DEEP MAGIC is an electronic magazine that publishes clean short fiction in the fantasy and science fiction genres (epic, paranormal, steampunk, etc).
Wall Street Journal bestselling author Jeff Wheeler took an early retirement from his career at Intel in 2014 to write full-time. He is a husband, father of five, and a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jeff lives in the Rocky Mountains.
So many good stories in this issue, but my favorite was clearly Darned Socks by Brendon Taylor. As usual, our sneaky managing editor submitted the story under a fake name and it found its way again to the top of the pile. One day we'll catch him in the act! I also liked Michael J. Sullivan's short story about a video game gone awry when one of the characters in it becomes sentient. Ocean-Eyed Boy was so unique and different, we all loved it and are proud to publish Timothy Mudie's excellent story.
In the issue, we also feature an excerpt of Charlie Holmberg's latest bestselling novel SPELLBREAKER, which has already shattered her previous sales records. Way to go Charlie! And we also feature a sneak preview of my new novel, KNIGHT'S RANSOM, which takes place in my Kingfountain world (in the distant past). I think you're going to love it.
A fanciful set of tales this was. A character in a game becomes sentient? I can imagine the fall out was quite real. The book excerpts were good , but I’ve already read all of Jeff Wheelers stories. Another great anthology and I am almost caught up.
Jeff, Charlie and Brendon did it again! Creative and interesting stories from everyone involved in this issue. I read through this too fast. Glad I can still order the full the books from Jeff and Charlie.
Not my favourite collection by far. If it didn't have mediocre writing, it had very basic philosophical quandaries that are pontificated on at length. Sometimes, it had both!
