Perfect for little ones learning their colors and learning how to read, this new entry into the terrific "I Like to Read" series follows a charming cat who explores the world and gets some surprises as he figures out his favorite color. As it turns out, Cat likes a lot of different colors and simply can't choose the one he prefers most. The repetitive text helps beginning readers build confidence as they read, and the illustrations, created with pencils as well as digital ink and color, holds their attention especially since each scene after Cat decides that he likes a certain color is filled with that color and various objects of that shade. The surprise at the end adds a bit of delightful unexpectedness to the story. I hope Cat will continue on further adventures through the colorful world around him.

The cat goes outside and sees a ladybug - so everything outside has a red hue, until it sees a yellow bee - then everything is yellow; but it isn't the same scene, where red includes a rooster and a barn and apples, yellow features pumpkins, chicks, corn stalks and a scarecrow. Following a green lizard, the cat discovers all the green at the pond, the blue by the sea shore, and a pink butterfly leads the cat to cotton candy and roses. Several other colors represent all the things the cat can see.

That first colored page was a bit of shock, but once we figured out what was happening, it was fun to find all the things that were the color in each picture. Part of the "I Like to Read" series, this is a level C, designed for the middle kindergarten reader.

This is one of the “I Like to Read” leveled readers from this publisher, a series of picture book-sized easy readers. With the repetitive text – i.e. “Cat likes red. Red is nice” repeating with six other colors, this should work for very early readers. The interest is in the adorable cat and tinted world she imagines when she sees a creature and then pictures the world in the creature’s color. Here is an opportunity to embellish the text with a prompts from the scenes which Cat sees in her travels.

The text itself doesn’t move me, as it is only offers about five words and no drama. I am always conflicted about shelving this series in early readers as the text is so simplistic, beyond many other more fun very early readers. The art is adorable, so I think it works better as a picture book.

Considering cats have limited color visibility, this was an interesting picture book. Cat introduces the reader to a color which is followed by a scenic illustration with a tint of that color. Toddlers would probably enjoy this quick read but it might also be confusing since the landscapes include objects not typically in the colors shown (ex. a pink tree).

This book is very simple. Short, small sentences that repeat throughout the book. The Cat explores each color and finds something new! I can picture a toddler pointing out the items or objects they recognize in each illustration.

A perfect choice for a very beginning reader. The repetitive phrases and picture clues allowed my 4 year old to "read" this and feel successful. There is also a story of sorts being told in the illustrations which adds another dynamic layer.

A pleasant surprise! My toddler really got into this book! I am pleasantly surprised! I never know what books she will get into, but she has devoured this book. Thank you for adding color to her world 🙂

My young son enjoyed the book - perhaps because of the colors or the repetitive nature of the text.
There isn't much of a story here - the cat likes many colors and they are all nice.

My husband questioned the grammatical accuracy of the Spanish lines.

Sonia (kindergartener) read the whole thing, and was pretty proud of herself. The pictures are also really fun to look at (lots to notice).

“A Gato Le Gusta El Rojo”Is about a cat that in each page is seen inside a picture that's all in one color, “A Gato le gusta el rojo” shows the cat being in an all red barn with lady bugs and red trees. I enjoyed this book as it is so detailed that each second you'll find something interesting hidden throughout the art. This book is great for small children who still don't know how to name colors and are intrigued by colorful books.

This a beautiful book! I am an adult learning Spanish. I used this book to practice short sentences and give a vibrant visual for memorizing colors. Each page features detailed drawings of things in the featured color. As the book progresses, little animal and insects in the previous pages follow el gato. I love the sweet ending!

I LOVE THIS BOOK. It's a very simple book with a short sentence for almost every two pages. It's also repetitive, but it works. The color palette and the illustrations are adorable, fantastic, and I love them. I would love to own this book.
