Allison and Bart, married less than a week, return to their Hawaiian honeymoon suite to find the room ransacked. Thousands of miles from home, they’re being followed. But why, and by whom? What dark secret do they hold that makes them prime targets for murder by a sinister madman bent on revenge?
It’s a heart-stopping game of cat and mouse, with Allison caught in a demonic web. How could she have guess that on her honeymoon she would be abducted by a pair of thugs, fall into a volcano, find herself imprisoned on a remote island, and befriend a huge jungle cat? And that is only the beginning . . . .
Added to the intrigue and danger is . . . well, this matter of religion. Along their path of adventure, Bart and Allison have some tender brushes with Mormonism. They begin to see the gospel’s impact on new friends and the power of prayer in their own lives – leading them to vow that if they get out of this mess alive, they’ll look into it further. If they get out alive . . .
You’ll be spellbound until the last word of the masterful novel. Mystery, danger, intrigue, romance – all this and much more!
Didn't love this one as much as the first. Stories are always better when they begin. Scarlotti freaked me out as an 11 yr old and subconsciously, I think he still does.
Lynn Gardener's books are fun reads. They are light enough to listen to while I'm driving without worrying about getting too distracted from the story. Her combination of mystery and romance is enjoyable. However, the narrator needs some SIGNIFICANT pronunciation training. This made listening to the story very distracting. If you are telling a story based in Hawaii, learning some very basic pronunciations doesn't seem too much to ask. Some of the more glaring examples are pronouncing the name of the Goddess Pele as "peel" rather than "peh-leh" and mispronouncing the names of major cities such as Hilo (she called it "high-low") and Laie (pronounced as "Lay"). These are just a few of many of those I remembered after finishing the book. Ms Gardner needs to either get a new narrator or insist on some pronunciation training prior to her next read.
2019 - I was too embarrassed to put these on GoodReads when I joined in 2008. They're the lightest reading I've probably ever read, I read them all when I was 16 and even then I felt bad that I was spending time on such basic entertainment. :) But the other night I picked up the first book for a quick read, and was again reminded...they're entertaining and captivating for a young teen, also clean and educative about travel and the world, but now, almost 20 years later....I just can't. (However I have a really specific reading goal this year, and so any books I've previously read but not included in good reads are being added so I can hit that goal. haha #motivation
Another nostalgic comfort read in the time of Coronavirus. I remembered that this wasn’t my favorite of the series and I remembered correctly. It wasn’t bad, just not my favorite. I did like the setting of Hawaii and I like Allison and Bart. Scarlotti was freaky and weird, which I guess he was supposed to be. The telepathy between Allison and her dad is still strange, but it’s still kind of fun to revisit this books all these years later.
There was a little too much immodesty, and words to explain things that I wasn't too comfortable with. on top of that, there were so many new words that I had never heard before, that I wasn't sure what she was talking about on occasion. Other than that, it was a good story, with good intentions, and lots of adventure.
Having your honeymoon interputted like this sounds miserable. I am guessing that most of the time Bart was absoltly terrified for his new wifes safety. Not knowing what could happen in a moments notice. This book was crazy, just because of a dumb pearl. I thought that the romance between Bart and Allison was so cute. Such a good clean read that had me guessing till the very last page!
When I read these books in middle school, I loved them! I couldn't get enough. Coming back to reread them, I see their flaws, but I still think they're worth the read. They are fast paced, clean, educational, and easy, quick reads.
I dont remember much of this book. So it was almost like reading it for the first time.
I did feel like the many intense trials in this book were a bit excessive, but it's such a good read. So much suspense. The love story is still there. And some unexpected.
This book was a real adrenaline rush. I still can't stand the telepathy, and there are some romance elements that are nauseating, but it was tasteful for the most part. Good story. Real creepy!
This book is very similar to the first one I read which was much further into the series...Jade and Jeopardy. The title is a dead giveaway to the center of the novel, but I intend to read the rest, in order to see how the characters evolve and see if it remains of interest to me. I am afraid that even though this is good "LDS" fiction, (if you aren't LDS, you won't get it) she may continue to use the same template over and over. This one had a plot that had a couple of nice although not entirely unexpected twists. I recommend reading this series from the beginning as they are all quite intertwined, it seems.
This is an amazing YOUNG ADULT book, yes a YOUNG ADULT book! All you adults reading this book series really need to stop giving low reviews just because it's a little far fetched, I have this book in my junior high/middle school library!
Set in a modern day world with a "future world" house. I'm sure it's just some monitoring equipment, speakers in every room, and motion sensors everywhere, but still pretty cool. There's a LOT more romance and Mormonism, which is AWESOME! And the witch doctor is SOOOOOO awesome! It's defiantly a must-read-nail-bitter!
I started with this onesince the 1st (Emeralds and Espionage) wasn't in at the Library- I was hooked immediately! I think I've read at least the first one before, but right now I really love them! If you want a fun lds action romance, these are super! Allison is a magnet for impossible amounts of trouble, and is always diving in headfirst into more, but I think they're sweet! I love them! Gotta add them to my collection I think....
I got wrapped up in the relationship of Allison and Bart; it was a romantic story along with the mystery. This is the book where they first come into contact with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which added interest for me because of my membership in the church. This was a sweet story, full of excitement, too.
i loved this book!! it was amazing, it really keeps you interested and its a very fun read. i think it develops the characters into what they are in the other 8 books and i just love the characters. the action and suspense and romance is just awesome!!! definitely 2 thumbs up!!!
Read the first one a while ago and decided to pick up the rest of the series. This second book finds Bart and Allison on the honeymoon. Allison, of course, finds herself followed and kidnapped. The book moves quickly and is a little unrealistic, but a fun read nonetheless.
Another thrilling novel that's so hard to put down until you finish and when you do you just want more. The sequel to Emeralds and Espionage Lynn Gardner does it again and publishes another have to read.
Like her first book, I think the novel is a bit edgy. I actually liked this story better because I think on some level we all can relate to the fear of losing our freedoms and not being understood. Great story.
I really enjoyed this series. It was very fun, exciting, and romantic. The romance is between a Husband and Wife which makes it even more fun to read. (for us LDS people)
