Extra Dirty is book number two in the Ruby Steele Cozy Mystery, which begins with On the Rocks (book one).
Ruby Steele, 30, beautiful, fit, seems just like any other ex-pat hiding out in the Bahamas and playing local bartender. But unruly patrons find out the hard Ruby is a mixed-martial-arts pro, and not one you’d want to cross.
A 40-something female tourist seeks out Ruby, desperate for her help. She was out partying all night with her friend, both of them drinking way too much and doing things they don’t want their husbands to know about.
The problem is, as of 12 hours ago, her friend is missing.
Their husbands can’t know.
The cops can’t know.
She needs Ruby’s help. And she’s running out of time.
Ruby, though, has enough problems of her own. Shadowy figures from her old life are getting close. Way too close.
Can Ruby really pay detective and take on someone else’s problems? Who is this woman, anyway? And what isn’t she telling her?
Ruby can’t keep away from a bad decision.
And this time, it looks like there won’t be any exception....
Welcome to the Bahamian world of Ruby Steele, replete with her local dive bar, her wily pet monkey, her major drinking problem, her (way) too many fights, her inability to get herself out of trouble, and her fists made of stone. Ruby’s life is a complete wreck. But there’s one thing she’s good capturing your heart.
Extra Dirty (A Ruby Steele Cozy Mystery) is book two in a pause-resisting cozy mystery/thriller series, one that will linger with you long after listening.
Book number three (Full-Bodied) in the series is also available.
Debut author Mia Gold is author of the HOLLY HANDS COZY MYSTERY series, comprising three books (and counting), and of the RUBY STEELE COZY MYSTERY series, comprising three books (and counting).

Extra Dirty is just as good as the first book in the series. I just couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting. Ruby is trying to end her alcoholism but it is definitely a tough thing to do while working as a bartender. The mystery was really good and Ruby is getting herself into a lot of trouble. I loved to see more of Zoomer the little rum loving monkey. He makes for a very good sidekick.
Ruby Steele is sucked into trying to solve another mystery in this second installment and it is just as entertaining as the first book. A tourist is missing, Ruby is trying to find out who is after her all while trying to stay out of the next fight The King wants to set up for her, throw in Zoomer the alcohol loving monkey and you've got a funny, can't put down read! I received an advance copy to read and am leaving my own opinion.
Entertaining but some poor editing and a little repetitive. Looking forward to reading book 3 and hopefully finally finding out what’s on the thumb drive!
The expression “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts” need not apply here. In Ruby Steele’s second outing, the parts are strong but the overall work isn’t. So much of the main story line here is quite unbelievable to a point of distraction. Several times the scene is set and the action that follows detracts from the story; unravels nearly to a point of gullibility on the part of the reader.
And while that sounds terrible, it isn’t completely. As I mention the parts, on their own, are strong and worth the ride. The side stories, the side quests, the pending doom or the much larger story arc each shine here in “Extra Dirty.”
It’s obvious that the author knows fighting and MMA extremely well. Those scenes are some of the most descriptive bits in both of the books I’ve read in the series. In this outing, it’s also obvious she knows very little about golf, how it’s played, or the layout of a course.
Ruby is still the likable character we met in “On the Rocks” and her charm, wit, strength, and overall badass-ery is excellent. She is definitely a hero of our time: between her inner thoughts and her actions you know exactly what she stands for.
I’ll keep reading for the bits and the sub plots. I’m curious where the large myth-arc is going.
And, most importantly, I have no idea what the password is going to be!
Extra Dirty is second book in the Ruby Steele Cozy Mystery series by Mia Gold. It takes place only a few days after the first book in Nassau in and around the Pirate’s Cove bar in which Ruby Steele is one of the bartenders. Ruby is hiding in Nassau from her previous life and is holding a thumb drive that she found linking that past life, but she cannot crack the password to get into it. Ruby is approached by an American tourist, Helen Pierce, a customer from the night before. It turns out that her friend, Bridget Hansen, who Helen had been out celebrating with, had vanished and Helen hires Ruby to find her. Ruby takes the case and gets Helen to rent a car for her use in the investigation. The car allows her to investigate their husbands who are golfing on the other side of the island. The author has a way of creating believable characters and a fast-paced timeline to make this book a page turner. My favorite, Zoomer, the capuchin monkey was present. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. #ExtraDirty #MiaGold
Two female tourists get themselves involved with the seedier side of the Bahamas. When one goes missing, the other turns to mixed martial artist turned bartender, Ruby Steele, to track down her friend.
While Extra Dirty is gritty, it didn't have the violence level of the first book in the series (On the Rocks). Yes, there was a brutality about it, but it didn't cause me to bite my nails quite so often. This did not detract from the enjoyment for me! Ruby was just as impressive as in the introductory novel. The peek into Ruby's past - just a little, not too much - was enough to keep me hooked. I cannot wait to see where Ruby takes us next.
A so-so story with a different type of heroine, but I probably won't read any other books in this series. The story line often refers to past events without enough detail to make them interesting so they seem to be just a distraction from the tale. While some characters are pretty well defined, physical descriptions are skimpy so occasionally I was lost in the complexity of the plot.
Of course, in these types of books there always seems to be a lack of control by the heroine and this one is no exception. Her lack of personal responsibility and control is most of the story, "hiding out" she manages to draw attention to herself every where she goes, from street fighting and an attack at a golf course to driving a wrecked car everywhere, not the best way to stay off the radar. Defective detectives and police also abound, as do hookers and pimps, a drug lord and a marauding assassin (a carry over character from another story, no doubt).
At the end, one of the detectives promises to delve into her background and find out everything about her. Oh no, who would have guessed that and why did defective detective bother to announce it to her? Well, we have another story for you to read...
Ruby Steele, 30, ex-MMA fighter, hides from the world as a bartender in the Bahamas, knowing too many deadly secrets and running from her past and from those who want her dead. But when a 40-something female tourist seeks out Ruby, desperate for her help to find a missing friend, Ruby will have to tap her fighting skills and comb a seedy underworld to find out if she's missing—or murdered….
The MIA GOLD series offers a wild action-packed ride in a page-turning mystery/thriller series, featuring an unusual female sleuth who is as brilliant and resourceful as she is deadly. Welcome to the dark yet endearing Bahamian world of Ruby Steele, replete with her local dive bar, her wily pet monkey, her major drinking problem, her (way) too many fights, her inability to get herself out of trouble, and her fists made of stone. Ruby’s life is a complete wreck. But she will endear herself to you long after you've put the book down.
EXTRA DIRTY is book #2 in the Ruby Steele Mystery, which begins with ON THE ROCKS (Book #1).
Extra Dirty picks up shortly after On the Rocks ends. Ruby is newly sober and back at work tending bar at The Pirate’s Cove. She gets roped into helping Helen, a tourist whose friend has gone missing. As Ruby gets deeper into the investigation, she learns more about the shady activities Helen and her friend got into during their wild night on the town. When Ruby stumbles on Bridget’s body, she becomes a suspect and is in a race against the police to solve the murder. Meanwhile, a gunman linked to Ruby’s past life as a senator’s bodyguard is after her, trying to find the flash drive the senator left behind.
The characters are funny as always, Zoomer the monkey cracks me up. He seems to know just how to save Ruby at the right times. Her Pirate’s Cove family also steps up to help save her life. Looking forward to book 3 answering the rest of the questions about the flash drive and what it means for Ruby’s future!

Wow, what a rollicking story, hard to put down. I'm glad I decided to read the first in this series before this one because it started off right from the ending of that one so you could be wondering what was going on if this was read first. In the first book Ruby finds a body in the dumpster behind the sleezy bar where she works. She is an American MMA fighter on the run from the US. She ends up having to solve the case herself putting her into some horrible situations. Two American ladies show up at her bar getting very drunk and ending up going to a couple strip bars. They are in the Bahamas with their husbands who only want to golf. They are out getting a taste of a world of booze and prostitutes they know nothing about. One ends up disappearing and the other begs Ruby to help knowing her reputation for solving the other one. Another heart wrenching case. I received this book for free from ebook discovery. I voluntarily reviewed this book. This is my honest review.
Ruby is keeping a low profile in the Bahamas as a bartender. To her surprise, a tourist comes to find her in the bar to get her help with a missing friend. They had partied all night, had too much to drink, and her friend disappeared. She wants this kept quiet, no police, no husband. Time is quickly running out!
But Ruby already has her hands full. Bad guys from her past are closing in. When the kidnapping becomes a murder, it’s getting really complicated, especially for a bartender trying to stay out of the spotlight! As everything starts to close in on her, she wonders who that tourist woman is, and what hasn’t she told Ruby about this situation?
The reader can expect lots of fighting and danger as trouble closes in all around Ruby. The action and excitement will keep the reader fully invested in the fast-moving story line. Grab your copy and dive into the action!
Extra Dirty is Book 2 in A Ruby Steel Cozy Mystery. Mia Gold has written a wonderful cozy mystery. Ruby Steel, the ex MMA fighter, is now tending bar. Ruby is also trying to get into the USB stick that belonged to the late Senator Wishbourne. I’m thinking that the book was about the USB stick, was I surprised. A tourist comes into the bar where Ruby is tending bar and wants her to find her missing friend. Ruby is in for a wild ride! Mia Gold took the characters (and me) on a breathless journey. Ruby is dodging the police—the tourist missing friend is murdered—a pimp has her in his crossfire—of course Ruby has to fight a lot of goons! Just the run of the mill week for Ruby. I really enjoyed this book, it was so good and I can’t wait to read book 3. I received an arc for free in exchange for my honest voluntary review.
This is such an exciting, action-packed mystery that as soon as I started reading, I knew I wouldn't be able to put the book down until I read the last word - and I loved every minute with humor, twists and turns and a great cast of characters. I like Ruby Steele, former MMA fighter expat hiding in the Bahamas as a local bartender in a dive bar with a knack for solving murders. If you enjoy well-crafted mysteries, don't miss "Extra Dirty", book two in the Ruby Steele Cozy Mystery series by gifted author Mia Gold. I look forward to what happens next in this must-read series. I received an advance reader copy of this book from Book Sirens and am voluntarily leaving my review. I liked it so much, I purchased a copy for my keeper library.
I enjoyed getting to know Ruby in Extra Dirty. This is the second book but the first I’ve read. She is an interesting character and it’s obvious that a lot of research went into her development. Following Ruby through her steps to solve this puzzling mystery was a wild and crazy ride offering great insights into the life of crazy, rich vacationers, strippers, and mob bosses, oh, and a former fighter with a big heart. Enjoy!

Ruby Steele is back, and her fame as an investigator brings her right in the middle of more trouble than last time. I loved this second volume. Ruby has finally realized she has made good friends, the kind that have her back. But the danger she faces this time is far more deadly than merely avoiding a blow to the head. I laughed at the damage to her car as any progress she makes in her investigation shows up as new dings on the rental car. And when she returns it, priceless! Her fighting ability improves as she faces mortal peril. But the King has not forgotten her. Nor has her past.
This book's main character is a strong female. She knows how to kick butt. All the characters are great especially the monkey Zoomer. It's well written and keeps you on your toes. Good plot with constant action. No graphic sexual content but does have some sexual mentioned. Also has a good amount of violence. I enjoyed this book and recommend it for 18 and up. This is a interesting cozy based on the dark underbelly of the Bahamas. This series is dark and gritty. It deals with drugs, prostitution, substance abuse, and violence. It’s face paced with a couple of storylines happening. It has great characters with with a developed story line. Though I would love to see more about the more positive aspects of the Bahamas and it’s beauty.

Ruby Steele is hiding out in the Bahamas. She has a drinking problem and works in a bar. Go figure! One night two ladies come in, totally drunk. They are asked to leave. The next day one of the ladies comes to Ruby wanting help to find her friend. These two ladies don't impress Ruby much, especially when she finds out where they went after they were asked to leave the bar Ruby works in. A very interesting story indeed. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
On The Rocks and Extra Dirty are very action packed for Ruby. She can. get herself in a lot of things without trying. Working a bar she meets all kind of people and does. She drinks too much and gets in trouble. She's in the Bahamas hiding from the ones who killed her old boss and because some people think she did it. But she likes to help people and that gets her in some close calls with the law. Great read and will keep you on the edge of your seat😊😊😯😯😀😀
The author hits her stride in this book. The plot is convoluted, the characters are complex, and the story is well-written. Anything and (almost) everything is tried by various characters in the book. There is plenty of action and enough questions about the character for this series to last a long time.
I received a copy of this book and decided to write a review.
Ruby is back again, sucked into solving a missing person's case. Besides that, she has an assassin on her tail, and the King is still after her to fight in a match at his underground after hours fight club. The action is just as entertaining as book 1, and the characters are interesting and likeable....even most of the bad guys! I am enjoying this series very much.
I don't really know what I think about this book. It was okay, but it lacked any character development. I thought the way the fight scenes were narrated was boring and silly, but it was not a huge part of the book. I guess I did not find any interesting or believable character in the novel. But the book moved along ok.
I came across Mia Gold by chance with her Holly Hands book - Knockout and the next book in the series Sucker punch. I enjoyed both books so tried her other series on Ruby Steele - On the Rocks and Extra dirty. All 4 have been really good stories, good ideas and good characters , certainly both series I intend to continue reading.
Book two of the series and another mystery falls at bartender, ex-MMA fighter Ruby's feet. There is more character development with all the characters we meet in the last book. Ruby solves this mystery but she is still on the line with King and hasn't been able to crack the flash drive code yet...so we still have a few open items for the rest of the series, which I will be finishing.
Still hiding in the Bahamas, Ruby is drawn into another detective case she has to solve. The action is intense in this book. Meanwhile she still has the thumb drive that is locked with an unknown password given to her when her boss was murdered. So not only does she fight to solve the murder, but she is almost killed by those that want the thumb drive.
What a thrill ride! This author loves to bring the thrill of the MMA to the homicide investigation that Ruby is doing. The truth takes a long time to find out, down some twisted back alley’s. There is never a dull moment in these books!!
found the book enjoyable with some well-written fight scenes. I really got into them. Ruby makes a great main character. She also has a great supporting cast of characters. There was humor, action, and drama I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
So this is more a part two than a book two. You should definitely read book one first. Ruby is still a mess. I liked the storyline better in this book. Two tourists have a little too much fun in Ruby's second adventure.
I received a free copy of this book for my honest review.
Ruby gets involved with Helen to help her find her friend and almost ends up on the wrong side of the law. A good mystery with lots of action and enjoyable characters. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
