Hong Kong. La division aéronautique du groupe W, représentée par André Bellecourt, conclut l'accord de joint venture avec la Tsai Industries Corp. Les Chinois avaient émis le souhait que Largo Winch en personne signe les contrats. Mais le jeune milliardaire n'ayant plus donné signe de vie depuis qu'il a quitté l'île de Tsai Huang, ils ont fait leur deuil de ce caprice. Pour les cadres du groupe W, Largo a probablement été victime d'un naufrage ou d'un enlèvement par des pirates. Pour son fidèle ami Simon, dont l'instinct de truand lui ment rarement, ça sent le coup fourré. Pour M. Tsai Huang enfin, la question ne se pose même pas : il sait pertinemment que Largo Winch croupit dans une de ses prisons...

It’s all looking rather desperate for Largo at the beginning of this volume, and it doesn’t look like all the wealth and resources at his disposal can dig him out of the predicament. What he does still have, though, is his own resourcefulness, and it’s this that that is going to make all the difference.

I’m going to avoid saying too much more about aspects of the plot as to do so may spoil your enjoyment of the previous book, so suffice to say there’s plenty of despicable goings on, individuals getting their comeuppance and plenty of twists and turns as you’d expect form Van Hamme. I’m not entirely sure of the purpose of the blunt and seemingly final dicta from the Chinese Minister on the last but one page, but no doubt there will be further implications or fallout as it’s ripe for exploitation.

I particularly enjoyed Francq’s gorgeously detailed artwork in this one. Hong Kong’s depiction is vivid, colourful and vibrant, from the bustling streets to the Peak, and he’s even taken the time and effort to draw the complicated bamboo and rope scaffolding on some of the buildings in the background that’s such a common - and astounding - sight there. Together Francq and Van Hamme are in the premier league of creative teams, so if you’re not reading Largo Winch yet then perhaps you should think about starting.

Продовження китайських пригод. Тепер це нагадує китайський бойовик, який цитує “Олдбоя”. Якщо в першому томі була інтрига щодо хитрого плану лиходіїв, то в другому весь задум виявився простим як двері - просто під дулом пістолета змусити Ларго віддати всі його акції. Була спроба створити герою психологічний злам, та не вийшло.

За такий-то омаж східному кінематографу - величезний плюс. і одночасно мінус, бо наслідувалися ще й сценарні ходи. Щодо актуальної політики - ні, не вийшло, все досить нейтрально, хоча про окупований Тибет кілька разів згадали, але так, щоб нікого не образити.

Opnieuw was Largo in een onmogelijke sitatie geraakt en opnieuw is er aan het slot van het tweeluik een bevredigend einde.... De dolle rit glijdt misschien te gladjes, het déjà-vu-gehalte is misschien te hoog,...de formule herhaalt zich... Toch blijft het een toffe, genietbare strip waarbij het uiterst gedetailleerde tekenwerk van Francq om duimen en vingers bij af te likken is....

I read this sequel to Les trois yeux des gardiens du Tao expecting to be bored, and I was. The Largo Winch adventure comics, which used to span two or three continents and involve many new characters, now seem to systematically involve the same theme: Asiatic brutality, prisons and absence of regard for human rights, ultimately thwarted by the same bunch of Westerners: Largo, his Swiss best buddy and their lesbian Chinese pilot.

wouw, ça faisait très très longtemps que je devais l'acheter et le lire, histoire de finir la série 15-16 des Largo Winch... mais voilà d'autres achats étaient passé devant... Et bien, j'ai du coup ressorti le 15, car c'était vraiment loin, loin dans mon esprit. Et j'en suis bien content. Une nouvelle histoire bien ficelée que j'ai préférée aux deux dernières.
