I have one rule: Never mix business with pleasure. I was never much good at following rules.
Alright, so my new partner isn’t the worst. It doesn’t hurt that Logan is big, tall, and smokin’ hot. I started out hating him, but this human hunk is starting to grow on me…when we’re not fighting like cats and dogs. Even our co-worker thinks there’s something going on between us. Is there something between us? Humans like him and faeries like me don’t usually click, but we’re on a case in Arizona and things are getting pretty freakin’ hot. I’m so tempted to break the rules on dating people at work, but there’s a catch —
I’m under review.
Well…that’s not completely true. The entire Occult Crimes Division is under review, as in me, my partner, my boss, Jake from IT…everybody. Evidently, hunting ghosts is kind of expensive, and now the accountants are asking questions. If Logan and I can’t prove to these hard-asses how vital our work is to the FBI, the OCD will cease to exist.
No pressure or anything. I just have to save my entire department from impending doom.
The Faerie Files is purrr-fect for readers who enjoy enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, or forbidden romance. And cats. If you're not a cat person, you WILL be after reading this series! Ideal for fans of Annette Marie, McKenzie Hunter, Deborah Wilde, Helen Harper, and Shannon Mayer.

I was super excited to read Catnip & Curses. I had enjoyed Wiretaps & Whiskers and couldn’t wait to start reading this book. I wasn’t disappointed. Catnip & Curses was a fantastic book to read.
Catnip & Curses is the second book in The Fae Files series. You cannot read this book as a standalone. You need to read Wiretaps & Whiskers to understand Logan and Elena’s relationship and how their cases go. There are many references to the first book, particularly in the first half of the book.
Catnip & Curses picks up 8-9 months after the conclusion of Wiretaps & Whiskers. Logan has fully acclimated to being an OCD agent and a first-time cat dad. Elena hasn’t changed from book one, and she is fighting a growing attraction to Logan. Things change when they get called into their boss’s office, though. They find out that they are going to Arizona to investigate a poltergeist, they are being audited, and the agents in charge of the audit are accompanying them. Can Elena and Logan convenience the agents in charge that the OCD is needed? Will Elena and Logan hook up? Will Lafayette ever get his birds logged on the app? And why does Logan have such weird dreams? The answers to all of those questions are answered in the book!!
I loved Elena even more in Catnip & Curses. She was still a hot mess, and she was still very passionate about her work. So, I didn’t blame her for her “strong” reaction to the auditors. I would have had the same response. Her hotheadedness was also in full force. I laughed at some of the things she said to Logan, the Sherriff, and the auditors. Her character didn’t exactly grow during this book, but I was OK with it.
Logan, on the other hand, experienced tremendous character growth during the book. Heck, he had grown since book 1!! I won’t ruin it, but there is a neat twist in his storyline that I didn’t see coming. I should have seen it coming, especially when Elena mentioned something about his smell, but I didn’t. I also liked how devoted he was to his father and Layfayette.
There is sex in Catnip & Curses and man, was it freaking hot. I did an internal cheer when Logan and Elena got together. It was a whole book coming, and that sex scene exploded. I did get a giggle when Elena saw the size of Logan’s package. Her reaction was the same as mine.
The storyline with the poltergeist was sad. The man behind the poltergeist wasn’t very good, but he didn’t deserve what happened to him. I would have been pissed, too, if I was tied to one place and could only watch as time went on. So, I didn’t blame him for lashing out. I thought the end of this storyline was sad with what Elena said to him and what the medium did for him.
It did annoy me that the two auditors were almost rabidly nonbelievers. It got to the point where Agent Johnson was trying to pin everything the poltergeist did on fellow officers. So, I didn’t feel bad when the poltergeist messed with him.
The storyline with Logan and his dreams was interesting. I wasn’t expecting it to go in the direction it did. Of course, things made sense once Elena and Logan sat down and discussed it (after the big reveal). I am curious to see where this storyline is going to lead in upcoming books.
The end of Catnip & Curses was interesting. I liked how the author wrapped up some of the storylines (like the poltergeist) but left others open (Logan and his dreams). I can’t wait to see where book 3 takes me!!
I would recommend Catnip & Curses for anyone of the age of 21. There is language. There is mild violence. There are somewhat graphic sexual situations.
Lafayette Gets Catnip; The OCD Gets Audited, and Elena and Logan Go On a Real Date
This lively, fun second book in Emigh Cannaday’s Faerie Files series opens with the FBI’s Occult Division getting audited. Logan and Elena have no choice but to agree to being shadowed by two bureaucratic agents whose agenda is tightening the FBI budget by trimming the dead weight. As the OCD has the unfortunate habit of getting rental cars blown up, and Elena herself requires a gold-plated handgun due to iron” allergy” it seems to the pair of bean-counters (who—of course—are non-believers when it comes to the occult) that they’ll have no trouble eliminating the whole division. Yeah. That’s before Chief Harris sends the agents to Mariposa, AZ, where the local police station has an unruly poltergeist. Anyone who has read the first book in the series knows that magic, in all its forms, good and bad, is real. But for the two auditor agents, their world view is about to change, just as Logan’s changed in Book #1 of the series. For the auditors, it’ll be like learning to swim be being pushed into the deep end. Readers follow along this journey with amusement and delight, but the novel changes tone when Logan begins having suspiciously lucid, detailed dreams. Elena wants to dismiss them, especially when their impact begins to get in the way of the romantic relationship blooming between her and her partner. These dreams are the precursor to something big that can’t or won’t be dismissed. The dreams are a Big Deal. So, in the middle of all this mayhem—nineteenth-century poltergeist, freaked-out auditors, unexplainable dreams, and sexual tension—Elena buys catnip treats for Logan’s talking cat. I recommend these novels highly. They are entertaining, escapist, sassy fun. The romance at the center of the story is building to what I imagine will be a cataclysmic finish, and there are otherworldly plot lines that will have to be unraveled in the next installment. I am excited to get reading Book #3!
Catnip & Curses is Book 2 in Emigh Cannaday's slow-burn urban fantasy romance trilogy The Faerie Files. While the author does a good job of providing backstory from Book 1 (Wiretaps & Whiskers) throughout, I highly recommend reading these books in order (trust me, you don't want to miss hot-headed Elena and tall, dark and handsome Logan sharing a one-bed treehouse while working a case in the middle of nowhere 😉).
So, Catnip & Curses picks up seven months after Book 1, where FBI Agent Elena Rivera, a pink-haired, sugar-obsessed fairie working in the OCD (Occult Crimes Divison), and her newbie work partner, Special Agent Logan Hawthorne, FBI golden-boy and all round hunky human with no knowledge of the occult, were made to work together on a case of child kidnapping linked to goblins. Suffice to say, that by this book, Logan is well-versed in goblins, warewolves, vampires, fae, and all things paranormal, and Elena is still drooling over her blue-eyed beefcake partner.
This book is fun and fast-paced, it's full of light-hearted banter between Elena, Logan, and Lafayette (I did mention there's a talking cat, didn't I?!). The story has good character development, a pretty cool plot (with some twists I wasn't expecting), and fantastic secondary characters. The story swaps between Elena's and Logan's POV, which gives a good insight into what they are both thinking and feeling.
Overall, this is a great read if you want a story that doesn't take itself too seriously, but still has a solid plot, has lots of flirting and build-up, but only a little steam, and can help you escape your world while you're in the pages.
I can't wait to get my paws on Book 3, Hexes & Hairballs!
☆I received an ARC of this book, which in no way sways my honest opinion as stated in my review☆
What to say about this exciting continuation of The Faerie Files without giving away any spoilers? The tension between laid back, sugar inhaling Elena and precise, health oriented Logan are at a boiling point and about ready to erupt. To fire things up even more the OCD department is being audited and the accountants that will determine whether or not the department will continue getting funds or be eliminated are teamed up with the clashing pair.
The four agents head to Arizona where there is a poltergeist terrorizing the police station. Elena and Logan investigate while trying to convince their auditor shadows that the paranormal world exists. While Elena is trying to toe the company line a bit more and work well with nonbelievers, she herself is passing off Logan’s very real dreams.
This book is filled with hangman poltergeist, kidnapped babies, evil queens, blue flamed henchmen, psychics, auditors and boiling sexual tension; oh and you can’t forget the talking cat, Lafayette.
Great sequel to Wiretaps & Whiskers! I really enjoyed the new mystery that Logan and Elena have to solve. Ghosts and spirits wait for them trapped in a police station this time. It is great to see how Logan has opened his mind from the beginning of the story and now he is a true believer regarding everything supernatural and paranormal stuff.
Things start to steam up between Elena and her colleague that go on a proper date and cannot take their hands and their minds off each other for long. It is nice that we can read from both POV. However, they are not alone in this adventure. Two new characters are accompanying them and things get more than awkward when they find out what their real mission is.
Awesome writing, entertaining plot, likeable characters and good world building. It is not a complicated plot but there is more than just one story going on which makes this book perfect for an enjoyable reading in summer.
The FBI division of Occult Crimes is getting an audit, and a new poltergeist case all at the same time.
To keep their division from being shut down, Elena Rivera and Logan Hawthorne have to prove that the things that go bump in the night are real.
Having converted her ‘non-believer’ partner into a believer, one would think that dealing with their ‘shadows’ would be easy.
But, once you mix in a mad poltergeist, two very staunch cynics, vivid dreams, and a past that no one was expecting—and you have the perfect setting for Catnip and Curses.
I’m looking forward to the final book being released next month and finding out how Elena and Logan deal with their respective pasts, and what the future holds for the Occult Crimes division of the FBI.
I give Catnip and Curses five out of five stars, and highly recommend both the book and the series to anyone looking for a lighthearted mystery, with both a touch of the paranormal and romance.
We find our FBI partnership still working together about 8 months after the end of book two. Its obvious from the start they still have a love/hate/tolerate thing going.
They are given a new case out of town and told they will be followed by a pair of non-believing paper pushes from the FBI accounting department who are going to try and close down the OCD.
The rest of the story revolves around solving the case and figuring out Logans new dreams/hallucinations, while also not losing their jobs.
The outcome is funny, frustrating and in the end resolves nicely.
I love the constrast between Elenia and Logan, her messy funk food addiction paired with his stricter rule following is perfect. Add to that his impending feelings that he might be more like Elenia than he knows and we have enough charm and charisma to jump off the page.
Everything Emigh writes is magical. Eagerly awaiting for the next in series.
After the first book, I was really excited to read Catnip and Curses but instead of moving forward, this book takes steps backwards. It’s almost like the first book never existed and all the personal growth of the main characters were completely lost. I am so disappointed.
Seriously, a Fae who doesn’t take dreams seriously??? Her partner who believed in her right from the start?
And their trust and ability to work together seems completely gone. Everything they had achieved in the first book, just gone.
Did the author not remember her own story? Maybe she should review her notes and story before writing the next in a series.
It did get better toward the end so I will read the next and final book, but this book could have been so much more.
Look. Book 1 started sort of slow and plodding and uncomfortable, but I stuck with it and it got better. More interesting. Enough so that I moved to book 2.
But the things from Book 1 that bugged me were way more in abundance in this one, PLUS you add in that the two MCs are now in lust with one another and it just doesn’t work.
I wanted mystery, suspense, an ‘aha!’ moment and some delicious sexual tension along with romantic feelings for one another. Instead, I got a frat boy talking about Elena’s ‘t%ts’ and ‘p-ssy’ like that’s all she’s good for. With zero emotion behind it. PLUS two very confusing, convoluted and not very convincing or compelling storylines. And I’m out.
Elena and Logan go to Arizona for a case, only they have company in the form of two auditors for the bureau. With a Poltergeist in a police station, and some weird dreams for Logan, there is a lot going on!
This is the second book in this trilogy, and although you could read it by itself, it’s not really a standalone. Logan and Elena’s experiences are referenced and built upon in this book.
It’s an exciting adventure, with secrets revealed in several different matters, and a smattering of romance for the main characters. An enjoyable urban fantasy with a twist that fans of the genre will appreciate.
This is the second book in the series and it picks up a couple months after the first book. Elena and Logan have become more of a cohesive partnership but personal matters are still a bit dicey. I love this book has some really good character development and character growth from both partners. While the plot isn’t as action packed as the first book it’s definitely more suspenseful. I’m a little sad to see that the series is only gonna be a trilogy because I really, really enjoy it. This book, and this series are definitely worth the read.
Logan and Elena continue on their exploration of their relationship and the fate of the OCD. Some have reported this to be a racist book, that is farther from the truth as you can get. Emigh is, however, historically accurate about how relationships were treated between white men and Chinese woman in the 1800’s west. It’s not her fault people were racist THEN and she pointed that out as part of the story, how wrong that was in the Old West.
Focus on Logan and Elena and not the BS of ignorance floating around. Can’t wait for book #3!!
Such an enjoyable read! Second instalment for Elena & Logan. I found this book I couldn’t put it down. Each time I kept saying one more chapter. I find the storyline predictable and yet still enjoy it. It’s meant to focus around Elena & Logan solving a ghost situation while being audited by 2 other agents but I think that was more a side story. The main focus was on Logan finding out about his history. Predictable and yet cool and I hope it evolves into more in the next book. Especially future of him & Elena together.
This series is a light, funny, easy solved mystery.
It’s a decent enough story line, and moved quickly. I am always looking for something to read when going to bed. It needs to be interesting enough that I want to know what happens, but not so amazing that I don’t sleep and stay up all night. This fits the bill. The only glaring thing, the characters end up at a Waffle House, they’re super scarce in Arizona, but more importantly the author had them served pancakes. 🤦🏻♀️ it’s WAFFLEhouse, they do NOT serve pancakes, they serve waffles and other greasy food, but never pancakes.
This is an entertaining urban fantasy trilogy. Fun cast of characters in an entertaining storyline. Think X-Files but with an agent that is Ashley a fairy from the fire world. Her partner a golden boy FBI agent from a dynasty family is her new partner. They work for the OCD of the FBI. The occult crimes division. They go out and investigate everything supernatural and a cult related. This is the second book in the series and we find more out about both characters in a little more about their division as well. Read on and be entertained.
I love this book! We finally find out why Logan smells so good to Elena. This book totally brings it for me. I enjoy everything that this author writes and I am very sad that I have to wait for the next book. This Urban Fantasy has now brought the romance as well and I LOVE IT! I received an ARC from the author and I am Leaving this TOTALLY HONEST REVIEW because I feel that this is a GREAT READ!!!
I really enjoyed this story. Elena and Logan continue to evolve as characters as does their chemistry. Having the story told from each of their POV works well. The new characters were interesting; Patrick was probably my favorite new consultant. Clyde’s tale was rather tragic. This was a fast read filled with twists, nostalgia for the Old West, love, laughs, catnip, strange journeys, and complications.
Great story, very original and funny I really enjoyed it. This is a wonderful series with some very novel characters. The mix of humans and supernatural works really well. There is a serious side to the story as well that will evolve as the story develops in future books. I think that will be very interesting.
So was enjoying the heck out of these, was going to give a great recommendation..until Elena said that Logan had always been conceited and arrogant but she thought it was bc of his white privilege. Great job insulting a whole race of people. Skin is what you are born with not who you are and sure not what you become. Shame on you
Great plot but could have used some extra proof reading
I love thoroughly enjoy these characters and the multiple plots were great. I liked the development of the characters over the first two books. However the typos and gaffes were distracting. One side character had her named switched back and forth twice on the same page.
I really enjoyed this book. It was great to see the relationship between Elena and Logan develop and evolve. I found the addition of two new characters added to the dynamics. A mystery in Arizona has the team investigating and we find out more about Logan, and his backstory. I can't wait to find out what happens next with everyone.
Another fun read in The Faerie Files series. I enjoyed watching Elena and Logan tackle another paranormal case while still learning how to deal with each other. Add in some surprise revelations, some interesting new characters, and of course the always hilarious Lafayette and I couldn't put it down. I look forward to the next book and would say Catnip and Curses is worth the read.
Wow...Logan and OCD are back...what will the next case be? Our favorite fairy, Elena, and Logan must deal with auditors and paranormal cases. What they come up against is both sad and humorous. We learn a lot about Logan and it left me asking.more questions....I can't wait for the next book in the series...
Elena and Logan are still looking for paranormals. Holy cow. So much happening. Two new agents. Very disbelieving agents. An awakening. A very hysterical agent. A healing. A gigantic emerald beneath the earth. Vivid dreams. Scary dreams. A one-night stand. A beautiful mother. A lord. And the list goes on. Darn I love this series.
The writing and storyline tightens up quite a bit in the second book as the characters meld. The plot is still a little thin, but the fabulous characters make up for the meandering plot. Writing this review roughly 24hrs after the first one if that’s any indication of how much I liked it. And I will start the 3rd book soon.
This just keeps getting better. This is around 6mths after the last book. And the tension between elna and Logan is getting worse. Just wait till he cracks and all it takes is a little black dress. Then there is the revelation that he makes about his past. I was so shocked I had to reread that part. So ready for book 3.
I loved it. Another fun and intriguing read. I can't wait to see what happens next. I had a blast reading about the two new agents and what happened when they became believers. Not only that but the expansion on Logan and Elena's relationship. There's could be dozens of these books and I'd read them.
