An injured (and gassy) goose has crashed onto the Worthington estate, and no one cares except for young Valeria. That all changes when the bird starts laying solid-gold eggs! But as soon as the Worthingtons try to force the goose to lay a fortune, the egg comes out totally ROTTEN. Can Val help her feathered friend escape before the greedy family tries something extreme? These Far Out Fables are well worth the coupla minutes it takes to read them, imo. Kids will probably think the funniest part is the farts, or the stinky eggs. I thought the 'experts' brought in to 'encourage' the goose to lay golden eggs for the rich people were the funniest aspect.

I especially appreciate the back matter, which explores the original, the deviations, and the strategies one can use to better parse the text & images of the graphic novel. I think it would be fun to share this with children, especially as a parent of children who are becoming more independent readers. (Because it's best if you can keep on reading together somehow as long as they're willing.)

"Of course, Valeria had no secret besides actually caring for Petunia."

When Valeria's spoiled cousin Chad knocks a migrating goose out of the sky with his drone, Valeria goes in search of the bird. It is injured, so Valeria hides it and takes care of it. In appreciation, the goose (now known as Petunia) lays a golden egg. But when Valeria's greedy aunt and uncle find out about Petunia's special talent, they grab possession and try to coerce as many golden eggs from Petunia as they can. But for them, she only lays rotten eggs.
