The disappearances of multiple young girls within days of one another thrust a small town into a panic.
After a child is abducted at a local supermarket, Macy, an uncompromising yet isolated detective, dives deep into the secrets of the small town where nothing is as it seems. It’s only a matter of time before the kidnapper strikes again, and the sands of the hourglass have already started sifting away.
This is one of the worst books I've ever read, and definitely the worst one I've actually finished. I wanted to see how the author would wrap it up, and I wasn't surprised at the ludicrous and facile finish. The story was idiotic, and the dialogue defies description, although stilted and sophomoric fit the bill. And that's as much more time as I'm going to waste in this travesty of fiction.
Small Town Secrets by Robert Walker is a fantastic story that I have loved reading. This is book number twenty seven in this fantastic series that I have been so hooked on. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about suspense, thrillers and mysteries.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
Robert J. Walker is one of the most versatile fictioneers that I have had the pleasure of discovering in a long time. I discovered him when I stumbled across the box set, The Aftermath, a four volume set of post EMP survival thrillers. There were over 1,000 pages in those books, but it hooked me from the very first page of the first book and found it almost impossible to put those books down, even when other responsibilities forced me to. Walker has a way of creating characters so lifelike that they are easy to love and root for, or to hate and want to see them get their deserved ends. The dialogue is so natural, so realistic, that the temporary suspension of disbelief is never an issue. After The Aftermath, I was a Robert J. Walker fan.
Small Town Secrets, although a different genre, is another slam-dunk winner for Walker. In Small Town Secrets, Macy Whitfield, a detective and single mother, becomes involved in a kidnaping case that turns into an international human trafficking case during her pursuit of the human traffickers. The mastermind behind the ring, the daughter of an ex-KGB agent, tries to kill her, but fails. Macy’s partner, Elliot, gets shot in the chest during their attempt to rescue five of the children. When Ivanov, the mastermind and one of her co-conspirators is captured, her boyfriend takes Whitfield’s daughter hostage and Whitfield has to break Ivanov out of jail to save her daughter’s life. How will this story end? Will she get her daughter back alive? Will Ivanov and her lover, Lyle, get away? Well...you’ll have to read this adrenaline thrill ride for yourself to find out.

I loved every minute of it and gave it 5 stars. Great story with great characters. I found myself completely invested in every character. I wish the author would write more books with these characters. It did have some cuss words in it but that did not bother me. If you love Kidnapping mystery then this is a must-read for you. You can read for free on kindle unlimited. As always if you like the book you read please take the time to leave a review for the author in places like goodreads & Amazon. It does not have to be long. Just a few sentences saying you liked the book will do. Authors really appreciate every review they get !
A perfect well-written super awesome thriller. Macy and her partner Elliott investigate the child kidnapping where Shayna, an eight year old daughter of Susanna gets kidnapped from a departmental store. She is the sixth victim of a human trafficking gang consisting of three men and a woman. The store clerk supplies them with a vital information about Feldman, an ex-security guard who had sexual harassment charges filed against him. Macy and Elliott pay a visit to his house. Before Elliott could burst in, Macy saves him from a certain death as Feldman attempts firing at them and manages to escape. They discovered that Feldman had destroyed all the evidence linking him and his accomplices by dumping the laptop and hard drive in a bath tub. With almost no clues in their hands, how Macy and Elliott crack the case is absolutely fascinating. A must read.
It was just ok for me, I was invested only because I don't like to quit but that's about it. Could have had a better ending because honestly it really was a good storyline. I think what annoyed me the most about this book was the repetitive use of certain word's and phrases over and over again. YES I get it your "sixth sense is tingling again" blah, blah blah..or how every run down building was "derelict"... really? Was definitely a very unrealistic representation of law enforcement and crime procedure..I found myself rolling my eyes and saying "yeah right" a lot throughout this book. Not terrible, but definitely could have been better.
This book deserves the best rating we can give it. It deals with a hot subject in our society today, and it needs airing to the public. I know this is fiction, but letting the public know what goes on is vital to the need of the public to becoming aware of what happens in real life.
This story kept you on your toes until the end. Lots of action and suspense. This story brought to light the horrible fact of child traffickers that do exist in our lives. We can only hope there's people like Whitfield out there determined to make a difference.
I find it hard to believe the glowing reviews. Apart from the fact that time after time, the police make stupid mistakes or are blind to the obvious, there is a HUGE plot error which makes the ending an impossibility.
Kidnapped children sold to cartels an who knows where else. Courage and a strong convection takes a police woman to new heights as she brings the Criminals to justice.
This opened my eyes on being more alert. The kidnappers were vicious in the way they took & treated the children. Detectives Macy had great six sense and Elliot always told her to listen to it. Kept me on my toes ,guessing what was next
The reader is taunted with twisting through situation after seeming end only to be left hanging at the end of this novel. The situations and events are barely possible to believe. Delusions or fact is left to the discretion of the reader.
The story line was a good one for me, I liked it. The characters I didn't feel were fully developed and didn't find them really credible. Maybe they were "small town" but said and did things that were amateurish. It was an okay read.
Good read kept me intrigued throughout. I like the characters who were the hero's. Good twists at times. Liked it a great deal. Will read more from this author.
