Out in College #8

Out in Winter

Rate this book
The grad student, the jock, and some winter fun…

Drew

My new job at the bistro is fun. The owners are good guys, and the staff is made up primarily of boisterous water polo players. I know nothing about the sport except there’s a Speedo involved, and Liam likes to wear his everywhere. Yes…Liam—the chatty, handsome, utterly charming waiter I can’t seem to stop thinking about. Ugh. Note to self—do not fall for another younger man.

Liam

Getting Drew to notice me hasn’t been easy. He’s a little intense, and he knows how to keep his distance. Something tells me he’s not immune—he’s just stubborn. Maybe a weekend of bonding on the ski slopes will win him over. And if I can get him to come out in winter, I might be able to convince him that we have a chance at something special.

Out in Winter is a low-angst MM, bisexual romance starring an oh so serious grad student, a goofball water polo player, and a little winter magic. This story is part of the Out in College series, but each book can be read as a stand-alone.

Another story in the Winter Wonderland Giveaway that I really enjoyed.

It was fun, sweet and romantic. Even the intimate scenes worked so well with the story, and I don’t often say that.

I really liked Drew and Liam as main characters. They complemented each other perfectly. Great banter and great chemistry between them.

Loved the writing in this one.

Drew and Liam are an unlikely but perfect match.

Liam is boisterous and funny. He doesn't mind being the center of attention. Everyone loves Liam.

Drew is more intense. He worries that he's too serious and too old for Liam (which is ridiculous; 28 to 23 is not an age difference worth discussing).

The sex between the men is smokin' hot, and there's definitely some heartfelt romance too. The epilogue is beyond adorable and made me believe in the the guys' HEA.

I liked this story so much! The butt plug scene is hilarious (wait for it).

P.S. Lane Hayes writes brilliant dialogue! I also love her signature endings wherein she ends the story with one character's deep thoughts that tie the last sentence into the title of the book.

From the prolific giveaway this is my second favorite so far! 🙆🏻‍♀️💜

This one is as short as it should be, really well written and has the flavor from the other books in this series. It was sweet, funny and swoon worthy. Loved the main characters and I'm happy with their HEA.

Lovely. 🥰❤

Mmm, this was a tasty treat.
I am still on the fence with this series because I haven't always clicked with Hayes in the past but this...this one makes me want to try again.

Steamy and satisfying!

Short, sweet, and sexy.

I was looking for a good opposites-attract romance, and ‘Out in Winter’ delivered! Liam and Drew couldn’t be more different.

Drew is serious, reserved, and very careful in everything he does. Liam is loud, outgoing, and goes with the flow.

Despite those differences, the two are very attracted to each other, which makes working together at the bistro a bit tricky at times. Not that either of them admits it or lets on to the other.

That is until an offer of a lift ends in a deep conversation and a hot makeout session. After that, there’s no turning back!

I really liked that along with the undeniable physical attraction, Drew and Liam’s relationship also had the emotional connection from the get-go. That the two were so comfortable sharing their secrets with each other, and made time and space for one another.

That easy connection carries their budding relationship from the restaurant to the ski slopes. Their dates during the quick getaway were adorable.

And not to mention very sexy! These two really brought the heat, and were so in-tune with each other’s needs.

Something that I wasn’t a fan of - that age was ever part of the discussion, at least on Drew’s end. Five years is nothing, and both men were still in their twenties.

It should have been a non-issue. And it seemed to feed Drew’s general cautious approach about relationships, which is the main stumbling block.

Luckily, that didn’t last too long! It takes them a bit of time to voice it, but both Liam and Drew are on the same page and want the same thing.

Though I think the time after their return from the ski trip could have been more fleshed out to show rather than just tell how the two had fallen for each other, it was obvious that they were head over heels in love.

The epilogue really sealed the deal, and didn’t leave any doubt that Drew and Liam are forever for each other.

If you’re looking for a low-angst and easy to read MM romance, I’d recommend Out in Winter!

Great addition to the series, this can be read as a standalone so no worries if you haven't started the series yet each of these books are based on a single couple with no cliffhanger though you may see a couple or two from previous books pop up here and there.

Drew is out and proud while Liam is quietly bi-sexual, his family knows and some close friends otherwise he's pretty quiet about his sexuality so when Drew finds himself crushing on Liam he thinks he has no shot because he doesn't know that Liam is secretly crushing on him as well.

for a novella length story this had a great realistic flow for the relationship.

i loved Liam and Drew (who i didn't really like in Elliot and Braden's book).

Lane Hayes really knows how to make a character you despise in one book have a great redemption in another.

I’m a huge Lane Hayes fan and read her books pretty much as soon as they come out. I was happy to see she was participating, and we were getting a shorty in a series I’ve enjoyed. This was a solid addition and it read like a full story. I enjoyed both Drew and Liam and the dance getting them to their HEA.

Thank you to all the authors who participated in this Winter Wonderland event and contributed a free read. It was truly the best way to start 2021.

That was a gorgeous little jaunt back into the Out In College series from Lane.

I loved Liam and it was also really nice to see Elliot's ex Drew in a new light.

Sweet, steamy and with all the feels, it felt like a fully fleshed out narrative even though it was around the 30k mark.

3.5 stars rounded up!

Overall, a fun installment in this series. Others in this series have been better, imo, but this was still entertaining overall.

This book focuses on Drew, the ex-boyfriend of Elliot from the previous book in this series. Getting things from Drew's POV lets us get to know him more and understand his side of the break up a little more.

And he gets his own romance with Liam, another water polo player who is sweet, outgoing, and a little bit of a goofball, but also a hot goofball ;).

Liam was, in many ways the perfect guy for Drew. He was more lighthearted and funny to Drew's more serious man persona, and he made Drew laugh much more than he did without him. He made Drew happy, which is, of course, important.

I guess my 3.5 star rating comes from not quite feeling their connection as much as I was hoping, and I think it was more on Drew's side. He was almost needlessly stand-offish with Liam that it kinda put a damper on their relationship, because while Drew had all the feelings, as the book said, his constant insistence that it would never work out for them and that they "couldn't do this" just...made the "show" part of this...a little nonexistent almost, imo.

I felt like it was all coming from Liam, who I adored, and so it kinda put a damper on this for me. Not that Drew was always like this, and these two had their sweet moments, their cute moments and even funny moments, but it was enough to put a damper on my enjoyment of this, so I had to give this 3.5 stars, although I'm rounding up because I still enjoyed enough of this to do so, and I think Liam's side of things, and enjoying his character so much, made me want to round up instead of down.

So overall, it was enjoyable and had it's enjoyable moments, and I loved Liam, but Drew honestly dragged this down at times, enough that my enjoyment of this wasn't as much as it could have been.

So I still recommend this if you love this series, but I personally feel that it could have been better.

I'm a huge fan of Lane Hayes' Out In series, and this is a stellar addition to the collection. It's hot, sexy, and sweet, with warm, wonderful characters and a believable storyline. I didn't feel rushed, and though I'd have enjoyed it being longer, I think the story worked well. Sure, I'd like to catch up with Liam and Drew down the road, but I feel like I got the full story of their romance. Definitely recommend!

All the stars ⭐️ for this one.

Liam is right, slightly off-kilter choices are the best choices.
Drew needed his life to be shaken up a bit.
I’m so happy he got his HEA.
These characters made me smile so much. So sexy and endearing. Loved the journey they took together.

This series has been very hit or miss for me, more misses than hits, and this just didn't grab me. Meh writing, and characters I didn't particular care about nor buy their chemistry.

Drew and Liam are a great addition to the Out in College series. I've read all of the other stories in the series and you won't be confused if you haven't, but I would highly recommend backtracking once you're done here. I make no secrets that Lane Hayes is a #OneClick author for me and this holiday novella was the perfect gift.

Lane Hayes weaves a low-angst, hot and sexy tale of opposites attract with a small age gap, which is my favorite trope BTW. Their conversations are funny, flirtatious and swoony. Their connection jumps off the pages and I adored their journey. No BS, just lovin' done right ❤️❤️❤️

Lane Hayes' "Out in college" series are all about college sports and this one is about skiing, though Liam, one of the MC's, is on the waterpolo team, just like Gabe and Derek were, the couple from the first "Out in college" Out in the Deep.
It's a sweet story about Drew and Liam. They both work at the new bistro, opened only a month ago by Derek and Gabe. Drew is the manager, Liam is one of the guys from the poloteam who works there.
Drew is the serious guy, Liam is kind of a goofball, but there's been an attraction between the two of them since the moment they met.
Drew doesn't want to act upon it, because he thinks he's too old (5 years older) and he's also Liam's boss.
Liam doesn't care about that. He wants to quit anyway.
So when both of them are getting away for the weekend and find out they both are going to the same place, Liam persuades Drew to meet up at the local bar. When they end up going home together, Drew knows he can't resist any longer.

This book is written in solid Lane Hayes style. It's entertaining, it's sweet with cute, likable mc's.
And there's a conflict.
I enjoyed reading this new addition to the "Out in college" series.

Out in Winter, the eighth book in Lane Hayes' Out in College series, is a delightful short read. And the cover is just perfect!

These are two college students, as well as co-workers, with a boss/employee relationship. Drew always assumed Liam is straight, but discovers that he's actually bi, although most people don't know it. When both men are in the same place for a weekend away, the fun begins.

Drew and Liam are fun together, including a lot of banter. I enjoy the way they compliment each other, as well as their chemistry. The sex scenes are hot, including a butt plug scene that goes from funny to smoking.

The writing is good, as always. The author combines likeable characters and a fun storyline with heat and humor. It's basically 140 pages of fun. And of course, I like the appearances by other men from the series.

And thanks for the laugh. Porn-a-thon! Still giggling.

Overall, Out in Winter is a good addition to this series. I highly recommend this Lane Hayes series to anyone who can't get enough of college athletes falling in love. This series is full of a variety of college athletes from different sports, which is tons of fun.

The audiobook version of ‘Out in Winter’ by Lane Hayes is purely predictable fluffy fun.

As always, Lane Hayes has created a delightful cast of characters featuring two well matched protagonists: Drew Hartley, a cafe manager at Bonne Terre, a bar tender at the Rusty Nail, and a grad student - and Liam Perez, a 5-year younger bi-sexual star water polo player and aspiring engineer.

Michael Dean once again demonstrates his 5-star outstanding narration abilities. His exuberant portrayal of Drew Hartley is particularly impressive.

'Out in Winter' is replete with wonderful scenes such as the one where Drew asks Liam, “What are you wearing?” Liam held his arms open wide and glanced down at his odd ensemble as if it were a surprise to him too. He wore Ugg boots, a read-and -black striped scarf, an unzipped parka…oh yeah, and a Speedo. “Not much”, he quipped.

Later Drew says of Liam, “He wasn’t just a breath of fresh air. He was oxygen.”

It’s clear from the outset that these two belong together. The HEA ending confirms that they do.

An audio review copy of ‘Out in Winter’ was provided by the author via IndiGo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review.
