I can’t wait until I’m finished reading this mess. If the problematic age gap (because she’s a MINOR = power imbalance) that makes me have absolutely zero respect for the ML isn’t bad enough, we now have Hojo shooting his shot into harassment. Obviously it’s great they’re the same age and all, but she’s turned him down SO many times now. Let her live, man! Take her no already!

I'm giving this book five stars because it made me feel so many emotions.

I found this volume a little bittersweet because of that cliffhanger and because I know that the next volume is the final one. I wonder how things will be tied up and if the important stuff gets resolved. I do wish there was a different conclusion than the one I know is coming, but the main couple is on the cover so there isn't much that can be done.

I think, also, this volume really showed the female MC's age and how their age gap can be a downfall for them. She wants her love interest to succeed, but with the naive notion that her needs can be put aside for his work. And he is understandably busy, but I wanted to shake him every time something new came up.

I'm both excited and wary of the next volume, but here's hoping! *crosses fingers*

Happy reading!

Well, that's a nice cliffhanger, when I won't be able to read the final volume for 3 more months. (I could try digitally, but I don't know if I'm that impatient or not...it's pretty obvious that Meeko will turn Ryo down for the third time, and she and Matsunaga-san will have some sort of an emotionally fulfilling reunion.)

I liked this volume a lot more than the previous one - there was some particularly great stuff with Ken and Asako, and those final scenes with Ryo ripped me to shreds - but I can't quite bring it up to 4 stars because everything feels so rushed.

Matsunaga-san just moved out, and over the course of this volume, Ken announces that he'll be moving out, too, and then so does Asako. And they're both gone like...a week later? A month after Matsunaga-san had left?

I get that there's a limited amount of time left before Meeko graduates and the story's forced to its happy conclusion, but good grief, no matter how long you've known a person, you don't switch from friendship to dating and then to living together over the space of like, a week. I love that progression for them. I think they're a surprisingly good couple, and I appreciate how much Ken genuinely cares about and understands Asako, and how she feels free to be fully herself with him - something that probably wasn't the case in her first marriage. But all of this should've taken place over a few months, at the very least.

Why so rushed? Basically to strand Meeko with no one to turn to for emotional support but Ryo, which creates some Drama for the final volume.

It's not bad as a plot line, honestly...Ryo wouldn't get over her that easily, and it's natural for the two of them to start clinging to each other when they're feeling lonely, with all their other friends moving on without them, in rapid succession. But it is a little bit forced, and it was particularly ridiculous to introduce a new housemate with severe social anxiety who would somehow immediately confront Ryo about something as deeply personal as his feelings for Meeko.

I'm not sure whether she's meant to be Ryo's new love interest - she's 20, the same age as him - but that would definitely be way too fast to wrap up in one more volume. Then again, with the pace of the last two volumes, it's possible......

I guess things dragged on too much in the middle of this series, so everything had to be zoom zoom zoom at this point. It's a bummer because there's actually a lot of great stuff happening now, and I wish it'd been given more space to breathe. And kicking everyone out of the house at all once is just...a rough choice. To me, this was never just "Living-Room Matsunaga-san" - it was a story about six housemates of equal importance, whose relationship with each other was the heart of the series. Not only are they basically all gone now, but Ken and Asako got such a lame sending-off party that Matsunaga-san didn't even show up.

He's in the "too busy with work to see his friends or his not-quite-girlfriend" stage, which is realistic but also kind of a bummer. Missing the going away party for his two good friends who are now basically engaged is a lot. Missing his girlfriend's 18th birthday is a lot!!

I guess they'll just have to resolve this by Meeko moving in with him again so they can see each other while he's working...which will leave poor Ryo completely alone.

The poor guy. Iwashita accidentally made him such a likable character that the only option was to destroy things for him, I guess...

Maybe I will be tempted to read online before getting my preordered physical copy, just so I can see what Ryo's future holds. I already know Meeko and Matsunaga-san are going to be happy, so I'm not too worried about that, but I hope Ryo won't just end the whole thing in crushing defeat.

And I'd like to see more of the other (ex-)housemates, too. I already miss them. It's kind of a bummer to end this series just saying goodbye to everyone...I guess I can understand how Meeko feels, standing in the rain at the end of this volume, feeling a hole in her heart. She hadn't spent that long with these people, when it comes down to it, but they're very easy to get attached to.

I know MJ is endgame but I’m so rooting for Hojo.

Recap: everyone is basically moving out. MJ is busy and Meeko can’t see him. Hojo is trying his best.

Two stars is harsh, but this transition period was irritating to read. Meeko is already having issues with insecurity and Matsunaga working so hard, despite her resolve and understanding from before. Girl, maybe you need to get some hobbies of your own! And I’m not happy that Hojo has been pushed by the new girl (who I thought would be his love interest) into moving forward. I understand wanting to get closure, but it’s very unrealistic to expect it to always be that straightforward in relationships. Giving someone the advice to pursue a love interest who is already in a relationship is questionable when you aren’t well acquainted with the parties involved. This love triangle makes me want to put off reading the next volume for awhile.

I’m glad Ken and Asako resolved their issues, but they moved so fast that it felt like the author just wanted to get them out of the way. Boom, we’re dating and moving out together starting next week. What??

Oh man, this one is so emotional. It starts with Meeko seeing Matsunaga’s apartment for the first time. He even got her a coffee mug with her initial on it!

Then we go to the welcome party for Matsuri-san. She has social anxiety, but everyone does their best to make her feel welcome, little do we know that more will be leaving soon. After the party, she confronts Ryo about his feelings for Meeko, and this seems to have a major influence on him for the rest of the volume.

We have a major development between Kentaro and Asako. She is finally honest with him and they become a couple. He cuts his hair, and leaves his “playboy” ways behind. They then decide to get their own place. So now they will be leaving as well. It’s really said, to watch the group disbanding, as they had so much love between them all.

Matsunaga is extremely busy, he even misses the going away party for Kentaro and Asako after saying he’d be there, and spending the night no less. After the party, Ryo invites Meeko to go with him to a shrine since they are both so down about everyone leaving. While there he asks Meeko to depend on him more, causing her to feel some relief, but then he tells her that he loves her, and Meeko makes it clear that she love Matsunaga.

Matsunag is still insanely busy, and now he misses Meeko’s birthday, and they were supposed to got to Kittneyland. This is when things start to get a little more intense on Ryo’s end. It’s like he knew Matsunaga would flake out, he finds her in the rain, depressed. Once he gets her home, he asks her again if to be a couple with him. He says, “You don’t have to love me, but I love you so much, I can't take it any longer.” He is so sweet and so earnest, and Matsunaga is totally neglecting her, it’s hard not to feel bad for Ryo. Furthermore, he really pays attention to Meeko, and it’s obvious he cares about her. So it’s hard to watch him pine for her.

So it ends on that note.

Supporting cast volumes always get me down.

I realize that big plots require build up and transitions. I realize that an author may want to tie up old plot lines to make room for a bigger one. However, I'm not one to care much for supporting cast. They are a tool to me to move the main relationships forward. When they take away from the main storyline, it feels like the author has lost the plot. This is my bugaboo, and doesn't indicate a failure, usually, on the part of the author. I'm a cynic. I see outside storylines as distractions from the main one. I understand that a new couple was formed, change happens, and events around our heroine need to feel real. It seemed to me, though, that Matsunaga's busy schedule felt artificial—that the mangaka was simply keeping him out of the way to create a complication. Then a new romantic entanglement appeared, which couldn't have occurred without Matsunaga being MIA, which made me feel as if I had been right all along instead of cynical.

Beyond this line there be spoilers ☞

A few thoughts come to mind because of this development. Isn't it realistic that somebody's new business would keep them busy? Why then did it feel artificial to me? Because I could guess what was going to happen. (I also don't like the new love interest. Wishy-washy characters annoy me.) Perhaps if the plots had overlapped a bit more than they did—less conveniently segmented. Perhaps if the old "please-date-me-I-don't-care-if-you-don't-love-me" trope hadn't reared its overused head. Perhaps.

The art was as good as in previous volumes. The cast is lovely to look at. The faces communicate so much emotion thanks to the illustration skill of the mangaka. This was a good volume. However, it's not one I enjoyed reading no matter how vital it's developments were for the next story arc. As I write my own story, I'm very curious to understand why this volume felt so flat to me, and wonder how to avoid similar pitfalls. I'm curious to hear if others agree with me.

***Whole Series Review***

It’s not perfect by any means. There is a very large age between the Meeko and her love interest. Which isn’t bad... but she’s underage; in high school. He’s a grown adult.

That part really messed with my head, but I tried to remember that not only was it fiction, but other cultures differ from ours and have different standards for things. So I let it go. It wasn’t like they were having sex... he barely even kissed her and told her they wouldn’t even officially together until she graduated high school. So I mean... that’s good...

Moving on!

The art is simple and beautiful! I love everything looks realistic, nothing crazy as seen in a lot Shonen manga. I like that! I always prefer more Shojo styles. They are softer and more romantic.

This series is very slow moving between our two main characters, so to make up for this, we get little side plots between other characters that live in the boarding house and I really enjoyed these! I fell in love with these characters and it hurt when they finally moved out of the house. I felt Meeko’s pain at being left behind.

The mangaka did such a great job at making these characters feel real and I loved Meeko got to see that even though they are all adults; they don’t have their shit together like teenagers often assume.

This is a cute manga that hooked me. I couldn’t stop reading. I still feel that Ryo-ken deserved better than what we got, but not all endings can be happy, I guess.

If you like manga, or are thinking about diving in, this is easy to adjust to and sweet as can be.

This volume was good. More or less, what I expected to happen with Masanaga and Hojo happens. I’m happy Ken and Asako got together but it felt a little forced like the mangaka was clearing out the house for “season 2” with a “brand new cast” or something…

It was also kinda weird how we didn’t even see the faces of the two new boarders, which make it seem even more of an excuse to focus only on the main characters…

I’m disappointed with Masanaga, though… even if he is super busy, he could have at least spared an hour to have coffee or lunch with her on her birthday. At least have her come over for a bit… I mean…. come ON, dude! Your sort of girlfriend finally turns 18 and you can’t even see her for 5 minutes?? Honestly, he deserves to lose her to Hojo.

Honestly the more I think about it the more the way things were rushed with the new tenants bothers me… tempted to knock off a star. I also found it out of character for the super super super shy girl to tell this dude she JUST met to stop lying to himself or whatever it was. That was also majorly contrived. Like the mangaka wanted to make sure he’d move in the gap that Masanaga left but didn’t think he could do it on his own… honestly I think Ken saying something (again) would have made a lot more sense.

I know it’s hard balancing a bigger cast, but this was definitely sloppy.

I’m still looking forward to what happens next, but eh.

Oh no... so volume 11 is the last volume. I kind of feel like there's a lot that's going to happen in such a short span.

Matsunaga is super busy with his new job and, not in a mean way, is blowing off plans because he's so busy. Asako and Ken-chan are finally together and have decided to move into their own apartment. Which leaves Ryo and Meeko as the last of their group, behind with a couple of new attendees in the boarding house. Time passes, and it's Meeko's 18th birthday. When Matsunaga gets distracted by work again, Ryo steps in and confesses to Meeko.

We are left on a terrible cliffhanger, and I didn't purchase volume 11 right away, so I'm mad at myself.

I do like how the author has stuck with the revolving door of the boarding house. Nothing is permanent, people will move on or change, etc. I think it really helped with Meeko's growth so far, and you can see her changing in these few volumes.

I do, however, wish she would give Ryo a shot instead of just sticking with "the first love," but with the story ending with only 11 volumes I know she's going to turn him down and stick with Matsunaga.

Which is fine! I just might be a little biased because I prefer Ryo over Matsunaga.

I'm looking forward to volume 11, and I'm also sad that this series is completed.

I made an account cause I needed to share feelings. I’ve been enjoying this series a lot and am quite the simp for Hojo-san BUT I hate how simpy he’s become in this book!!! I can understand him not being able to move on so quickly from Meeko but to a certain extent I just kinda want him to get a grip. As I noticed in some other comments, I also thought Hojo-san and the new girl were gonna have some developments so when she’s like “girl don’t give up” LIKE WHO ARE YOU.

Being in a “long distance” relationship where you don’t see the other person often cause of their work is really hard, I’ve been there so I appreciate the realistic approach the author took but to have Hojo show up and ask her to get in a relationship with her???? BRUH. I’ve been appreciating the less toxic approach of characters in newer series but mans really needs therapy.

Bref, im really excited for the next volume to be released to see what happens next but I need Hojo to get a grip. I also kinda hope we have a bit of a time jump or something since we don’t seem to be getting introduced to the new roomies dynamics.
