'Mistakes Are How I Learn' is a story about a girl called Tamara. She has big dreams and associates messing up as a failure. She gets infuriated on losing but her parents comfort her that 'mistakes are how we learn'. Tamara takes part in a gymnastics competition. However, to her dismay, she doesn't get selected. Nonetheless, she doesn't get disheartened and decides to practice daily to get ready for the next year. She scored a C grade on an exam. Instead of giving up, she sets her goals and lets her growth mindset guide her. After much hard work, Tamara scores a B Grade and makes herself proud. Tamara continues to dream big and pushes herself harder. She finds strength within and the motivation to challenge obstacles. Tamara comes out with flying colors with her determination to win.
PS. Mistakes Are How I Learn is a helpful read for children and adults to not give up on dreams. When facing a huge hurdle, one needs to strengthen one's determination and keep pushing ahead to reach one's goal. When nothing works out, one needs to tap into inner strength and keep persevering to succeed in any challenge. Making a list of goals and making steady efforts like Tamara would be a great enabler in one's victory.
Mistakes Are How I Learn is about a little girl named Tamara who would get so angry at making mistakes and messing up. She started to change her mindset and learned to not say "I can't do this". When she did not make the gymnastics team, she had a positive mindset and was going to keep working to join the team next year. I think this is a great book for my classroom library. Tamara practiced a "growth mindset". The book shows children that is normal and alright to mistakes and can demonstrate to children how to keep pushing forward to achieve your goals.
Books are important reading that encourages self-esteem in youngsters. This book will be welcome reading after students reach the rigors of school. Research indicates that children start school full of hopes and dreams. However, somewhere in the first two years, the self-esteem of children plummets. I was glad to see that Tamara's story aims at that important group of children who can feel defeated by either school or their peers.
I teach first grade and have been trying to help the kids understand no one needs to be perfect. I love this short story to help show this lesson. I love having a book help teach the lesson want then broaden out from there! Great book.
I am a 10 year old girl and my mom read this to me. I also read it again. It really reminds me of myself and help me remember if I don’t get it right the first time, I can do it again.
This book teaches children how mistakes can help us improve. It emphasizes that it's okay to feel upset, but we must keep moving forward and try harder next time. Additionally, it's a great rhyming book, making it enjoyable to read. This book is suitable for children ages 5 to 8.
Great book. Combines wonderful advice along with rhymes. The pictures are fun and accessible. My girls enjoyed this and i think learned the lesson of growth mindset .
Good encouragement for kids, upbeat while showing real struggles and “failures” and examples of how to overcome them this is a great library/digital copy.
Mistakes are a way of learning valuable lessons. It is good to see Tamara set attainable goals to accomplish. Her hard work is contagious and encouraging for kids to emulate. A growth mindset is key!
Loved this children's early learning book, which definitely teaches perseverance, and the desire to keep trying and keep pushing forward. Tamara's success lies within her ability to and belief that she can do something bigger and better, and she succeeds.
As I read it, I thought of 'The Little Engine That Could', and how it affected me in my early childhood. Keep believing, keep pushing, keep striving, and then take joy when one accomplishes something. Well-done, Kiara Wilson!
I reread this again in October 2022 and was impressed once again with an easy-to-read story about learning from mistakes. I like this book very much.
