Guaranteed to coax a smile from the grumpiest of grumps, FURRY LOGIC is a charming little book with a big heart and sly humor. Exquisitely detailed watercolor paintings depicting animals caught up in the joy and drudgery of life are paired with old adages given a new spin for our times. Tender thoughts such as “Smile first thing in the morning—get it over with,” “If you don't agree with me—it means you haven't been listening,” and “You'll always be my best friend—you know too much” go a long way toward banishing the blahs and shaking off the blues. Designer and illustrator Jane Seabrook's 40 universally appealing paintings of birds, bears, penguins, chipmunks, frogs, baboons, and more are rendered in delicate and biologically accurate detail using a tiny sable brush with a single hair at its tip. In the spirit of international best-seller The Blue Day Book, FURRY LOGIC speaks to the human condition in a way we can all relate to and feel good about.A humorous collection of quotes and drawings that turns life's little challenges into opportunities for laughter. An ideal gift for Mother's or Father's Day, birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, or for no reason at all.
Just for the record, I don't do "chotskies," whether we're talking miniature books or little china figurines. When the recipient, over the years, of such ill-conceived gifts, I have usually responded by discretely discarding them during one of my periodic ascetic purges...
So it is that despite its adorable illustrations and pithy insights into the human condition, I never once considered buying a copy of this little book. I did, I must confess, spend some enjoyable moments paging through it while at work (at my local college-town bookstore), and it always brought a smile to my face. When I saw a copy at a going-out-of-business sale recently, I thought, "Why not? Every rule has its exception."
And there you are... Some of my favorites insight/illustration pairs: the shell-shocked meercat who insists "I'm NOT tense. Just terribly, terribly alert;" the disgruntled owl who grumbles "Smile first thing in the morning. Get it over with;" and of course, the camel who wants to know "Do you believe in love at first sight? Or should I walk past again?"
What can I say? I giggle every time I read this book...
This was an impulse buy from the used bookstore in town and it is one that I am glad that I came across. With no concept of what it may come include I was actually surprised to open it and find that this book is one hidden gem.
The book explores in very simple and easy statements different challenges that we all must face at least once a day or lifetime whether it struggling to get to the top, fighting with depression, never-ending work, etc. At the same time it provides the reader with witty and clever responses based on the animal illustrated that although simple duh answers makes for a very humorous read such as attempting to swallow all evidence, having silly rather than passionate lovers, being unable to get going, etc. Just loved this two-part writing!
And the illustrations are so gorgeous, realistic and beautiful that it is hard to think that anyone could have thought that artwork does a poor job in replacing colored photographs.
This is definitely going to be one of my keepers and I hope to be able to come across some other books from the same series to see how well they line up.
I received this book for an honest review from Blogging For Books.
This enchanting book lives up to its promotional hype. What a great read. So many true life lessons in a small package. I remember reading the book to my own children and the anniversary edition reaffirms the lessons that as a parent I have tried to instill in their lives. The cover had looked vaguely familiar and upon opening the cover knew this was one of the books I purchased for my first-born. I loved it then and love it now. Just remember the trouble with work is it’s so - daily. This book was received just after my mother's funeral. She loved cats and while the entire book was not feline based, there were many truths inside of it's pages with illustrations to match.
This little book of quotes and characters made me smile and laugh. Some of the quotes stirred something in me that would occasionally say "NOT TRUE!" but then I simply sat back and realized this is just a cute little book, not intended to inform people of truths, but to simply have fun and I did.
More info Author bio I gotta say this book was cute but not really what I was expecting. I'm not sure why but I thought it'd be more like comic strips then a picture and a small quote type saying. This is really only a one time read and a very quick one at that. Some of the quotes made me laugh and the pictures were cute. It'll make a cute coffee table book, or even something you and your animal friends can pass around and get a smile from.
I absolutely loved this darling little book of furry logic, excellent advice for humans too. I actually laughed out loud as I was reading, definitely a pick-me-upper. My favorite, or, at least, one of my favorites: Do you believe in love at first sight? Or should I walk past again? The water colored animal illustrations by Jane Seabrook are amazingly cute, highly recommended!
The pictures in this book are really quite stunning. It's hard to believe that the artist can get such detail from watercolors. The quotes were maybe a bit cliched, but that's to be expected in a book like this one. Cute.
This little gem takes less than 5 minutes to read, even if you linger on the wonderful watercolor animal portraits. The cabin bookshelf will be getting a great addition.
