Four Trials. Five Hundred Contenders. One Winner. The prize? The throne of Regulus.

I never wanted to be queen, yet I find myself swept up in the competition.

I never wanted a man, yet I find myself distracted by three of them.

I never wanted people's gratitude, yet they're cheering my name in the streets.

Warrior.

Defender.

Diplomat.

Leader.

The four key qualities of the True Queen of Regulus. And I have to prove that I have them all.

All I ever wanted was to become the Sergeant of the Watchers for the busiest district in Regulus -- Adhafera. But The Hunt has begun and the desert Queendom is running out of water. Hundreds of women enter and I unwillingly throw my name into the competition. The only other contender who has a chance of beating me is a known cheater.

I have to select three advisers, which is a good thing, because there are only three people I trust enough to join me. Stryker, my childhood best friend and lover, who also happens to be the King of the Night, Master Thief. Tyson, my training patrol officer and a massive thorn in my side. And Leander, the Head Councilman's son.

Now all I want is to become the True Queen of Regulus, blessed by Leo to rule, and to bring water to the people. If only Leo would give me his Mark.

The Sun Queen is Book 5 in the Royal Celestials standalone shared world, a zodiac-based series, and represents Leo. This is a medium-burn fantasy reverse harem romance that can be read as a standalone.

4.8 stars.
Oh. My. God.
This book was fucking fantastic!
First, the KU cover is absolutely fucking stunning.
I mean, if I could get a print of it to hang on my wall, I 100% would. It’s beautiful.
Then the characters.
The plot. The pacing.
The adventure.
The political obstacles.
The trials.
The growth! The relationships.
The Sex!
Fuck me.
Everything was just so Good.

I was so not expecting how much I fell in love with this book.
All the characters were so interesting and they meshed together in such a lovely way. Including the side characters.
The action was fascinating.
The plot and the behind the scenes sabotage was some engrossing, I literally couldn’t put it down.

My only complaints, we didn’t get as much of Leander as I would have liked, the author seems to have gotten a bit mixed up in the beginning with her acronyms because there’s 0 MM in this, and I wish there were just more pages.
None of that really effected my love for the book, but…
I want to see her astral grow.
I want to know how things go with her men.
I want to see her run the queendom.
Basically, I’m greedy, and I’m not ready to let these characters go yet. 🥺

*sighs*🫠
This was still just everything I wanted it to be, even with those minor grievances.
I will 1000% be checking out what else this author has available, and checking back to see what she comes out with next.
🥰😻This was just too damn good.

This is the fifth book in The Royal Celestials series but each book can be read as a standalone. I personally haven't read any of the other books and didn't feel like it made a difference. However, if you have read the other books, I feel like you may see a snippit of some previous characters. After enjoying this particular book so much, I am going to add the rest of these to my list for when I get caught up.

The Sun Queen is about Romina Hart. She grew up rough and her goal in life was to make a difference. She wanted to help others. Becoming a Watcher was supposed to do that for her. She worked hard and was finally where she wanted to be. Due to circumstances that I won't mention, she ends up in The Hunt. The trials that will determine the True Queen of Regulus. It is during this competition that we learn who Romina really is and I think she does too. It was really heartwarming to see her grow as a character.

Romina has help during her journey. We have Leander, Tyson, Stryker and we also have Imani. Our three men couldn't be more different if they tried. They all want to see Mina succeed though and that's what brings them all together. Imani quickly becomes a friend and someone who you will come to love just as much as Mina does. I was rooting for her all the way.

As always I don't want to give you any spoilers. I will tell you that going in, I had no idea what this book was really going to be about but I was captivated from the very beginning. The story was intense and had me needing to know what was going to happen next. It has everything you could possibly want. We of course have our romance. We have our hot sexy times, our romantic swoon worthy moments and some moments that make you want to scream at them. We have a lot of action and some twists in there. Definitely some suspense and moments that make you hold your chest to make sure your heart is still working right. The best thing about a standalone, we have an ending that couldn't be any more perfect. Great job by Anita with this one.

I really connected with Anita Maxwell's writing style and her female main character. She was strong but flawed and owned up to her mistakes in the end. If you love political intrigue, betrayal, and characters pushed to find their true selves, then you will love this high fantasy story.
Checked out with kindle unlimited, July 2023.

Really enjoyed this standalone RH. Refreshing world and mythology. The guys were great -- one "lawman" type, one "criminal mastermind" type, and a very sweet third guy. You can imagine the fun hijinx that ensue just from that combo, but the storyline is also very unique: Women must compete to become the next queen. Good read, unique world, wonderful characters -- I recommend it to anyone who loves RH with magic set in a different fantasy world. The Sun Queen is book 5 of the Royal Celestials series. This one revolves around the sign Leo.

Romina grew up on the streets, which left quite an impact on her life. She’s determined to help others and becoming a Watcher, was supposed to help her do that.

Romina finds herself unintentionally caught up in The Hunt trials, which will determine the True Queen of Regulus. Along the way she finds help from 3 completely different men. Stryker, her childhood friend and master criminal. Tyson, her Watcher Sargent. And Leander, the Head Councilman’s son.

I liked that the author broke the trials into sections. It made the story more enjoyable and exciting. The Sun Queen is full of action, suspense, and steamy goodness. I was sucked into the story from the very beginning.

This book got me hooked from the first page!
What a strong sassy MC. Not only that but the way her character develops throughout the book is just inspiring.
Anita has this amazing way of writing the POV's where I don't have to check back whose POV I am reading. She introduces the characters through the MC"s eyes, then is so consistent in the language and personality she slips into when writing them it is really well done.
The steam and tension build is just awesome.
All in all, if I could give this book more stars, I really would. This was a page turner, it was dramatic, it was sexy, the MC was just humble and brilliant. There was nothing I didn't love about this book!
Thank you

very good read! 4.5

I didn’t know what to expect when I picked this book to read, but I am pleased that I did.
Mina didn’t want to join the hunt or be queen, but soon it becomes all she wants, well that, and her men!
I really enjoyed the story and Mina’s relationship with Imani. There were fewer steamy moments than the books I’ve been reading, but I don’t think I missed them as the story was good enough to keep everything moving at the right pace!
There were moments that didn’t flow overly well, as well as others I thought could use a bit more attention, and for that I took half a star.

The Sun Queen is a wonderfully written fantasy that transports you to the country of Regulus where the search is on for the next Queen and representative of the God Leo. Originally part of a series set in a connected world this book stands alone with its epic adventure-driven storyline and strong, interesting characters.

Romina was determined to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a Watcher, even when her life took a detour and she spent her teenage years on the streets as a thief. However, when the citywide search for the next queen begins Romina knows she can’t let her nemesis take the throne and steps forward putting her dreams on hold. I loved Mina’s character; she is the perfect mix of strength, compassion and kickarse. This was a slow-burn reverse harem with a focus on the story, chemistry and relationships between the characters as they work together, at times under duress, to help Mina win the crown. That said the epilogue was pure steamy fire.

Leo blessed

I loved this book. The writing was descriptive and pulled you into the action. I enjoyed how it was broken up into the different parts of the Hunt. I wish the previous book in this world had come out on time (not by this author) but loved how this tied into that with a visit to the Seawall Queendom. I hope we get more of their story because I would love to know more about the present at the end.

Romina is thrust into the Hunt but it’s exactly where she needs to be. Tyson, Leander, and Stryker definitely have their work cut out for them. The storyline was awesome and it kept my full attention. Great writing. I would definitely recommend this book.

Sucked me right in

This was so very entertaining. A completely enjoyable read from beginning to end. There was never a dull moment in the story. I kinda wish there was a follow up book after this to see how and what she did while being Queen. But then again I don't, because this book ended on the perfect note

I selected this book because the main female character is a Black woman. I’m always looking for good paranormal romance that centers Black female characters. I also really enjoy reverse harem romance and good erotica. This book definitely delivered. In addition to great erotic scenes, the plot was top-notch. The storyline was inventive, eventful, interesting and suspenseful. It was a whole New World and I am tempted to read the other books in the series. (I realized that all the books in this series are written by different authors.) I will definitely read more books from this particular author.
