The Lost Corisis #2

He Said Never

Rate this book
From New York Times bestselling author Ruth Cardello comes another burning Corisi romance about family crises, dark secrets, and unforeseen love.

Riley doesn’t want her mom to know that she’s been seeing her newly discovered family, the Corisi clan. Riley’s biological father made her mother’s life hell, and even though he’s dead, her fear of anyone who shares his last name lives on.

After attending two funerals, Gavin’s father has decided Gavin needs a wife and children to be happy. Rather than inheriting his family’s company, Gavin now must earn his way back into his father’s good graces by producing a fiancée.

Everything with Riley would have gone easier if he had just lied to her about his meeting with her brother Dominic. The truth would have hurt her, and that was the last thing he wanted.

He never wanted a relationship, but when he is forced to choose between business or a future with her, he realizes he’ll choose her every time.

Gavin and Riley are the type of couple that I just adore in my romance books. Gavin was determined to not want anyone for anything series, too focused on being successful in business instead. While Riley was a cheerful woman always looking for the best in people. Their connection was made their differences work and I loved that so much. And the romance was still very evident even through the family drama that was happening with the Corisis side.

First Impressions
He Said Never was such a delicious read and I think I enjoyed this one way more than even the first and I had so much fun with that one as well. I was really intrigued by this one because we get the twin sister who is the heroine, she and her brother are the long-lost siblings of the infamous Dominic Corisi. I have really loved seeing Ruth Cardello write these extensions of some of my favorite books from this author. I do recommend reading these books in order though, I mean you don’t have to, but there is more of a back story that will help you understand why he acts and treats his family the way that he does. In this book, we get some more family dynamics but we also get such a sweet billionaire romance that was beautiful and endearing in every way. The hero is just everything that I want and more. I loved the whole take where it starts as a fling but very quickly it becomes so much more for him and seeing such a “only business and no pleasure” type of personality fall head over heels was a sight to see.

Summary
Our story begins with a misunderstanding in a coffee shop. Our heroine, Riley, has been stood up for the third time and she doesn’t understand it. She thought she had a connection and she isn’t mildly attractive so she wonders what could be so wrong with her and she takes her frustrations out on a handsome stranger who is just trying to get a cup of coffee, but there is an instant attraction and she never realized that they would live in the same building as each other or that how different they are from each other is actually what attracts them together. Our hero, Gavin, is struggling to keep their family business afloat. His father has lost his friends, and his mother was never in the picture but his father is changing and practically forced him out on leave because he believes his son “needs a wife” and he doesn’t want him back until he gets some hobbies and is open to being married. Gavin has never sought marriage and doesn’t understand the appeal. He knows what a bad marriage can do and has never personally seen a solid marriage. But then he and Riley hatch a plan together that will suit both of them. Riley needs someone to come with her to tell her mother the bad news that she has been building a relationship with Dominic and its something her mother practically forbade her to do. But she hates lying to her mother who has been the victim for years. And Gabe needs Riley to pose as his girlfriend, as he knows his father would approve of her as his wife. But neither Gabe nor Riley expected a fierce love match to form, and as Gabe starts to fall hard for Riley, he will have to decide what truly matters in life.

What I Loved
I had so much fun with this book from the romantic elements all the way to the family bonds that we see being built. I just had so much fun with everything that builds within the story. I really felt for Riley and I was so happy to get her story especially after the first book. I loved how she is more open to Dominic and isn’t afraid of him or against him like her twin is or her mother is. She understands why her mother is fearful, as she has lived in fear all of her life. But I truly loved the way that Riley is so open and loving with everyone she is around and it really adds a certain charm that just made her so much more desirable and a fun character to get behind. Then we have Gabe, who is so driven and passionate about his work that he has forgotten how to actually live his life. And this is where he starts to learn when he meets Riley. Who shows him what truly matters in life and we see such a personal journey that our hero goes on, and also in discovering the power of having someone to love and to come home to, someone to build a life with. We also have a side plot of a romance that I was so ready for. I absolutely adored seeing a love match made between Riley’s mother and Gabe’s father as neither of them have known romantic love or affection that was solid and true. And also for a fun note for those that have read Dominic’s book *sigh* he never stops being an alpha haha It was actually so funny seeing him learn that he needs to let loose of the control he likes to have. I understand why he has that control, and if you understand what he dealt with under his father you get why he acts the way he does. But you see how much he has changed and that people that love him are constructive in their criticism of how behavior should happen in a healthy way.

What I Struggled With
There wasn’t too much I struggled with, the pacing was a bit strange in the beginning of it, but once Riley and Gabe got together, I was on board all the way!!

Overall View
He Said Never is a brilliant romance that brings together a charming family, two opposites that end up being the epitome of the “Yin-Yang” theory, and a truly heart felt romance that I could get behind and cheer these characters on from beginning to end!

He Said Never by Ruth Cardello was all about falling in love against all odds. Riley is such a beautiful soul with a very colourful personality and amazing sense of humor. And Gavin would make you swoon so good. He is the kind of brooding, stubborn and charismatic man who doesn't want anything to do with love but his heart failed to follow instructions. It was a witty steamy billionaire romance and I enjoyed it!

Riley and Gavin met by accident in a coffee shop. And they were both at crossroads of their lives. Riley is tired of balancing lies and searching for her soul mate. And Gavin has been given an ultimatum by his father. To find a woman to spend his life with or lose their family business. Faking it can only take them so far.

I liked Riley so much. She has a dry sense of humor. I liked her quirky ways of thinking. I liked how she keeps it real and relatable. She is full of feels and emotions. And Gavin doesn't believe in love. He may come across a bit rude and arrogant and coldhearted but he actually cares deeply. He has an alpha confidence that's really attractive. Their verbal sparring was really entertaining and so was the chemistry. Overall this story was a good combination of sexy and swoony.

I reviewed an early copy voluntarily through Netgalley and Montlake.

Sweet, beautiful, romantic and enjoyable, I loved this book.

A wonderful love story with emotional moments and funny ones too, so much going on and never a dull moment.
You really can’t go wrong with one of Ruth’s books, and if it involves the Corisis that’s even better.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

He Said Never😢

This is only my second book by this author and the more I read of her books, the more I love them❣️And honestly, I think this book is better than the first one in this series, even though that one was good, this one is light-hearted, fluffy and sweet with some steam thrown in🔥

We met Riley in book one as Teagan’s best friend but also as the person Gian was trying to meet to find out if she could be related to one of his family members😊 When they discover their is a family connection, unfortunately Riley’s mother and twin brother aren’t as keen to get to know them. This story however, shows Riley getting to know them better but also her chance meeting with a man in a coffee shop by the name of Gavin😍

I really enjoyed this story, it was quick paced and romantic and I can’t tell you how many times I smiled throughout the story and had a laugh at all their antics🤩 I will definitely be reading more by this author in the future….I received an advanced copy via Netgalley and willingly leave my honest review❤️

I was looking forward to Riley's story ever since Gian found their extended family. And I loved her story, about her mum, her relationship with Dominic's family. I think it's upstanding of her to really get to know her father's family even after what he did to her and her family.

However, I don't really feel the attraction and chemistry between her and Gavin. Am I the only one? Their relationship just feels very platonic to me. I know at the beginning they started out as friends. Even then Gavin felt some kind of physical attraction to her. But I didn't feel it. Even once they started getting more serious. I was thinking maybe it's because of his character and what he experienced with his mother, that's why he's a bit rigid about relationships.

I still enjoyed it though. I definitely loved the familial aspect of the story and the fact that Gavin's father might find a companion after all.

Ruth Cardello was an unknown author for me. But a quick check on Goodreads certainly got me curious: almost all of Ruth’s books have a rating of four stars or higher. So, I had some high expectations of course.

And let’s just say that Ruth doesn’t disappoint. Even when I fall smack down in the middle of a series. He Said Never is the second book in the Lost Corisis series, but these are actually tied to the Legacy collection and the Corisis Billionaires series. However, even without the previous stories, you can easily dive in.

Riley is a great girl: sassy, funny and spontaneous. She sees the good in everyone and she trusts everyone. We see how she struggles with her conscience currently. Ever since she has learned about her extended family, she has been curious about her brother. But her mother doesn’t want her involved in the Loris is family Riley has contacted Dominic however and she has been meeting with several of her family members. Riley can’t imagine that her brother can not be trusted, like her mother says. But now she still has to convince her mother of that.

Gavin doesn’t trust easily. Ever since his mother walked out of him and his father, he has been wary of relations. This was amplified by his father, who raised him on his own. And now, after two recent deaths of close friends, his father wants him to find himself a fiancee, before handing over the family business to him. Although Gavin thinks, this is just a phase, he still wants to find a ‘no-strings-attached’ kind of girl to introduce to his father. And the girl who nearly knocks over his coffee, seems to fit the bill.

Riley isn’t easily offended. But the hot guy at the coffee shop? Well, he certainly knows how to push her buttons. Still, he seems to be searching for something. And Riley isn’t the type of girl to leave someone hanging. Totally opposites, but in need of each other, Riley and Gavin strike a bargain. But playing pretend starts to feel very real.

Find out how Riley and Gavin’s story will play out. Funny, cute and heartwarming. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more stories by Ruth. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

So excited for Riley’s story! After getting to know Riley in the previous book in this series, I was very interested to see what would happen with her. Riley has such an optimistic outlook towards life and what has happened over the years to not only her but her family. She takes every opportunity as experience, and when she finds out she has more siblings, she jumps at the chance to get to know them, whereas her brother and mother are not happy about it and extremely reserved on the topic. Feeling like she is living two lives, she has her life with her mother and her childhood neighborhood, but then also has a penthouse in the city from her new brother where she spends time with those siblings. Gavin has been very jaded in regard to love and a relationship, and when his father has a new outlook on life and demands he find love in order to take control of the family business, he is furious. When he meets Riley, he decides to proposition her to help fool his family, but Riley will have nothing to do with deceiving anyone, but also would appreciate his help in bridging the gap between her two lives and understanding her new brother and his financial status for her mother. I loved that these two were able to fall in love and Gavin gets to have the future that his father wanted him to finally have. I can’t wait to see who’s next in this sibling group!

This is my first book by this author, but I would happily read more. The writing was fantastic and I really liked the characters. The storyline hit all the right notes and developed nicely with moments of push and pull, but mostly it was an easy-to-read and enjoy plot line making me smile, swoon, and and kept me turning the pages. Gavin was so swoony and I loved Riley's spirit and strong sense of values.

I think if I had read more books in this world, this story would easily be a five star read for me. There are elements of this story that I have a feeling would be more endearing to me as a reader if I had full back story of the rest of the Corisi clan and Romanos mentioned. The cast of characters seemed to be quite colorful in their own rite, and there were times I felt like if I knew more about them, certain scenes would have more depth for me as a reader.

While this book can be read as a standalone, I think it's going to have more fan appeal for those that have read about this family before. The romance was solid and gave me all the tummy butterflies I need as a reader.

All that being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would happily recommend it to anyone. I plan to read more books from this series, starting from the beginning, because the world seems to be one I would enjoy.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance copy.

I've been wanting to pick up Ms.Cardello's work for quite some time now. As soon as i stumbled across the synopsis for this book it caught my eye and i knew i had to read it first! I enjoyed this story!

Right from their very first meeting, Riley and Gavin's journey pulled me in quickly! I really liked how these two were brought together, getting to feel many things with them, and how I wasn't sure how they'd tackle things in their lives. I enjoyed getting into The Lost Corisis world with these characters and getting to dig deeper with them as well.

With He Said Never, Ms.Cardello has created such a good read that'll be quick to grab your attention and keep it! I am so looking forward to picking up more of her books especially the first book in The Lost Corisis world, He Said Always!

I loved this. From the very beginning I could feel the love within this book. Riley is such an amazing character and her Hope and positivity really draw people in. I loved how she touched all the lives of the brides she helped and how, even though she didn’t have much herself she always found a way to help those less fortunate.
Gavin is a great character too, his heart is there from the start and I love how he learns who he really is throughout this book. I loved reading the scenes with his dad and the banter they developed. Such a wonderful relationship built from love and respect. Riley’s mom Farra is an amazing character and I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of her but I’m sure her life has taken a turn for the better, no more fear just love and happiness.

Another great book in this series I can’t wait to see who’s next.

Gavin and Riley are your perfect enemies to lovers couples that have to find themselves firstly in a new world for each one of them where trust and love comes with time and hard work.
I loved how the author is picturing both characters so real and honest and open. Just like in real life, nobody can be perfect and many times opposite attracts.
Loved to met old couples from previous books and I’m looking forward to read the next ones as some secondary characters really draw my attention in He said Never.

Great Reluctant Romance!

Riley and Gavin have a untraditional “meet cute” and it is a roller coaster ride from there. With skepticism and reluctance, Gavin gets more and more involved with Riley despite the interference of her new-found brother, Dominic.

This book is a well paced love story. You cannot help but fall in love right along with Gavin and Riley. And I loved how Gavin thaws little by little with Riley.

This books seems way less complicated than previous books as you learn all the side characters and embrace them as well.

Really loved it!

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the second book in the series, but actually links closely to many of the earlier Corisi series' of books. I Would recommend that you at the very least read the first in this series, before you read this, or I do think you will moss out on some of the important back story.

Riley cannot help but be intrigued when she finds that she has living relatives. They may be on her evil father's side, but surely they cannot be like him. He was a terrible man, who so intimidated her mother that she has no trust for the Corisi family at all. So walking a thin line, she is grateful that she meets Gavin, and finds a man who will listen and support. We know that there are some other issues in play - but cannot deny that Gavin realises that his feelings for Riley are not just for show.

I think that this is a really engaging romance, which tests the limits of what someone will do for family, and in spite of family. As Riley wants a connection, Gavin has always rejected them. Luckily we know that this talented author will deliver just what we want, but not always in the way we expect it!

Riley has a very complicated family situation she is trying to navigate without hurting anyone. Gavin has been issued an ultimatum by his Father. When the 2 meet sparks fly. This is a romance with a predictable ending but I still enjoyed the book. Perfect for a quiet afternoon, maybe on the beach. Likable characters for the most part, some who start out kind of rough but redeem themselves in the end. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Despite the experience of her mother there is nothing more that Riley would like is to find the man she wants to spend her life with, but she seems to have a knack with choosing frogs. A chance encounter with Gavin may not only allow her to merge the two families she finds herself part of but give her the life that she was beginning to think she would never have,

Gavin isn’t looking for love or a relationship, but he finds himself in a predicament when his father gives him an ultimatum if he wants to take over the family business. What he and Riley had was supposed to be an arrangement, so he was unprepared when it became so much more.

Not only do Riley and Gavin have very different lifestyles but they have very different views on their future as well however their hearts had different ideas and I enjoyed watching their romance unfold.

M/F Romance
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Riley wants to find love. She knows that life can be harsh and unforgiving, but she chooses to see the love in life. When she's been stood up again, she thinks maybe it's just not out there for her. As she's leaving the coffee shop, she has a strange encounter where she's propositioned... Not the type of romance she was thinking.

Gavin isn't one to admit defeat, but with his dad's new found kick on life, Gavin is forced to look for something he doesn't believe in. He sees Riley in the shop and thinks to himself, "hm, I could trick my family.. she'll do". What he doesn't expect is to find out that Riley is much more than he thought.

These two were on very different paths. One trying to bridge a gaping hole in her family, the other trying to outwit his family. One looking for love, the other running from it. But, somehow, they allow the other to see what's possible... what might be.

I really enjoyed watching these two figure it out. It was funny, smart and I really enjoyed the romance.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
Riley and Gavin meet in a coffee shop where Riley has been stood up yet again. Why can't she find a guy that will actually meet her when he says he will?
Gavin doesn't want a relationship but his father thinks he needs a fiancee to run the family company. When he meets Riley, there is something about her that draws him to her. He doesn't know what it is but he wants to be around her. The more time they spend together the closer they become and feelings begin to grow.
Can they make a relationship work? Will her brother try to ruin things before they really begin? Will Gavin's father approve of Riley?
I liked the first story but I liked this one more. Here you have Riley looking for love and Gavin never wanting it and together they find each other. Something neither of them thought was possible. This story is great with a love that was almost built on trust, a family built on friendship and love, and a story to read over and over that will leave you feeling happy that you read it. I hope you give this one a chance and you enjoy it too.

Ruth has a way of making me fall in love with her writing over and over again with each book! Her writing is so unique and each book it feel like I’m reading her for the first time!

He Said Never is a very original story! Yes some points of the plot are your typical enemies to lovers but so much of it was very differently executed! Riley and Gavin may seem the same but Riley is new to his world and is trying to find her place! After some unexpected run ins these two foes decide maybe friendship can be attainable! As they get to truly know one another their bond morphs into something more but both have to decide if they can fight for what is right!

I loved Riley’s openness to the world! She has such an amazing view of people and the world around her! So open to the possibilities of love and life! But she is also unsure of herself and some of the people around her! Gavin was a good balance to her outlook and even though he is more cynical than she together they help each other to see things in a different and better light!

I loved how they built one another up to be better and stronger! I also really REALLY loved seeing some of my fave characters from past books! I look forward to what comes next and can’t wait to see what else is in store for this family!

I absolutely love this series, this book is one of my favourites.
Riley and Gavin are so opposite, from different backgrounds and families. Riley has just discovered her unknown family from her abusive father’s side. Suddenly she has wealth but her loving mother is afraid to return to that life. Gavin has wealth but never had a loving family. Together they try to mesh their lives and find ‘the real deal’.
Riley’s rich & powerful brother Dominic Corisi is controlling, will Riley & Gavin stand up to him and find love.
Read it, it’s a lovely story.

Gavin isn't one to admit defeat, but with his dad's newfound kick on life, Gavin is forced to look for something he doesn't believe in. He sees Riley in the shop and thinks to himself, "Hmm, I could trick my family... she'll do." What he doesn't expect is to find out that Riley is much more than he thought.

These two were on very different paths. One trying to bridge a gaping hole in her family, the other trying to outwit his family. One looking for love, the other running from it. But somehow, they allow the other to see what's possible... what might be.

I really enjoyed watching these two figure it out. It was funny, smart, and I really enjoyed the romance.

This is the second book in the series, but actually links closely to many of the earlier Corisi series of books. I would recommend that you, at the very least, read the first in this series before you read this, or I do think you will miss out on some of the important back story.

We know that there are some other issues in play, but cannot deny that Gavin realises that his feelings for Riley are not just for show.

I think that this is a really engaging romance, which tests the limits of what someone will do for family, and in spite of family. As Riley wants a connection, Gavin has always rejected them. Luckily, we know that this talented author will deliver just what we want, but not always in the way we expect it!

Never say never

This is the second book in the Lost Corisi’s which is also follows on from a previous Corisi series. It would really be helpful if you’ve read all the previous books in both series so that you have a better understanding of the dynamics of this very large and complex family.

This follows the newly discovered sister of renowned ruthless business mogul, Dominic Corisi. Riley is the lost, or rather hidden, daughter of Dominic’s abusive father Antonio Corisi. Along with her twin brother Kal, Riley’s identity was kept secret by her disabled mother Fara in fear of Antonio’s wrath.

Only recently has the identity of her father come to light, much to the dismay of her mother. Riley is torn between wanting to have a relationship with her newly found brother, Dominic and her beloved mother. She doesn’t want to upset her mum, but she also wants to get to know her new family.

Getting to know Dominic however comes at some cost though… keeping her relationship with him a secret from her mum and also his intense need to protect his sister. As much as loves his almost possessive sibling affection towards her, it borders on interfering… oh heck, it doesn’t just border it… it tramples all over it!

Sure, he’s given her everything she could ever want… security, a plush penthouse apartment, a personal driver etc, etc. But Dominic doesn’t understand subtle. He’s intense and dominating. Just how far is he willing to go to keep his sister safe?

After being stood up for a third time, Riley is starting to wonder if she will ever be able to find herself a man. They all appear interested but then don’t show. Strange.

When she meets a gorgeously hot man in a coffee shop she thinks his initial comments show some interest, but then his less than flirtatious comments extinguish those hopes almost completely.

Gavin is a self confessed bachelor… he lives the billionaire lifestyle and has everything he think he could want.

Unfortunately his father wants him to have more… more being a wife and family and he gives Gavin an ultimatum. Get engaged or lose his position in his fathers company. Concerned that his father is going mad he rebuffs the ultimatum and continues to live the single life… but there’s one problem. He cannot get the girl he met in the coffee shop out of his head.

Thinking maybe he could ask the beautiful Riley to pose as his intended fiancée he tries to rebuild the bridges he burned. Luckily Riley is one of the sweetest, most positively optimistic people he’s ever met. As you can probably imagine their friendship blossoms into much more, even though Gavin is still trying to convince himself that he’s not a relationship person.

Together, they are electric and they soon start thinking about a future together… but will Dominic be able to stop his overprotective interfering ways and allow Gavin to take the lead?

Really enjoyed this story, even though it was obvious that this couple was destined to be together, they are both fighting their demons - Gavin’s experience of commitment is sadly hindered by the mother that left him as soon as Gavin’s father paid her enough money… and Riley is scared that men with money will end up hurting her. They are both full of promise but struggling to trust.

I really like this family and all the relationships that develop. It’s complicated and a little confusing sometimes, where everyone fits in… but once you get it in your head… everything starts to fall into place.

Can’t wait for Karl’s story next. Will he forgive Dominic for his fathers treatment of his mother? And who will he end up with?

What an emotional journey!

Gavin starts out absolutely sure of himself, who he is, and what he wants in life. Just like his father, until recently when dear old dad started acting a lot more sentimental and is now requiring that Gavin produce a fiancée before he can take over the company. Determined not to let his dad dictate his life, Gavin considers asking someone to pose as his fiancée and when he sees Riley in the coffee shop, he thinks he might have found his candidate.

Riley has been stood up - again - and is in no mood for the fickle attentions of unreliable men. That's the version of her that Gavin meets, and it's clear neither of them is what the other needs. But that doesn't seem to matter when their paths cross again.

I loved how sure Gavin was, how he clung to the word "never" like a lifeline, until he found himself, quite literally against his will, falling in love and finding his person. The part I loved most in this story was how there was never an ounce of miscommunication - these two were brutally honest with each other right from the start and not afraid to call each other out along every step of the way. Except for a discussion he had with her brother, that is.

I am totally in love with the entire Romano side of the Corisi/Romano extended family, and I felt right at home when the whole fam-damily gathered around the table. The strength of these stories is in the bedrock of family values that guide each of the characters along their journeys.

Gavin and Riley enjoy a wondrously romantic journey to their HEA and I loved every bit of it. The secondary romance was a sweet surprise, bringing happiness on so many different levels. The heartwarming romantic gesture at the end was sublime, making all Riley's dreams come true.

I savored every moment, every paragraph, every exquisite scene in this amazing book. Each one of these interconnected stories reveals more growth in the expanding Corisi family; making each one better than the last only because of all the cumulative happiness. If you know who Dominic Corisi is, then you owe it to yourself to read this book. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
