But everything isn’t rainbows and lucky charms with my four Irish treasures. Warwick may have helped me break the curse trapping Doran as the stone gargoyle, but the guys don’t trust the leprechaun. At all.
Worse, demons are pouring into our world unchecked despite the four treasures being reunited. I am their treasurekeeper, the conduit that allows their magic to flow, but there are disturbing holes in my memory.
Someone doesn’t want me to remember…
And these whiskey-drinking, tattoo-loving, motorcycle-riding badasses are quick to leap to the conclusion that I’ve been lepre-conned.
Although I'm glad that our heroine got to confront her ex husband, it didn't feel like a lot happened in this novel. I felt like we spent a lot of time almost in an info dump to catch is up. Still enjoyable and will finish the series when the next one comes out.
As with all of Joely's books, another fantastic read! I love the melding of myth and fantasy as well as real life. As someone who is divorced from a narcissist, I can tell you it feels exactly like being married to a changeling. Love the character development and how strong and in her own power Riann becomes at the end!
Not as good as the first but lots of info dumping. Insta love. FMC was a debby downer about herself. Wanted to fight in a war when she has no idea how to fight or hold a weapon. Put herself in danger because she wanted to 'do something'. Meh.
This is book two in “Her Irish Treasures” by Burkhart. We left book one with Riann on the bar counter, surrounded by Warwick, Doran, Aidaen, Keane, Ivarr. We saw how their relationship may work out. While moving onto the next step in their journey. This book gave us a deeper look into each character, and their thinking. I liked watching everyone's relationships grow closer together, with every twist and turn of the book. I did feel like there was some detail missing from the story. And that some things could have been described more, adding to the story. This is an issue I noticed in the first book as well, and am starting to think it may just be the author's writing style. Which is good, I just needed more. We got a closer look at Riann’s ex husband Johnathan. Which to be honest kinda made me sick. Jonathan was discovered to be a changeling in book one. And would make Riann suffer and torment her. Only to take away the memories and feed off of them himself. Basically he used her pain and torment like an all you can eat buffet. Even after he traps Riann. We see how evil and mean he is. To the point he admits what he did to Warwick. This was one of the best scenes in the book. And there is a lot more to this, so it is not spoiled! In book two each character starts acting more like a person, and develops better actions and back stories. This has proven to be a series that continues to grow and build in all ways.
** Cliffhanger-ish Warning! ** Holy Shillelagh! I love this book. This is the second installment in this series, so it's best to read these books in sequence. There's still plenty of fast-paced action, steamy scenes, and wonderful Irish mythos worked into the story. I think that Riann and the Treasures make a fantastic team, but Warwick adds a special touch to this magical story.
I especially enjoyed the visit to Faerie. Warwick's home is fascinating, and I want my own leprechaun to love.
Jonathan the channeling is so disgusting. I think the part of his and Riann's story will haunt me. Having said that, I love how Riann gets her revenge at the end.
I liked this more than book 1 because the relationships started to feel more real. The MC started behaving like a real person suddenly realizing she had thrown herself all in with 5 men she knew nothing about. We also started to get more of the fae aspects of the story instead of just the adventure/quest parts. Many things that felt flat and underdeveloped in book 1 started coming together, and it was revealed the author had a reason for writing book 1 the way she did. I appreciate a well-planned series, but it was a risky move since book 1 almost didn't have enough going for it to make me read Book 2.
This review is for the whole trilogy and contains a spoiler.
Low 3-stars (though I only rated the compilation I actually read.)
Yawn. That's my final verdict on this series. The writing is perfectly competent, and I liked the characters well enough, even if their character archetypes are pretty ham-handed. But there isn't anything special here. Well, except for the heroine, who is just the specialist Special to ever special. As the books went on and more of her mystery is revealed, she progressively became more and more of a Mary Sue. By the end, she was made out to be so perfect and so worshiped that I felt like I should dislike her on principle, just to balance the scales.
But here's my biggest complaint (after just boredom, by the end). The author denies the reader the most important parts of the plot. The book starts with the heroine waking up with a gargoyle statue in her bed. By chapter two, she's already well into the mania caused by the statue talking to her. The reader is left out of all this tension building and just told this has been going on for days. Even all the loves are instant (all of them), so you don't see any build-up there either.
Similarly (and much, much worse), the book ends the same way. She does the big important thing that the whole book has been building up to, passing out in the process (dies, really, and comes back, but same difference). When she wakes up, she asks if they won and is told that she did succeed and everyone lives happily ever after.
560 pages trying to best the villain (who was super obvious, btw), and the author chose not to show his defeat or the Treaures' endings. Honestly, I'm not even sure if the villain was killed or if the heroine merely returned magic to the worlds. Like, I'm legitimately not even sure what winning constitutes in this situation BECAUSE I WAS NOT SHOWN and barely told. To say it was anticlimactic is a complete understatement.
All in all, if you like a Mary Sue this is a good series for you. But I found it underwhelming, on the whole.
Book 2 in this RH Irish series was a good improvement to book 1. I connected more with the guys and was getting sucked into the plot with all the more conflicts and creatures and worlds in this one. I love our FMC’s relationship with her bestie. I love she can always turn to her and Viv will help her but will also keep a level head and want the plan before everyone is thrust into danger. I love her budding romance with Hammer too, so adorable!
We get more steam in book 2, more connections made and finally letting go of the past (or at least somewhat). I like that Rhiannon (hopefully I am spelling that right, I am listening so I am just guessing at this point haha) like the aggressive and wild sexy times with some of her guys, but also loves the more intimate and passionate. I enjoyed seeing her powers grow and I actually liked the twists when it came to the baddie and his plotting. I was kinda confused at the end (I loved the mind games haha) but the rest worked well and I was smiling with how the author pulled it off haha. I am intrigued after the jaw dropping reveal at the end, I hope book 3 is coming to audio, or I can pick it up and read the finale. I would give this one a 3.75-4 stars and rounding up because this one we got more out of it. It was longer, more intricacies allowed, more connections for the readers to grab hold of, etc. I think for me I like this plot more in this series. Don’t get me wrong the steam is good, but I am more interested in what is going to happen and how they all will get their HEAs.
Narration was good, again I wish we had duet narration but this narrator can handle some of the guys accents on her own. I thought again she fumbled a bit with some accent consistencies (esp our gargoyle) but overall a solid 4 stars. I did appreciate the performances in the beginning with the FMC in the other world and then throughout with our Leprechaun giving clues but not giving anything away so she could figure it out. And her coming into her powers, loved the art aspect and how the narrator did the painting scene at the end. So good!
Better than the first book. I think the writing matured a little bit. The narrator was the same as the first and still not my favorite, but she did alright. Weird ending, kinda skipped some of the "oh thank goodness everything is alright now-time to fuck" scene that I was expecting and jumped right to the "holy shit, here is a new revelation to get you hooked and bring you back to the next book," which was also a little abrupt. I hear a lot of writing advice that's basically 'show, don't tell.' There are plenty of times where telling is appropriate, especially in a first person narrative though, and great authors strike a balance. This one hasn't yet, she zigs when she should zag and she tells way too much during the action scenes, and skips merrily past the character development after-action sequences. I don't hate it. The premise is still interesting and the sex is still good, but hopefully her writing continues to improve.
It’s rare that I read a story for the actual story line, but this series is that type of book. The author writes in a way that you can easily picture everything happening inside your head. They give just enough detail to fill in the blanks from book one and give you even more breadcrumbs for the next book.
In this book, you get relationship building mostly, sprinkled with folk lore and tiny hints at what the next book will be about. There isn’t a lot of spice, but again I read this book for the story line, and what you do get is good; Warwick’s scene is my favorite in this book.
The author knows how to write an ending. You got a surprise, that I didn’t see coming, but the author didn’t leave a gaping cliff hanger. I just hope I don’t have to wait a year for the next book.
Fantasy book that is full of action, fighting and sex!
This is the second book in this series, I recommend that you read the first book before this book because this is a continuation of the first book. With creatures that you normally don't see in fantasy genre, you find five men that worship one woman. But will the four treasures be willing to trust a Leprechaun? Or will their distrust put Riann, the woman the love, in more trouble?
This book is a 5 out of 5 stars because it is not only well written but has almost everything that you could want. The sex scenes are explicit and hot, the fighting scenes are intense, the bad guy makes you want to kick his ass, and the lead female is full of kick ass attitude! I put this book at a chili pepper on the pepper scale, with multiple scenes with multiple people (or creatures) involved and with explicit detail this book will get you all hot and bothered!
This is a book I recommend if you like fantasy, reverse harem and action then this a story that you should checkout!
I hope this helps you find your next Tantalizing Tome!
Why has it taken me this long to pick up this series!?!?
Oh another story about the lucky leprechauns, NO WAY! Pick up the first in the series and you'll see how Joely takes a common trope and turns it on its head and spins it around into something so FUN and captivating. Once you start into the story you will not want to put it down.
Leprechauned takes us further into the mystery around our FMC's missing memories and some of the backstory for our guys. We get to ride along as she discovers that she can accept herself as she for herself and she draws strength to overcome her own fears/insecurities. The development within the harem is juicy (with plenty of spice).
Onward to Evil Eyed to beat up the bad guy!!! Can't wait!
Action. Danger. Love. Sexy scenes. Heartfelt moments. Intimacy. And the best reveal at the end. What a great plot twist! Okay I'm getting ahead of myself. The story continues from book one (even though it had been awhile) the storyline refreshes with the amazing characters and their situation. We encounter the dreaded ex-husband and find out a little blurb about him. We get more one on one history on some of the guys that builds the drama of this story. What a ride and I cannot wait to see where our Riann takes her five guys to save the world from darkness and the Evil Eye.
Dropped a star because I took a break in the middle and couldn't remember literally anything that happened without having to reread a bit. So basically I forgot because the characters and plot in this one weren't as well defined or quite as well written as the ones in other Joely Sue Burkhart worlds. Still mostly well written and interesting enough to continue with the series. I look forward to reading the next one, as this one ended on a bit of a cliffhanger.
The secrets keep coming out in this second book. Riann has to face her ex and find a way to get him out of her life for good. Aidan has so many complicated layers, and we get to see them peeled back farther, exposing how much he cares for their treasure. Doran is the strong rock, Keane is the fun-loving spark, Ivarr is the guiding light, and Warwick is the quick witted fae. One more foe to go, Evil Eye.
The pacing in this one wasnt as good, and some of the conclusions and actions felt off, i liked some of the character interactions and that warwick never ended up being bad, but also dont like the dominant role the author had him end up taking because he was my favorite because he was nice and kind and always helped riann, but oh well. Oberall, not as good as the first
Being a patreon allowed me sneak peeks at the first part of the book and let me tell you how excited I was for this! After reading it I can tell you it was worth the wait. The last two chapters were golden! Loved it. Thank you Joely for the twists and turns and hotness in this book!
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Wow there is nothing much better than Irish men and mythology coming together. It so great to see the continuing development of Riann and her men. Everything was flowing so well and the story kept going at a great pace, interesting with lots of information and surprises that just enhanced the story. Can't wait for the next one.
There is so much going on in this book. Definitely need to read the first one so you're not lost. The FMC finally starts getting answers. She is finally understanding the fairy world. She's a now understands why her ex-husband was the way he was. Basically she's coming into her powers. Lol. With some serious twist, you wouldn't see coming.
After devouring the authors vampire queen series I expected a similar heroine but instead I found myself getting frustrated with the weepy disillusioned protagonist. I kept getting frustrated with her putting herself down in appearance and skills. I was tempted to dnf at 88% but forged on to finish the book and was pleased with the pivot.
Okay so sometimes it just feels so exhausting. Is that normal? I'm a very simple girl and don't like to need to think about some things very deeply. With this one I need to think a whole lot.
It has lots of sexy times with the treasures. I liked it, but I am really okay with finishing it already..
I love everything written by Joley... And this story just like all for others sucks you right in! I absolutely cannot wait for the last one in this series, and always hope for a little extra!
This was great. I loved that we got to read this second book of the series finally. I love how Jonathan finally got what was coming. And that ending…what a hook. I can’t wait for book three.
I loved I was so looking forward to this book after the first one. The story line and flow of this book is perfect. Even amount of naughty and nice with some crazy.. I loved it
Great fun read. Not too long. Lots of spice and smexy scenes. Paranormal RH romance with a developing FMC. Small cliffhanger at the end but not bad enough to make you curse and cry that you have to wait for book 3.
I love watching riann grow into her own strength. I'm glad one of her big bads was dealt with and thank you to the author for the classy handling of her trauma. Hurry up book 3 because I need to know how this ends!!
Though it was a bit of a slow start, the plot really thickens and you get into the heart of the story. The MC gets to face her ex husband in a few trials and wins. I’m excited for the next and final book in this story.
This book is even better than the first funnier although some of the fae lore was a bit overwhelming though I know important for the finale can’t wait to read it in a few days
I love anything from Joely Sue! As another reviewer stated, I did appreciate that this book made the FMC more relatable in that she realized she just went all in with our harem. I also was so stoked to read Riann get even with her ex!!
I love irish myths, so in this book we see more of this. More in depth development of Rian and the guys and their relationship. More magic when we get to see farie, this book is just MORE then the first one.
