Good Grief, Idaho #2

Me and the Tidy Tornado

Rate this book
Tammy Fry

I thought it would be a good idea to buy a dog…I ended up with an ATV I have no idea how to drive.

I’m not sure how this happened, especially since the man I purchased it from, Justin Gabriel, introduced himself by running his remote-controlled monster pickup into my high heeled shoe.

I’m serious, studious and a high school English teacher at Good Grief High. Needless to say, Justin Gabriel is not my type.

Except I also somehow managed to get myself signed up for a charity run riding the ATV I’ve purchased but have never started.

Mr. Gabriel is going to teach me how to drive. If I can stand him that long.

Justin

She’s tall, tidy and man, when she gets serious about riding her machine, that woman’s a tornado!

This country boy is in love.

I'm not sure the lady feels the same.

This one seemed almost exactly like the first, just with a slightly different storyline. I think I liked how they fell in love more, but it still wasn't the best.

Justin and Tammy’s second chance at love story is sweet, clean and charming. A spark of unexpected (and maybe even unwanted on Tammy’s side) attraction leads to a sweet, persistent and thoroughly charming courtship by Justin. Both have been divorced, and both lost custody of their sons, though his son did come to live with him a few years later. They are just two people who are not expecting love to happen again.

Justin owns a variety of businesses including the ATV dealership that Tammy goes to to purchase an ATV. He is quick to recognize her frosty and haughty attitude is a guard she puts up in order to keep from getting hurt. He doesn’t like the idea that she has been hurt. He wants to protect the soft centre that he is sure is hidden beneath her strong, frosty facade. Normally he would never be attracted to someone like her...so serious, so formal and so guarded, but she brings out his protective instincts like no one has ever done before. He also wants to be the one to help her loosen up, to smile and to laugh. He knows that will be a challenge, but he is looking forward to that challenge.

Tammy is a high school English teacher who really cares about her students. She has learned how to control a room full of people and to command respect. Who goes out to by an expensive ATV without knowing how to drive one, or a place where it can be driven? Tammy does on a whim. She doesn’t question herself like her ex would have done, or berate herself either. Her marriage and subsequent divorce have forced her to put guards around her heart and to swear off relationships. The tall, attractive owner of the ATV dealership stirs something inside of her she is determined to quell.

As it turns out, they end up seeing quite a bit of each other. She begins to tutor his son, and discovers that Justin is a concerned, supportive father. Justin finds himself thinking of her throughout his day and sometimes even in his dreams. He shows up unexpectedly at basketball games and other places where he knows she will be, and finds himself really noticing everything about her. The emotions that cloud her face sometimes, the way she puts herself down or compares herself to her sister. He notices those things and calls her on them, not wanting her to dwell on troubling things or to put herself down. Tammy begins to see that Justin is very different from her ex who thought nothing of belittling her or lying about her to gain custody of their boys. They both start to flirt, tease and agitate each other, even as they fight their insecurities to stop them from getting the better of them. Every smile she gives him lightens his heart, but her laugh makes him feel like a hero. Can he win her heart? Will they both take a chance on love?

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

If the first book in this series took me a bit to get into, I think the author has found her footing with this genre already because "Me and the Tidy Tornado" definitely hooked me from the start.

I loved how down to earth this story was, and how the problems it deals with (directly or indirectly - mainly divorce, but also the effects it can have, such as low self-esteem or even an eating disorder) are not so easily solved as it tends to happen with most Contemporary romance or even rom-coms. The characters were perfectly imperfect and suited for each other, so I definitely enjoyed getting to know Tammy a bit more, as well as watching her slowly be charmed by Justin (he definitely got me rooting for him with all his talk of "the lady..." and "the man..." 😁). I also loved the dynamics of Tammy's family and how we got introduced to Leah and Kori (can't wait to read their books!) as well as Justin's relationship with Roy. I loved Tammy's growth of character throughout the book, as well as how clearly this story displayed (and talked about) vulnerability being necessary for/within a relationship.

Overall, this is a great continuation to a series that will probably be a hit for those who are fans of the genre and are willing to give Jessie Gussman's work a chance ;) (seriously, I can't believe I'm enjoying and loving a series with characters in their forties, at least, but that's how good the author is 🙌). ~ 5 stars.

PS/Disclaimer: I don't mean any disrespect by that last statement, I only mean that past experiences about reading characters within that age group have never made me root so much for them as with this series.

Tamera (Tammy) Fry felt that she was being lead to make a change in her life either it be a dog or a 4-wheeler. She chose the latter of the two, for what reason no one will ever know. She was a woman that does not have a lot of fun. Her ex-husband did a real job on her when he left taking their two sons with him. He took everything he could take from her to the point she has no use for men in general even though it had been years since the divorce.

When she went to buy the 4-wheeler the owner, Justin Gabriel and her did not exactly hit it off, but he did sell her one by color only, and they loaded into her dad's truck. Justin asked her if it would be fine for him to come by that night to unload it for her. She actually agreed and when he got there even agreed to go to a charity race with him in a couple of weeks.

Justin and his son, Roy had not lived in town very long, so Justin did not know that Tammy was Roy's English teacher until she showed up on his door step to discuss Roy's grade and possible failure of her class. They were discussing how Roy could improve when he came in. After, that Roy and Tammy started spending a great deal of time together, so he could get his grade up and he was teaching her to ride her 4-wheeler. A win, win for both of them.

Justin spent as much time as he could with Tammy, but he had his business to operate. They did get to do the charity race and the more time they spent together, they did realize they had alot in common. They could actually laugh with one another.

A beautifully written story of second chance love, where they had both been hurt and not very trusting going forward.

I loved Me and the Tidy Tornado. I like romantic comedies in general, and what makes this one especially appealing is that the hero and heroine are in their forties instead of the twenty-somethings usually featured. This choice pays off for the reader because older people have families, more lived experience and value emotional connections more than they did when they were younger which makes a more interesting story.

Tamera was so devastated by her ex-husband and his lies to gain custody of their sons that she put her personal life in the freezer. So everyone who knows her is surprised when she buys an ATV.

Justin not only sells Tamera an ATV, he is her perfect match - although Tamera has her reservations about him when they meet. Justin is immediately intrigued by Tamera, and figures out fairly quickly that her prickly attitude is a defense mechanism. Justin sets out to get to know Tamera better, a process that moves faster when Tamera starts helping Justin's son after school so that he will pass her English class. The more Justin and Tamera get to know each other, the greater the attraction to the other person is.

Me and the Tidy Tornado could almost be a textbook for how to overcome the fears holding you back and how to heal oneself, with lots of humor and family support. Tamera learns how to grow beyond the past and I was cheering for her all the way to a happy ending.

I received an early reader copy of Me and the Tidy Tornado from the author and all opinions expressed are my own.

Sweet and Sassy,Like Its Predecessor

Me and the Tidy Tornado, Jessie Guess man's follow-up to Me and the Cute Catastrophe, walks in the steps of the first book with an unhappily divorced woman and a divorced man with expertise she doesn't possess... four wheel ATV driving this time instead of basketball. Several elements are different this time, however; she comes to him rather than the other way around, and he is not resistant to her request at all.

I preferred the first book because, misguided as Claire's approach to basketball was,it was still more believable than Tommy's out-of-nowhere purchase of an ATV. It's also a strain of credibility that Justin's son is in Tommy's English class. Sure, it enables her to spend time at Justin's house, helping Roy with his approach to writing and getting ATV driving lessons in return, but does that actually happen, even in a town as small as Good Grief, Idaho?

Despite those quibbles, Me and the Tidy Tornado delivers a compelling love story set among fallible, lovable people who've been knocked over by a bad marriage and need to learn to trust a new romantic partner. For readers in a similar situation, this is a fun and affirming read!

Jessie Gussman nails it again in her second book in the Good Grief, Idaho series. (With a town named Good Grief, Idaho, how can you not want to read these?!?!😄) The story definitely lived up to its genre; as a rom-com, I smiled, grinned and laughed all the way through it. With that being said though, Jessie's portrayal of the emotional damage of her main characters, wrought by their nasty divorces, was both blunt and accurate, which compelled the reader to empathize with Tammy and Justin. A funny rom-com with serious undercurrents -- Jessie Gussman's multi-faceted talent pulls it together superbly. The characters were relatable and likable despite their flaws. The situations they found themselves in were most often the "laugh out loud" moments. What makes it an even better story is that it's a middle-aged woman, rather than a man, who has a mid-life crisis, buying a tricked-out ATV -- and she's never been on an ATV in her life. The description of Tammy's experience in the charity ride was one of the highlights of the book. If you prefer sweet, clean, funny stories, you'll enjoy this one!

This is my first Jessie Gussman book, which she gifted to me. I liked that the characters were older and even though they fell in love quickly, they still allowed the relationship to grow at a natural pace. I liked that he could see all her layers for what they were. It took a while for her to trust him but he didn't push that either.
I didn't love the first person POV. I felt like I was getting too much info about what was going on in their heads at any given moment and a lot of it was repetitive. It made the story very predictable. I kept waiting for a bombshell to drop to increase the conflict but it didn't happen. They just had to overcome their own fears and insecurities.
I also didn't love that her ex could lie and presumably pay others to lie to get custody of the boys and get away with it. She doesn't seem to have fought back at all. She says that she couldn't prove what he said wasn't true so that was that. Seems to me that she should have had a better lawyer or something. I know that part of the story adds to the insecurities she has but it bugged me.
I love the name of the town. Such a funny choice.

But she has never even been on an ATV!

We are back in Good Grief, Idaho for another installment in the life and times of the amazing Fry sisters. Tamara is the oldest, and most serious sister. She teaches high school English and looks every bit the academic. Having survived a bad marriage and divorce, she is still wounded and cautious. Tamara is not prone to act on impulse but she decides to buy an ATV even though she has ever ridden or driven one. Justin Gabriel, the owner of the shop is fascinated by the tall, slender woman and finds himself looking for reasons to see her again. He will get his wish when he discovers that his son is failing English.

This is the second book in this new series from Jessie Gussman. It does not have the slapstick humor of the first book but it has a storyline and style that fits with Tamara’s personality and is very enjoyable. The characters are relatable and the story is very believable. It could easily take place in any small town. I like this series and I look forward to reading the next book.

Tammy never intended to buy an ATV. Not her thing at all. But then again, when the shop owner, who aroused her ire by running a remote-control car into her foot at first meeting, makes her want to lower her defences for the first time in years, she decides that maybe riding an ATV could be fun. She's used to holding aloof from people other than family - can she open herself to the possibility of change?

I wasn't totally sold on the first book in the series, but this one grabbed me from the word go. A highly enjoyable, very satisfying, humorous but still touching and inspiring story. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in this series, based on the epilogue (the books are about a group of sisters - can be read alone no problem, but do share characters). Recommended.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

Can Tamera get over a crushing divorce and become interested in another man

We read about Claire's sister Tamera and she seemed to be very up tight and guarded after losing custody of her children in her divorce. When she goes out to buy an ATV it is entirely out of character. It is a fortunate day for her because that is how she meets Justin. He too lost his son in divorce but his mother allowed him to choose and he is living with him now. He is very cautious around Tamera but can't deny his attraction. I think he is very sweet and knows how to make her feel seen and special. I like that his son Roy is involved in the story. It shows Justin's character as well as demonstrating that he takes his responsibilities very seriously.

AS they negotiate their relationship Tamera becomes more open to letting Justin in. I enjoyed their story.

What happens when a divorced woman buys an ATV? A better question might be why she wants to buy one when she doesn't even know how to use it. But she gets to meet a man that might just be what she really needs. This book is full of hilariously funny things to brighten your day. I also liked its sage advice for teenagers: "1-You don't get to choose the trials you're given. You only get to choose what you make of them. 2-Nothings worse than someone who thinks the world owes them because they didn't get a fair shake." I also love this audible book because Mr. Dyess is the narrator. This story really allows him to "show off" his exceptional talent. Another superb job! I received a free copy. This is my voluntary review.

Tammy decides to buy an ATV but she does not know how to ride one. She isn't even sure why she has decided that she needs one. But she buys it anyway. She is a high school English teacher.

She meets the store owner who decides to tease her a little after running over her boot with a remote control truck. They both are a little attracted to each other.

I laughed at parts of the book and really enjoyed the storyline and characters. As usual with Jessie's writing skills and Jay Dyess's awesome narrating this story is like the rest of their works. You get drawn into the book and when you are finished you are at a loss as to what to do next. Do you start a new book or just sit and go wow. I can't believe its finished already.

Should I buy a brand new ATV? Being a divorced parent, I can relate to most of this story except the part about buying a brand new ATV. For the most part this story is about the hardships of divorced parents with children and the challenges that come along with it. But being a rom com has its comedic moments, romantic and comedic moments although there is an underlying message of adherence to Christian principles. This is my second time around listening to this book. I think I enjoyed it more the second time around. Maybe I will enjoy it even more a third time. Of course I can’t comment on these books without saying something about the great job Jay Dyess does with his performance. He has me spoiled for any other narrator because he is not just a narrator; he is a performer!

I loved the story of Tammy and Justin, both divorced and lost their kids. Justin had his son back and Tammy is his English teacher, although at the beginning Justin doesn't know that.

The beginning is so funny, when Tammy has decided to get a dog to brighten her life. But somehow she ends up at Justin's shop and spontaneously decides to buy a four Wheeler surprising herself. When she is in the shop, a remote control car keeps running into her and she thinks some kid is doing it. She goes up to the office to complain to the owner, only to discover that he is the one with the remote control. It is nice to see two older people meet and fall in love. Many funny moments as well as sweet ones. I listened to the audio book and it is great.

This is the second book in a new series. I thought it was delightful. Tammy is very tall and the eldest of several sisters. She is divorced and lost custody of her boys. She's an English teacher in the town where she grew up and her entire family lives close by.

But she's in a rut and decides to buy an ATV although she's never ridden one. That decision will change her life forever.

This was a fun, very clean romance. I just loved reading it.

You do not need to have read the first book to enjoy this one but there is something that is revealed in this book that happened after the first book ended.

This book can be read by any person who enjoys clean romances. I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.

I received an ARC of this book from the author, Jessie Gussman, via Bookfunnel and this is my voluntary and honest review. I enjoyed this sweet romance between Tammy and Justin who are opposites who are drawn to each other when Tammy buys an ATV during a midlife crisis from Justin's business. The funny thing about that purchase is that she has no idea how to drive it and no property large enough to drive it on. She chooses it mainly because it is a powder blue color. This is a great series and a lot of fun to read about the funny romances of each sister. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next book in the series.

I enjoyed this book about Justin and Tammy. Tammy decides one day to buy a four-wheeler. She just goes out and pays fifteen thousand dollars on a new hobby. She's never even been on one before so it's kind of an impulsive buy. Justin sells four-wheelers so that's how they meet.

Justin invites Tammy to a charity run on the four-wheeler. She's never been so she takes him up on his offer. But she needs to learn how to run hers. His son Roy is in her class and he's failing. Tammy can't stand for anyone who is smart enough to pass to be allowed to fail. So she offers to tutor Roy in English if he will teach her how to ride her new passion.

I had an Advance Readers Copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Jessie Gussman has another great book in this series. This Ron-Com is about another sister, and her problems of low self-worth. She’s a high school English Teacher and ends up helping one of her students in exchange for four wheeler lessons. The romantic interest is with the owner of the four wheeler shop who also had a failed marriage, and how they end up complementing each other even though they are so different. Great read.

Cute RomCom by Jessie Gussman. I liked that the story was about an older couple who had previous difficulties in their respective marriages. I liked seeing how Justin helped Tammy to trust man again and to know he was sincere when he talk to her. I liked that the characters were relatable and I could see the events happening. I thought this was a fun book and I look forward to other books in this series.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors.  A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

I like this 2nd book in the series best (so far). I like that the main characters are older, not young, know it all, etc etc. Incorporating the main peoples (Tammy and Justin) chillins, I love Roy, such a teenager with some manners, even with all he's been through with his mom and her significant others and now the baby she's going to have, to the move with his dad, new school, new friends, basket ball, helping his dad at that ATV store and so much more.
I'm hoping and look forward to finding out more about Tammy's boys and how her Ex reacts to her and Justin's visit.

This is another sweet romcom set in Good Grief Idaho. Jessie Gussman writes really nice stories that are very entertaining and great escapes. I liked how the characters don't play games and are mature people with some scars and baggage who have learned from their past mistakes and are ready to do better in their next relationship. And these two were cute because they were so different on the surface but they could appreciate and were willing to take each other's recommendations and challenges to heart. I read an ARC of this story and am happy to share this honest review.

First-rate story.
Justin and Tammy’s love story is so sweet! Divorced and the lost of someone important is something they both have in common. What I liked the most is how real this story felt touching on real-life problems like divorce. Having Idaho as my next-door neighbor most of my life I can picture a place like Good Grief I want to visit it too. It is so nice that the author can take her fans on a journey there. A delightful and clean romance that you are sure to love I highly recommend this gem. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

This second book in the "Sweet, Small Town Romantic Comedy In Good Grief, Idaho" series was charming and delightful. I enjoyed the story about Tammy Fry, an English teacher, and Justin Gabriel who sold ATVs. This book was a lovely example of the sub-genre titled, "Romantic Comedy" and I recommend it to others who enjoy this genre. Jay Dyess' narration added to the lightheartedness of the tale and was pleasing to hear. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Me and the Tidy Tornado is even better than the first book in the series. Despite being a romantic comedy this book deals with the real self esteem issues left after divorce. Tammy and Justin are flawed, likeable, relatable and perfect for each other. The story is clean, funny and romantic. This book grabbed me in the first chapter and never let go. Ms. Gussman has delivered another wonderful romance!

I enjoyed this second book in the series. This one focused on Tammy, who is divorced and has two sons who live with her ex-husband.. She is a high school English teacher who is very set in her ways until she meets Justin Gabriel. It was a fun journey watching them interact with each other in this romantic comedy set in Good Grief, Idaho. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

This book started with a hilarious meet-cute between the two main characters and kept me smiling and entertained the whole way through. In between the chuckles, there was a story about two very real people with hurts in their pasts who, at first glance, appear to be a mismatch but as the story continues it is fun to see how they bring out the best in each other. I enjoyed it! I was entrusted with a copy of this book by the author and this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

A remote control truck isn’t how I would typically picture a meet-cute, but it works.
I just kept smiling, except for a couple moments that tugged on those heartstrings.
This series is off to a wonderful start; and Tamara’s story made me smile as much as Claire’s story, in the first book.
This is a must-read series.
I received a review copy of this book, and I am leaving a voluntary review.
