To be a strong and fearless queen Cassarah must demand the respect that she is owed while doing all she can to save their future. In her efforts to do just that Cassarah discovers long forgotten myths and legends that are coming to pass. Will Cassarah and her new guardians have what it takes to save not only their people but the kingdom as well?
Book 2 of the Mercenary Queen series. This is a slow burn series where she collects her harem along the way. This is a reverse harem, why choose romance where the leading lady doesn't have to choose who she loves or how many. Book contains 18+ content—swearing, sexual situations, and talk of past physical abuse.

Y'all I just ate the book up!! This storyline is so freaking good! Edge of my seat! Gasp moments! I am DYING the third book is so far away. I mean it is torture.

Now let me say upfront there is NO sexy sexy time in this series so far. I believe it is headed there but it ain't happening yet. However, Knight's brilliant writing does not make be feel in the least that anything is lacking.

I can not say enough how interesting and exciting I found this.

No spoilers here...keeping it short and sweet.

Happy reading,

I'm a sucker for character growth, esp when it's the FMC going from weaker to stronger, and Ms. Knight has really hit a sweet spot in Cassarah's growth for me. It doesn't happen overnight in book 1 and she's continuing to learn and strengthen in this second book. Cass also has moments of self-doubt still and questioning, because she's in a totally new world that keeps laying more and more responsibilities on her. In Dragon Queen, along with the increased responsibilities following the ending events of book 1, we also get some guardians to help support and protect the budding queen (old and new faces). The growing dynamics between Cass and her guardians, who are not all love interests, were wonderful. This is still a slow burn with just some kissing in this book, but since not all the dynamics are based on attraction, we also get Cass learning how to be friends with more people and depend on others.

There is a lot more world-building in Dragon Queen, which is necessary, but sometimes it was heavy in spots. I think when I go back to re-read, this is one of those worlds that I'll pick up bits and pieces I missed each time I go back. We learn more about the history of the Lost King AND we get a surprise revelation about the mercenary's history as well. There are also more dragons and, of course, Vasin continues to shine. There's political maneuvering (within the mercenaries and with royalty), danger, betrayal, and some battling. There's even fighting on dragon back, which was neat. Dragon Queen ends on a similar note to Birthright, with lots still to come, but no crazy cliffhanger. I'm excited for book 3 and to see the journey Ms. Knight continues to take Cassarah on.

I thought book one of this series was good but I wasn't a huge fan of Cass and some of the other characters. But book 2 sold me on the series and the growth from the characters was amazing. In Dragon Queen we see Cass grow to become the Queen she's destined to be, we're introduced to her potential harem, get dragon battles, more Vasin snark, plot twists, and phenomenal world building.

This book is one of those slow-burns that is done so well you don't even miss the steamy times. Cass's goal in this book is to save her people so pretty much no focus is placed on romantic relationships. We are introduced to her potential harem members in this book and she does form relationships with them with cute scenes, but it's not filled with the sexual angst that most slow burns have (which made me a huge fan). If you're like me and don't mesh well with slow burns due to the angst, give this one a try. You hopefully won't regret it.

Dragon Queen is the second book in the Mercenary Queen series and it was freaking awesome. The love that I have for this book is unending, Knight has totally outdone herself with this one. A strong, smart, wise, leading female character, a great female friendship, hot overprotective guys who support their queen, interesting magic, political intrigue, action, drama, you name it and this book has it. Dragon Queen pretty much picks up right where Birthright left off, Cassarah has discovered the Lost King's (Henry's) plan to take over the throne, she's rescued crowned prince Gavin, blew stuff up, and got the heck out of dodge. She locates the mercenaries' hideout, greets her people, announces her reign, and claims her guards. The race is on to stop the Lost King from taking over the entire land, country by country, now if only the clan leaders will get on board, it's time for Cassarah to show them who's queen.

Cass has suffered a lot in the past, abused both physically and mentally by her mother and that has enabled her to be a fair but caring person. In fact, everything she has ever been through, that she has overcome, has lead Cass to become a fantastic queen. Cass is pretty much the smartest person in the room, she is highly intelligent, her brain is always working, coming up with plans seeing things from different points of view with a focused kind of logic. No doubt she is intelligent but what makes her the smartest person in the room is that she knows she doesn't have all the answers, she is willing to look to people with more experience and knowledge when she needs to and is willing to learn when there is a gap in her knowledge, the fact that she doesn't let her pride get in the way is what makes her the smartest person in the room. I loved seeing how Cass's brain worked it was fascinating seeing her come up with plan after plan, piece things together, understand people and when they try to undermine her she outmaneuvers them every time. While Cass can most definitely handle herself in a fight it's her intelligence that makes her formidable, Cass has taken to the role of queen and she is fantastic at it she cares about her people, is protective of them, and uses everything in her arsenal to do what she must to keep everyone safe.

Now if only she can handle relationships a little bit better. Having spent the entirety of her life alone (except for Becka), Cass doesn't really know how to deal with people that well or her emotions since she had to stuff them down to keep herself safe. Cass doesn't really get relationships and the clues that people give off about how they feel about people so the fact that she has eight guardians, six of them being male and very into her is interesting to see. She's meant to pick consorts from her guards, she knows this but doesn't really know how to respond to the attention. I love how the guys are developing a relationship with Cass, each one is different but seems to give Cass something she needs. Abbott and Cole have always been there but are now starting to show their interest in her in different ways, Abbott anticipates her needs and tries to make things better, while Cole is trying to be less Cole, is super protective, and is even more scowly than usual. They are both adorable and have made their intentions know as well as Cass's other guardians and I have to say Cass has a very good group, they are all protective, supportive, and kind but each has that little something extra that just draws me in, they're all so great that I don't even have a favorite I love them all.

As for the plot, it's the politics that moves the story along. The mercenaries are their own people and the royals of Norden need to accept that however, the past says things won't be easy in the present when it comes to that. Then there are the clan leaders, old dudes who are too used to power and don't want to give it over, not to mention that some of Cass's own people are disrespectful at first. Cass has to prove herself time and time again but she does, she gives critical information, makes valuable plans, proves herself to be a powerhouse to the clan leaders and the clan. Then she has to gain allegiance with the royals of Norden who don't see the mercenaries as anyone but their subjects and Cass has to force them to see her as a queen in her own right. Cass is making political moves, uncovering diabolical plans, and proving to be a formidable force, I loved it, however, the best part is Vasin. The black dragon has sass for days, the relationship between him and Cass, is so precious, they care about each other so much and Cass leans on Vas when she needs to, she puts a level of trust in him that she hasn't given anyone. All her doubts, fears, political maneuvers, and even relationship troubles, everything goes through Vas because he's her best friend, her other half, her pair-bond. The relationship they have is very special and the conversations between Vas and Cass are fantastic.

Dragon Queen was an awesome read, ugh I didn't want to put it down and with so much action happening in the last quarter of the book, I was riveted. I have to say that the ending was pure chaos and Cass was completely savage, I loved it. I can't wait to see Cass make boss-lady moves, it's gonna kill me to have to wait so long for the next book but until I get my hands on the Forgotten Throne it looks like I'm gonna have to do a few re-reads of this one.

I think I'm addicted to the series. If you're a fan of slow burns, you're going to absolutely love this one, and if you're not, I'm pretty sure that you'll still love it. Knight made some serious magic with this second book and even with the steam lacking, the story completely grabs you. A good deal of it deals with politics within the mercenaries and the kingdom, plotting and planning out their next steps, and missions, but there was never a moment where I got bored with anything that was happening. Even the moments that were on the slower side had importance and kept my eyes glued to the pages.

You'll see that quite a bit has changed with the characters since the first book. Several new ones have been added while your favorites from the previous book are still around being either funny, supportive, or grumpy like always. The one thing that you do see in this book is the more obvious show of feelings and emotions revolving around Cass. As guardians are being chosen, the men do not dabble with letting Cass know how they feel about her. Even though nothing much is done about these feelings as of yet, I have complete confidence that things will be escalating in the next book.

Cass' character is the one where you will notice the most change. From a meek, shy, yet determined girl, Cass has truly taken charge this time around. She has adjusted to the role as queen with such a force, proving her worth to even those that originally doubted her. She may have had a rough past and although some may see it as a weakness, it often helps her take a different approach to her actions. She treats everyone with kindness and respect, a huge difference from how her mother would have treated anyone she considered beneath her. Cass is an admirable queen who not only fights for every single one of her people, she also listens. She knows that she isn't capable of doing everything on her own and asks for advice when needed, using those close to her as a sounding board when she needs to talk through plans and get suggestions from others who would be more knowledgeable about certain topics. That is the kind of queen people can depend on because they know that she also depends on them.

Vasin is another character that you simply have to love. As a bonded companion I don't think you could get any better than him. He's knowledgeable in so much and provides Cass with information as she needs it, never overwhelming her or giving it to her in times when it is unnecessary. He's also incredibly supportive, giving Cass confidence boosts as well as giving her advice when she is second guessing herself or her decisions. He's not at the top of his game yet, still needing to grow and gain new abilities, but even now he's everything that Cass needs. I look forward to seeing them grow together and creating an even stronger bond.

The release for the next book cannot come soon enough! I'm eager to see what Knight has in store for this group of characters as they travel back to their roots and come back stronger than ever.

Where do I start? If you loved the first book, you would definitely love the second one. From the beginning these characters have had a way of bringing you into their world in a way that makes you feel like you are a part of the story. In a world of fantasy, this storyline has it all, an epic adventure that keeps you craving for more and guessing what will happen next.

The FMC Cassarah is definitely one of the best ones I have read about this year. This second installment to the series really shows how much growth our queen Cassarah is making. The timid and passive nature is starting to shed away and, in its place, bringing out a fierce and determined queen instead. Her role as queen has given her the push, she needed to become the woman she was always meant to be. Between her newfound strength and her guardians (who I Love…) we begin another extraordinary adventure that brings with it a fantasy storyline that anyone would love to read about. The twist and turns that happen in this book were a surprise that I didn't see coming...but added to my already "at the edge of my seat" status. A feeling of longing to know what might happen next!

This action-packed series just keeps getting better and better. If you love a fantasy world full of drama, action, betrayal, dragons, and love then this is definitely the series for you! Continue reading the series so you can see Cassarah doing what needs to be done in order to save all their future’s and maybe find a little love along the way as well!!

I can’t wait to find out what happens next…

Say hello to your new favorite EPIC fantasy! Elizabeth Knight had completely ramped up this series 10 fold! Everything about this series just keeps getting better and better! Think epic fantasy, sexual tension, kick butt Queen, protective men, completely awesome dragons and an absolutely original and enthralling storyline…what’s not to love!

My words can’t even begin to do this story justice, trust me, you’ll just have to read it and find for yourselves just how truly amazing this series is! Cassarah is definitely one of my favorite FMCs to date! She’s strong, determined, loyal, caring and so much more than any one person could ever expect. She surprises you at every turn. And then there are Cass’s guardians whom I’m absolutely in love with! They all bring their own personalities and dimension to the story. Something uniquely them that adds so much depth and intrigue to the story.

Even more, DRAGONS! I mean, come on, who doesn’t love some extraordinary, powerful, completely incredible dragons! We see so much more of them in this story and it makes me ridiculously happy! The bond Vasin and Cass share is absolutely perfect! The give and take, the solidarity and protection they share for one another and just the soul deep connection they share is something one could only dream about.

This story was full of epic battles, a Queen taking her rightful place, and a formed family navigating life and love as they go. I cannot wait to see what happens in book 3!!!!!

Wow. I really, really enjoyed this book and absolutely devoured it. Below is a spoiler-free review because spoilers are no fun....

Book two picks up right where the first book left Cass. The action packed book one ending ran right on thru and never stopped until I got to the thrilling end that left me greedy for more.

I loved the twist at the end. I figured something was going on with that group, but did not foresee the story landing how it did - which was super fun to read. Cass did so much growing from the beaten, eager-to-please girl we met in book one that I, quite frankly, had a hard time connecting with. I cannot wait to read more of her story as she continues to heal and grow into the fierce queen she's destined to become.

I adore all of the new characters and am in awe of the fascinating world Ms Knight has built. I find myself wanting so much more; more information about dragons, more of the birthrights, and most importantly, I want more May. I have faith in Ms. Knight's storytelling and know she will give us all of the above as this series continues!

I recieved an ARC, but I wouldve read it for free on my kindle unlimited membership anyways, so it has absolutely no bearing on my above review.

Ok, so I’m gonna start by saying that I live where this is going, book 2 was worth the pain of book one.lol

Cassarah (FMC) shows lots of growth throughout the series so far and it just keeps getting better…less timid and shy - she is becoming a powerhouse in her own right. Accepting her role and taking it all on, her transformation is a brilliant thing to watch.

There’s dragons, dragons and even more DRAGONS!!! It’s is packed full of powerful predators that leave you feeling giddy.
Her guardians all bring their own dish to the pot luck that will have you licking every plate clean. And her bond with Vasin is some soul deep shiz right there - it’s what every bonded girl dreams of right?!

Like most of ms Knight’s books it is PACKED full of drama, side action, betrayal, super epic battles, tension, growth and a woman on a journey bolstered by her experiences and the support tram around her. Throw in the usual twists and turns that I never see coming and you got this slice of awesomeness that I cannot WAIT to get my teeth back into

Cass is back and oh man can she catch a break. Well I mean we pick up from where we left off in book one. Cass gets her guards and oh boy are they some hot fellas. Some even have a bit of mystery to them. However, Cass needs to start talking to the council to find out what they know and start acting before the lost king shows his face. However, some of the council are not to keen on taking her orders. No worries, though she puts them in her place. Another thing that I loved about this book was to see how much Cass has grown as a woman. She did not back down and she put her foot down. Even though her foot was still healing. She knows that she needs allies and is working on that when the unthinkable happened. Someone betrayed and deceived her. Oh man was that a doozie. Like I said can she catch a break. I mean she is constantly fighting and she also manages to save the lives of her guard. She definitely has what is needed to be the Dragon Queen. With all the action going on, you know we are left hanging. I cannot wait for the next book. I need to see how all this will play out.

The land is on the cusp of war as Cassarah is made queen and her guardians are selected by her birthright. It is Cassarah’s responsibility to protect her people and she has her guardian’s to advise and protect her. Can she make the tough decisions that need to be made? Is she putting her trust in the right people? Can she find the strength to stand up for herself and be the queen her people need?

This is the second book in this amazing series and I devoured every single word, I loved it! I love Cassarah and her terrific character development throughout this story. Her chosen guardians are an eclectic group of sexiness and it is fantastic how immediately protective they all are of her! I loved the revelations and legends, as well as the awesome world development. The complex storyline is incredible and leaves you begging for more!

I highly recommend this book and series and consider it an absolute Must Read! I will be excitedly awaiting the next book!

The world of the mercenary queen that Elizabeth has created continues to blow my mind. Cass is one of the strongest fmc’s I have read about but she has had so much growth as a character throughout not only the first book but also the second. This world is honestly just incredible. It sucks you in and you can’t stop reading. I really enjoyed seeing the development between Cass and her guardians. I also enjoyed her putting the Clan leaders in their place! As a character Cass is smart, loving, damaged, yet comes across fearless Eve though she does fear so much. Out of her guardians I don’t know who my favorite is yet but they are all amazing in their own ways. I will say I did not see the twist that happened coming! That was so intense and I was so upset! I cannot wait to see what the next book brings and learning more about the world this series has created.

Dragon Queen is absolutely epic! I can’t believe that this is only book 2 in the series, Cassarah has come *so* far that looking back at her in the begging of book 1, she’s unrecognizable. So much happens in this book, Cassarah is really getting to know herself and she’s becoming a true queen in every way. Her relationship with Vasin continues to grow and thrive. It’s beyond special and surpasses previous pair bonds in history. Cassarah now has the addition of guardians, which challenges her in many ways. With them, I feel like she’s continuing to grow and learn but also be vulnerable and strong. I love some of the connections she’s making with them and I can’t wait to see that really take off. There’s also a huge amount of action in this book as the Lost King continues his attack. Amazing story!!

Dragon Queen is book 2 of the Mercenary Queen series and not to be read as a standalone.

Picking up where book 1 ended, Cass returns to the Clans hideaway. In a moment of panic she draws her chosen guardians to her side, something that hasn’t been done in generations. She is now ready to be crowned Queen of the Mercanaries but there is no time to celebrate with the Lost King planning to take over the kingdom, Cass must prepare for war.
Secrets are revealed, allegiances formed but not everyone is who they appear to be.

This is an epic high fantasy read that is fast becoming one of my favourites. It’s a slow burn with heavy focus on building relationships. Beautifully written I was completely absorbed in the story from start to finish.

Amazing book from page 1

If you haven't started this series then you are missing out! Casarah is one tough, smart, bad*** Queen and the way she's coming into her own is amazing. Then there are her guardians *swoon!* I would love to tell you I have a favorite but that would be a total lie. I feel like a Pokémon- gotta catch them all cause yeah...*fans face*. OK on to the story which is amazing - full of twists, betrayals, adorable moments, hilarious moments and just so freaking good. Vasin is my favorite character and I can't wait to see how this will all develop. So if you're looking for an amazing story with great characters and a book you just can't put down then this one is for you!

Gosh… I think it’s official. I’ve read everything Elizabeth Knight has written and I haven’t come across something I haven’t adored yet.

I don’t know how she does it but every time her series just get better and better with every book and this one is no exception! Cass is everything I look for in a heroine. She’s funny, sarcastic, bold, and just a really get FMC. The thing I love the most about this book though is the growth we see Cass go through and all of her errors. Elizabeth has a way of making all of her FMC’s relatable in some way and I think that’s why I love her soo much.

If you love assassins, dragons, and fantasy then this book is definitely for you. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Absolutely loved the second book as much as the first! From epic world building, plots that keep you enthralled and characters that you enjoy reading about Elizabeth Knight has created a world and story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. From chaos and treachery to funny and sweet moments this book has everything you could possibly need in a fantasy series.

With Cass our favourite sasshole heroin being sworn in as Queen and her birthright choosing her guardians this book navigates the struggles Cass and her guardians face which certainly isn’t easy. Relationships starting to blossom the book takes you on the journey with Cass. I cannot wait for book 3 and If you haven’t read it yet you need to read immediately.

The baddest Queen of them all!

I absolutely LOVED book 2. Cassarah has grown as a character so much since the first book. She is embracing her place in the world as the Mercenary Queen and expanding her horizons on what she can do as she moves forward.
Vasin, our gorgeous black dragon is still the sweetest, most ferocious of them all. He has Cass' best interests and will do anything he can for her.
We met new characters in this book which gives so much potential for her finding love with more an 1 guy.. and possibly all of them.
Book 3 cant come out quick enough. I will be anxiously nibbling my fingernails waiting for it!

This book is just as captivating as the first book. I love seeing Cassarah grow into her role as queen. The only problem I had with the story was there were many new characters introduced- so many that some characters that I’m sure will be very important, are barely mentioned or described. The characters that are shown a bit more, I still feel like I only know the basics about. There is a lot going on with clan leaders, royalty and a war to be planned, so it felt like it was getting a bit confusing. I would have happily sacrificed some of the politics for some more relationship building.
Can’t wait for the next one to come out!

Book Two in the Mercenary Queen series picks up where the first book left off. Cassarah knows her destiny is to be queen, and in this book, the goal is to stop the lost king from taking over.

This is a very, very slow burn to the point of non-existent romance almost. But the authors writing and the plotline don't give us time to miss it. We are so focused on Cass's goals that we don't miss the romance that is starting to form between her and her men.

Vasin is my current favorite character just for the snark. Abbott and Cole are solid characters, but I'm hoping their roles in the story are pushed a little more so that we can have all three at the forefront with Cass.

After getting kidnapped and saved at the end of book 1, Cass comes face to face with a threat no one even knew about, the Lost King. He is the first son of the King of Norden and want to rule over all. On top of a coming war, Cass has to try and navigate becoming queen, finding her guardians and try to save her people.

There is so much drama, suspense, betrayal and adventure in this series that you want to read without any distractions! I can’t wait until book 3 to see what our dragon queen has planned!

Cass is a totally bad*** and a fantastic and fair ruler, she has so many things stacked against her as she grew up no knowledge of the mercenaries, in spite of all that she tries hard to learn their ways and make decisions that will benefit them all. In addition to all of that she is kind to everyone she meets even if they may not have made the best first impression or if she disagrees with their actions. This book is so fantastic I cannot wait for the next installment in this amazing fantasy series.

Cassarah is really coming into her own in this book! She has grown so much since the start of this series. There is some amazing world-building in this series. This book is full of politics, magic, drama, action, and strong female characters. The politics don't bog down the story as they can in other books, instead it drove the plot forward in amazing ways. I was sucked in from page 1, and the action towards the end made me thirsty for the next book! I am definitely going to do a reread of both before the next in this series comes out.

First off this is an AMAZING second to the first book. Your really getting to see the FMC show how smart, strong and capable she is. What I also really enjoyed is that how she is in the book, her inner thought process and how she interacts with the guys is EXACTLY how I would be. It made her so relatable and fun to read.

The world building is amazing and villians are bad bad bad and once she has solved one problem another bigger one pops up.

I really can't wait for book three. Pick up this book NOW its a masterpiece! 🤯

Dragon Queen is the second book in Elizabeth Knight’s Mercenary Queen series. This is an awesome series.

Cassarah is an awesome character and I love seeing her grow. Cassarah is embracing the fact that she’s the true queen and gains her guardians. I love the dynamics and the growth between her guardians and herself.

This fantasy world Elizabeth Knight has created with this series is just fantastic. There’s political intrigue, action, adventure, steamy sexual tension, and freakin DRAGONS! If you love all that then i definitely recommend starting this awesome series!

Great read, it’s such a unique storyline - unlike nothing I’ve read before.
I enjoyed this book as it was focused on Cas’s sexual relationships or sexual tension but rather the actual things that are happening. We do see her potential RH candidates but theres a very slow burn element to this story.
I loved Cas’s relationship with her black dragon, he is her best friend, her everything- it’s such a strong bond.
The action scenes towards the end of the book are so detailed and honestly fantastic.
Can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
As always this author doesn’t disappoint.

Loving this!!

Cass and her men, friends and dragons will keep you on your toes. There’s so much action you don’t know what’s gonna come next. There’s betrayal, excitement, new beginning, past revelations, danger and so much more that you will be engrossed throughout.
It is a slow burn and I feel even though I’m moving on to book three I don’t know much about all of the characters and I like this. We are getting to know them as Cass does in amongst all of the carnage going on around her and I can’t wait for more!

This book was phenomenal!!! It was action packed and Cass is one bad a** FMC. Omg I loved every bit of her story and how far she’s come to step into her role. Kicking butt and taking names later in a no nonsense way. Love it!!! And the men, omg so hot and cute. The shocking end was like holy crap no!!!! I totally need more and can not wait for the next one in the series. Highly recommend this book.
