A pleasant evening dinner boat ride on the Seine is destroyed by a shocking murder—and a kidnapping. This time, there is no question who the perpetrator is. Even his master plan is revealed in stunning clarity to anybody paying attention—which Claire Baskerville certainly is. But for Claire—expat American and private investigator living in Paris—and her daughter, that knowledge may come too late. As Claire desperately searches for her daughter in a Paris whose borders have been briefly sealed due to a threatening viral pandemic, she knows the clock is ticking. The lockdown is only meant to give the hospitals a head start and protect the rest of the country. Will she find Catherine before the lockdown lifts? And her daughter is lost forever into the endless, mysterious mist of the Middle East—where Claire has no doubt her only child is bound for. The sixth and latest installment in the An American in Paris Mystery Series will take Claire on a harrowing and very personal sojourn. This book is a clean read with no graphic violence, sex or strong language. cozy travel mystery, women amateur sleuth, cozy animal (dog)

Reunited with her previously estranged daughter, Claire Baskerville is certain that nothing will dim her happiness. But when Catherine and her husband Todd fail to return from a romantic dinner cruise, Claire's investigative instincts kick in. The city of Paris, besieged by a viral pandemic, is under curfew and lockdown, drastically limiting Claire's ability to search for her missing loved ones. And threats from Claire's father result in further trauma. With little time left, Claire frantically scours the city for any trace of her daughter.

Deadly Faux Pas was a nail-biter for me. I was heavily invested in the hunt for Catherine. Claire is a fantastic role model, and her dedication to her daughter is so very lovely. You can't help but admire a main character who lays everything on the line for her child.

Not quite a thriller, definitely not a cosy, the American in Paris series lies in its own brilliant territory. I highly recommend this series in general, and this mystery in particular. This series is best read in order.

I really love this series and I hesitated on the # of stars. I just really had trouble with the "believability" of Claire's actions in this one. I've been reading the series "non-stop" so maybe I just need a little break?? I'm definitely not giving up on Claire - and ALL the great characters that hang out with her . . . including Robbie and Izzy. I have to say the pace at which these stories moves through the pages makes an exciting read. I always look forward to picking the book up . . . Hopefully, the disappointment I felt in this one, is a "one off" . . . and maybe I am the "one off" :D

Well, more of a soap opera focused on her life, people's feelings, lunch plans and some murder mystery stuff when there is time. Not at all what I generally like, which is digging into the mystery and solving it. On top of that, I skipped maybe 4 of her books and spent a fair amount of time hashing through her father and other things. So, facts missing, on the other hand, with all the feelings discussion, I don't think I missed much, most not important.
Decently put together, didn't feel all that standalone, but an interesting read anyway.

Great Reaf

The stories get better and better. Each installment is better than expected. I am definitely invested in the stories of Claire, Robbie, Genevieve, to name a few.

The characters are so well-developed you can’t help but feel as if you personally know them all.

There was enough suspense to keep me guessing and interested enough to read the book in one sitting.

Can’t wait yo see what new adventures fall on Claire’s lap!

This book was rather

Difficult to follow if you hadn’t read the prior books in the series. Subject matter wasn’t that interesting. After a while it became a really boring book. Very little action. Left with no desire to read the next book. Even the possibility of Claire and Jean-Marc reuniting is not enough incentive to continue the series.

A intriguing mystery with murder and kidnapping

Claire an expat in Paris is anxiously awaiting a visit from her daughter and family. All does not go as hoped—a murder and kidnapping, certainly turns the tides on what was hoped to be a great family reunion

Never a Dull Moment

Susan has led us on a nail-biting chase through the streets of Paris again with Claire and her family and friends. As usual, the final twist is totally unsuspected. I can’t wait for her next book.

I am a big fan of all of her series and this one involves an ex pat living in Paris and solving crimes as a private investigator. The story of this particular one deals with Claire’s son-in-law being murdered and her daughter being kidnapped. Really enjoyed it

I’ve read every book in this series and I think this one was the best. I enjoy the recurring characters and the “family” Claire has built in Paris. I had trouble putting this one down.
I’m looking forward to the next installment.

A Non-Stop Thriller

The best so far in this series about expat Claire Baskerville and her insanely evil father. This time we learn more about her daughter Catherine, and find she, too, is built of tough stuff. And there is also hope for something new with Jean-Marc. Wow!

Death and Kidnapping

This was an entertaining read, even though it contained such dire circumstances. It's up to Clair to find her daughter because the police only look at the girl as a suspect.

I like the series, but I don’t like how Claire refers to herself as an old lady all the time! I am older, but I am not a old lady!
And how is she responsible for Jean Marc’s ex wife’s and her father’s actions? Why do they blame her?
Otherwise it’s a fun series
