17 Exclusive ALL-NEW romance stories by bestselling authors about couples who defy convention and follow their hearts.
These stories are all brand new and only available in this box set!
Love is blind, but it's never easy. A Book a Day Presents: Color Theory is a collection of stories about love that is determined not by the color of one's skin, but by the connection of two hearts. They face challenges, but together they not only overcome—but soar. These couples know the color of one's skin can't determine who a person loves. Love is so much more.
This amazing anthology will only be available for a short time, and all the proceeds will go to the education of students of color.
Renita McKinney is a writer, editor and all around book nerd from San Antonio, Texas. As an only child, books were her best friend and ultimately her passion.
I was drawn to the idea that the collection embraced mixed race couples. Really it is about black and white couples. Yes, they're mixed races and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that but I had hoped that there'd be a bit more diversity. Just a personal preference.
Let's get to the stories themselves. There is plenty of variety to be found. Athletes, writers, lawyers, older, younger, HEA, HFN, geeks, protectors, other worlds, and more. There's sappy, happy, heartbreak, second chances, and redemption. There are even a couple that step back in time. Most, but not all, are BMWW.
I had planned to read a couple of stories from authors I'm familiar with and come back to the others as time allowed. Instead, I read it from cover to cover. Some of them were really good. A couple were FANTASTIC! There were also some that were good or just OK. All-in-all, I'm glad I took the time to read each one.
The most important thing to take away from this collection is that at the end of the day, you love who you love and the color of your skin should not be what stops you from following your heart. I'm glad I read these and will visit some of the authors to enjoy more of their writing. I left individual reviews on GR in my reading history, if you're interested.
If recent events have taught us nothing, then we weren't paying attention. The only thing that can rescue us from the hate that seems intent on suffocating the world is love. Love is the most powerful ally that we have and therein lies the beauty of Color Theory. McKinney has gotten together with some of the most prolific voices in romance to tell a story. A story that consists of many voices united in one inspiring song. Love is raw, real, light hearted, uplifting, sweet, but above all it is powerful. Color Theory is the sound of LOVE.
A Book A Day Presents: Color Theory is a wonderful anthology of short stories raising funds for the education of black students.
I read Tropical Hat Trick by Piper Rayne which is a prequel to their new series Hockey Hotties coming out later this year.
Ande and Cory are likable, passionate characters that I loved getting to know and I enjoyed watching them act on their feelings. They had amazing chemistry and what started off as a weekend of fun turns into a love that we all hope to find one day.
Tropical Hat Trick is an awesome start to the Hockey Hotties series, it's peaked my interest and I'm excited to read more of these Hockey hotties ;)
A lovely second-chance romance, Coming to Sapphire Creek focuses on Deanna and Bas, a couple that first met ten years ago. Neither forgot the night of passion they shared, and when Bas returns to Sapphire Creek, to stay this time, he is determined to convince Deanna they are meant to be. As a single mother with no family support, Deanna struggled for many years. She’s hardworking, kind, and beloved by the town, but she’s never had time for romance or love. When Bas returns, old feelings reignite, and Deanna has to decide if she’s willing to let Bas in.
The chemistry between Deanna and Bas is instantaneous and strong. Both have held onto their feelings, and it’s lovely to see them find each other again. I also like Bas’s growing relationship with Deanna’s son. He’s in his late teens, and he gets a job at Bas’s new auto shop before he knows about Bas’s connection to his mom. They seem to develop a mutual respect for each other, and they have the potential for a great relationship, which is important to Deanna.
I also love the witty banter between Deanna and her son. He reminds me a bit of my own teenage son, who loves to joke and tease but also says some really sweet and endearing things from time-to-time. All of the characters int his series are realistic, interesting, and relatable!
Though this is a short story, I’m hoping that we learn more about Bas and Deanna’s growing relationships in future books in the Sapphire Creek series, as I can see them fitting right in with the other couples. Thanks so much to Carmen Cook for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
I absolutely loved this anthology of short stories!! I love how it gives a look into interracial couples and what they go through being together. The ups and downs and prejudice. And even how the other person in the relationship can even be a little racist without even understanding that they are. This can open the eyes up of a lot of people if they would choose to read this. I'm so glad that this was offered and that I was privileged enough to be one of the first to read it. This was some of the first time I've read some of these authors and I have went through and added some books of theirs to my tbr list. And of course Pioer Rayne I have read since the beginning and their story is one of my favorites. I highly highly recommend this book for everyone!!!
The idea behind this anthology is just so incredibly awesome. We need more projects like this that spread joy and love. Not to mention donate to charity.
My favorite piece was Most Likely to Remain on the List by Blair Babylon. The character Simone was in One Night in Monaco. I've always wondered how her story went on and I loved seeing her get her HEA. Kit reminds me a bit of Arthur from Hard Liquor another story by Blair. Kit isn't quite as dirty as Arthur although he certainly has some game. As always with Blair's work I wish there was more. I absolutely love her characters and find myself wanting to hear more about them. This is a lovely story. I highly recommend it and this anthology.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
A Fabulous Box Set That Brings Bi-Racial Couples Together In Love.💘🔥🌟 This Is To Support A Fantastic Cause!😍🌟 A Book A Day Presents: Color Theory
I enjoyed the majority of the 17 stories in this set. They're all brand new, never seen before releases, especially for this collection. It's been put together to raise money for a really excellent educational cause.🙏📚
Each story takes on the tale of a new or second chance relationship between a multiracial couple. For some it's straightforward & easy because colour blindness is real for some people, families & communities where as for others their journey my pose a few more problems but each has a guaranteed HEA.💘🔥
My absolute favourite was Blair Babylon's contribution: 'Ten Most Eligible Lords List'. For those that follow her books we've met Simone Maina before in Maxence's prequel 'One Night In Monaco' when she's helped by an old school friend to escape her husband!!😳 This story is set a few months later, Simone is now free of him, thankfully.🙏
Christopher 'Kit' Somerset, Viscount Greenwood has been enamoured with Simone since there teens years. He wants to see if they can rekindle their childhood romance into something much more mature. Their trials will be how to blend their lives together, hers is currently based at her beloved Mauritius whilst his has to based in the UK to run his ancestral home & all of their holdings!😔 How can they make it work? Will be lose her again?💔
I highly recommend you grab this box set whilst it's available!!🌟🎉
A Book A Day Presents: Color Theory is a beautiful anthology of 17 stories written by different authors to spread the message that love does not depend on ethnicity, just two hearts and a connection. Couples coming together amongst diversity and love. I have read to stories so far and what I really liked was it was focused on the characters, not the color of their skin. Out of the 17, 15 are new to me authors and I look forward to reading each of one of their contributions.
Coming to Sapphire Creek by Carmen Cook I enjoyed Carmen’s contribution. A small town setting with friends and family who take care of each other. Sebastian is new to town but soon learns the town will make sure Deanna will be treated right. This is a second chance romance. I liked the characters and plot. Seem like I was sitting down with friends.
Sienna’s Sentinel by Lori Ryan In this childhood friends to lover’s romance, the couple reunites when Sienna is in need of bodyguard and she seeks out her old friend Boon. Sienna is a reminder to his painful childhood which he wants to forget, but the chemistry is there and he has to protect her. Once she is no longer in danger and she no longer needed a bodyguard, he doesn’t want to let her go. enjoyed the suspense, the characters connection, and romance.
A Book A Day Presents: Color Theory is a beautiful anthology of 17 stories written by different authors to spread the message that love does not depend on ethnicity, for it is all about two hearts, and a connection.
I have always been a strong believer that love is love, and the world definitely needs more love in it. If 2020 taught me anything, is that it is important to continue pushing for change, to continue standing up for the beliefs that matter and are important to you, and not allow fear to hold you back in doing so. I will always be in hope for a world where people are entirely accepted for who they are. Like Renita McKinney’s grandmother says, ‘You aren’t any better than anyone, but no one is better than you!’
The stories gathered in this anthology are all varying different love stories, centred around stereotyping and prejudice. They are all beautifully written, and some will stand out more than others.
The thing I loved most about this anthology, was not only the basis upon the idea of how it came to be written and published, but also the vast range of participating authors. Seventeen writers, who all collectively put pen to paper, to deliver something magical. From this, I was able to read some familiar authors, but also discover a world of new writers and books.
This is perfect for someone who perhaps would enjoy reading a short story per day, or someone looking to become acquainted with new authors. It is also the perfect collection for any romance lover. Great idea, well delivered and a must have.
A.M.Kusi’s story called Fight with Me is about Cory and Brittany. Cory is black while Brittany is white. The story talks about an incident in which Brittany’s friends make disparaging remarks about black people in general while Cory looks on. Brittany does nothing about it and they break up. Months later, Cory is hired as the diversity expert for August Healthcare, Brittany’s employer. I absolutely loved this story. It was well thought out and I loved reading from both their perspectives.
Anne Welch’s story of Owen & Deja was so riveting and interesting I loved reading from their perspectives as well as the possibility of forgiveness between his dad, Owen & Deja. I loved the epilogue.
Danielle Pearl’s story about Jacob & Remy wasRemy was absolutely amazing and heartbreaking. The fact that it still happens today is appalling. I definitely want more of Jacob & Remy
Piper Rayne’s story about Sophie, Ande & Bri is absolutely adorable. Loving the girls trip aspect. Ande’s quick tryst with Cory
I absolutely loved all the stories in the anthology especially Piper Rayne’s & Sierra Hill’s. This is an amazing book about race from amazing authors. Highly recommend
So as with most anthologies some stories stayed with me more than others.
So far - my two faves that I would like to read a whole novel about are: "Tropical Hat Trick" by Piper Rayne and "Above the Rim" by Sierra Hill.
THT - When Cory and Ande meet - it is definitely a meet cute on the shuttle bus to the resort. Cory is not what you would expect and his smooth moves that seem so genuine won me over right away. Ande has been burned before, but a vacation fling...maybe so.
I liked these two right away and I'd love to read more about them!
AtR - Olivia meets Tra in a less than ideal situation. But somehow it seems to work for them. I was already hooked before she left his room and couldn't wait to see how these two would connect again. This story mirrors today's times which are hard and unfair. I appreciated that aspect of the story very much while still looking forward to the romance.
This is a charity anthology, so you can't go wrong picking it up to support the cause and I'm positive you'll find something in here you enjoy. Lots of popular authors to choose from as well as new ones, I'm sure.
I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.
I read Danielle Pearl's short story and will hopefully get to the other stories soon. Danielle is finally back with this short story in this anthology which I fully intend to read. I enjoyed this story about a young woman Remy Goodman, whose reputation has been shredded by popular mean girls. She was assaulted by one of them over a rumor that was started earlier in the summer. Remy is a lifeguard at a private swim club on the island (Long Island) before she starts college at NYU. She admires Jacob, a swimmer and her boss at the club. A situation happens in which one of the members is a 'Karen' and embarrassingly racist. Of course Jacob saw this coming while Remy was shocked and reminded of her privilege. Remy still has to face the mean girls and finds the courage to deal with them and salvage her reputation.
Quite frankly I am not surprised at racism in Long Island. I understand Remy might have been sheltered and naive but as someone who lives in the tri state area I have learned that there's quite a conservative, racist hold in several towns. This book takes the issues without minimizing them but is just a quick light story.
It's amazing that it's the year 2021 & we still don't know how to treat everyone equally, as 2020 was definitely brutal for people of color since the higher ups empowered people to show their racism 24/7, and it's something that broke my heart. I say this because A Book A Day Presents: Color Theory is an anthology written by a list of authors who gives us amazing stories where love is love, and the heart doesn't see color which I believe is so important so RESPECT! (Plus they don't sugarcoat the realities of these types of relationships) I've read several of these authors, but there are also several who are new to me, and I will be checking out their work. Every last one of these stories here are amazing, and I think we should all be revisiting them over & over & over again. It's a low price (proceeds are going to the education of students of color) for the leveled up quality so I need y'all to get to one clicking because EVERYONE needs this anthology in their lives plus you get to help others! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Blair Babylon's offering to this fabulous collection is a heart-felt and passionate tale of a couple whose heart just can't quite let the other go. Kit and Simone find their lives suddenly transformed through very different events. Will these events reshape their lives to fit something more meaningful, or will they fall back into old habits as life passes them by?
When Kit finds out that Simone is very much single again, he wastes no time in reconnecting. He wants something, but he won't push knowing what Simone has faced in her past. What he wants involves the heart and hers in particular. She remembers their time back in boarding school, but can anything more come from those good times? Will either risk their heart to keep the other, or will practicality and life drive them apart forever?
Blair gives us a fun peek into one of her recent intriguing characters. Even within a novella, I felt as if we have traversed a lifetime with these amazing characters. The story itself feels well thought out and not rushed. In fact, it feels like a well fleshed out plot with fun twists along the way, so you walk away with the same satisfied feeling that every Blair book gives you.
This is a wonderful anthology about how love isn't all about skin or ethnicity. Love is Love. This review focuses on Piper Rayne's book in this wonderful compilation from a lot of authors, Tropical Hat Trick. This is another short story in Piper Rayne's new hockey series. Ande and her two friends go to a tropical island for her to forget her cheating ex. On the shuttle to the hotel, Ande sits next to a really tall, good looking and muscular man. As they ride to the hotel, he explains that he's there for a wedding. When they meet again the next day, Ande finds out his name is Cory and he asks her to have breakfast with him. They have some sparks going and although she's never done the one-night stand, she makes an exception for Cory. When they part, they think they'll meet again, but will they? I like how the story ends and I'm looking forward to seeing more of Ande and Cory in the new series. Even though the story was short, I didn't feel like there was anything that was missing from it. I received an ARC of the book and I'm leaving my honest review. I'm looking forward to reading all the rest of the stories in the book.
A beautiful anthology proving that love is love. We need that reminder in a world where things have been falling apart. I love how these very talented authors came together to bring us fresh new stories on very important topics. I loved how each story has a very unique writing style and yet they all seemed to have a united goal prove that love knows no boundaries, colors or race. We are all unique but equals. My favorite two stories were by Piper Rayne and Eden Butler.
Tropical Hat Trick. Piper and Rayne bring a new look at a series we will enjoy very soon. I loved the characters as always and the writing draws you in after a few sentences. I can't wait to read more.
Love Jones. Eden has such a talent for heart break. I can feel my chest tighten as I read her words. My heart even bleeds with the characters.
I love the concept of this anthology, as an avid romance reader it's obvious the industry lacks diversity. I'm hopeful this will change and i will seek out more diverse authors and stories myself.
With so many stories in here, my review will focus on Piper Rayne's Tropical Hat Trick. I received an advanced reader copy of the anthology from the author and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Tropical Hat Trick is an introduction to the author's upcoming new series about a Florida hockey team, and here we meet a few of the players (if very briefly).
The story is told from Ande's POV, who is on a trip with her two best friends to get over her ex, which she does with a little help from the gorgeous and lovely Cory.
I'm hoping we get more from this couple in the upcoming series as it was such a short and sweet story!
I have a love/frustration relationship with these anthologies as I can find the stories just too short but also love discovering new to me authors this was as well as getting treated to bonuses from those I already love.
So many new to me authors and favorites that I can’t get enough of! This anthology of short stories will get you thinking about what color really means. I love the fact that love is truly color blind and you love who you love. Piper Rayne give us a glimpse into a new series in Tropical Hat Trick where Ande is getting away from the drama her ex left behind in a tropical paradise. She happens to sit next to a hottie on the bus to the resort that kicks off the best possible vacation. Can’t wait to see them again in the new series. Anne Welch made me seek her other books because of her Only Owen story. Deja and Owen had something special in high school but how they dealt with outside forces created their futures. Can they connect again? Arden Aoide spins a tale that spans decades in Through A Glass Darkly. Solana and Ryan have a chance encounter that stays with them and affects their future. Blair Babylon does what she does best in Most Likely to Remain on the List. Kit and Simone have some catching up to do and Kit wants to right the wrongs that have plagued them since secondary school. This compilation is so worth every word read. I loved them all and can’t wait to get my hands on more from these talented authors!
Blair Babylon's story of Simone, who we met in Maxence's first book , One Night in Monaco was a very sweet story of what happened to her after Max put her on a plane back home .
A month after Simone left her abusive ex husband, she finds herself at a party on New Years in New York . She is trying to figure out what to do with herself since she has been reunited with her family, and some friends from school . One of her old boyfriends finds out that she is at this party, and decided to fly over for the New year from London.
Kit Somerset, has long wondered what would have happened if he and Simone had gotten together. Now, he finds out that she is divorced..... Now is his chance !! As Kit and Simone become reacquainted and try to figure out if their future will be able to move forward together, the two of them are such a cute couple!! I found myself cheering for them, and you will too!!! A splendid addition for the Billionaire In Disguise collection, and a wonderful addition to this collection of stories of love in this book !!
I loved the idea of this anthology. Almost all of these short stories took a real look at some of the dynamics of interracial dating between black and white people. I also enjoyed the diversity of the stories themselves. The personality types and situations were different. Some are in a contemporary setting; others are set in the past. One is even a fantasy style story.
I will say that some of them were just okay though. I feel like eliminating those would have made the book shorter and crisper. Most short story collections tend to flow where I felt like this one tended to stall. I kind of had force my through sometimes. And I agree with another reviewer that they said it was interracial love stories but it was just black and white. I was hoping there were some with other ethnicities included.
Overall though, this is a great collection and I'm glad I read and purchased it.
I read the beginning of it and the reason behind this book really got me. Education of course I support education, but the eloquence with which it came about was mesmerizing. Such an awesome cause!
I read Piper Rayne’s Tropical Hat Trick and it introduced another of the Hockey Hotties that are coming in the future!
What a great sneak peek. Jet....is sexy and his character intrigued me. Having a tropical getaway and a tropical love is just what the doctor ordered.
So far, I’ve only had a chance to read one of the books in this collection, The Most Eligible Lords List by Blair Babylon. It’s a great story that follows up on what happened to Simone Maina after her escape from her abusive husband in Blair’s One Night in Monaco. If you read that book, which is a prequel to Blair’s Billionaires In Disguise series about Maxence, you might have been wondering what happened to Simone. This great short will answer that question. It’s also pretty hot. 😊
The first story I read was “In the Light” by my favorite romance author Shannon Bruno. I loved that the story, sort of a noir, is set during the 1939 World’s Fair. Iris and Oscar have an appealing chemistry. I really liked this part: “I turn to see Oscar behind me, smoke encircling his head from his pipe; he is wearing my favorite of his suits, a three-piece grey pinstripe that makes him look even more elegant than usual. As he steps closer I note that he smells of a popular cologne water-lime, greenery, and pipe smoke; that is the scent I have come to identify with Oscar Davies.”
Review for Most Likely To Remain On The List by Blair Babylon Fun story that features Simone from One Night In Monaco! I loved getting Simone's HEA! Last we heard she was fleeing an abusive husband with the help if Maxence. Now her divorce is final and she meets up with an old friend Kit. These two try to navigate a relationship while living in different countries as well as minor other woman problems. Great writing with a satisfying conclusion! I was given the opportunity to read a copy of this book.
Let me start with I'm how sad it makes me that Renita McKinney had to go through what she did as a child. I hate that that was her reality as a child. Now let me tell you I'm so incredibly happy she took her grandparents words and used them years later to let her voice and many others be heard, and they are doing something amazing with it. I was also very pleased to see authors that's I knew and more that I didn't. Books like this are always a great chance to try a new author maybe I normally wouldn't have.
Now the book or should I say books are all amazing and all very different. Everything from you normal couple in the business world just trying to make it all fit together to NHL players just being their self's. I always find it hard to give a good review of a book that is many books all together because they are all so different. However all being different is good because you never get board. With that I can honestly say I did really enjoy these and will be going to read some of the authors I'm new to.
This was a great collection of stories. Seventeen unique stories about interracial couples and their struggles. There were so many authors here that I haven't read before so it was definitely an interesting read. The one author I have read before is Piper Rayne. Their story was my favorite, it was about Cory and Ande. These characters and their story were really well written. I highly recommend this collection!
My review is for the novella Most Likely to Remain on the List, Ten Most Eligible Lords List written by the wonderful Blair Babylon. We are back with the swank group that all attended the snotty boarding school together. Kit Somerset is one of the upper crust that was "exposed" in a tell all article that let all of his dirty little...(ahem--BIG) secrets out and stated that he would most likely remain a bachelor forever. Well, not so fast! Kit has been pining for Simone ever since high school and now she is finally single. Time to sit back and enjoy the chase! If you have never read anything by Blair Babylon may I suggest that you go back and start at the beginning. She really knows how to create an original story for each and every one of her characters!
A Book A Day Presents: Color Theory is a wonderful collection of 17 stories where interracial couples not only find love, but find that people have more things in common with one another than is often thought. The most important of these is love and in the end, love wins!
One of my favorites was by Piper Rayne, which gives us a glimpse of what is to come in their next series, which centers on a hockey team. Tropical Hat Trick was an engaging story and I really liked how Cory and Ande connected and how fate ended up working in their favor!
Do yourself a favor and pick up this collection of great stories!
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**
