As all my photography classes were cancelled due to lockdown, I bought this as a step by step guide to taking better DSLR photographs with my new camera. I’m finding it really helpful to read alongside the camera manual and to provide suggestions for projects. The most important advice though is....practise, practise, practise!

Very clear for the true beginner.

More overview than complete, but, if one were to complete all the exercises as suggested, one would surely become at least competent. Although, a lot of money would be spent along the way: this is a criticism of photography as a hobby, not the book. Very well illustrated to the point at which my (ancient in Apple terms) iPad Pro struggled to move to the next page sometimes displaying only two fifths of a page. Judicious tapping solves the problem eventually.

A truly excellent guide to making photographs, with practical lessons and suggestions for trying out the principles and techniques described. The format is a bit odd—the "quizzes" at the beginnings of the chapters merely confuse and obfuscate rather than illuminate; you have to work too hard to glean the information they contain, which is valuable, and the multiple-choice questions at the end of every chapter are just silly. But otherwise, this is a first-rate guide to anyone who is getting started with digital photography as well as those who are somewhat familiar with their cameras but could use some more depth of information and practice.

Digital Photography: Complete Course is a comprehensive and detailed guide to digital photography that tells you just about everything you need to know to bring your photography to the next level. Clear, illustrated examples, and practical exercises take you through the steps to improving your photographic skills in 20 weeks.

I purchased this book from Amazon several years ago, and have used it intermittently to enhance my ability, and thought I would share it with other budding photogs. It’s well worth the investment.

I have a low-level foundation of knowledge in the technical aspects of digital photography. I felt very comfortable reading through this, and it helped me grasp and understand several things better. I’m not sure if it would be good for someone coming to this hobby super fresh. It might not explain the lessons in enough detail for someone with no prior experience or education.

A good solid book for learning digital photography using a variety of cameras. It is broken down into 20 weeks worth of lessons on a variety of subjects like low light, focusing, wide angles, etc.

Overall very informative. Can be redundant at times, but I suppose that can be useful in some situations.

well laid out, helpful book, which takes a different aspect of photography for each of its 20 lessons, provides examples, "how to", and projects to undertake. It was a bit more advanced than I had expected, and I think, assumed more previous knowledge than I had. Useful info on how to use software to improve the digital shots.

A pretty solid grounding in the basics of photography. It combines knowledge with lessons to make sure you get the practical experience while you learn. After you're introduced to an aspect like wide angle lenses, you are then tasked with applying the principles into an actual photograph. Along the way, you would have built your kit with a lot of the additional items and lenses needed to basically go pro if you wanted. I was really impressed with the advice and the easy to understand presentation. I've been a photographer for a few years now and I picked up quite a few nuggets of new information that have changed my shots or practices.
