When Jack receives a phone call from a colleague in the southeast of Tasmania with news of a newfound butterfly habitat, he and Lawson head off on another adventure. It’s not an easy trek to the location. The Franklin-Gordon National Park is famous for wild rivers, rainforests, and rocky cliff faces, and they’ll need to hike and abseil—in the dead of winter—to get to the site.
It’s no ordinary expedition because this is no ordinary butterfly, and Jack and Lawson aren’t an ordinary couple. Join Jack and Lawson on another quest in this short story of extraordinary butterflies and extraordinary love.
N.R. Walker is an Australian author, who loves her genre of gay romance. She loves writing and spends far too much time doing it, but wouldn't have it any other way.
She is many things; a mother, a wife, a sister, a writer. She has pretty, pretty boys who she gives them life with words.
She likes it when they do dirty, dirty things...but likes it even more when they fall in love. She used to think having people in her head talking to her was weird, until one day she happened across other writers who told her it was normal.
I absolutely adored Imago and its sequel, not to mention the cross over with Red Dirt Heart, and this was no different. Walker continues to bring a smart bent to the wonderful world of ecology, creating a thought provoking read in and amongst a love story.
Overall, this was good ole comfort reading catching up with a favorite established couple!
This is a lovely little add-on to Walker’s Imago series which I’m sure fans will enjoy.
Set a few years down the road, with Jack and Lawson happily married and raising an adorable little son, this story sees the guys off on a new expedition after they get news that a fascinating and potentially undiscovered butterfly has been spotted deep within a cave system in the Franklin-Gordon National Park.
This was an outdoorsy adventure, full of fun, wonder, discovery, and, most of all, love.
At this point, Jack and Lawson work, live and love together so perfectly that getting to read this little extra about their lives was a heart-warming treat that fans of the series should not miss.
Visiting Lawson and Jack was really nice, and it was rather lovely to see the life they've built four years after book 1. But I guess you really have to love all the butterfly talk to 100% enjoy this little novella. I reckon it covers about half of the story.
Perfect for budding lepidopterists and those who are hard-die Lawson/Jack fans!
I do love a good surprise, don’t you? What a splendid surprise this short story was! I very much enjoyed Jack and Lawson in their first two books and mentioned that I could read about them all day long. I stand by that statement and was delighted to discover they had another journey for us to tag along on. There’s no question that this story is series dependent. The history of the first two books is necessary to fully understand this story and the dynamics of their relationship. So, if you haven’t had the pleasure of grasping the appeal behind butterflies and bowties, I strongly suggest you start at the beginning!
When a potential new butterfly pops up in the most unexpected place, there’s no one else to call except Dr. Lawson Brighton-Gale. Kind of like ghosts, there’s only one true savior. Of course, wherever Lawson is found Jack is bound to be nearby. They pack up and head back to Tasmania with winter gear this time around. Their small team battles against the mighty powers of mother nature hoping to unveil a spectacular new species. Following suit with the first part of this series, Walker delivers lots of good feels and little drama or trouble.
I appreciate solid love and this pair has proven they are a formidable force. They are tender, considerate, and genuine. And there’s nothing better than checking in on favorite couples after their exquisite happily-ever-after. I knew they were happy but seeing it with my own eyes brought me bone-deep comfort. And honestly, what more can you ask for? Well, a holiday novella would be amazing if somebody is collecting votes. *wink*
Beware of: Lawson and Jack continue to share their sweet and lovestruck stares. Another Brighton-Gale threatens to steal the show. And since the pages are limited the intimacy takes different forms proving equal importance.
This book is for: Walker fans, Brighton-Gale fans, or anyone looking for a healthy dose of happiness…the butterfly stops here.
I love getting to visit with Jack and Lawson. They're two of my favorite N.R. Walker characters. 🥰 In this short story, they find a new butterfly, and it's a testament to how good of a writer Walker is that she makes lepidoptery interesting.
Ahh, it's good to be home. Jack, Lawson and Lawson's mini me, Brennan. You know, some love stories are simply epic. They stand the test of time and endure.
So this evening I'm reading and watching Our Planet. Wouldn't you know there is a segment on ... butterflies. Oh wow, it couldn't have been more perfect. So Lawson gets lost in the wonder at times. Butterfly speak. Over my head but no less interesting. I love Lawson more for it.
With the help of David Attenborough and some incredible visuals, I get it.
It was nice find again Lawson and Jake, and get a glimpse of their life after years together ... They are always so damn sweet 😍😍😍 And Brennan ... 🖤🖤🖤🖤 That's why i would have liked more family moments and a little lesser of work ones, no matter how exciting it is for them.
Ok, so it was saccharine sweet, but I don't mind one bit! :)
Having finished a rather heavy and sad book, our Butterfly Guy and his Tassie Ranger have been the best remedy to my bruised heart!
I liked that Lawson and Jack didn't have any accidents or emergencies this time (it would be a little OTT if they did) and I really loved little, already-nerdy Brennan and a quite final (I hope not!!!) ending to this short...
Ow, and I will miss Australia so much!!
Highly recommended if you want to just cheer up and relax!
A cute revisit of Lawson and Jack, as it's several years into their marriage and they have an adorable 4-year-old son, Brennan now as well.
I personally would have liked less focus on the butterflies and more on them and their son, their little family. It made this pretty short story a little slow for me and that shouldn't happen with such short stories, in my opinion.
But I care more about these two, and their adorable son, then a new species of butterfly, and just the details about the trip and having to climb up the mountain and getting in the caves and then finding the butterflies, it all became a little blah to me, so I paused quite a few times.
Like I read this series for the romance, not the butterflies, so it was a tad disappointing to get mainly butterflies in this.
Nonetheless, the few sweet and romantic moments these two had were great, and the beginning and end when they were with each other and their son were my favorite parts, and there was still that chemistry between these two that I loved in the main books, so still a 3 star read for me.
But I would have given this more if it had focused more on the romance instead of butterflies.
While I am a big N R Walker fan, I don´t really think, that this is one of her stronger series. The story of our main characters following a call to a National Park, where a new butterfly species may have been found is perfectly nice and sweet and ... well - boring. I am normally not a big fan of established couples and for me this trope didn`t work too well here. Yes it is nice to learn more about main characters you love from other stories, but usually those "encore" stories are lukewarm and very often don`t live up to your expectations. Apart from the fact that not much happens here, nothing is wrong with this novella, but honestly if you skip it, you are not missing a lot. There are lots of great N R Walker books out there, go check out one of those... 3 stars and an okay read, only if you know and love Jack and Lawson.
Loved that Lawson and Jack are still happily married living with their 4 year old son Brennan. I just wish there was more of that going on in the book. The focus was on a new species of butterflies and not so much on them which is fine if you're into that 🤷🏽♀️
NR Walker's books are my happy place. Honestly! I would be quite content to live in the world of Red Dirt Heart and Imago for 100 more books filled with these characters.
Jack and Lawson are back in another tale in the Imago series. This one is a short story chronicling a new find for Lawson and a big decision that will affect Lawson’s future. I love these guys, and have since the very first story. I will admit, when I first heard this story was coming out, I worried about what Walker would put them through this time. Their love is always strong, but they have a history of ending up in life threatening situations. Fortunately, there’s much less of that this time around and we get to see them happy and in love, their sweet little family living their best life.
After reading this one, I think I've realized what I didn't care about these characters. There was just too much "work" stuff and not enough of a story with them as a couple. This would've been a perfect short to show their life with their new son, we go back to what all the books have been about, finding yet another form of a butterfly. I'm over it...
Guess what... this series is so so endearing, warm, full of romance and pure love. Jack and Lawson together were already top but now we have also their four-year-old son Brennan added to the strong circle of love. I can’t!
I never knew the lives of butterflies were so dynamic, this series gave so much insight, it was stunning to read about it all, really very interesting. All the terminology was awesome!
Lawson is highly intelligent, a genius, throughout the series we are witness to it. Jack is the best loving partner he could wish for, they love and respect each other deeply.
Finding an unknown species is one thing, to give it a name... man, that was quite momentous.
WONDERFUL utterly lovable series. The author did an amazing job! Highly recommended!
Gosh, it was just so, so, so lovely getting to get back to Jack and Lawson and see how happy they are together, and also what they're up to now.
This is a MUST-READ for fans of the series! Definitely cannot be read on its own. And while I would have loved for them to have found another butterfly on Sutton Station, this was pretty perfect too.
As usual, Henry and Lawson were cute, sweet and, with the addition to their family, lovingly parental. I loved the discoveries made in this book, even in book 1 when I didn’t love the pair, I always found the ecological talk fascinating. I’m also a fan of romance novels, but something that always bothers me is that the stories are usually ended after they’ve gotten together. I like catching glimpses of them actually working as a couple. In short, I enjoyed this one☺️
So sweet and intimate 🩷 and also an incredible adventure finding “The Brighton-Gale Butterfly.”🥹
There was such intimacy in just kissing, in holding each other, in nuzzling necks, and more kissing. Soft kissing, deep kissing, tender and hard, tasting and biting, with no intention of taking it further. It was fun and sensual, and my god, it felt so good just to reconnect with him like this. “I love you,” I murmured into his ear. He put his hands to my face and pushed me back so I could see him. He was smiling, kiss-swollen lips and a spark in his eyes. “I love you,” he mouthed before bringing our mouths back together.
