Terrific start to the new Montana Mavericks series. Vanessa was born and raised in Bronco. She went to college in Billings and moved there after graduation, vowing that she would never live in Bronco again. After her high school boyfriend betrayed her twice, and the school mean girls made her life miserable, Van looked forward to happier times far from those memories. Unfortunately, her love life didn't improve, leaving her gun-shy when it came to relationships. On New Year's Eve, while in Bronco visiting her family, she indulged in a one-night-stand with Jameson, with the understanding it would never be repeated or spoken of again.

Jameson was also born and raised in Bronco. He and his family have a successful ranch, and he has no plans to leave Bronco. One of the popular kids during high school and after, Jameson had a reputation as a player for a long time. After a failed marriage, Jameson put his player days behind him. On New Year's Eve, he felt a little lonely with no one to kiss the New Year in with. Then he met Vanessa, and the night improved immensely. Though he accepted her conditions, he came to regret it because he couldn't forget her.

Fast forward to the summer. Van finds herself back in Bronco, teaching science to young teens at a summer program. She spends a lot of time looking over her shoulder, worrying about seeing Jameson again. When she does, he makes it clear that he'd like to see her again. Van shuts him down hard because she refuses to risk her heart on anyone again. Finally, after thinking about it, she agrees to a summer fling, IF and ONLY IF they keep it secret. Van doesn't want to deal with her family getting their hopes up about marrying a local boy and moving home. Initially reluctant to accept her conditions, Jameson eventually agrees, hoping to use the time to convince her that he's worth the risk.

I liked both Jameson and Vanessa. Jameson is an all-around nice guy who gave up his player ways long ago. He has a great relationship with his family, especially with his little sister, Charity, and hers with him. I loved that Vanessa was an unusual heroine for a romance. She is a glasses-wearing, curvy, slightly geeky science teacher. Van has a fantastic relationship with her Young Adventurers, and their love and respect for her are evident. I loved how she encouraged them to work for changes in the Miss Bronco contest and how they repaid her by secretly writing her in as a contestant. Her shock when she was named the winner was hilarious. Her issues made her feel that she wasn't up to the task, but the support she received from Jameson and Charity proved otherwise.

I loved seeing the relationship develop between Jameson and Vanessa. Jameson was all in from the beginning. He wanted to see where the attraction between them would go because he felt she was special. Van thoroughly enjoyed their time together but flat-out refused to consider taking it public or continuing past the end of summer. Van frustrated me on several occasions because she allowed the events from high school to run her life a decade later. I felt that Jameson showed extraordinary patience as he tried to show Van that she could trust him not to hurt her. Van panicked when she realized she was falling for him anyway and pulled away, desperate to protect herself. I ached for both of them, as Jameson saw his hope for the future disappear and Van want what she was too scared to reach for. I loved seeing Jameson go to Winona for advice. Meanwhile, Van's friend Callie has some advice for her that opens Van's eyes. I loved the ending, with Van stepping way out of her comfort zone to show Jameson how she feels.

I thought the story was cute. The characters are likable and believable. While this book is #1 in the series, there were quite a few background characters who were described with “tying up loose ends” information. It made it seem like I should already know who these people are and would want to know this updated information. I would be interested to read further in the series.

I absolutely loved the first book in this series "Montana Mavericks: The Real Cowboys of Bronco Heights." Vanessa Cruise has too much heartache in her past, and Jameson John is the cowboy every woman should know. I am not giving any plot secrets away because the whole story flows nicely and is a great read. I loved their story.

A wonderful start to a new series of Montana Mavericks. Christine Rimmer brings the story of Bronco native Vanessa (Van) Cruise to life with an introduction to seduction on New Years Eve then revisits that first night of unforgettable meeting of Van & Jameson John come summer when Van comes back home to teach a summer program at Happy Hearts animal sanctuary. Her students secretly plan to tip the voting and get the rules changed in their favor and surprise Van by getting her voted in by write in votes for Miss Bronco. Jameson’s sister Charity is the runner up but the gracious Girl that she is, takes Van under her wings to walk her through the summer process and Brother Jameson is right there with her. Jameson and Vans chemistry is unmistakable but although Van swears a secret summer affair due to past failures have hurt her deeply and the mean girls of Bronco bullied her beyond belief, she cannot move past the self denial of happiness. Can she ever let her past go and can Jameson keep his love for her a secret. Will they go separate ways at summers end or can she get past her horrible past. This is a must read to see how a painful past can either conquer or hold a person back. Great read. Christine continues to weave other characters in also and leave you wanting more and more!

Loved this book for was a fast read and love books about small towns. For it makes me want to move there and really interact with the characters. I love the way Jameson is tough yet accommodating Van with what she needs in a relationship even though he wants it to be more. He is very patient with her and loves her and more men should take a lesson that good things come to those who wait. Love the way the sparks fly in this story and definitely a fast paced story where before you know it after picking it up you finished with it. Smooth story line and great characters as well as funny bit’s and pieces that make the town more realistic and the author is great with the placement of the character’s where everyone has a strong storyline made me want to reach in the book and slap certain ones toward the end for their stupidity. Love this author and definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

Reviewed at Happily Ever After Romance

The Rancher’s Summer Secret starts off the multi-author series, Montana Mavericks: The Real Cowboys of Bronco Heights with a poignant romance between one man who has finally found his “one” in a woman who is determined to never, ever be hurt or humiliated by love again in her lifetime, which means she doesn’t do commitment – at all. I loved Jameson and Vanessa together, yet I also have to admit to being more frustrated by Vanessa’s logic than any other character I can recall reading about recently. I understood that her reasons need to make sense to only her but the love of her life was standing right in front of her practically begging for her love and still she held on to a painfilled past for so very long.

Vanessa has a very emotionally painful past in her hometown of Bronco. Young love went bad with betrayal, high school “mean girls” doing what only the nasties can do best which is destroy confidence and happiness for anyone not in their circle, and cruelty as only the young can dish out – those are things that Van doesn’t want to remember or to even be in the same town for longer than short family visits. She’s a teacher in nearby Billings, yet even there heartache has found its way to her doorstep time and time again. She has reached the point emotionally that she isn’t even trying for happiness or love anymore. At the moment could be her new motto, which is exactly what she considered New Year’s Eve with Jameson… until she couldn’t forget The Night That Never Happened. Summer became a second chance to reconnect with Jameson… on her terms.

I adored Jameson, hands down he is my favorite in The Rancher’s Summer Secret for several reasons. I think, most importantly though it was his patience with Vanessa that went above and beyond to nearly a candidate for sainthood that won my heart so completely. He’s been hurt in the past as well, yet he (like most of us) has learned to put it behind him and still has hope for the future. He’s sexy as sin, a compassionate man, a great big brother, and a man any woman would be proud to have by her side for a lifetime. A lesson that will take Vanessa way too long, in my opinion, to finally get.

I had such fun with the secondary characters I’ve met so far. Some will find their own happy ever after at some point in the series, others will always be the secondary characters that often make a story or series believable by their dependability in always staying true to form. I loved Vanessa’s great-grandmother and I hope we see more of her throughout the series – the world needs her kind of wisdom with a touch of “otherness”.

In all, I had fun with The Rancher’s Summer Secret and I’m definitely looking forward to discovering what comes next for the residents of Bronco.

I own a Kindle edition of this title.

This was another great book by Christine Rimmer! I love the Montana Mavericks Series and her latest contribution to this series was one of the best.

This book takes place in Bronco Heights, Montana where Vanessa and Jameson were both born and raised. Vanessa Cruise is a high school teacher and Jameson John is a rich and handsome rancher who still lives in Bronco. Van and Jameson reconnect in a bar on New Year's Eve and decide to have a "One Night Stand"! Jameson knows Vanessa's brother and they all attended the same high school. Vanessa makes Jameson promise to not tell anybody about their one night together because she doesn't want her family to know and get their hopes up that she might move back to Bronco.

Vanessa has vowed to never move back home because of the heartache cruelty she encountered when in high school. A twice broken heart and betrayal by a childhood friend she adored and trusted and mean girls thrown into the mix is not something she wants to remember. She has lost trust and faith in happily forever after and that is just another heartbreak for her because she wants someone special to share share her life with, someone with whom she can have a family with but she is afraid of taking risks with her heart again. She just wants to have her one night with Jameson and return to Billings and the life she has made for herself there. That night proves to be magical for both of them.

Months later Vanessa finds herself back in Bronco for the summer teaching early teens at a Young Adventurer's Day Camp. Vanessa loves and misses her home town and her family but is a little apprehensive about running into Jameson again. She does of course, and the undeniable attraction is as strong as ever!

If you like to read books that feature small towns where everybody knows everybody, romance and heartaches abound, where there is shared history both good and bad as well as families and friends who are supportive and want only what's best for you, this is the book for you!

I really recommend you give this wonderful story a read. I suspect you will enjoy it as much as I did!

Vanessa Cruise has promised herself never to come home for more than visits to family with her family. On her visit for the Christmas holiday, she goes to a local bar, looking for a one night stand. Jamseson John is ready to find someone to spend New Year’s Eve with willing woman that just may lead somewhere. When he sits down next to Vanessa they begin to talk. Jameson and Vanessa make a deal that this will be a one night stand and they’ll follow the rules that they’ve agreed upon. Only problem is neither can forget that New Year’s Eve of passion. When Vanessa comes home for the summer, they’ll try to keep to their promise. Jameson is determined to change her mind. She wants another affair just for the summer. The Rancher’s Secret Summer just may be how Jameson changes Vanessa’s mind.

Christine Rimmer kicks off the new Montana Mavericks series with the first book in the Real Cowboys of Bronco Heights called The Rancher’s Secret Summer. A young woman traumatized in high school and with several failed relationships is determined not to move back to her hometown of Bronco Heights. The one night stand between local rancher and on New Year’s Eve may just be what he’s looking for. Passion, love fear and keeping secrets lead to this couple having tried to find their way through their feelings for her past and for each other as they get to know each other better after rekindling their one night stand. Christine Rimmer writes a heartfelt, passionate story of a man with patience a scared woman and how love just may bring them together. The Rancher’s Secret Summer shows that love and trust may just over come the fear of the past. A woman is shown that the town she held responsible for her past treatment just may bring her back home for The Rancher’s Secret Summer. Another great Montana Maverick series and story by a favorite author whose books I just can’t put down and a great start to the next group of Montana Mavericks books and the beginning of the Real Cowboys of Bronco Heights. The Rancher’s Secret Summer is a wonderful read that will start you on a great series or keep you coming back again and again for this great book by Christine Rimmer

A great way to start a new Montana Maverick series! Welcome back to Broncos. Vanessa and Jameson had a one night stand on New Years and she made him promise that they would never acknowledge it again, when she came to visit from Billings, she didn't want him to make contact with her and even though he didn't like it, he agreed. Fast forward to the summer and Van is "home" working with Daphne at Happy Hearts Animal Sanctuary using her science degree at a summer camp for the kids. So far she hasn't run into Jameson and that was ok with her. Fourth of July comes around and the Miss Broncos contest is happening and they have changed the rules a little and to her surprise, Van is chosen the winner and she wasn't even in the contest! The runner up is none other than Jameson's sister Charity and she takes Van under her wing and they do all of the duties that winning the title holds. But this means she is around Jameson and the attraction and desire is as strong as ever. Well, they can not hold back for long and give in to that passion but Van wants to keep it a secret, doesn't want anyone to know. While it upsets Jameson a little, he just wants to be with her for as long as she is in town so he agrees. Van has her reasons and they are very valid. But as the days, weeks fly by, the more time they spend together, the deeper they fall for each other even though neither one will admit it. This story is not only a love story, it's about letting go of your fears, learning to trust that you can find the one to love you for yourself, finding friends too that will stand by you as well. Family that will be there as well, even a newly found Great Grandmother!

A terrific start to a new series of Montana Mavericks and a great way to bring a previous story back into the reader’s life. Ms. Rimmer brings the story of Bronco hometown girl Vanessa (Van to her family and friends) Cruise to life with a chance encounter on New Year’s Eve then brings that forbidden first night between Van and Jameson John back to life when they run into one another the following summer. Van has come back to Bronco to teach a summer program at the local Happy Hearts animal sanctuary. Vanessa’s students take matters into their own hands and rig the voting and change the rules in order to get Van voted in by write in votes for Miss Bronco. The runner-up takes her under her wings and walks her through the process and gets her ready for the competition. It just so happens that the runner-up is Jameson’s sister. Jameson and Van get to spend a lot of time together and their chemistry did not diminish over the past several months. Vanessa is determined to keep the relationship a secret and Jameson isn’t sure he can keep his love for her under wraps. Van is still dealing with earlier traumas from the mean girls of Bronco but can she move past this painful past and see the love Jameson has for her or will they go their separate ways at the end of summer? This is a great story and I felt it deep down and cried more than a few tears. Ms. Rimmer continues to bring wonderful characters to life with emotional stories and this one was no exception. Fantastic Read!

Christine Rimmer never disappoints! When you read this book you will see why Christine is often chosen as the author to kick off a brand new Montana Mavericks series. Vanessa Cruise is another one of Christine's strong heroines. Vanessa is home for the summer and runs into Jameson John again after their "Night That Never Happened" on New Years Eve. Vanessa came to teach science for the summer at her future SIL's summer camp. There's a big Red White and Blue celebration in Bronco where they meet again. Unknown to Vanessa, her students have convinced people to vote for Vanessa as Miss Bronco and she wins even though she never entered the contest. This caused quite a stir as Charity, Jameson's little sister, was expected to be the winner. Charity came in second to Vanessa, and great sport that she is, agrees to help her with the role of Miss Bronco. This gives Jameson and Vanessa the chance to get back together as neither of them have forgotten the "Night That Never Happened". Jameson wants a permanent relationship and Vanessa wants a temporary arrangement due to all the disappointments in love that she has suffered. They settle on the temporary arrangement but fate and Vanessa's great grandmother Winona Cobbs have different plans!! You will need to read for yourself to see how they reach their HEA.

Being aware of Jameson John since high school, Vanessa, 'Van' Cruise is in Bronco Heights for New Year's Eve and sees him in a bar. After way too much drama in high school, when she leaves for college, Van is emphatic that she will never live in Bronco Heights again. A school teacher, she loves her job, her new town, and her lifestyle. Unfortunately her family still lives in Bronco Heights, so she has that connection to the town!

Jameson was a player in high school, and has kept that moniker for many years...until now. He realizes he wants to think about settling down. When he sees Van sitting at the bar on New Year's Eve, he decides to have a chat. She's looking for a no attachments good time for the night. He's not averse to that but she insists this will be a one time thing. He agrees and a good time is had by all.

Fast forward to summer when Van is in town and substitute teaching in Bronco Heights. They both have been thinking of their one night together. When they decide on a more extended time together, they're not looking for forever. Will forever find them?

I love this iteration of the Montana Mavericks series. Ms. Rimmer writes relatable books with current issues front and center. Can't wait for the next book in the series!

Wow what an amazing start to the new Montana Mavericks series. I loved every second of the hurdles they overcame, their individual growth and their truly beautiful love story . work hard at winning her over. These two were a totally perfect match.I
loved the characters and the plot. The characters are very likable, fun and interesting . Vanessa ( Van ) makes Jameson work hard at winning her over. I felt so bad for him. While i very much miss the Bravos i think this is going to be a great series and
I can't wait to read her next book.

The newest Montana Mavericks line, Bronco Heights, is an awesome story with a more non-traditional heroine!! I love the fact that Van is described as a curvy brunette and is a science teacher more comfortable to be in the background than the foreground. Her "night that never happened" is her step into freeing herself and moving on. The relationship, or hidden relationship, she develops with resident Bronco Heights Hunky Cowboy, Jameson John, is a fun read into how they both need to work out issue before they can get their HEA. Christine Rimmer delivers again this time hitting a new high by bringing in the non-traditional heroine and putting her into situations where it shows every young girl that if you only put your mind to something, you can do it!! WAY TO GO, CHRISTINE!!

The Rancher's Summer Secret by Christine Rimmer is wonderful, romantic, summer read!!! After fleeing from high school heartbreak and humiliation, Vanessa Cruise has finally returned to her hometown of Bronco, Montana to teach for the summer. Jameson John is a successful rancher and Bronco native recovering from a failed marriage. Vanessa finds this delicious cowboy irresistible. Can Jameson convince Vanessa to take another chance on love?
I just love Jameson and Vanessa! Vanessa is struggling against her heart and her past. She longs to be with Jameson but is afraid to risk it all again. Jameson is ready for a real life love but can he get past Vanessa's defenses? Christine Rimmer writes captivating, complex, love stories that are impossible to put down.

Vanessa left Bronco after graduating high school and vowed never to move back. Jameson lives in Bronco and is there to stay. They spent a hot New Year's Eve together and Vanessa was adamant that it would be their only night together. So she was surprised on two counts when summer came. One, she agreed to move back to Bronco for the summer to work at Happy Hearts Animal Sanctuary. Two, she and Jameson picked up where they left off on New Year's Eve, although Van insisted they remain a secret. What follows is a fun-filled summer, including a surprise at the Miss Bronco contest. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in the series. Well done, Ms. Rimmer!

The night that never happened! Well it happens again because fate if fickle, at least in Mrs.Rimmers imagination!! You have to love her imagination and use yours to get into her books!! I use mine and hate it when it’s over… it’s my get away from my life and enjoy someone else’s; at least in my mind!
This book is nothing short of amazing!! It’s the fist of many I can’t wait to get into!! Jameson and Vanessa are the ultimate couple! Will he change her mind and open up to him? What about Billings? Would she really be happy as a Ranchers wife and give up her career?? These and more questions are answered in this light hearted story!!

Vanessa Cruise, Evan Cruise's sister, is in Bronco Heights for the New Year. At the same party, is Jameson John, and they hook up for one night, and in Vanessa's words, The Night That Never Was. But Vanessa is back in the summer, doing a science camp for tweens and early teens, and surprisingly, finds herself elected Miss Bronco! So along with her duties with that, Jameson is on the scene, but Vanessa feels that too many times of love doing her wrong means never taking a chance again. But her great grandmother Winnie, discovered in the Montana Maverick's book that was Evan's story, knows all and sees more than Vanessa thinks.

A new series! Christine Rimmer's sample of the Real Cowboys of Bronco Heights is a splendid introduction! Jameson is everything you could want in a man. It is too bad his past as a love 'em and leave 'em player is sincerely problematic for school teacher Vanessa. Even though her type has always been the bad boy player, her lates heartbreak came from a nice guy - a safe choice. It is a shame neither of them thought they had any chemistry. Chemistry is not a problem for Jameson and Vaness! She must face her problem and Jameson must be patient with her until she opens her mind and her heart.

Vanessa grew up pour and though she had found her true love as a child. He wasnt. She gave him multiple chances in which he used her and then walked away. She learns from those mistakes so well she made a promise never to move back to her hometown of Bronco and never to fall in love. She meets Jameson and has a one-night stand on New Year. One that both can seem to forget. He wants a relationship. Can a small town and extended family help this two find their forever? You'll have to read to find out.

Was given this ARC from Christine Rimmer for an open honest review.

Loved this new book by Christine Rimmer. She weaves her stories around the characters and towns so you always feel invested in the outcome. Vanessa left Bronco as soon as she could after her boyfriend cheated and his new girlfriend and friends abused and harassed her. On a holiday visit she has a one night stand with Jameson and when she returns to teach for the summer, they rekindle their relationship. But even though, Jameson would like more, she will not allow him to tell anyone. Read to find out all the details. I did receive this book as part of the review crew.

Jameson John has a problem. Vanessa Cruise doesn't seem to think so. They have an agreement about the summer, but, its not the same in each of their minds. They compromised just to stay near each other, but both have ultimate goals, neither the same. One on a visit to her old hometown, but not home - the other a hometown resident. A big hurdle in the way, a roadblock in place to one ultimate goal - seemingly too much.
Come to Bronco and enjoy a wonderful story about love, loss compromise and love.

Van and Jameson have a great love story, the problem is that Van doesn't want to tell anyone and Jameson goes along with that plan admittedly with the thought that he will ultimately be able to change her mind. My heart broke for the story of the young Vanessa and how the "mean girls" treated her. Awful! She is stronger than she realizes and their happily ever after is ultimately the best part of the hidden romance. A great story by Christine Rimmer, and I have already ordered the next book in the series.

I really enjoyed this first book in the new Montana Maverick series.

Vanessa is back in Bronco for the summer. After past relationships went south, she vows to shy away from commitment. Jameson and Vanessa have a summer fling, to which they agree will be kept secret from everyone.
Jameson longs for more than a summer fling with Vanessa, but he knows Vanessa will be hard to sway otherwise. He hopes by summers end, he can persuade her to something more permanent than just their temporary agreement.
Grab this latest book from Christine Rimmer to find out how their summer ends.

Vanessa had a rough childhood and past in Bronco and has moved on to live in Billings. She comes home to see her friend Callie and her Mom and Grandmother sometimes. She came home for New Year's Eve and met Jameson Johns. She knew him in high school but he hung out with the richer kids.

Now she is a teacher and teaches Science to the teens in town at Happy Hearts Animal Sanctuary. Can her and Jameson have a future.

Once you start reading this book you just can't put it down.

The Rancher’s Summer Secret is Christine Rimmer’s latest contribution to the Montana Mavericks series. It’s always fun to see where a secret relationship takes a storyline. In the end, Vanessa and Jameson gave into their feelings and found their happily ever after. This is the perfect book to read at the beach or pool. It is a fast read that I highly recommend. I received an advance copy which I chose to read and review. This is my honest opinion.

Another winner. To start I love the main character's name, Jameson. It is the same as my Grandson. The story is an excellent one on learning to trust and love and depend on one's own feelings. Vanessa and Jameson work together beautifully. I would of enjoyed a longer ending. I hated for story to end.
