Louis Dearborn L'Amour was an American novelist and short story writer. His books consisted primarily of Western novels, though he called his work "frontier stories". His most widely known Western fiction works include Last of the Breed, Hondo, Shalako, and the Sackett series. L'Amour also wrote historical fiction (The Walking Drum), science fiction (The Haunted Mesa), non-fiction (Frontier), and poetry and short-story collections. Many of his stories were made into films. His books remain popular and most have gone through multiple printings. At the time of his death, almost all of his 105 existing works (89 novels, 14 short-story collections, and two full-length works of nonfiction) were still in print, and he was "one of the world's most popular writers".
It's a ok book to me. 1. Stand off 2. Romance 3. Fist Fight The book is called the Sackett's vol 1 which is by Louis L'Amour. It about about a western who fight for Justice out in the old west of course back then it just be called the west. On the way of chasing a criminal down he gets help from women and a Native American who helps him the the criminal down and give him justice.
I do like Louis L'Amour and this is a good series. The characters are well developed. The history is there but spotty. We know there were Europeans before Columbus. We know much of the information he cites as probably factual but lacking history, historical history fills the void. I like this. I will continue with the series from here.
As a genealogy buff, I enjoyed the first volumes of this series because I imagined it as part of my family, Scots-irish who came over to the Carolinas and moved westward. Of course, as far as I know, our family was far more boring!
I've been rereading all of these books over the last few months. These are the books started my love of reading when I was 5 or 6 years old. My father read these books and that started my life long love of reading. The books are still entertaining.
