Beck is a big, growly mountain of a man with a monster of a dragon inside him. He keeps to himself, only leaving Dragonclaw Ranch when his inner beast feels unsafe for his friends. But when a brush with death makes Beck give a stranger his dragon's talon coin, he wakes up to a pretty, curvy woman that he now owes a favor. By the way his dragon growls 'mine' and 'mate', Beck knows it might be safer for them both if he stays away. Until he finds out Sierra's in danger, and a monster might be just what she needs.
When a huge, gorgeous mountain of a man fell unconscious on Sierra's land, she didn't hesitate to ride out and finally meet her intimidating neighbors at Dragonclaw ranch. They all live up to their legends, with gorgeous, silver-eyed Beck catching her eye most of all. But after a grumpy stand-off with Beck, Sierra heads back home, not wanting to cause more trouble. But when Beck shows up and saves her, insisting on staying around, she can hardly say no to the mountain of a man. Especially when all her body wants to say is 'yes' to him.
As Beck guards Sierra and helps on her ranch, heat explodes between them under the beautiful western night sky. But Beck knows that even though this is the most happiness he has ever known, Sierra deserves more than a monster with a past soaked in blood. But when danger from multiple quarters comes calling, including a titanic, ancient beast, Beck must make peace with the possessive, giant monster inside him...or lose everything.
Rancher Dragon is book 2 in the Texas Dragons series!
Terry is the author of over forty bestselling shifter romances. She spends her spare time dreaming of dragons, playing with her pets, and watching sunsets from her home in the mountains alongside her husband (who she suspects would make a great bear shifter). She loves the wild outdoors, her fans, all readers, and getting lost in a great book.

This book passed the time really well! It was a great in-between book while I was anxiously awaiting 2 big books to be released. It was quick, sweet, and to the point. Though I still think that these books would benefit from having a little more elaborate plot on a per book basis while including the overarching plot within the series.
Beck is my favorite type of hero. He's a monster of a dude who's actually a big teddy bear with the heroine. He was sweet, attentive, and just all around helped the heroine with whatever she needed done no questions asked. He was great!
Sierra was a sweet gal down on her luck that needed a little help from Beck or things were going to get worse. I liked how everything played out and I did appreciate the plot twist at the end, though like I said, I still wanted more.
The ending was so dang cute! I liked that things worked out enough for a happy for now ending for them. I also liked that the overarching plot is still in play with future books in this series still being released. I'm definitely interested in Clancy's book next!
My Favorite Quotes:
"I guess that's just how fate works sometimes. You never know if the person you're meeting might just be a rancher dragon you were destined to be with."
Okay so I thought the first book was good and left me in a hurry wanting the story on Dallas. But this book now has me ready to read about Clancy! I love how this one turned out great and simple.
2.5⭐️ (but rounded up bc it’s a stronger 2.5 than the first book)
Book two, babbyyyy!!!
We open up on a wounded Beck fresh off of a prairie basilisk attack and dying from his wounds. From the jump, Beck is filled to the brim with self-loathing and the insistence that he deserves to die, getting angry at the woman who finds him for trying to help him.
He’s determined to let his life end, repeating over and over again that he’s a monster for reasons unknown to the reader.
If we’re being honest, I thought Beck was just being melodramatic when building up the source of all this immense guilt and self-hatred but oh my God ?????? We uncover the truth around the halfway point and it’s so….😀😄
It’s bad. It’s really, really bad and I would probably assume I’m destined to cause pain and misery too if I were in his shoes.
He’s never had control over his inner dragon and has never felt the need to try to either…until Sierra 👀🤚
I’m neutral on Sierra. I’m noticing a pattern of of the women in these stories not having very significant personalities and the author leaving all of the intrigue in the men of Dragonclaw Ranch.
Sierra’s nice.
There’s a yuppy rich guy living off daddy’s money trying to gentrify the area and he talks like how the villains in childrens cartoons talk but I’m not gonna turn down an opportunity to watch Beck beat up creeps 🫣
It’s a sequel MUCH better than the first and gives me a lot of hope for the series, however just when it was starting to grow into a strong 3⭐️- maybe even a 3.5⭐️- we get the cheesiest, corniest, cringiest, most embarrassing villain monologue I have ever read in my entire life.
Christ.
CW: explicit sexual content, violence, sexual harassment, death, grief, brief moment of suicidal ideation, mass murder
This is the second book in the Texan Dragons series. You don't need to read the first one to understand this one, but it can help. This is the story of Breck, a dragon who thinks he is a monster and has a very bad self-image, and Sierra, a poor girl that is fighting to keep her legacy intact. She finds him half-dead and saves him, so he is supposed to owe her a favor, but he didn't mean to owe her anything, he thought he was going to die, so they end up in a difficult situation.
As expected, Beck discovers she is his mate, and falls in love with her, but some secrets in his past make it hard for him to accept he can have a mate, that he can be happy even. As we get to find out more about his past and the secret he holds, we find that he is not a monster after all.
Even if what really happened and the way things are resolved are kind of predictable, that doesn't take from the book, it is sweet, and romantic, and give us the happy ending we expect. I just want to read more about the characters.
Rancher Dragon is the second title in the Texas Dragons series, and it certainly is an emotional journey for our standoffish dragon, Beck. He’s kept to himself as much as possible in a group of dragons, a tiger, and a wolf will allow for so long now it’s hard to remember those “good ole days” when he willingly let the monster within loose. Beck believes his dragon is unstable and shifts only when absolutely necessary for his health or in a dangerous situation. What Beck isn’t seeing is that his “monster” dragon seems unstable to him because he isn’t let out often enough to know right from wrong, acceptable from the “no, don’t do that” stuff that his friends’ animals have learned over the years — but Beck is about to get an education on letting loose and allowing people in when he is badly injured in fighting the crews’ nefarious enemy and believes himself close to death. By handing his dragon talon coin to the beauty who is trying to save him, Beck is certain he’s only showing his friends where his dead body will be… surviving, and finding his mate never crossed his mind.
Surprise!
Now, this grumpy, standoffish dragon owes Sierra a favor and he might be fighting the attraction between them tooth and claw but fate has something else in store for Beck and Sierra. I absolutely adored Beck, he’s so clueless about things that it’s simply cute. Sierra is facing a man-made danger of her own, and Beck will fulfill that owed favor in helping her keep her ranch out of her enemy’s hands. Along the way, this couple is going to face other dangers, a fated mate attraction, and some sizzling sexy encounters before it’s all over and done.
Without giving plot points away, I’m going to say that I’m really enjoying the hints about this crew’s enemy and I can’t wait to see if it’s going to go in the direction that’s being hinted at… no more than that, just figuring out plot twists is a fun pastime. I had such fun with Rancher Dragon and now I’m ready to dive into Wrangler Dragon. I’m loving the sense that there’s that little bit of needed information just beyond my fingertips in the next story, it’s an anticipation that’s well played out in a way that’s not annoying along the way.
I don’t know why I keep reading these. They’re absolutely terrible but still weirdly fun??? The slang is overdone, I know more than Stetsons exist, the villain was a caricature, and I weirdly missed the other characters in this book, but I flew through this story anyway.
Also I have questions about what happened to the dog (he just vanished but he’s still there???)
Inhaled it. Literally inhaled this book. I can’t wait to see how absurd Clancy’s story is. If this is all my brain wants to read right now, I’m rolling with it.
This is an OK addition to the Texas Dragons series, but I did have one BIG issue with it. The author needs to research how people in Texas talk, because she had them talking as if they had absolutely no education, and constantly used bad grammar. Very few people in Texas actually say "Howdy, pardner", "I ain't" instead of "I'm not", call women "Darlin", etc. As a native Texan, I found it insulting that she wrote her characters as if all Texans talk like hicks with little to no education. That issue alone was enough to lower my rating to 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3 stars.
This book is about Beck and Sierra. I liked both Beck and Sierra better than the couple in the first book. Beck seemed incredibly grumpy at first, but it turned out he thought that was the only way to protect Sierra from the danger his dragon could cause her. Sierra was likable from the beginning, and seemed to immediately understand that Beck was a better person than his initial behavior showed. Beck did get a lot better as the story went on, and they made a good couple.
In spite of my issue with the way the characters talked, I did enjoy the story. I'm looking forward to reading the next one in the series. This book can be read standalone, but I think readers will enjoy it more if they read Terry's Double Dragons series first. The books in this series should also be read in order, since they contain plot lines that extend through the entire series.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
For maximum reader satisfaction and to prevent spoilers, I highly recommend these be read in series order, as there are reoccurring characters and overarching themes.
Contains subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language, steamy intimate scenes and violence such as harassment, intimidation, assault, betrayal, attempted rape, mental torture, fighting with some to the death, murder, etc.
This is an action packed PNR about dragon shifters, those that threaten the land and/or their potential mates, and what they will do to protect the ones they care about … even if it is from themselves.
There are a few grammatical issues, but nothing difficult to interpret. There was a gap or two in the storyline, but it was still had an engaging plot, good character interactions, and well developed chemistry between the H/h.
In this story, Sierra runs a neighboring ranch to the Dragonclaw. She finds him on her property, bleeding badly, and on the border of unconsciousness (after he was injured fighting an ancient mythological creature). He hands her a coin, tells her to give it to Harrison at the Dragonclaw Ranch and that he won’t be around anymore. She rides out to Harrison and they are able to save his life while she is distracted.
To say he is not happy is an understatement when Harrison insists that she keep the coin and in return for a favor that he owes her for saving him. He makes several comments that makes his thoughts clear about how she shouldn’t want a man / monster like him owing her, but Harrison doesn’t care. He expects him to issue an apology and handle whatever she needs to make it right.
Later when she is at home, she approached by a local spoiled guy that thinks he can have whatever he wants because of his daddy’s money. Too bad he has set his sights on Sierra and her ranch … Can she convince him to help her? Or, will his feelings of guilt prevent him from helping her when she is threatened by a local gang doing Ross’ biding?
A dramatic read from start to finish, had me captivated throughout This book was about Beck who was a Dragon that was well known for his living in the mountains and his reputation as a brave and celebrated fighter was known throughout the dragon world. He had fought and been injured and he had wanted to inform his friends of his injuries and the dragon coin would definitely inform them so that they knew he was going to die or had died. Sierra is on her family ranch and she helps Beck not realising at first his true nature and when she is once again threatened by an unknown assailant who believes he will take over her ranch by terrorising her sufficiently enough that she believes her only option is to marry him. Even with the problems she is facing she still without any consideration to her own safety she rescues him and treats the injuries he has sustained and without giving away the plot the couple begin to fall in love. The relationship between Sierra and Beck is truly heart wrenching and you will go through every emotion as you read this amazing story. It is true that true love can survive and grow in a disaster area and this story is a prime example of a love and a couple at the very best, I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
Rancher Dragon is the second book the Terry Bolryder’s Texas Dragons series. It is a fantastic paranormal romance filled with interesting characters, a great storyline and a happily ever after.
Sierra and Beck unexpectedly meet when she finds him injured and barely conscious on her land. As he lays dying he gives Sierra his dragon talon in hopes of her leading his friends to his final resting place. But fate has other plans. Beck is healed and he finds himself owing Sierra a favour for saving his life. Which works out perfectly, as she needs saving. As Beck guards Sierra and helps her on her ranch their feeling for each other begin to grow. Now Beck has to decide if he and his monster are what’s best for Sierra. But will he do it before an unknown foe destroys his last chance at happiness? Read it and find out.
I loved reading Rancher Dragon. The intense attraction between the main characters was amazing and I loved how Beck was always willing to put the needs of his mate before anything else. I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing series.
This is a voluntary review of a reader’s advance copy from the author.
This is book 2 in the Texas Dragons series. I love a growly damaged hero and the strong women who love them. Beck is a mountain dragon who keeps to himself and stays on Dragonclaw Ranch. He believes he’s dangerous and unworthy. Sierra owns a ranch neighboring Dragonclaw Ranch but has never met her neighbors. When Sierra comes across a bleeding, dying Beck, he gives her his dragon talon coin and asks her to contact Harrison and give him the coin so Harrison will know he’s dead. But Beck does not die and now owes Sierra a debt. A debt he’s reluctantly forced to repay when a land grabbing evil man tries to force Sierra to sell her ranch and marry him. On the way to their HEA, Beck and Sierra experience sweet moments, strong friendships, fan your face sexy times, dangerous situations, a hostile landscape, and loving shifter families. There is growth for both the main characters, though more for Beck than Sierra, as they let their past and their trauma go in order to embrace a new loving relationship and their future together. I will definitely keep reading more of this series - dragons and cowboys is a perfect mix.
Self-contained Beck is convinced his dragon is a monster, he’s prided himself on not giving his coin token to anyone for hundreds of years but when he finds himself bleeding to death near Dragonclaw on Sierra’s land, he gives it to her begging her to let his crew know he’d died and where. Sierra rushes to get Harrison and Beck is saved.
Everyone, even his inner dragon, is shocked how rude and ungrateful Beck acts toward Sierra. She helped the handsome cowboy because he needed it not so he’d owe her but she could use his help since a rich neighborhood bully’s intent on getting Sierra’s land, even if he has to force her into marriage to get it.
Beck realizes Sierra’s a bonafide damsel in distress when she accepts his apology but seems to break down when he re-terates he won’t repay a favor. Distressed damsels have always been Beck’s weakness. Too bad for the rich bully, Beck’s on the premises when he sends a biker gang to threaten Sierra! Or when home grown jealousy arrives. Rating: 4.25stars
The story starts of pretty heavy on the "cowboy jargon" but thankfully, it either tapered off or the story just got so interesting that I ignored it ( I have a problem with westerns and cowboy stories).
Beck our surly and usually drunk dragon shines in this story. I can't say much for Sierra but she stands by here dragon. Beck is the mountain dragon and he thinks he is a monster which is why he tries to stay away from everyone. We get his background and why he is the way he is and it is so intriguing that I found myselfrushing through this story to find out the truth behind his assumptions that he is a monster.
The last half of the book flew by but was so detailed and devious, I just could not put the book down. The epilogue is just sweet and now I am so anxious to read Clancy's book. I am still wondering about Gary.
Grab this (and don't worry about the cowboy aspect) and enjoy it.
These Texas dragons are really something elsr, but I hope Terry gives us a tiger and wolf story as well. It wouldn't be right to leave them mateless.
Beck believes that he is a monster who killed many innocent people. So when the feisty Sierra saves him, he is convinced that the best favor he can give is to leave her alone. But Sierra really needs his help. How can he not help out a damsel in distress? That is the start of a very intriguing story.
The pace is fast and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with a character oriented storyline that has some action and some steamy scenes. The characters are vibrant and kickass. How can you not like them? I love the different types of dragons that Terry is adding to the story. I am excited to read the next one and then seriously hope that Terry will give us Dallas and Reno's stories. Enjoy this exciting dragon shifter romance with a western theme!
Rancher Dragon (Texas dragons book 2) by Terry Bolryder is a 4 star read. Beck is a mountain dragon who is only good for fighting so when he goes down after a bad fight he thinks he’s about to die so he gives his dragon coin to a stranger and asks her to pass on a message to his friends. He doesn’t expect to live, but he does and when his past come calling can he stand up and be the man he should be? Sierra is working her family’s ranch alone, she’s being threatened by someone who wants the ranch and believes he will make her marry him, when she finds a man on her property dying she rushes to help him, she never expected to fall in love with him. This story is amazingly written, I love how the characters connect with each other. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
The biggest baddest dragon is saved by the sweetest, small woman, earning a special favor. A favor she tries to refuse even though she is in trouble and all alone.
He doesn't want to be near her--not because he isn't attracted--not at all. His dragon insists she's his even though he tries desperately to ignore his beast. When he witnesses her trouble that's it he's keeping her safe and more...read to find out.
Poor Beck has a history he can't remember but has been told making him believe he can never have a normal life. It hadn't been that much of a problem until Sierra.
Another story with a big strong alpha male with a heart to match. Ms. Bolryder and another favorite author are the best at sending stories that touch us and give the readers action, steam, creates amazing worlds, and love stories that touch our own hearts. Enjoy the book and the series.
Masterfully written, an AMAZING paranormal, western romance!
I think I'm hooked. No, I KNOW I'm hooked by this wonderful Western paranormal romance series by author Terry Bolryder! Her easy to read prose, ability to unravel the most complicated and mysterious personal tragities, while introducing and developing the most worthy characters, makes a novel by Terry Bolryder an experience every romance reader should have. RANCHER DRAGON, book two in the Texas Dragons series, is great place to start! I loved the compelling love story woven around Sierra and Beck. In fact, I think it's even better than "Cowboy Dragon," the first book of the series. Now I'm off to read the next book in the series. You need to catch up! Get RANCHER DRAGON on the top of your to-read pile TODAY! Happy pages! 😉
I absolutely loved Beck and Sierra's story. The story shows several different aspects of Beck's life as well as sad memories in his past. I love his big grumpy demeanor and how he looks out for his friends while refusing any praise. I like what Sierra brought out in him and what a great team they made despite Bell's doubt. Just an incredible story. But, please read book one first. It will make this such a better and more exciting reading experience. I mean why take a taste of your of your favorite dessert when you can have a full serving? And always remember, if you want to read a book you can't put down, you have to pick it up first. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and this is an honest review.
📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: When Beck is injured in a storm, the sassy and independent Sierra saves him. The mountain dragon can't trust himself, even if his inner dragon roars for his mate
🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: When I review these, it's always with context and against other Shifter or monster romances I've read. And the Texas Dragons series is fun, an easy read, and well-written.
I liked Beck's story. It incorporated the other characters super well too, so as a reader you're invested in the rest of their stories as well. If you like fated mates, swoony cowboys, some spice and a little bit of magic, you'll like these books.
Loving these big, tough dragon ranchers, this series is a really great read for these dark and depressing times. Beck has been at the Dragonclaw Ranch for quite some time, with gaps when he went wandering with his friend and fellow dragon TJ. Beck is a mountain dragon, big and strong. Sierra comes across Beck on the range, bleeding and nearly conscious. He gives her his Tallon and asks that she let Harrison know that he's not coming back. When he awakes, it's to be told that as he gave Sierra his Tallon then he owes her, especially as she saved his life! Sierra is a woman in need of help trying to keep her head above water running her family ranch.
I enjoyed this story a lot. There were so many things to like about this story. Beck lived and in doing so got his mate. A favor owed and a mate included. I was happy the bad guys all got what they deserved to some degree at least. Sierra got help she needed around her ranch and help keeping the bossy entitled people and evil people away. She got to watch a hot hunk of a man help fix up her place. Rancher dragon, dragon rancher but definitely mate is what he is. To bad he didn't listen to his dragon earlier he could have had his HEA so much longer. Read it and enjoy the tale of Sierra and Beck finding each other.
Beck is a mountain dragon who fears that he's done something really horrific in the past. Sierra saves him after a bout with a basilisk and then he owes her something and continues to help save her as well, as someone really wants her land. So they get closer this way, realizing they are mates. Throw in some danger emanating from Beck's past and it's a well rounded story.
I wish Beck was a little less easy to rile up regarding his past but overall, I liked the characters, including the supporting characters on the Dragonclaw ranch. A fun series, I'm looking forward to the rest of the HEAs for this cast of characters.
This story is a continuation of a series about some Dragons who have lived several lifetime. Its a sweet story, maybe too happy and nice for my preferences but I imagine some young people might find it fun. I read 2 in the series but I think I may miss the rest... Its just too descriptive and drawn out. I end up skimming the endless setting and situation pages to get to the conversation... Its hard to read a conversation when a question is asked and 4 or so pages later an answer of "no"... He I had to go back to see what was the question... I don't like too much descriptions.
What an amazing story! I absolutely loved this book! My heart broke for Beck! He was such an amazing man/dragon! So sweet, protective, and caring and so strong! Such a shame what happened to him. Sierra was such a perfect mate for him! I absolutely love these characters! Such a great storyline and very well written! This was one of my favorite reads by this author and I really enjoy all her books! This is a great series and I can’t wait for more! Very highly recommend!! Received arc and am voluntarily leaving an honest review
Beck does not think that he deserves to be in a wonderful relationship but he cannot stay away from Sienna . And when she needs help, he makes sure that he is dragon that is there to help.
I think this book has a lot of wonderful descriptive imagery that paints the picture of the Texas land.
I loved the story because Beck is so sweet. As the story progresses I could understand why he was the way he was. It took Sienna being as vocal as she was to get him out of his own mind to realize he was worthy of love.
Beck is a big softie and the ultimate protector at the Dragonclaw Ranch. He uses his strength and size to protect his friends at the Ranch, but a tragic event in his past keeps him from getting too close to anyone. That is until Sierra, Dragon claw's neighbor, helps him one night. Little did Beck know that even the protector needs a little protecting sometimes. Rancher Dragon was such a sweet love story. It was a story that was just pulled me in. The characters are wonderful, the story was romantic and steamy, and everything just fit perfectly together. I can't wait for the next book.
Beck was such a sweetheart. I absolutely adored him. Sienna was a good heroine and I liked that she stood strong for herself. Might be a slight trigger for some. A bad guy tries to rape Sienna but he doesn’t get far just touching her cheek and pushing her shirt off her shoulder. Looking forward to the rest of the stories!
Safe No ow slight om drama that is unwanted from the heroine Bad guy Slight suspense Dual POV Neither virgins no mention of eithers past. Eh epilogue only a few weeks later. I really wish these books had longer epilogues.
This book was so wonderful. Sierra and Beck gave me all the feels as as their story unfolded. Beck was really like my own personal kryptonite. Big, protective, a bit wounded but with a soft, sweet center, he totally had me swooning. I also thought Sierra was awesome. She was spunky. Together I thought they were a perfect match. The story itself was well written and engaging. A entertaining combination of drama, emotion, danger, steam and heart ensured that I was quite happy while getting my read on. I am posting a objective, elective review.
He believes he is a monster, she is determined to not give up her family's land. Neither can deny their feelings, but will he realize he isn't a monster before it is too late?
Was soooo excited to see this dragon find his happiness. I loved how he was determined to do what he could to protect those he cared about even when he did think he was a monster and at fault for the past. I loved how she was able to see past the others fronts and was able to read what the true character of people. Good read!

This is my newest, favorite dragon series to date! This group of characters are so much fun! These poor Texas Dragons haven’t a clue what to do with these feisty, independent, incredible women that they are privileged to find out they are their mates! Gary steals the show again, though him attacking Copperheads was funny! Only disappointment was no crew movie night with the gals having these dominant shifters watching The Notebook or another Nicholas Sparks Movie!! That was the best part from the first book in this Series!
