Air Force Romance #2

Fly Home to Me (Flying in Love, #2)

Rate this book
A traffic jam is the last thing Piper Holland has patience for. The dry cleaner’s will soon close, and she really hopes to wear her luxury silk blouse when she pitches her theme to the editors of the magazine she works for. But when she finally sees what’s caused the backup, she feels a pinch of guilt: a man in a military uniform is gallantly pushing a stalled vehicle off the road. Suddenly her rush to the dry cleaner’s seems incredibly unimportant. Fate offers Piper a chance to redeem herself, however, when the handsome good Samaritan crosses her path again.

Gabriel Orsini, a fighter pilot stationed at Luke Air Force Base, seems to be the perfect man, and an assignment at the magazine offers Piper the perfect chance to get to know him better. Her “Day in the Life: Hometown Heroes” article was tailor-made for the bighearted pilot. Before long, their interviews for the article enter date territory, and Piper realizes she’s falling for Gabriel. But her tragic past has taught her one thing: everyone leaves. And the transient lifestyle of a military man leaves her no doubt that Gabriel will eventually abandon her too. With her heart on the line, Piper must decide: is the risk of loss worth the possibility of forever?

There is something about how this author writes her heroines… this is the second book I’ve read of hers and this heroine was as frustrating as the first. I did love the hero and enjoyed the book as a whole, but dang.

Readers, I have a new book boyfriend. His name is Gabriel Orsini, and between his grins and winks and knee-melting kisses and romantic nature, he’ll leave you swooning in his wake, too. Oh, and did I mention he’s an Air Force pilot? And that when first we meet him, he’s pushing an elderly man’s minivan out of the middle of the road? By himself. You know those IG reels that ask “Worthy of a romance novel?” … well, the resounding answer for Gabe is HECK YES. Seriously, his romantic gestures alone would earn him a place in my book boyfriend collection, but all of his swooniliciousness together is just…. where’s my fan? I grinned. A lot. And I have a feeling you will too.

Piper is a wonderful heroine in her own right. She’s smart and witty and has a good heart. She’s got some walls built up though, thanks to some tough losses in her life, and I really loved that her journey toward healing involved her growing relationship with God AND regular communication with a therapist. I am a firm believer in a counselor or therapist to help us see things from the right perspective when we can’t process all the information and hurt on our own. I confess I may have wanted to (gently & in love) purse whomp her a couple of times because… GABRIEL … but thankfully she comes to her senses without needing my intervention haha. Watching her blossom as she does the work to restore the relationships she’s pushed away is truly heartwarming and encouraging, and because the story is engagingly written from her perspective we get a front row seat to her progress.

Bottom Line: Gabriel & Piper’s journey to happily-ever-after in Fly Home to Me is not always a smooth one but it is super sweet & lots of fun. As I already mentioned, I grinned a lot – in fact, I’m pretty sure my smile was stuck in place through 95% of the book. Once Gabriel fell for Piper, he was all in and gosh there’s something so swoony about that. Piper takes a bit longer to let go of her fears and fully commit in return, but it’s in walking with her through the process that readers will find themselves examining their own hearts, too. This tender romance with plenty of sparks & great kisses also gives us a peek at Air Force life & a new appreciation (and compassion) for those who love an active duty member of the military. The perfect choice for fans of sweet romance with a gentle faith thread!

Okay, so I wasn't a fan of such novels where it contains navy and military.. because it feels hard to let the loved ones go

In Some way I felt I could recognise Piper's fear, she has lost some ppl on her family and grief took in form of fear and couldn't let her love completely any person unfortunately she feels all these emotions only for Captain Orsini whome she's afraid to love

This way really good, this explains everything I was afraid of .. you know being left behind.. but after reading this fully I could understand the love and faith that takes to build up the courage to letting ourselves to fully love
This story was really good.. their relationship, love, faith.. family, work.. aww.. it's such a well built book y'all
I did feel a lil bit dragged but it was okay.. it's just perfect title and description
Gabriel steals your attention
It was so lovely to read their story.. you'll enjoy it
It's a good one time read

When everything worked out for them it felt so good to see them together and Captain Orsini proves that there are perks for this too😉

This sweet and gentle romance follows Piper's healing journey as she comes to terms with how her losses and grief are affecting her relationships. Her parents and one of her brothers had been killed in a car accident several years previously, and the fear and anxiety she developed over losing those she loves influences her relationships with her remaining brothers, sister-in-law, best friend, and dating life. I appreciated that her process of awareness and change included long term work with her therapist as well as her deepening relationship with God through church and prayer. She is well put together and successful in her career, and Gabriel's sunny personality instantly draws her to him. Their rapport develops quite naturally and is refreshingly realistic. Gabriel is patient as she gets used to the idea of ditching her four-date rule and moving into a meaningful relationship. I felt like her constant worrying overshadowed the joy of their falling in love, and I found it a little difficult to connect to those feelings. The lessons she learns about reconciliation and letting go of her perceived control bring both depth and light to her character and I was happy to see her growth by the end of the story. The pace of the book is on the slower side with plenty of details that bring each scene to life, allowing me to easily envision them in my mind.

Full of emotions, lighthearted and heavy. I loved this newest book from Chalon Linton.

Piper is a homebody. She's lost several family members in a car accident and loves her quiet time as well as everything being organized. She's wonderful at her job and enjoys her life. But catching a good samaritan and trying to return the good deed throws her life into a bit of a tailspin.

Gabriel Orsini enjoys traveling, adrenaline, serving his country, helping others in need and getting to know Piper. He will forever be grateful for the circumstances of him helping someone else that brought Piper into his life.

I was hooked from the beginning of this book. I loved Gabriel and Piper right away. I could tell that there was a lot of underlying emotions and concerns that these characters held onto. But I loved the way that the author wrote Piper's thoughts that the readers experience it all right alongside her and understand her reservations so much more. I love seeing both characters' POV but truly enjoyed the mystery of Gabriel's character and only seeing him through Piper's eyes.

Talk about a gentleman! Gabriel was kind and thoughtful and wasn't afraid to open himself up to Piper and get to know her. The witty banter from the beginning was so much fun! And the chemistry between these two. Talk about some fireworks!!!

I'll admit that I shed a few tears while reading this one. Piper's struggles and desires touched me and I felt for her. The ache she carried and tried to heal from. So well written!

If you enjoy contemporary stories with military/airforce asepcts, I highly recommend reading this book as well as the first book, Flying in Love. Both work as stand alone novels. Grab a pizza to enjoy while you read it. You'll thank me later!!! ;-)

Content: Clean. This book deals with lose of family members in a car accident, therapy and military life. Only kissing, nothing further.

I received a copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Seriously. I cannot get over the sweetness of Gabriel Orsini. He is the perfect everything- respectful, kind, attentive, attractive, strong, loyal, patient. I could probably list a lot more of those adjectives but you would get bored. haha. Does Gabriel seem too good to be true? He almost is. I mean, there were no imperfections in this book so if you are dreaming up a perfect man, look no further than Gabriel.

There did seem to be an imbalance in this relationship with Gabriel's perfection and Piper's struggling. Because I didn't get Gabriel's point of view, I'm not exactly sure what attracted him to Piper in such a devoted manner but he was in 100%. The heart wants what the heart wants. Piper's journey was one of healing and forgiving. Her peace came as she shifted her attitude and thinking and reached out in love. It was satisfying as a reader to watch her finally get over her blame of others and find real peace.

I really enjoyed this book. It was gentle and sweet.

This was such a beautiful romance! There is so much depth to the loss and loneliness Piper had felt. I could understand her reasoning behind her decisions and the fears that led to them. Her journey to God was also touching. I’m a fan!

I may be or may not be in love with Gabriel. He is amazing! His sacrifices and willingness to do what’s necessary for others just melted my heart. He also was perfect for Piper.

If you’re looking for a cute romance that will not only bring a smile to your face but make you appreciate the sacrifices of those in the military and their families.

About the book:
Piper has dealt with a lot in her life. With the passing of her parents and brother in a car accident, she is left hurting and with a whole lot of rules to keep herself from getting her heart broken again. That is, until she meets a handsome fighter pilot who makes her rethink all of her rules.
Not only that, but he is the subject for her magazine article she is writing. This book is so cute! I absolutely loved all the flirting. Definitely felt butterflies while reading this one.

I received a complementary advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest review. This in no way affected my opinion. It was a great read!

Romance, contemporary, sweet; Series, but stand alone read
Piper and Gabriel's story was a sweet military romance. Piper, still clinging to the ravages of grief from the death of her parents and brother in a tragic car accident, meets a handsome pilot in a coincidental meeting at a dry-cleaner after she witnesses him helping a stranded older gentleman.
Her heart is closed off as her fear of not wanting to hurt or lose someone has her frozen at multiple relationship levels, family, friends, and romantic.
Gabe's honest friendship, many courtesies and kindnesses, along with some thoughtful romantic gestures and dates, soften Piper's heart, and help with her healing.
This was a sweet romance, filled with Piper's many frustrations and fears, and Gabe's steady and constant dedication and care for her.
In one sense, this was really a novel of Piper's journey not only to love but to healing for her myriad fears, immense grief and helping her find the courage to live again and take risks. C.L. worked in Piper's work concerns and assignments, family, friends, and of course Gabriel's Air Force friends and career in a lovely portrait not only of the romance, but every day life for all of her characters along with Piper's healing journey.
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. My opinions are my own.

This story felt so authentic to me! Piper was a woman who carried a lot of grief for the family members that she lost a few years earlier. The way she handled that grief impacted her ability to open herself up to others. She didn’t want to hurt any more. It was hard to watch as she allowed fear to keep her from truly giving in to love.

Gabriel was such a great hero! He went all out for Piper and did everything within his power to show her how he felt. He was a patient and kind man, yet also had a great sense of humor and loved to flirt with Piper.

I felt so many emotions related to these two. My heart soared as things were working out for them and their feelings were growing and my heart hurt as they faced difficulties related to Gabriel’s career as a fighter pilot.

I enjoyed this story from start to finish and even though it is book two in a series, I had no trouble reading it as a stand alone novel.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Move over Top Gun!

Linton's Flying in Love series has been pretty amazing and this story proves it. Gabe is such a strong protagonist that melts the heart and forces swoons with his thoughtfulness, good looks, and oozing charm. Piper has trust issues and I loved watching her work through them and own up to her inadequacies.

Piper works for a magazine and I found the feature this book centered around to be quite interesting and allowed the reader to catch a deeper glimpse into Gabe's innate character.

The military life wouldn't be easy, especially for someone like Piper, and this author does a beautiful job of portraying the good and the bad, while weaving in tight familial connections and a blossoming love. I loved the connections to religion and how they can play a part in faith for the future and healing. And I love, love, loved the sweet romance. True love, not fear, can conquer all.

Content: mild, swoony romance; mild+ religion

Fly Home to Me is a novel that just makes you feel good while you are reading it. Piper and Gabe are two people who have had heartache in the past. Piper tries to shut herself off from other people and Gabe cares about everyone. It is interesting to think about how people handle stress, heartache, and other trials differently.

Gabe is just a good man who is perfect for Piper. He is patient and in all sense a gentleman. To me, this story was more about Piper. She has to change her perception and her goals to find happiness. Her transformation is compelling and feels real. I'm not going to say a lot about it, because this is a book that I recommend for everyone.

I enjoyed the patriotic aspects of the book. Gabe is a fighter pilot. The book brought home how much our men and women in service (and their families) sacrifice.

The romance is sweet. This book is all about forging a relationship. The trials, the friendship, the ups and downs that come when you fall in love.

The book kept my attention from start to finish. The pacing is great, the plot is solid, and the characters are wonderful. It is a Christian romance.

This book by Chalon Linton was amazing! I loved everything about it. It was a hard one to put down!

Piper is such a great character. One thing I found great about her was that she was able to pinpoint her problems and work toward fixing them. She was very teachable and honest with herself about the things she struggled with. I loved how she and Gabriel met. How could you not fall for the guy who was the only one willing to help an old man out when he needed it?

I loved Gabriel too. One thing that I wished was that the reader could see what he was thinking. But this was all told from Piper’s perspective, so that wasn’t an option. That left Piper feeling confused during some of the parts and the reader too. But…I digress. Gabriel was a true hero. Willing to to out of his way to help those in need. And also serving his country.

There is a great cast of characters in this book. I loved them all. And it was great to see how they all fit together and interacted with Piper and Gabriel.

The plot of this one kept me interested and wanting to read more. I would have gladly given up sleep to finish reading this one. It was amazing! I really hope there are more in this series.

I was sent a copy of Fly Home to Me as a gift from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Fly Home to Me was such a sweet romance to read. Piper Holland is such a relatable character. Her struggles with relationships because of the extreme losses she suffers makes me feel such compassion for her and Gabriel Orsini is such a hunk of a man in both appearance (for Chalon Linton does a great job of describing him) and in character. These two work so well together.

Oftentimes authors will use another possible love interest to create some drama but Chalon does not do this to the extreme. There is a hint of one but Piper knows who she is interested in and doesn't let the possibility of money distract her. I loved that about this story. It really is about the emotional growth of Piper and her process of trusting that people wont leave her.

The whole story flowed so well and while military is an aspect of the story- it isn't overwhelming. That part compliments the rest of the story and adds an exciting aspect to create a really enjoyable read.

Aww, what can I say? If you like romance, pilots, food( lots of pizza), hot weather this is the book for you! Piper meets Gabriel while waiting(in traffic) to pick up her drying cleaning, only to find out this very good-looking man helping out someone in need, while in traffic. It turns that Gabriel was also going to the same dry cleaners to pick up some items, and Piper wanted to pay for his items but he wouldn't let her...and of course he got her phone number...

Such a fantastic read! I really enjoyed Flying in Love and was so excited that the author wrote another air force romance!

Piper has been dealing with tragic loss in her life when she meets Gabriel, a fighter pilot stationed at the nearby base. She works as a journalist and the timing of their meet cute was perfect because she needs a military hero for her current story. But as the two spend time together, lines become blurred and Piper has to decide if she can risk being hurt again.

I actually identified with Piper for several reasons (and ironically Gabriel's personality reminds me of my husband) and I am so glad that the author had Piper seeing a therapist as well as praying for help and guidance. So many CF authors leave out that first part and it can be so misleading.

The romance was very sweet (the notes and packages were adorable!) and Gabriel was definitely a patient man, a master flirt, and a swoon-worthy hero.

The only things that could have made this story even better would have been to have Gabriel's perspective as well as an epilogue. But even without those things, I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to see more in this series. 4.5 stars for this adorable and flirty air force romance!

I received a complimentary copy of this book but a positive review was not required.

Chalon Linton has turned out to be one of my favorite authors the past few years. One of the things I like most about her writing is her characters. She is absolutely brilliant at creating characters that readers love, whether it be a Regency book or a Christian Romance book. Fly Home To Me is no exception. Piper and Gabriel are so well written that you are drawn into their lives immediately. Be aware, neither character is perfect, as Piper is still dealing with intense grief after so many losses in her life. Well, Gabriel is almost perfect! I love this character and he is my new swoon-worthy male that I wished was mine.

The series, Flying in Love, are Air Force romances with a Christian theme. Readers get a good insight into what life is like having a love interest or spouse who is in the Air Force. Better yet, Chalon Linton herself is an Air Force spouse so you can tell she knows what she's talking about. Fly Home To Me shows how hard it is to adjust your thinking and lifestyle to this way of life. Piper is on a huge journey of not only opening her heart to love again but also opening her mind and heart to the Air Force lifestyle. She goes through some huge, heart-breaking changes in this novel. Gabriel is the epitome of what love and support should look like. Even though he has also loved and lost in his life, his natural goodness and resiliency shine forth as he and Piper fall in love.

I loved this novel! I loved the romance, the steamy kisses...while keeping it clean, the Christian themes of turning to God, and the incredible relationship Piper and Gabe develop. Fly Home To Me is an excellent second novel in this series that I highly recommend you check out. I'll be looking forward to the next novel that Linton writes.

This one is swoony and so strongly written. I love Gabriel and Piper. I love the way real life problems and fears are addressed. This story was so organic and natural.

Piper is in marketing and loves Phoenix. Her faith has been a bit shaken since losing her parents. Gabriel is so natural and comfortable with himself, you can't help but notice his confidence. He may be my next candidate for book boyfriend. He is that good! He is thoughtful and listens. He is attentive. Piper is comfortable in her life and doesn't like change. What follows is a real life look at dealing with issues that may come up dating a handsome pilot or any one in the military for that matter.

The story is deep and thoughtful, romantic and fun. It organically addresses faith and fear. I loved every word and was drawn in almost instantly. This is the second stand alone book in the series and it is even better than the first book.

I received an early copy through the publisher and NetGalley and this is my honest review.

This was a wonderful book by Chalon Linton. It drew me in from the first page and I didn’t want to stop reading. I loved the characters especially how sweet and funny Gabe was. I loved how Piper had to work through a lot of issues before she could be with the man she loved even though it would be hard. I liked learning more about the Air Force and what they do. I loved the romance between these two characters. Wonderful book!

A heartfelt and entertaining Christian contemporary romance, this book was a really enjoyable read for me. The Air Force elements were very well-done and I was grateful that the author showed her personal knowledge, but in a way that educated me instead of leaving me feeling removed or confused. I could tell it was accurate to real life in a way that left me feeling smarter and having more understanding.
Piper has a hard time letting people in after the death of her parents and brother leaves her with some abandonment issues. I struggled a few times initially with her character to be honest, but by the end I learned to like her and I was glad the author included scenes that helped me understand the struggles she was facing internally and some of the reasoning for her actions, which actions/sentiments sometimes felt somewhat selfish or a little harsh. She grows throughout the story and I really liked seeing that progress.
Gabriel is a fighter pilot and now one of my favorite heroes. His ability to flirt and the AWESOME banter between him and Piper made this book SO much fun for me. It was swoony and flirty in all the best ways and his character is what tipped this to five starts for me. I laughed/smiled so many times at Gabriel's cuteness and flirty comments. He really was a stud and I found his relationship with Piper believable, they were well matched.
Definitely a book I highly recommend. I can't wait for more in this standalone series.
This is a clean contemporary romance with some Christian themes. I received an advance reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I live near an Air Force Base, and I even worked on base for a few years in college. There's something so moving and special about stopping for the National Anthem every day. Hearing jets fly over multiple times a day is a regular part of life for us, but Air Force life isn't something I know much about. Learning from Piper and Gabriel's story about the unpredictability and "language" was so fascinating to me! It gives me so much more appreciation for those that serve our country and their families that support them.
Gabe is such a delightful, handsome flirt!! I don't think I'll ever look at pizza without heart eyes again. As Piper and Gabriel build a relationship, the moments and conversations they have are so sweet and real. I love that Piper works through her "hard things" to make their happiness a real possibility.
I read this in 2 days. It's absolutely wonderful and worth every second!

Thank you to the author, Chalon Linton, and the publisher, Covenant Communications, for my advanced copy of this novel. As always, all opinions expressed in this review are my own.

When is love worth the risk?
A compelling story of fear based in loss and working to move through it towards a better future. Piper lost both her parents and one brother in a car accident. Shortly afterwards another brother marries, her last brother moves out of state and she also, loses her best friend. Piper clings to everything familiar even more than before, pushing away anything that might have even the possibility of causing change or new loss. She pushes away friends, boyfriends, and new friends. Then she meets Gabriel, a fighter pilot stationed at the nearby air base. Going against all she has held to, she decides to allow this charming, fun pilot into her life. What will happen when the realities of military life begin to affect her? How can she choose between stability with predictability and the regular changes with the unpredictability required of life in a military family? I received an early copy and this is my honest review. Although this is second in a series it is completely a standalone and can be read as such. That said I highly recommend both this and the first book.

Let me start out this review saying, this book is one of the best contemporaries I’ve read to date. I loved book 1 in this series, but I am enamored with book 2. I would even say that for me, this is Chalon Linton’s best book she has ever written.

Piper and Gabriel are full of chemistry. I love their dialogue back and forth! The writing of their romance and character growth has left my heart full for days. I love the story they have to tell. As with the first book, I loved all of the Air Force details. The Air Force jargon felt conversational, easy to understand and not forced. I loved the descriptions of Arizona and as someone who has spent more than 10 years in the valley of the sun it was 100% accurate.

There were so many elements woven into this story that made me fall in love with it that it has has secured a spot on my “Best of 2021” reading list. If you are looking for a feel-good, heart-warming story please pick this one to read. Whatever reading mood you are in, this will fit the bill.

Thanks to NetGalley and the author for the copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

A sweet read from Chalon Linton! Fly Home to Me is one of those stories that sucks you in and doesn’t let you stop reading until you’re done. It’s a good length for an afternoon read, and is sure to entertain. Although I didn’t love the characters and wanted an epilogue, I enjoyed this little peek into another side of air force life. I hope Linton writes more in this series! 3.5/5 stars
