In this humorous and cozy mystery series, the reader is swept away into exploration and adventure, in a magical town called Spellbound. Here you find a multitude of paranormal people and creatures cohabitating in one realm. Emma, heroine, is a witch of sorts and the town sleuth.

Emma frets in turmoil over the upcoming marriage of the man of her dreams, Daniel, to someone else. Something seems kind of hinky about the whole thing. Besides that drama, there is the mystery of a recent dead citizen to solve. Emma has her plate full in this book.

Each book in the series adds new characters, some interesting and others not so much. All seem to get along with Emma.

What will happen next? You will just never know unless you crack open the book and start reading.

This book can stand on its own, it was a clean presentation, a romantical disaster was avoided, and a mystery was solved --

2022 book 203. I enjoyed this one better than the prior #4 book. Possibly because the town's Minotaur became a 'real' person in this story, not dating our heroine. When a building inspector slips off a ladder to his death, the town's new sheriff with her posse of females has to look into everyone. Along the way, the remedial class does further bonding, poker night takes on a whole new meaning with the addition of gorgons, harpies, and what exactly are the Grey sisters? Fun read for a hot summer day.

Emma has a lot on her mind, so much that she’s trying therapy which is nothing like she expected. She has a budding friendship with the minotaur, Markos, a new case involving a young werelion who is obviously hiding something and of course her “love” for Daniel. I’ve got to admit the obsession with Daniel is bothering me a bit. I hope it gets resolved soon.
When a building inspector is found dead in Markos’s new building, Emma starts helping Astrid, the new sheriff, with the investigation. Plus, she’s trying to figure out if Elsa has put a spell on Daniel.
There are several things happening and lots of new characters. Gareth is getting lessons on how to be more interactive. The girls poker party is definitely an interesting occurrence.
This is a quick, easy, fun read with a nice little mystery. These books are not for deep thinking, only enjoyment.

This is the fifth story in Spellbound featuring the detecting work of Emma Hart & her budding romance that has been thwarted with Daniel. I enjoyed reading the mystery with the werelion family, this pride was well developed and were likable. Emma continues to peel away the layers of her family's magical history. I have definitely enjoyed learning more about Emma's family and the spells have been quite creative! Will continue to read the Spellbound series, a light fun magical romp. ✨✨✨

I'm quite enjoying these delightful cozy mysteries set in a charming small town full of witches, vamps, were's of all many varieties, ghosts, familiars, etc.

Includes the standard elements of cultural appropriation such as voodoo dolls, spirit animals, dream catchers etc used as magical tools so to speak in a largely European set magical world.

Im still in Spellbound, where Emma being a witch in a town full of paranormals is her new life.

Emma's life is still turned upside down when it comes to Daniel being engaged and issue's with being a witch in remedial classes. She opts.to go to therapy and her therapist is off her own rocker.

Emma is.trying. to move on from Daniel but not at the same time. When Marko asks her on a date, she agrees to go on one condition; that they go ad friends. Marko agrees as two friends getting to know each other better.

This go around Emma is investigating the murder of the building inspector that died in Mario's current building. Simultaneously, she's defending a young twenty year old werelion that drops a bag of deadly night shade.

While all this is going on Emma just can't stop thinking about Daniel and lifting the spell she thinks he is under. Throughout this installment Emma gets too distracted by Daniel and it could get her killed.

Better Than Hex is the fifth book in the Spellbound series. It's a full length novel that has light drama, humorous moments, lots of magical paranormals, and a bit of love.

Books in the series include:
Curse the Day, Book 1
Doom and Broom, Book 2
Spell's Bells, Book 3
Lucky Charm, Book 4
Better Than Hex, Book 5

Next in the Spellbound series:
Cast Away, Book 6

A bit slow

This story has Emma having to deal with Daniel being engaged to someone else and trouble for Marcos at his new building.

The stories are getting a little repetitive, but are still enjoyable to read. Yet another youth case and another murder. Emma is convinced Daniel is not himself.

It is all rather bitty and lacking in the humour side of things. The story for me was slow going.

If you are reading the set it is worth it but it is not one I would start with. The case is solved but much is left open and unresolved.

It is my least favourite of the books so far but still a good read with all the characters progressing well but the Daniel thing was getting boring.

In this part of the series, Emma Hart is dealing with a new case of a young man, 20 years old, that has been caught in possession of a poisonous plant. She, of courses feels sorry for him because as a young member of the Were Lion group in town, he has a lot of responsibility on him and she really wants to find a way to keep him out of jail.

In addition, she is worried about her Fallen Angel wanna-be Romantic partner because he is involved with someone else, and she thinks he is being tricked. Of course, that concern is one that she has a personal interest in.

But there is a prior murder case that is still not solved, and it turns out something that works with another of her suitors has been busy causing trouble, and she almost loses her life as a result. Oh, and the dead vampire former public defender is trying to learn how to make himself known in the real world...and making progress.

I recommend this for those who enjoy stories of magical beings, all sorts of were-creatures, vampires, elves, fairies, and Emma herself who has recently realized that she is not simply a witch.

Emma geht in Therapie.
Also Freund-Freund. Nicht fester Freund. Das MUSS erwähnt werden... Merkste?
JETZT!

Emma’s now dealing with a werelion found in possession of deadly nightshade and the murder of a building inspector. What I really like about these books, though, is that even though they’re light and frothy, the characters still progress and grow through each book and there are repercussions or results from their actions. Emma receives the key to the city for her actions in the previous book, for example, and she’s still trying to deal with Daniel’s inexplicable attraction to Elsa. She makes a new friend in Markos while also struggling with information learned about her source of magic in the last book. I love the multiple storylines.

The book falls down a little in that it sometimes skips ahead too quickly. A poker night was hyped as a big deal, then we weren’t even shown what happened there. Even the confrontation with the Big Bad of the novel was truncated. On the plus side, Emma’s gay vampire ghost roommate gets better and better with each novel. More Gareth, please!

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Trying to move forward..

.. Emma accepts a "friendship" date with Markos the minotaur who is the most eligible bachelor in Spellbound. Daniel is engaged to Elsa but Emma is still upset by his complete turnaround over the relationship.

When the date is interrupted by the Sheriff Astrid after a body is discovered at Markos new building project Emma has a case to take her mind off her woes but a lesson at the college gives her pause for thought.. has Daniel been given a potion to make him see the best in Elsa? As she's also trying to help a werelion caught with poison and no one else wants to look into her suspicion about Elsa she's going to have to deal with everything else first.

In diesem 5.

"Better Than Hex" by Annabel Chase is the fifth book in the "Spellbound Paranormal Cozy Mystery" series. Emma Hart is going through a crisis of the heart. She can't quite believe that Daniel has chosen his ex-girlfriend over her, but at the same time, she has to appear like she is moving forward with her life. At the same time, she's continuing to get to know Markos while a murder happens in one of his buildings. Can Emma find her way through her latest set of mysteries, or will she get lost trying to figure everything out?
Overall, this was another great novel in this series. It was a quick read that keeps moving everything forward.

Better Than Hex

I just can't get enough of this series Annabel Chase is such a good writer of the para cozey mystery and the array of characters in this series are so colorful dramatic and vibrant even the nasty schemers so they will draw you in from the very beginning then you'll be enticed further through intrigue and drama .Then there is the plot that carries you and wraps you up with all its magical mayhem and excitement. There's just so much to enjoy .Acquire " Better Than Hex "book five in (Spellbound Paranormal Mysteries) you won't be able to put it down once you start reading it. Kat

Cosy as all the rest before it. What I didn't like was how the main mystery played out; it felt like it was in the background. Tbh the villain of the story was not at all suspicious and had no motive; the way it was resolved was rushed and unsatisfying. Good thing I don't read these books for the mysteries but for the cosy vibes. (I realise this sounds like a backhanded compliment and I truly don't intend it to be so. I genuinely love reading these books for the warm, cosy feeling they give me. All the residents of the town and sweet and quirky and I enjoy reading about them time and time again.)

Finally a murder again! Unfortunately, Emma was more focused on breaking up Daniel‘s engagement than on the case - or her new ‚friend‘ Marcos.
Seriously, this obsession with Daniel is so ridiculous and boring - mostly because he’s one of the most uninteresting love interests I’ve ever encountered. Marcos is better, Demetrius would be the right choice, but Daniel? It would be a real good thing if he were actually in love with Elsa and truly marry her, ending this nonsense. It won’t happen, I know, but that’s what would be the best for this series.
As for the case, it was pretty far-fetched as most of them and it was resolved awfully convenient for Emma’s secret.

Not up to par for this series

Disappointing on many levels. Emma's pontificating to her young client at the beginning was so naive and shallow, it was very difficult to credit the thinking to someone who had recently been educated as an attorney. I found this colored my reaction to this entire storyline. Emma's "secret" does not make sense, and no information has been offered to substantiate it. I also can't believe that all the men in Spellbound are dumber than rocks. Very disappointed.
