A favorite animal among children is the subject of this book – Slow, Slow Sloths! It is rated as a Level 2 reader for children who read with help. A map depicts where sloths live. Children will read a description of the smiling sloth and their long claws. They will also learn about their food supply, habitat, and young. This is a delightful reader with relevant and cute photography.

I did not like this book because I do not like sloths. I also did not like this book because there were sloths in this book.

I liked that the sloth is climbing up the tree.

I learned that when sloths eat leaves, they don’t get very many calories, and that’s one of the reasons sloths are so slow.

I have a difficult relationship with early readers. I know their purpose is different from a chapter book or even a picture book, but I just find the text so lacking in flow and interest. Again, I know that beautiful flow isn't necessarily the purpose of books like this, but there are some early readers that get it right (Bink and Gollie is the gold standard of early readers in my opinion) so I feel like we can and should always have good writing in mind no matter the audience. Luckily the pictures in this book are totes adorbs so that is what ultimately held my interest.

Though this is a book for young readers, it still packs in a lot of interesting information. I didn't know that sloths sleep 15-20 hours a day, are in the same family as armadillos, or that algae grows on their fur because they move so slow! And those are just a few of the facts contained in this book. Great for animal lovers and young readers.

As an adult, I thought the pictures were cute, but I can imagine some kids out there being freaked out by them, especially the wet one on page 21.

Very informative. It has you pay attention...asks a question you might miss if you're reading quickly.
