Breaking up with her boyfriend and quitting her job in the same day. What else could go wrong for Lauren?
Lauren Burke realizes her life is nothing like she'd planned and she decides to do something about it. When she heads home to Coldwater Creek in a blizzard, she ends up sliding off into the fence and blacks out. But when she wakes up, she finds she's been rescued by her longtime teenage crush, Walker McBride.
Walker has kept his heart locked since his ex-girlfriend ditched him for one of his bull riding competitors the year before. After putting all of his energy into restoring the old lodge in his hometown, he's almost ready to accept guests. But when Lauren comes into his life, he quickly figures out that he's been more lonely than he cares to admit. His feelings grow as they're stuck together for several days because of the storm but will he be able to get over what's happened to him in the past?
Britney Mills was born in Utah but parts of her heart lie in Boston, Washington D.C. and Germany. Her love of writing began with the third grade book her teacher assigned her to write and she spent hours hidden behind her mother’s couch writing pages and pages about knights and castles. Most of her time consists of taking care of her young son and triplets but writing keeps her sane as she travels along on the adventures of characters to come. When she’s not mothering, writing or reading, she’s probably out playing a sport, going on a hike, or binge watching some kind of murder mystery show. She is a fan of chick flicks and adventure/action stories in books and movies, and can even get her cowboy husband to watch along with her.
For a relatively long novella, this book started a bit slow. The author gives us a glimpse into the lives of both the hero and the heroine before the meet-cute. The heroine certainly is not living the life that she thought she would be, and the boyfriend and his family are frankly pretty awful… both in the way they treat her (and have over 3 1/2 years) and in their manners. The series of events that precede the meet-cute is one that I've seen recently in another book, almost to the letter. The whole idea of being trapped in a blizzard, too, is an overdone, somewhat worn-out trope. I wish, sometimes, that writers were just a little more imaginative. This might sound a little silly, but as an RN, I wish that they were able to somehow get the heroine to the hospital rather than the “snowed in” trope since she actually did lose consciousness during her accident. I cringed as he got her out of the car after his quick, nonmedical assessment of her injuries. Yes, note to readers: If you have a car accident and lose consciousness for any length of time, get EMTs to take you to the ED as quick as you can because you never know what injuries you might have, and they can stabilize you on your way there! In other ways, this book felt a little too cliched to me. This book failed to connect for me.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Lauren was foolish to stay in a relationship and poor paying job with people who used her and didn't appreciate her. She leaves it all behind and in her misery crashes into Walker's fence driving to her family's home in a blizzard. Walker left a lot of things out his plan to reopen the Silver Brook Lodge. He wasn't good at accounting and should have considered outsourcing or hiring someone for that. He also banked on one chef responsible for running the restaurant and didn't consider that he might withdraw his acceptance at the last minute. Lauren took on many new skills at her last job and offers to assist with bookkeeping, management, and decorating. I loved what they did with the rustic themed rooms and his brother's photography. They are attracted to each other, she's had a crush on him for years, but misunderstandings and pain from past relationships threaten theirs. Their siblings are a riot and I'm looking forward to reading their stories.
I loved Walker and Lauren's story.i loved all the characters in this story. I enjoyed following Walter's dream of opening the lodge. This is a really sweet, clean romance .
This is a great book for a peaceful day's reading. Light and fun, the characters and plot pull you in quickly, and, before long, you're rooting for them both. A good start to a series!
Lauren has had a crush on Walker ever since she was a young girl. Walker was her brothers best friend. When Lauren loses her boyfriend and job all in the same day the only place she wants to be is back home in Coldwater Creek. What happens when an accident and a blizzard leaves her stranded at the old lodge with Walker?
Lauren and Walker have known each other since childhood as their families have long been good friends. Her brother, Preston, is Walker’s best friend and Lauren used to trail after them when they were kids. Both Lauren and Walker have recently made big changes in their lives. She has recently quit her job and dumped her dud of a boyfriend. He is just starting a new business venture, a lodge, after an accident made it impossible to return to bull riding and the rodeo circuit. As Fate would have it, a snow storm and an accident bring these two together again. When her car crashes into the Lodge’s gate, Walker rescues her and she ends up spending several days together while the storm runs it’s course. The days they spend together make them both aware of their attraction to each other and feelings that have long harboured but denied. Of course neither admits these feelings to the other and when she asks if she could help manage the Lodge, Walker is quick to hire Lauren. Trying to keep their feelings hidden for fear of being rejected or sending the other running is torture for both of them. Stress and misunderstandings make them both believe that nothing will come of their hopes for something more lasting. Read this beautifully written book to see how these two fascinating and wonderful people finally get their happily ever after.

I didn’t hate this. So there’s a plus. I did have a hard time with reading the story and coming across some errors (missing words). There are actions/sequence of events in this story that are hard to believe happening. This threw me off and put me off of the story at times. I’m not sure how old each of the MC’s are, mid to late twenties. I think the male MC was 28? Anyway at times the female MC was written as if she was 16-18 age range. This is a “clean” read. Only kissing happens. Not my go to but I tolerated it in this story. I am disappointed to see that Kassidy and Preston do not end up together based on the other stories available in this series. I would have loved reading that. So kind of a let down/missed op in my opinion. Reading the descriptions of the other stories I am not going to proceed with the series. There wasn’t any one of the remaining characters to write about that this story got me to care about reading. The remaining stories appear to be about Preston (Lauren’s brother), and more of the McBride siblings (Walker’s family).
Lauren has loved Walker since high school but he is her brother , Preston's best friend and thinks she seen as pretty much just a pesky little star. she goes off to college in Colo. Dates a guy there until she is invited to his family for Thanksgiving, and ignored by him, pretty much everyone. She finally decides she has had enough of Cory as well as his folks breaks off with Cory, then told his mother, she has had enough of working for her at their insurance agency for the three and a half years without one raise . She moves back home, gets involved with Walker with his working on getting the Lodge rebuilt and open after it ad burned. With twists an turns, they do finally admit their love for each other and become engaged. You need to read this book to get through a very nice story!
While the writer has good writing skills, this book makes me think of the adage, Write what you know. This author had clearly never made a picture frame and probably never even watched a DIY video about it. I strongly doubt she has any entrepreneurial experience or even interviewed anyone about starting a business. This incomprehension, where lack of a Christmas tree in a hotel window is a major crisis, the would-be hotel manager has never heard of temporary hired help, and a person who can grill burgers but has to ask his mom about cooking can act as chef for a restaurant, make the plot one of the weakest I have read in a long time. People love to talk about their work. This author could become first rate if she would take the time to do research when writing about things she has not personally experienced.
Love reading books by Britney Mills! This was such a good book, the characters were so likable especially Lauren. I loved the small town feel and how family was so important. The fact that Walker was reopening a lodge was exciting, the adventure he took on. There is romance that grows nice and slow, it was so life like I could feel the emotions of the characters. The friends and family that help support Walker draws the reader deeper into the story and just begs you to join them. I love every book I’ve ever read by this author, Mills has such a talent for capturing her audience!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
I enjoy stories changing old friends to lovers and this is a good one. Britney M. Mills is a master at story telling and her characters are well developed. You can feel Lauren’s anger and hurt when she overhears Cory and his mother. You also realize she has had a narrow escape. Having lived in Texas my entire life I can enjoy the idea of being snow bound, but I imagine the reality is less enjoyable. I enjoy how Walker is willing to acknowledge his weak points, organization, and to develop a stronger point, cooking. I enjoyed this book and recommend it.
Lock your doors, because you will want to read this book in one sitting! What’s not to love in this sweet Christmas love story?! Walker is a former bull rider who has rebuilt a lodge and surrounding cabins to open as a restaurant and destination vacation spot. When Lauren travels back home to see her family she ends up waylaid and snowed in with Walker. Will Lauren get a second chance at love with her high school crush, or will Walker always see her as his best friend’s little sister? I received an Advanced Reading Copy of this book and am giving a voluntary review.
This brings the holiday season to the forefront. Such an incredibly joyous story! I fell in love with these characters and the fact that they both have been through the ringer and coming together this holiday season! It was a slow burn romance and I really enjoyed this story! The author allowed us to form our own opinions of Lauren and Walker. It was a really good story to just kick back on a cold day and immerse your heart in a Christmas romance that will entertain and warm your heart!

The story takes place within a few weeks, but the characters grew up together, so it doesn't seem like the romance happened too quickly.
The characters weren't too fleshed out, but enough so we care about them. The author did a great job of letting us know the character's inner selves so we knew that they'd behave a certain way even when the other characters weren't so sure––based on their own pasts not on what they knew of each other.
The first book in the Christmas at Coldwater Creek series a well written story that kept me turning pages. I enjoyed seeing Lauren Burke and Walker McBride's story come together. I want to read the rest of this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Growing up, Lauren had always had a crush on Walker. However, every guy that was interested in her, her brother would scare them off. When Walker invited her to work at his lodge, she took him up on the offer. Will they get their happy ever after when all is said and done?

This is another terrific story from Britney. It has a great storyline and with Britney’s writing style you get good character depth, well described settings, good humour and wonderful and clean romance. I loved it, to me it was like watching a movie. It should be a movie! It is so enjoyable.
A entertaining holiday themed read. The story will keep you reading to see what will happen next. The characters fit well together and have amazing chemistry. You will read this book in one sitting. So grab a cup of tea and get cozy.
Loved this best friend's little sister romance with Lauren and Walker. They had great chemistry and were so perfect for each other and her getting snowed in with him during the Christmas Holiday was the perfect gift for them both.
I have not read a bad book from this author yet and this book is no exception! The great plot and character development kept me so engaged throughout the entire book that I had a very hard time putting this book down until the very last page was turned!
LOVE IN A BLIZZARD: Christmas at the Lodge (Christmas at Coldwater Creek) By Britney M Mills & Christina Schrunk is a Slow-Burn & Sweet Romance.
Walker McBride had once been called the King of the bull riding circuit, but an injury made him decide to retire. He decided to pursue a different dream of returning to his hometown of Coldwater Creek & rebuild the Silver Brook Lodge. The newly renovated lodge sat next to Coldwater Creek on the westside of Wyoming. It was close to being reopened after he had sunk a lot of his money and sweat into this project. He was hoping the good people of Coldwater Creek would support his effort. The town had been enthusiastic when he bought the run-down property, and announced his intentions of rebuilding.
Lauren Burke had moved to Colorado eight years ago. First for a college education and then stayed because of her boyfriend Cody. It was at a first Thanksgiving meal with Cody's family that her world came tumbling down & her heart was broken. She overheard, Cody & his mom talking about her and learned the mother didn't think she was good enough for her son. She actually wanted to find him someone better. Cody went along with her plan. Lauren knew then that she wasn't getting the ring for Christmas & since his mother was her boss, she was never getting a promotion or a raise. So, she said to Cody, “We're done!” and to his mom she said, “I quit!” She decided she just wanted to return home to her family in Coldwater Creek.
The weather was awful on Lauren's journey back home. Instead of stopping for the night, her desire to go back to her family was so strong, that she continued on ice covered roads & during a blizzard. Fate must of decided where she would end up. A deer on the road made her hit the breaks and slide off the road & into a fence. That was Walker's fence and he was the one to rescue the unconscious Lauren Burke. His best-friend's younger sister. He hadn't seen her in years. He kind of knew she had a crush on him when they were much younger, and she sure grew up to be a beautiful woman. And so their story begins...
What an adorable story! This was such a sweet romance with Christmas themes. I loved the small town vibes and family aspects. I really felt for Lauren. She found herself at a loss when she returns home, after breaking up with her boyfriend and quitting her job. I was rooting for her from the start. She really tried to put in her best for her work and relationship and did not really receive back. I admired her courage and how she jumped in to help at Coldwater Creek. It felt very natural to read about her there. It was close to her home and I think it showed in the way she fell into place with Walker. I loved getting to see her family too! Walker was so sweet! He was pretty serious and cared a lot about his work. He really wanted the lodge to do well and had put so much of himself in it. He found in Lauren someone who was willing to work alongside him. They really supported one another and enjoyed each other’s company. I love that it grew from a friendship. I also loved getting to know some of the other characters in Coldwater Creek and am excited to read more! This was a lovely Christmasy romance with only kissing.
Complimenti!
I really enjoyed reading Love in A Blizzard(Christmas at Coldwater Creek Book 1)!!! All about Walker McBride a twenty-eight year old rodeo star & Lauren Burke a twenty-five year old Art History major. The Walkers & Burke have been friends for years, and Lauren has always had a crush on Walker. When she breaks up with her boyfriend & quits her job, she goes home to spend time with her family. However along the way she runs off the road in a blizzard & crashes into Walkers fence. He wakes up to a loud crash, jumps out of bed to investigate. He finds a girl unconscious in a car, he calls the paramedics, but all the roads are closed, he’s got to care for her himself. Read about Walker & Lauren and see if they can help each other out. Lots of emotion plenty of laughs, crying, and getting pissed off does occur. Definite Read!!! Looking forward to reading book two!!!
Walker is opening a new lodge for Christmas. Long working hours has him very tired. He hears something & finds Lauren has had an accident due to a snow storm. He goes out to the car, finds her unconscious, taking her inside the lodge. He soon realizes this is his best friend’s sister. Lauren comes to; but she can’t leave until the roads reopen. So, she helps Walker ready the lodge for opening. They both have feelings for the other, but Preston, Lauren’ brother, & Walker’s best friend has kept guys away from Lauren in the past. Will they work around that issue or do they part ways?
A charming, clean & wholesome romance. Lauren Burke wasted years with a boyfriend she didn't love while working at his family's insurance business. As she returns home, she has an accident outside a recently rebuilt lodge only to have Walker McBride, her childhood crush, rescue her. Walker is still skittish after the breakup a year ago.
The story has the notion that it's not acceptable to fall for your best friend's sister. Frustration, interruptions, and lack of communication play essential roles. Eventually, everything works out for a pleasant ending.
