing job at creating this school and world.
Let’s talk about the characters. I LOVED them all. Khlorie was great to read and I loved the growth she made throughout the book. I honestly can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. By the summary, it’s obvious that Khlorie doesn’t know all the secrets that are being kept from her and by the time we get to the end we’re starting to realize, along with Khlorie, that there are so many secrets that are starting to come to surface and that things are really going to start coming to a climax.
Along with Khlorie there are many other characters including her mother, Perry, Orpheus, Itzel, Vibiana, Cal. . . I could keep going but I’ll stop there. I think they are all so interesting and while we slowly learn more about each of these characters there is SO much that we still don’t know about them. I’m really looking foreword to the next book to learn more about each of them.
The romance in the book is super cute and while it was a bit quick I still really enjoyed it. Side note, with details we find out later in the book I think it makes sense why the romance was like this.
Politics plays a big part in this book and again I think it’s a bonus. I loved all the discussion about the political issues that are happening in this world and think they will continue to grow to the forefront as we continue the journey with Khlorie.
Now I won’t give any spoilers but the twists in this book were great! I thought they fit really well and I was caught off guard by them. While I did love them I am a bit sad I have to wait for the second book to come out to see what happens next.
There were a couple small things I just wanted to mention here at the end. While reading there was a bit of a mix up with the color of Perry’s eyes. It was originally a big deal that his eyes were blue but then later we see a picture of him with green eyes. Just a bit of a mix up but sense the eyes were a big deal in the story I thought I would mention it. There were also several spelling errors throughout the book. I did receive an arc of this book so these mistakes may have been fixed for the actual publication and they don’t really have an effect on my review.
So should you read this book? 100% yes you should. Witches (as well as other supernatural creatures), magical schools. and political issues make up this amazing first book in the Council of the Harvest Moon series. I couldn’t put this book down, there was always something intriguing happening and the pace was great. I definitely recommend this if you’re a fan of YA urban fantasy!

Elements of Power is the second release by author Kate Stoessel and her first in the Council of the Harvest Moon series. I am personally not an avid YA paranormal reader and tend to only veer that direction for a few notable exceptions.. witches and/or magical schools or any combination of the two. Luckily for me and anyone who is like-minded that we get BOTH in Elements of Power. Our leading lady Khlorie is a witch with prestigious magical bloodlines and upon finishing school at the top of her class is anxiously awaiting being assigned her specialty which will determine her profession as she reaches adulthood. In an unexpected turn of events Khlorie doesn’t receive an assignment and is instead whisked away to a magical school hidden from the rest of the world with other students who have powers unlike anything she has ever seen. Her new classmates are different from anyone she has ever met and they open her eyes to experiences she could never have dreamed of. Her powers start to manifest in unexpected ways, making her realize that she may have underestimated her abilities and how they could be used in the wrong hands.
The first thing that stood out for me was how quickly Kate Stoessel was able to develop a new world that felt natural. She was able to weave witchy politics and fae rebellions into the plot as though she was merely reciting a fact of history rather than forcing a far-fetched story line. Khlorie’s High School experience felt familiar with a dose of magic which left a pang of jealousy that my own school did not provide me with a lifelong magical specialty to base my entire life around. Step it up muggle schools! Allow this to be my formal request for an online quiz to get sorted into our respective specialties.. I’ll wait!
Along with the world building Kate Stoessel was a master at developing relationships that felt authentic. Khlorie’s relationship with her mother was a mixture of admiration and disappointment as she desperately tries to live up to her high expectations. Regardless of her abilities and high performance in school there was a self-doubt and humbleness that only comes from never quite feeling good enough. Once she moves to her new school the cast of characters she meets allow her to fully explore her magic and push the limits of her abilities. Among her new friends she is also given a mentor, Perry, who has similar powers and is tasked with helping her explore her potential. Initially there is tension between them as Perry tries to maintain his distance but as her powers grow so does their connection. Watching them develop from reluctant study buddies to a pair bonded by more than affection is the perfect amount of sweet tension.
If you are looking for a new magical world to lose yourself in I cannot recommend Elements of Power by Kate Stoessel enough. If this release is any indication of what we can expect from this author than I think we are seeing the beginning of what I hope will be a long and successful series! From the moment I read the synopsis for this book, I thought it was a very interesting concept and I wanted to love it. After having read it, although it was very well done throughout, it could improve in many ways.
First of all, the magic system was too convenient. For me, it felt like if you were a supernatural creature, you could basically do everything and anything. Still, it was also very interesting and fun to read about.
The politics, on the other hand, were probably one of the best parts of the book. They weren't very complicated really, considering that this is a YA book, but I liked how... Normal it was. And this extends to the lifestyle of the characters as well. I really liked that Kate Stoessel decided to have them be just like us, and live lives very similar to our own, but with magic. And everything was magical and supernatural in some kind of way. And even though it seemed a little ridiculous and unrealistic at times, who cares? It was entertaining to see everything she came up with.
The characters... I'm not sure how I feel about them. I think I'm a little out of the demographics for this book, because I felt that everyone was extremely YOUNG. More than they actually were. This also means that I didn't particularly love any of the characters. Yes, Khlorie is a great main character, Perry was very sweet, and (in my opinion) Orpheus was one of the most interesting of all. Yet, none of them moved me.
Overall, I think this is a great book for younger audiences (13 to 16 years old maybe), and it is definitely engaging. There is much room for improvement, but I could not put this down. I read it way faster than I expected and I would 100% read the second book (that cliffhanger was not nice at all). So, if you think this might be a book you would like, give it a shot.

Elements of Power by Kate Stoessel - 5/5 Stars

I am relatively new to the game of reading ARCs and this is the one that has made me by far the most excited. I loved this book. I'm a sucker for boarding school narratives, especially magic boarding schools. This book tackles so many important themes and does them all so well. Khlorie finds herself in the midst of political upheaval and, based on her upbringing, knows exactly where she stands on things. Then a wrench gets thrown in and she finds she has unique, somewhat dangerous powers that change her entire plan for her future. Along the way, she builds a found family and finds her opinions on the political unrest are getting a bit more complicated.
Full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing, this book also does a wonderful job of portraying the rapid, sometimes challenging growth new adults must go through when they head off to college. They meet people from vastly different backgrounds than they themselves have and find that a lot of things in the world aren't as black and white as they once thought them to be. Khlorie very quickly has her entire worldview challenged and finds herself second-guessing those she used to trust with her life.
The only thing is dislike about this book is that since I read it as an ARC, I have to wait even longer for the second book in the series, expected sometime in early 2022. I don't know how I'll be able to wait a whole year for the next book in the series. I absolutely can't wait to dive back into this world.

I discovered this book on the tour sign ups for Turn the Page Tours, and was immediately interested in the premise of a witchy academy full of elementals!
This book follows Khlorie Lethestone, a witch about to graduate at the top of her class, but who somehow has not managed to be categorized into a specialization. In this world, all witches are given their specialization by the time of graduation, where they will then go to a specific university and wear a matching color for the rest of their career. I found this incredibly interesting and was so appreciative of the specialization color chart included in the beginning of the book that I could go back to and reference when needed.
Once her famous mother steps in, Khlorie's school informs her that she is simply too powerful for one specialty, and must instead be enrolled in the secret and exclusive Spindlewick Academy to train her skills. She also is informed that she is incredibly powerful in all four elements, even though she is completely unaware of it yet. At Spindlewick, she meets other powerful students, and begins to unravel dangerous secrets about her past!
I gave this book three stars, which for me means it was a good book! The premise, the world, and the species were all intriguing, especially in regards to a plot twist towards the end. I loved both Itzel and Morpheus as well!
There were, however, a few tropes in this book that are some of my least favorites. That does not make this is a bad book by any means, but perhaps not the perfect one for me personally. I strongly dislike the "chosen one" trope, or where a character is extremely powerful off the bat compared to all their practiced peers/enemies/mentors, so I found it difficult to connect to Khlorie. I also found the romance too rushed, but I am someone who thoroughly enjoys slow burns, so take that with a grain of salt. Despite this, I would still consider the series to find out what happens to the rest of the group!
I would recommend this to readers looking for a magical world full of witches, mermaids, fairies, and vampires where everyone is hiding something and you don't know who to trust!

I don't know why I continue to be surprised by new authors. The magic system was unique, on a stage all it's own.
The MC, Khlorie, was written so well, I loved getting to know her character! I also loved the political side of the witches. The whole atmosphere of the book, the world building, and with just a hint of mystery, this book is pure magic!
A wild adventure, emotional connections, and amazing characters!
Beware of the cliffhanger! I can't wait to see what happens next!

There are very few books that make me have a verbal emotional reaction, but this one did it.
I'm first going to say there are a few grammatical errors in the book, but as long as you don't dwell on that you will be just fine. The book's storyline is actually pretty good. At first, I thought I was going to be a little disappointed but I continued to push through. I even learned some Greek, it's always nice to learn "new to you" languages. It was nice that real languages were used instead of made-up words. It just makes the story even more believable and pronounceable.
Back to my verbal emotional reaction, even though I knew it was coming, the freaking ending, got an audible f you and a laugh. I absolutely love endings like this, they are so frustrating. Just glad I remembered this was a computer.
I can not wait till 2022 when the second book comes out.

A very interesting book about a witch who is not aware of her powers. She is caught up in the witchcraft when it is revealed she has power over the 5 elements. Her mother is a high ranking witch and enrolls her in a special school to learn and use her powers. The plot is very good and the characters really keep your attention. I recommend this book form all fantasy lovers .I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is one of the best fantasy books I've read in ages!! I loved the concept
The characters, Witches and the council, politics everything was so we'll maintained! And I loved the storyline too.
The mystery and suspense in every chapter are awesome! It's one of those books which I-really need to read -what -happens -next- but -I -don't want- to- finish -the -book

Such a good book! It has a little bit of everything. From political moves/manipulations, familial secrets, secret school for magic, romance, growing into oneself, and a huge bombshell secret at the end.
Khlorie comes from two of the most prominent families and is held to a higher standard than most and she doesn’t disappoint. However, when it comes time for everyone in her age group start to be assigned to their next school assignment and she hasn’t been, she strays a bit from the path and that’s when secrets start to unravel.
Khlorie is sent to a secret school, Spindlewick College. Being a secret school, no one can know where she’s going and her cover story causes a lot of rumors and speculation. Once she arrives at Spindlewick, things start happening. First she starts unlocking her powers and find that even in a school for special gifts, she still stands out. But she’s able to find a group of friends that aren’t intimidated by her and also meets Perry who has similar powers and can guide her into gaining control.
There’s an undercurrent sense of secrecy, beyond being a secret school but Khlorie has no idea what it is. However, the other students not being as sheltered as Khlorie, have a better understanding of what the real purpose of the school is and they’re not all ok with it. It takes Khlorie quite a lot to finally start to see even if she doesn’t fully understand.
The ending was wow...it was such a huge cliffhanger and that reveal? Yikes! I’m excited to continue to follow Khlorie and Perry’s journey.

Amazing book that was so well written. It captures you from the get go and doesn’t let you up till the end. A great one to add to your to be read list.
