This is a Romance. I loved parts of this book, but there was parts I did not like. I found the characters really where not developed until more then half the book was done. I also could not believe parts of this book. I did enjoyed the end of the book, but I did not really love the beginning or the middle. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Harlequin Special Edition) or author (Christine Rimmer) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Payton Dahl is the youngest of the three sisters. She is a free spirit and trying to decide what to do with her life besides bartend and help out on her aunt’s farm. Everything changes after a fun and intense week long no-strings attached week with Easton Wright.
Four years later and Payton is a published author with beautiful twin boys when Easton runs into her again. The sexual feelings are still there, but Payton is not ready to just jump into a permanent relationship.
I loved both main characters and felt the story brought up many realistic problems any couple would face in the same situation. A difficult past history and fear can be big emotional hurdles and I feel they were handled well by this author. I liked that when they meet again, Payton is on a more level playing field economically with her best selling novels and the twins are just adorable. The sex scenes are explicit, but not gratuitous.
I enjoyed every moment of this story and I am glad it is a trilogy with more to come.
Payton Dahl allowed herself a perfect week with a stranger she met in a bar. Easton Wright wants nothing more than a carefree week with Payton. They didn’t even share last names. Once the week ended, they went their separate ways.
Things don’t quite go the way Payton thought they would and she ends up pregnant. Thanks to her own rules, she has no way of contacting Easton and letting him know he is about to be a father. Meanwhile, Easton can’t forget the beautiful woman he spent a week with and he does everything he can to find her, but he has no luck.
Four years later…they finally meet again. Easton is more than shocked to find he’s the father of twin boys. Payton wants him to have a relationship with them, but wants to go slow for everyone’s sake.
The hero was easy for me to fall in love with, but Payton took me a little time to warm up to. In the end, I was cheering for these two and their cute little boys.
It’s a heartwarming tale with two characters wanting the same things, but scared to take them. There were a few times I wanted to knock some sense into Payton but in the long run it made for a beautiful love story.
Christine Rimmer has been a “go to” author for me for years. She always provides touching romances with realistic characters. This is the first in a new series and I’m looking forward to reading the next one.
FTC Disclosure: I voluntarily reviewed a free Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I usually like Christine Rimmer’s HR romances and secret baby tropes, especially when the kid(s) belong to Hero & heroine but unfortunately this one did not work for me because I found the heroine unlikable from the start and she never really improved in my eyes. Hero on the other hand was another story and the kids were adorable but when you don’t like one character, it is hard to see any chemistry or romance.
I received an advance copy from Publisher or Author for an honest opinion. What didn’t work for me though, may work for you.
Terrific second chance love story. Five years earlier, Payton worked part-time as a bartender at the Heartwood Inn, lived on and helped at the family farm, and attempted to write a fantasy novel. A former "wild child," Payton vowed to put those days behind her and concentrate on her writing. That means no distractions like men. But on a particularly dull night at the bar, a visiting businessman caught her eye.
In town for a week checking out the Inn as a possible acquisition for the family business, the bartender intrigues Easton. They spend a pleasant evening talking between customers and trying to ignore the sparks flaring between them. They agree on a week-long fling when the chemistry becomes too much to resist, but Payton has conditions. First names only, no exchanging of personal information such as emails or phone numbers, and no contact when it's over. Easton reluctantly agrees, and they spend an amazing week together. At the end, Easton wants to continue seeing her, but Payton sticks to her guns - a move she later regrets when she ends up pregnant with no way to find Easton to tell him.
Five years later, the single mother of twin boys, Payton has nearly given up hope of ever finding Easton. Shocked when she encounters him at a local farmers' market, Payton knows she needs to tell him the truth. Easton, who never forgot her, unsuccessfully tried to find her six months after their fling and is thrilled to find her. Once Easton recovers from the shock of his unexpected fatherhood, he immediately wants to be involved in their lives.
I enjoyed watching the relationship between Easton and Payton develop. Easton never forgot Payton, and his feelings for her never diminished. He wants nothing more than for them to become a family for real. Payton is much warier. Her early life taught her that men are unreliable, and she hesitates to risk her heart on him. While Easton wants to marry Payton and be a family, he understands Payton's wariness. He promises to be patient and mostly succeeds with the occasional relapse. I loved watching them grow closer through activities with the boys and time alone together. I liked the realistic pace of the story as it progresses from early fall to Christmas.
Their relationship looks promising until a disastrous visit with Easton's family stirs up Payton's insecurities and causes her to pull back. I ached for Easton, whose love for her has grown stronger. Despite her love for him, Payton still fears being left. I understood Easton's frustration, and I sometimes wanted to shake Payton and make her see what she was doing. I liked the support she received from her family, including the straight talk she got from both sisters. But it was the appearance of an unexpected visitor that truly opened her eyes. The ending was fantastic, with emotional confessions from Payton and a sweet role reversal to wrap it up.
The secondary characters were great. The twins, Penn and Bailey, were adorable and pretty accurate to their ages. I liked how they took to Easton even before they knew he was their father. Payton's sisters each provide support for Payton when she needs them most. I'm looking forward to reading their stories and seeing them find love, too. I loved Easton's brother, Weston, who was in Easton's corner the entire time. He's a bit more on the wild side than Easton, and I'd love to see him get a story of his own. Easton's parents play a significant role in the book, also. I adored his dad, Myron, but his mom took a while to win me over.
Payton Dahl is a single mother to four-year-old twin sons, Penn and Bailey. She lives in Heartwood, Oregon with her sons, her sister and Aunt M who basically raised her. Payton helps out on the farm there as well as writing fantasy novels. Five years ago before Payton became published she had a part-time job as a bartender at the Larch Tree Tavern in the Heartwood Inn. Payton put up with the hateful manager there because the money came in handy and the hours worked well with her writing. The bar in the Heartwood is where she met Easton. That's all she knew, his first name. The two agreed to a no strings attached fling so no last names, no sharing cell phone numbers or email addresses. No contact after Eaton leaves. They spend a wonderful week together. At the end Payton refused to change the rules and give Easton her personal information even though Easton had changed his mind and wanted to keep seeing Payton. Three months later Payton finds herself pregnant with Eaton's twins. She can't find him to tell him. Meanwhile Eaton returned to Heartwood six months after he left to try to change Payton's mind. The mean, hateful manager at the Heartwood Inn who had fired Payton lied to Easton and told him Payton had married and moved away. Fast forward five years...
Easton Wright's family owns Wright Hospitality, a company that purchases and renovates inns and motels. Five years ago Easton visited the Heartwood Inn looking to acquire the property. That didn't work out at the time but now that Easton is the CEO of the company he is back to purchase the property. He wasn't expecting to again see Payton, the woman he never forgot and still loves. He was shocked to learn he is the father of twin boys. Easton wants to unite his family but Payton is reluctant. Easton realizes he needs to be patient but he is determined to have his family together.
The Father of His Sons by Christine Rimmer is the first book in her Wild Rose Sisters series. This is a heartwarming second chance romance, secret baby story. The storyline tells a tale of two people who fall in love, lose each other and struggle to get things right enough for a Happily Ever After. I enjoyed how cute the four-year-old twin boys are in the story. The book highlights the value of family and friendship. This is a good beginning to the series.
Fantastic read and can be a stand alone but it leaves you wanting more. Payton’s story. She’s a full time writer & part time bartender with no intention of ever getting serious with anyone. While working the bar a gorgeous man named Easton who is staying in town on a business trip walks in and she can’t stop the temptation so she sets rules. No last names, no personal information and no exchange of numbers period. They spend a wonderful week together and although Easton wants more, Payton walks away. Months after he is gone she finds out she’s pregnant with his twin sons. She tries for several years to find him but cannot. One day while working a market for her families farm he walks in. She agrees to a date and on the date she tells him about the boys, gives him a journal she has kept for him all this time and walks away. Payton has a lot of relationship issues due to her childhood. Easton has unexpected issues of rage with his parents when he talks her into meeting them. Will they all sort through this or will Payton walk away? Will Easton’s parents rage cease or cause more issues? This one I won’t give more details about because it is just that good of a story that the reader needs to experience themselves. It will not disappoint because it will constantly leave you wanting to get to the next page. Best story I have read in a long time!
Easton Wright is utterly floored to discover that he has four-year-old twin sons. When he first spots them he thinks that that mother must be in another relationship. But wny is it that Payton Dahl never told him about the boys?
Several years before the two had a brief relationship. A relationship with rules. Thus, they parted ways, despite the fact that they were perfect for each other. Now that Payton and Easton have met each other again, what will they do with the fact that Easton has twin boys?
She is not attached to anyone. Easton learns that early on? Will they be able to resurrect those intense feelings for each other and perhaps make a family together? What are the conflicts they face and are they strong enough together to conquer those things?
I loved this story. From Easton, to Payton, to the darling boys, this was a wonderful story from beginning to end. I love that it is the first book in a new series and I look forward to reading more about the sisters in future books?
Many thanks to and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Payton Dahl has no plans on getting involved with anyone ever. One night she meets a man named Easton, no last names were exchanged. They flirt with each other while she is working in a lounge. The attraction and chemistry is off the charts, so they decide to have a week long fling. At the end they will go their separate ways. A few weeks later Payton realizes she is pregnant and has no way to find Easton. Fast forward 5yrs fate has a way of throwing two people together when they least expect it. Throw in old insecurities, a mom who let's her emotions get the best of her and 2 precocious twin boys and you have a wonderful story.
Payton is a bartender and her boss doesn't really like her. There's a rule no mingling with the guests in their rooms. However, she's a little on the wild side, she meets Easton in his room after she gets off work. He's only in town a week. They agree to a no strings attached no information given fling.
Things just didn't work out like they planned. Now when she tried to find him she had no idea how.
I really enjoyed the story and as usual couldn't put Jer book down. I think you'll enjoy it too
Payton and Easton had an agreement they were only in it for a good time and that was all. No information exchanged and they wouldn't meet again. Problem is Payton ended up pregnant with no way to contact the father and its been a few years. Now they unexpectedly see eachother once again and she gotta break the news as well as see what will become of their lives now that he's back.
Well this was pretty enjoyable contemporary romance read. I enjoyed the characters and getting to know them. Payton was a pretty independent women who can be relied on for those around her and a good mother. Then there was Easton who was a hard worker in his family business and was thrown when he finds out about his kids but will do everything he can to make sure he's in their lives there is no time to waste. I do feel like he rushed into it a bit but he was a guy who was straight forward. I enjoyed the romance between the two as well and that Payton was a bit more level headed when it came to their whole situation trying to keep a bit of distance I mean understandably while Easton was rushing into things it cant just be like that there would be so much at stake. Overall this was a nice read and I really enjoyed it.
The Father of Her Sons is the first in a new series about Payton and her two sisters. This one is Payton's story. Five years ago, Payton met Easton. They decided to have a week of bliss and then walk away. No strings attached, no last names, no phone numbers. Now Easton is back in town and he has a big surprise awaiting him.
As you all know I'm really not a fan of secret baby stories. I always feel like the woman could have tried harder to find the father and let him know. That being said, I did end up enjoying this one. I thought Easton was sweet and I loved his "all in" attitude. The kids were cute as well. Payton did take me a bit longer to warm up to. I thought she made him work a little too hard to win her over. The ending was sweet and made the journey worth it. I am interested in reading the next books about her sisters.
The Father of Her Sons is a pretty laid-back, easy-going story for most of the book. There is that required bit of angst but not until the last part of the story. This one does require some suspension of disbelief - I'm not saying it's completely impossible, but I'd go so far as to call it darned improbable. That's not a dealbreaker by any means. I liked the characters and I'm a sucker for a single-parent romance as well as surprise baby. I guess this is more surprise kiddos, but it amounts to the same. Payton and Easton are really good as a couple, and I enjoyed the easy pacing of this love story. This is also the first in a new series, so I'll be interested to see what's next for Christine Rimmer's Wild Rose Sisters series.
Loved this feel good book. For it was a fast pace and when I started reading it and Payton and Easton met it felt like I had only read 10 pages to look up and see I was on page 57 and before you know it the book is over. It is a quick read and a great story and wish I could visit them on the farm. I loved the settings and so wanted to reach through the book and give a good talking to his mother Joyce and so glad that the story went the way it did and it will pull at all ranges of feelings. Great writer and once again a great story with the settings and could see this on the Hallmark channel one day.
I usually LOVE Rimmer's books so I truly hate to give this book such a low rating, but it can't be helped. I really, really did not like the heroine and how she made the hero jump through hoops to win her affections after she made him wait four and a half years to meet his kids. Like, whattttt? I was just not a fan of her or this storyline really. It was a well-written book structurally but very dry. I'm not sure if I'll finish reading this trilogy when the rest of the books come out next year.
The Father of Her Sons begins the Wild Rose Sisters trilogy/series with a poignant, emotional story of two people who connected so strongly once upon a time, but due to their circumstances and mindsets at that time would only commit to a no last names, no phone numbers, no way to find each other again agreement for their one amazing week together. Each had their reasons, ones that seemed to make sense at the time even though each had second thoughts on that final morning… neither acted on them, which was a mistake that they would come to regret down the line.
Leap ahead to five years later as Easton and Payton are about to meet each other once again back where their love story began… and information that Easton has no knowledge of yet. Both thought of and tried, in their own ways, to find each other but without important information, it was not possible. Easton’s work again returns him to this small town where the woman he’s fallen for lives and the possibility of finding her once again has him on edge. Their reunion is not quite what each had envisioned but perhaps even more emotional than they thought possible. Payton is face to face with the father of her twin sons after years of trying to find him again, and Easton has found the woman he couldn’t get out of his mind or heart for those long years. It should be a wonderful reconnection… but there are complications galore.
The Father of Her Sons won my heart quite easily, mainly because of two adorable little boys, Penn and Bailey. Payton is a woman caught in her past, her childhood past, and cannot bring herself to trust Easton with her heart. Yes, she trusts him with their boys and wants them to know their dad – but with some conditions attached for their (or her) protection. I will admit there were moments when I just wanted to sit Payton down for a stern conversation about letting go of the past… but I doubt she would have listened to me. Easton is a sweetheart, but he’s moving a bit fast so in some ways I get his insistence on some level but also, he needed to slow down in so many ways. Yet, it’s obvious these two belong together, they just have to get on the same page where trust is involved, and with Payton’s history that’s not going to be an easy task for Easton.
Toss in some (well, maybe huge) family drama on one side, and a few implied complications on the other and you’ll find a very satisfying, emotional romance between two very stubborn people who while working out their love life has two adorable little ones to enjoy and bring into a new family dynamic. I loved Payton’s sisters and aunt and definitely want to learn more about their lives. I had fun here, got started on a trilogy that has been on my to-read list for far too long, and am now definitely hooked on the trilogy. If you love a complicated romance with a couple who simply fits together in spite of their hesitation, if little boys full of mischief and adventure make you smile, and if a simmering, sizzling chemistry between two people in love will always tempt you – then The Father of Her Sons is a good fit for you.
I really enjoyed this story, it was a good start to the trilogy. Payton lives on Wild Rose farm with her Aunt and Sister Josie, her other sister Alex lives away but is always in contact. They are a very close group. Payton works at the local Inns bar part time, as she helps on the farm and is writing a novel as well. At the start of the book she is on a no man time as she wants to concentrate on wrting her book. One night a handsome guy comes in and they get talking, there is chemisty but Payton is saying no. Over the coming nights they chat more, Easton is in town in business and will be around for the next week, what harm could a week long no strings, no personal details do? The week did have consequences for Payton and she finds herself preganant, she did try to find Easton but didn't. With the help of her Aunt and sisters she raises two lovely, funny and beautiful boys. One weekend 4 years later Easton is back in town and he spots Payton at her families farm stall at the market, he comes over to say Hi. With all that has happened and the fact that she has had his sons, can they make a relationship work? Will the boys accept him as their father? Will his family accept Payton and the boys with loving hearts? I loved the characters and the plotline, the way Christine Rimmer wove the feelings and situations made you care about the characters and all they were going through. The boys were wonderful, their joy was infectious. If you have not read this trilogy yet, would recommend it.
Christine wrote a second chance story it is just that the emotional feeling come out so fabulous. No promises.. No last name she kept to her rules no nothing. Payton Dahi work at in Heartwood Inn when she met this guy one night. Easton Wright had the feelings that he couldn't put out of his mind. Payton had feeling for Easton. He asked her to spend what time he was in town. He treated her as the most precious woman and he was true that after rest of time he had in Heartwood. They where very well matched a characters. They enjoyed everything they did and when it was time to leave she stuck to her No Last Name and No Phone Number or No Promises. After 4 years of looking and couldn't fine him. He was couldn't follow through with No Phone Numbers. Can Payton life with the two precious twin son's not knowing there father? Easton want to get to know the twins! Will Payton be able to tell the boys there father is there. Will Payton give Easton a second chance? #christineRimmer
I enjoyed this book. Not as much as her older book “Midsummer Madness”. This author writes string independent women struggling to embrace love. While I liked all the characters I did eventually find the FMC annoying after a while. She was a bit much claiming to be wild and impulsive but only ever showed how controlling she was from beginning to end.
This was also a secret baby romance which I love and to was nicely written. Rational characters with passion and mild intensity for each other. The main downside was the fade to black on all the s e x scenes. Hallmark needs to stop this. Smh. After that it was an easy enjoyable lite read. I do want more from this author but mostly all her books follow one family and I really don’t want to get that involved in a twenty plus book series. 🤷🏻♀️. Enjoy.
But what if you toss that feeling of rightness away, too afraid to acknowledge it? Now he's back and so is that feeling. She's still too afraid, not only for herself, but for the two little boys growing up without the father she let get away. Can she overcome her fears and find happiness for herself, the boys and their father? Plenty of friendly characters, but maybe a little too much angst dragging the story down. Other than that this book was a lovely story. Enjoy!
They had met five years ago when he had come to her town for business. She was the bartender in the hotel he stayed at. Their time together was not only out of the world but it left lasting memories for her, two in fact. He is back and he has found out that she has been raising his children. This courtship is rocked by family not liking her and her own demons of being raised without a father.
I’m not spending the rest of my life wondering where you are.
Great serial romance. Sensual but not explicit. I loved how Easton knew right away how he felt and what he wanted. Too bad Payton was so indecisive. I really like East one's brother, Weston. I hope one day she writes his story as well.
I love this book, I love when we read about the next generation. This is a story about high school friends. Ty, Sadie and Nicole have been friends forever. Ty and Nicole married young and their marriage didn’t last. Years later Ty and Sadie fall in love or where they always in love..you will not be disappointed
Loved it! I wasn't sure about starting a new series with Christine Rimmer because I was so used to reading about all the Bravos but I decided to try this 1st book in her new series, and I'm glad I did! Now I can't wait to read the other 2!
If you have read too many dark, emotional books in a row and you need something light and fluffy, this is the book for you. Not sure it’s a true representation of the real world but it is sweet and it kept my interest.
My favorite part of this book is that it was just different then other romance novels. The main characters liked each other from the minute they met but just couldn’t get past their own concerns about relationships lasting. It wasn’t that they didn’t care, they were scared. I feel that.
