I'm a fox in a wolves' den.

My assignment was simple: go undercover and report back about wolf sightings in the area.

Instead, I found myself in much deeper with the wolves of Crescent Valley than I'd ever imagined. Lone wolves are mixed up with dangerous humans who know our secret, and it could put all shifters at risk.

Making matters worse, my feelings start to grow for my alphahole boss who has the weight of a secret on his shoulders, a delicious psycho who is obsessed with me but melts my heart, and a mysterious fighter who has something to prove.

Can I protect them while protecting our kind, or will everything crumble around me?

Fox Undercover is a fox and wolf shifter romance told in multiple POVs. The main character does not choose between the men. It contains mature scenes, male/male in later books, language, and a cliffhanger.

I was drawn to this book because the idea of a fox shifter going undercover to learn what's going on in a werewolf pack had me intrigued. Wren is supposedly the best agent on her team and she's tasked with going undercover pretending to be human to see what the wolf/human dealings are in the local pack. She goes to a rather unprofessional job interview at a bar and meets Kingston who she learns is the alpha and also owns most of the town. She gets the job and is able to make her way into these VIP meetings to gather knowledge to take back to her boss.

Here she also meets Zayn who becomes obsessively in love with her. We learn that Zayn is a bit unhinged because he grew up super sheltered and abused and so Kingston has to keep a close eye on him. He declares he's in love with Wren but also suspicious of her because she doesn't smell like a human to him. He eventually works his way into Wrens good graces and they develop a bit of a relationship.

The world mainly revolves around these 3 with a couple other players that get mentioned way later in the story. It was a fast paced read for me and I read it all in one day but a few things did not make sense. First, it's a reverse harem but the main focus was only on 2 men so it's more like a polyamorous relationship to me. Second, it was hard for me to see the connection between Wren in Zayn because she constantly called him crazy and he low key scared her with his behavior at times. I also didn't really see the connection between her and Kingston outside of lustful attraction because he was so busy with work they barely ever interacted.

The intimate scenes were steamy but the chemistry just wasn't there. Sullivan was introduced and she didn't like him at all but by the end she loved him too? It didn't make sense. The story was overall lacking and the plot development was pretty weak. Overall the writing was really good it's just the execution of the story just wasn't there for me.

This book is freaking hilarious! I usually don’t really like fast-paced book but this book is an exception. Call me crazy because i like Zayn, man is abosolutely unhinged. 😂😂😂

Not too sure about the other two love interest though but any interactions with Zayn are insanely funny 😂😂

Fast paced and fun

I thoroughly enjoyed this read. I appreciate that there is a fast pace to the story where we don't have to spend too much time building up to the interesting interactions. There some mystery and suspense due to the fmc being undercover and trying to pass herself off as a human and dig for info while not being found out. There is humor and sweetness from one of the guys who is a bit socially awkward but in a kind of hot stalker way.

There is a point where one of the guys learns that the h is a shifter and I thought that scene was a little too easy and convenient for how she talked her way out of it. I wanted to see it be a bit more dramatic and suspenseful. The way it resolved didn't feel in line with the personality of the H.

Overall it was entertaining and I will definitely read the second book when it comes out.

This was a great little story, a very different take on shifters, the story is fast paced with enough detail to keep you interested, the injection of gods is interesting and i'm presuming you get to see more of later in the series, the characters are interesting although i fund Zayn is just intolerable at times and feels extremely young,he did have moments where he redeemed himself a little, hopefully this carries on in the later books,i think the topic around him could have been handled so much better, the FMC is great and i like all the other characters, the world building is great and it sets the premise for a great story, i listened to the audio book version of this and i think that may also have let it down slightly, the narrators did not do this book justice at all and if i was to read anymore of the story i wouldnt pick the audio books

Book #1 of 2 in the Wolves of Crescent Valley Duet

Whilst this was an easy and enjoyable read, it wasn’t anything notable.

MMC(s):
Zayn’s crazy and clingy shenanigans were endearing, and my favorite part of the book. Unfortunately, the other two MMCs came across as afterthoughts compared to him—they were just there.

FMC
Wren had the potential to be a strong character, but the execution wasn’t there. The author tells us at the start that Wren is one of “the best” agents in the Coalition (shifter police), but what we’re actually shown is Wren repeatedly botching up her undercover assignment.

I liked this book. I felt like the pacing was on point and the revelations weren't as painful as i was dreading. I couldn't rate it a four stars because i don't see myself rereading. This is not due to the writing, but more because I hate the undercover trope. It gives me so much anxiety when the relationships are started on lie and even though this wasn't as painful as some I've read ... I had to read ahead to see if I could handle it.
** I really liked zaines character:). It was so well done and really fun anytime we got a chapter from his pov.

This just wasn’t the book for me. Kingston was a confusing character for me. There was insta love- I mean 1 guy tells her he loves her within like 1 hour in her present. Granted Zayn had a freaking screw lose but still. What made me stop reading was after Kingston (who’s running this huge, ILLEGAL operation) catches her spying on him, finds out she’s a shifter AND was hiding in his office- so what the logical thing for him to do? Screw her in the pool of course and then threatens to spank her then screw her if he finds out she’s lying and indeed spying on her. He’s an idiot.

Ugh I’m so obsessed with all these series from this author! They are just so good! I still have the next book and then one other series to read that I know of from this world but after that I think I’ve read them all and that makes me sad!

Holy cow!!! Every time I pick up a Maya book I think to myself there is no way this could possibly be as good as the last and every time I’m wrong! I absolutely loved Wren she is the perfect mix of complete BA spy and sweet girl you want nothing more than to fix everything for. Book boyfriends are all amazing but Wren can be my first book girlfriend, she is seriously just perfect, definitely have a girl crush on her! Speaking of book boyfriends these guys omg 🥵 Kingston is the I run this show type that you just want to ruffle his feathers. Sullivan so far has been very suspicious of Wren, for good reason, but you can tell Wren is slowly starting to grow on him weather he wants her to or not. Sullivan and Zayn get off the a rocky start but it is just build up to some seriously sexy tension that I have a feeling is going to be very very hot! And finally Zayn this man is completely of his rocker you wouldn’t think someone so crazy would be hot but he is! He is that insta love no questions asked have to have you type. He is sweet and a little psycho but you know he would do anything for you no matter what! Knowing what Wren put him through was seriously heart breaking you just want to wrap him up in snuggles and keep all the bad things away from him. I have said it before but I will again this is the best book Maya has ever written, the characters are perfect, the story is exciting, and sexy times were hot! I can’t wait to see what happens next.

There are so many other reviews that talk about the plot of the story and the characters, they do it so well that I’m not gonna go into it. I’ll tell you what I liked and disliked.

The world building was good, the story was fun and unique, the characters were fairly well rounded and had depth. The relationship building, the chemistry, and the romance were pretty much garbage though.

Supposedly, FMC loves these males without ever having a positive or meaningful interaction with any of them…except for Zayn. There was no chemistry or emotional connection at all. I didn’t think the two sex scenes were hot because they felt like emotionless fucks.

Furthermore, the only male who was at all likable was Zayn. The other two were massive assholes with no redeeming qualities. FMC literally risks her life for these guys who don’t even like her. The whole concept was stupid and unbelievable.

The FMC as a super spy didn’t seem believable either. She just keeps making mistake after mistake. She doesn’t come off as well-trained or “the best” by any means. This girl failed at literally every single ‘spy-like’ action she took. Every. Single. One. It’s a bummer and I had been expecting more from her.

I don’t feel the need to read the next book in this duet. I’m just not interested enough. The storyline was fun, but the relationships ruined it for me. The overall writing was good though.

What just happened? I started reading and the next thing I knew I had devoured the whole book! I need more! 5 stars isn’t enough!

I fell so hard for Zayn and his craziness! He is my new favorite character! I love him so much. He is absolutely adorable with his best friend/girlfriend statuses, his possessive, and his straight up stalker status.

Wren is undercover working for the coalition. She just wants to protect all the shifters. She goes to work at The Guillotine, where she meets the owner Kingston, his personal assistant Zayn, and fighter Sullivan. What she learns is she doesn’t have a life outside of work, and she hates lying. She definitely and enigma and there’s more to her than meets the eye.

Kingston, oh my sweet Kingston, he’s literally between a rock and hard place. He’s dark and mysterious. Then there’s Sullivan, who has a guilt ridden background and I can’t wait to find out more about his character!

Such a great book, and can’t wait to see how Wren gets out of the mess she’s in. The guys definitely better learn to work together a little more. I need book 2 ASAP!

So good!! I highly recommend!! I read Maya Nicole's Arbor Falls series and loved it, so I thought I'd give Fox Undercover a read. Spinoffs can be hit or miss with me, but I loved it! *Separate story, same world, you don’t need to read it to read this series. * I loved the characters, their different personalities, and the different ways in which they each see the world. I'm excited to see how these characters grow, and how their relationships change as the truth comes to light. We follow the FMC Wren, on an emotional rollercoaster and get to see how her experiences effect, and change her. For the first time she realizes that maybe being married to the job isn’t all she thought it was. But at the same time, she’s undercover so she can’t form relationships, right?

There were some yummy steamy scenes 🔥. There's mystery and intrigue, that kept me sucked in until the very end. There’s angst that you can feel while reading it. There are multiple POV’s which I always love. Especially so we can understand what's going through the guy's heads *especially Zayn’s*. I had a lot of fun reading this, I got so sucked in that I wasn't even aware how close to the end I was until it was over... and all I wanted was more. That cliffhanger left me slightly heartbroken, wishing the next book was out already! If you are looking for a fun PRN/shifter book this is a definite read. ❤🐺🦊

Fox Undercover is book 1 of the Wolves of Crescent Valley series, interrelated to the previous two series.

This book is a fast burn, fast paced mystery! We meet Wren, who works for the shifter coalition, who monitors and protects the sanctity of the secrecy of shifters. When Wren takes on this new assignment, she’s tasked with learning everything she can about the local shifter scene. She doesn’t expect to find two, maybe three men who are so different, and yet all start to worm their way into her heart. She’s used to being all alone, and now, they start to try and connect with her, she’s scared, and hurt. Complications come up as she attempts to figure out how to run, and she’s forced back into this crazy scenario, and danger spikes.

Between secrets being revealed, and people being kidnapped, I’m already ready for book two!

Story 📖: 5/5 couldn’t put it down!
Heat 🔥: 4.5/5 fast burn. Pretty steamy, for a first book!

Omg Fox Undercover was SO GOOD I think I may have set a record with how fast I read this!! Wren is an undercover fox shifter for the coalition who gets sent to find out if someone is exposing shifters to humans. What she finds is so much more! Wren is immediately taken by Kingston but he’s her boss and she’s there on a mission so she tries not to cross those lines. Zayn is Kingston’s best friend and probably one of the best characters I have read in a very long time! I am absolutely IN LOVE with him!! Every scene with Zayn in it made me smile or laugh, he is the best thing about this book, hands down. I loved Wren and her struggles about who she is and what she wants her herself really made her relatable. I also am so happy with the decisions she made at the end of the book but I’m concerned for her because of how the book left off. This is a must read!! I do recommend reading Maya’s Arbor Falls series first because you’ll go into this series with a lot of info on this world.

269 pages, which is already less than I usually like to read (my preference is at least 300 pages) but somehow it took me less than 3 hours to finish the book. And I don't consider myself a fast reader.
I liked the story, but the relationship between the FMC and the others were a bit lacking. With Zayn it was good he's a bit insane so it kinda makes sense for him to say he loves her the day after they met. Sullivan was introduced a bit later in the book so she barely had a conversation with him. It was mostly with Kingston that annoyed me. There was barely any development between them, they don't really get to know eachother but Kingston still says he has feelings for her. Makes no sense. I would have liked it if a bit more pages were spent with them getting to know eachother.

Oh and for the people who want to read the series this book does not have MM but I feel like there were a few hints that there might be MM in the next book.

Loved it!

Wren works for the coalition and goes undercover as a human to investigate some lone wolves. She gets a job at the bar one of them owns. Kingston is the grumpy and somewhat mysterious business owner. His assistant Zayn is wacky, sweet, obsessive and kind of a stalker. He is such a funny and lovable character with no filter. He has a childlike excitement to him and it really shines through in the audio version. I found myself smiling and laughing at his enthusiasm, and he really stole the show for me. Last but not least, Sullivan is one of Kingston’s underground fighters and is instantly suspicious of Wren and why she’s there.

Wren starts to realize she’s married to her job and wants more out of life than that. She also starts to catch feelings and doesn’t want to bring these men down. We get more secrets, lies and mafia-type business dealings, along with super hot steam! I can’t wait to start the next one!

Nothing outstanding but a nice, quick and easy read.

Parts of this book are downright hilarious, Zayn is like a child who has been allowed his first run out to the sweet shop alone.

The 3 MC’s all are lone wolves who have had difficult backgrounds/current lives that mean that some humans know of wolves existence. This a big no no and Wren is sent in undercover by the shifter version of the FBI to see why there have been sightings of wolves who live in a highly human populated area.

All of their stories are heartbreaking but I feel for Wren and Zayn the most, I’m hoping everyone is okay in the end.

Not sure how I feel about the addition of a God in the mix? It is very strange to add gods into shifters and I’m yet to see how he will play out in all of this.

This is a fast paced book, the smut is decent and I can only imagine it will get better once the author adds the MM to the next book.

Brilliant start to a new series! 😄
Wren is a firecracker of an FMC whose struggling with her work/life balance wanting to get out but feels the pressure of duty, family and expectations. Which I’m pretty sure the majority of us can relate too 😳 Her job puts her into some difficult situations which she wants out of but she cannot see a way forward.
There’s plenty of angst from the storyline throughout this book that just draws you - and you just have to keep reading to find out how it pans out!
Zayn is crazy in love already, like obsessive crazy, but you can’t help but giggle and love him 😍
Kingston is a silent alpha type so far, but I feel there’s more going to develop there!
And then there’s the suspicious Sullivan - he’s a wild card right now! Oh boy is the steam 🔥🔥🔥
That cliffhanger though 😫😫 need the next one now!

This story is pretty good. The author did a good job writing this many characters and giving them each a unique perspective of everything. There isn't much of Sullivan, he right now is FAR from a love interest. Kingston is...well gruff and cold. Yes, he says he fell for her but really did look like he had. Mostly we get to see Zayn. Zayn is unstable. He doesn't understand how to behave. He knows what is normal just can't seem to get there. (He is really adorable.) The female character, Wren, seems to be really good at her job, once again we don't see much of that. She messes everything up and can't seem to make the right moves. The ending is a cliffhanger (which is going to drive me nuts).

This was a very different book for me. Lots grittier than I'm use to in mainstream romance. Still it was fun if a bit quick. I look forward to the next book.

I know I probably keep saying this over and over with Mayas books, but MAN she keeps doing an amazing job creating characters and continuing building this world with the past few series.
At first, I honestly wasn’t sure how I’d like this book, just with the way Kingston was described 😂🤦🏼‍♀️. I can say that I’ve never disliked a main character from the start like I did him. But I got over the dislike fairly quickly. I might even say he’s my favorite now.
I can relate to wren in the fact that she’s a workaholic and so am I. I understand her pain and her struggle with finding a balance between work and fun.
This book has a lot of twists and turns, the emotional kind, and I absolutely love it. I can’t wait to see how wren and her men come out of this!

Really interesting! I liked the story line. It was fast paced book. Enjoyed the suspense and angst of the book. It was well written and I liked the characters and their personalities. Wren was an interesting FMC. She was intelligent, sassy, and mischievous just like her fox. I liked and understand why she did the things that she did towards the end of the book. Trying to right the wrongs and help. But it ended up creating a bigger mess unfortunately due to that cliffhanger!! Marcos the bad guys and not a wolf shifter better be dead, but I don’t believe so which I find unfortunate and Zayn should have run him over to be safe. But what happened to Wren!!? Eeeek!? Who took her!?

I loved the difference in the Harem! Kingston (leader/alpha, broody), Sullivan (very difficult character and broody, underground fighter), and Zayn (crazy, psycho, obsessed with wren, slight mentally scared)

Their are multiple POVs.

Sexiness: 4 out 5
Might be some MM between Sully and Zayn in the next book.

I am looking forward to book 2!

This review is of my own opinion.

I read the Arbor Falls series before I read this book and it made me super excited to see what would happen with Wren when she was sent to spy (Disclaimer: you do not have to read Arbor Falls before reading Crescent Valley). I was not sure exactly how I would feel about Wren since she is working with the coalition, but I have to say that she is really likeable and a great FMC. I also really like both of the guys so far, again I did not think that I would as they seemed sketchy at first, but once again I love both Kingston and Zayne... especially Zayne. I am super excited to see what comes from that insane ending.

2½⭐ strictly for Zayn

I'm conflicted on this book, on one hand it was sorta enjoyable but then on the other there was definitely a few TSTL moments by the MFC. Wren was just meh in my opinion. As far as the guys go: Kingston was okay, Sullivan felt like an after thought, but Zayn was the best MMC & character period. Zayn was a beautiful unhinged possessive stalker, best kinda MMC in my opinion. Its just too bad he couldn't carry the whole story. Zayne aside, the insta-love with characters was even a little too insta for me, especially when they weren't fated mates. I'm going to try book 2 strictly cause I fell for Zayn.

I am going to try to do this without spoilers!! I love this story so much!! Maya has done it again ladies and gents!! What’s not to love about Wren!! I personally relate to her struggles to find a work life balance. The MCs in this series are some of my favourites so far!! Zayn is the greatest and I instantly fell in love with his brand of crazy!! Believe me you will not be able to put this book down, it’s a page turner right to the end. We know how Maya likes to throw you off the cliff you won’t be disappointed!! Awesome beginning to this series so far.

An exciting new story from Maya Nicole!

Wren is a spunky character who starts a new undercover assignment she thought would be easy. Turns out it’s anything but what it seems. I loved her personality and the sassy badass that she is.

That story is told in multiple POV from Wren and her guys. Since Wren was introduced in The Arbor Falls series, her history is a bit more clear, but the guys are so confusing and I’m dying to know more about their pasts.

Well written with lots of laughs, great characters and world building, it was a great read. Can’t wait for book 2!

The premise is fun - fox shifter Wren goes undercover in a bar owned by a wolf to see if he is exposing their shifter secret to humans. She meets Zayn who falls obsessively in love with her and is a bit of a stalker but we get his back story and understand him a bit more and really if it wasn't for his stalker habits, Wren might have really gotten hurt. It was a fast moving story but there were quite a bit of character development issues and holes but not enough for me to not push through to the next book.

Fox Undercover was incredible!

Wren, a fox shifter, works undercover to gather intel on the wolves of Crescent Valley, only things don’t go the way she planned.

I loved Wren’s character! She is sexy, sassy and can kick some serious butt.
Kingston sounds yummy and Zayn was a bit clingy but he did grow on me towards the end.

Fox Undercover is an exciting book with mystery, suspense and lots of sexy shifters. I devoured this book in one day and recommend reading it!

Addicting! That's what this book was. OMG I could not put this book down. Just when you thought you might know what direction the story was going to go it took a completely different turn. I absolutely loved it. That ending is just wow. Definitely can't wait for the next book. It left you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Loved how well the characters were portrayed and the chemistry was amazing. Highly recommend this book! A definite must read!!!
