I am not a graphic novel kind of person, as much as I wish I was. I purchased this because I absolutely love and adore All Time Low. I liked the story here, I liked one side of the art, but wasn’t a fan of the other. I did enjoy visualising the world that correlates with the bands vision. I think this short story brought me proper appreciation for the album it ties with. For that, I am glad to own this, and had a great time reading it.
As an All Time Low fan, this graphic novel felt like a hug in a hardback. There's something very comforting about the message behind the story paired with their lyrics scattered through the pages. I kept getting goosebumps and couldn't stop smiling - it really is just a pure joy to read.
I am usually very sceptical about band-related comics, but I highly recommend this one to anyone who's stuck in a rut with their passion and wants to reignite it.
This was a fun story and I enjoyed it!! The plot is a cute nostalgic tour for those of us who have been fans since the Put Up or Shut Up days. The artists clearly heard a physical description of All Time Low through a potato though. There’s hardly any drawings of them that actually look like the band members. Rian is 49 and balding in one drawing and then buzzed head in another. The art really left a lot to be desired. 3.5/5 stars. I rounded down because I think it’s only fan service. People who aren’t obsessed with ATL are missing out, but they also probably wouldn’t get much from this book.
Why is it that the best books are always the hardest to write reviews for? Especially when I should be extra excited to be penning the review that will finish off the book journal I’ve been writing in (and being driven nuts by the weird paper texture of) since almost the beginning of this year. But we’re getting major writer’s block, even though this graphic novel inspired by pop punk band All Time Low was a super fun read. The artwork wasn’t much to write home about - it’s a good example of classic simple, cartoon-style, pop, but without a lot of unique stylization - yet the story was charming in an unassuming way. It begins at a 10-year high school reunion, and follows our two protagonists Connor and Becca on a rambling adventure though Baltimore as they find the connection that they missed by sheer happenstance back when they were younger. Inspired by the extended stories behind the songs from the Last Young Renegade album, the narration is full of tiny moments that ignite memories of the rollickingly fun songs that fill the album - from moments of summertime parties tinged with complicated feelings of loneliness, to the need to GTFO of your hometown and explore the wider world, and all the nostalgia you can handle in between. The story may not be as overwhelmingly perfect as the album (I mean… that’s a high bar), but the small moments of joy in the story definitely leave a lovely afterglow.
Wow! So many thoughts, I’ll do my best to consolidate them. I think I’m uniquely qualified to critique this graphic novel both as an All Time Low fan, and an academic with a degree and years of experience in the world of visual literature. -The story itself is fairly simple and sometimes the writing seems lazy because of this. However wherever there is a lull in the plot, the music of the band evokes a nostalgia thy Carrie’s the readers through, this the importance of the marriage of form and content. -we have ourselves a good ol’ quest narrative and the scavenger hunt is exciting enough to carry the slightly underdeveloped characters through the comic. I will say the growth the characters make in the span of a few pages, though hasty, is significant given this is a plot driven story. - the ending was unexpected and refreshing. I’ll avoid suing more to prevent spoilers. -the art style is your standard comic format, sometimes underwhelming, no especially unique panels but with a strong resonating color palette - while this is not Eisner worthy, the story, art, and music work in tandem to create a fun and entertaining story that ATL fans will be sure to enjoy.
Graphic novels are not my normal reading at all, but, as a general rule, when your favorite band puts one out, you read it. 🤘🏻
I am very happy I picked this up because the story was incredibly cute and fun, and the art was absolutely amazing. Considering how short the story was, the author (Tres Dean) did a great job of really building up the plot and the backstory so we had a good understanding of why everything was happening. And of course I loved seeing all the @alltimelow songs woven in. 😍
If you’re a big fan of graphic novels, I definitely recommend this even if you don’t listen to All Time Low. The story is constructed in a perfect way that, despite All Time Low being important in the story, it can stand all on its own. But, if you do like All Time Low, I think we have to be best friends now. 🖤
Okay, hear me out with this. All Time Low is by far my favorite band. No one will ever top my boys. With that said, I am not a huge fan of comic books. I bought this only because it was All Time Low and I always support and I was excited they were coming out with a book. The story itself is fine. A little boring and predictable but it is what it is. Just because I don't read this genre of books, it was already going to have a lower rating than others, but it was kind of cute. I love how they tied in the different songs and how it ended with Wake Up Sunshine, a song from their newest album. I like how it tied in together. I'll keep this one for a long time, but I can't say I'll put it up to read again. Sorry, ATL, but I love you guys anyway.

Connor and Becca never crossed paths in high school, or at least they don't think they have. When they meet at their high school reunion, it turns into a night that neither of them will ever forget.
This was cute! As a huge All Time Low fan, I loved nerding out over all the song lyrics and I enjoyed seeing the world that the guys had in mind when writing their music.
Ever since I was a big fan of ATL, it's just that their music is so heartbeating and sick. Plus, when I heard there is a new book coming out. I realized this is my desire to read it and keep it forever. And Conner and Becca look so different from the Last Young Renegades music video lol. 🖤
I really enjoyed this. I might be biased, very biased. All Time Low is my favorite band. But it was so cool reading a graphic novel including them and inspired by my favorite album. I quite enjoyed the art style as well!
I had a lot of fun reading this! Pretty cute story and I thought the ending was refreshing. Loved all the art and the little hidden references throughout the story. I would recommend to any all time low fan!
Young Renegades ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Very cute story and I liked it playing along with the music throughout All Time Low's discography through the years. The little story that happened with the two ot them was very cute - did have to reread some bits to get the full grasp of the story but I liked
A vaguely fantasy contemporary graphic novel with lyrics from All Time Low songs that I could hear when I read them? A fabulous will-they-won't-they relationship?
I'm so glad I read this, it was everything I wanted from this graphic novel! Absolutely worth the read!
Eh this was a bit of a disappointment for me and I'm kinda bummed about it. There was definitely some nostalgia if you are/were an All Time Low fan - specifically with certain events and shows being mentioned but the actual story itself was pretty lackluster.
An enjoyable read with a little bit of fantasy and the possibilities of fate. I was fussed on the ending but maybe I'm a romantic. If you want a nice read that entertains this might suit. I read it at the library on a lazy afternoon.
Filled with All Time Low nostalgia ( I feel like you can only read this if you're a fan), the actual story was kinda meh? Feel like im missing the point?
Putting my longtime love of All Time Low aside for this review (since obviously this book was created for the fans), because I really ended up loving this book for its gorgeous art, the very relatable characters, and its overall plot of music being the universal connector no matter where you are in life. This book is so beautifully done by showcasing how relationships can blossom just from sharing the same love for a band, but it also takes a step further to make the reader see that it's ok to continue trying to chase your dreams even if the world tries to tell you to stick to an unrealistic timeline.
