Ever since Amend moved to Sundays-only, a lot of the depth of the characters & stories has (inevitably) been lost. I miss the more complex interactions. I'll always love FoxTrot, but you'd absolutely have to start with his older material that was written on a daily basis to find the characters engaging.

Other than four or five strips in this book you could have convinced me that these were written by a guest author. That's not to imply any kind of decline in quality per say. The comics are funny, they're just very 'safe' and very in the vain of what we've seen before from these characters. A few of the punchlines are even reused from older strips even if tweaked slightly (hey we're getting paid by the bag not by the hour to rake leaves).

The illustration on Jane Need Help? actually annoyed me quite a bit because if you know anything about climbing ropes you would have expected Morton to have a foot wrapped in the rope. That sort of detail is the thing that Amend normally gets right.

That said Snow Blindness harkened back to the old Calvin and Hobbes snowman comics. So even if it was retrodden ground it was holy ground we were rewalking as far as I'm concerned. There were a few other clever comics in this one but overall it's a forgettable book. Hopefully we'll get an anthology of the Sunday-only strips soon.

A collection of comics featuring the Fox family's daily antics all throughout the year.

There are some absolute all-time best FoxTrot comics in this collection. I would recommend getting 2 copies, 1 to cut up and put up in the home and/or work place, and 1 to keep to read. This made me laugh out loud so many times.

I own and have read every previous book/collection with these characters, and I am thrilled to add this one to my shelf. Love the characters, love the scenarios and situations, and laughed out loud at many of the strips in this collection.

Though not as funny as the past few collections, there are still plenty of great gags and punchlines Amend's got in this new FoxTrot collection with the characters and hijinks its audience has come to love.

I’ll always have a soft spot for Fox Trot. It’s nothing earth-shattering, and part of me wishes Amend would go back to dailies so he could do pop-culture story arcs again, but it’s still comforting for what it is.

I grew up reading FoxTrot and it's still as funny as ever. Out of all the kids, Jason is the craziest and smartest,
But sometimes, the strip can be really deep. In other words, if science and math aren't your strongest subjects, then you're not going to get the joke behind some of the strips.

Sunday only foxtrot is so boring. Same jokes over and over, at least with daily you had buildup and payoff.

Deliciously FoxTrot by Bill Amend (Andrews McMeel Publishing 2021) (741.5973) (3713).

Author and cartoonist Bill Amend’s comic strip FoxTrot never fails to delight. Though I’ve been a follower and fan of FoxTrot for years from reading this strip in my newspaper’s funny pages, I did not realize that Amend had reduced this to a Sunday-only comic until I paid attention to this volume.

As far as I’m concerned, Bill Amend is entitled to all the time off from work that he can afford.

Like the other book collections in this series, Deliciously FoxTrot tickles my funny bone.

I can’t wait for the next installment.

My rating: 7/10, finished 1/6/23 (3713).

[Re-read Deliciously FoxTrot (9/11/25)]:

I didn’t realize that I had read this until I started to write a review. I was in a library with a few minutes to kill, and I picked this up. It was still funny the second time around.

My rating: 7/10, finished 9/11/25 (3713).
