Since his first title was published in 2017, Philip has received multiple accolades, including Honours from the Children's Book Council of Australia, and making the list for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2018. His titles include Mopoke and How Did I Get Here?
The indomitable Philip Bunting - takes on the history of life in 32 pages and succeeds. Laconic humour and quirky, simple illustrations make the Big Bang theory and evolution accessible and entertaining. Lots to enjoy and discuss.
As cores vermelhas e bem contrastantes chamaram a atenção dela.
Another informative and entertaining book by Phillip Bunting. He manages to take big concepts and explain them very simply and with great humour, to make them engaging for all ages. This one is based on the theories of the Big Bang and evolution to explain to young readers their place within the universe. My only objection is that it presents everything as pure fact, rather than a theory - the best guess that scientists have made about how our universe & the life within it came about. A good conversation starter.
To miłe i pouczające, zwłaszcza gdy chcemy malcowi objaśnić pewne tematy nie wchodząc w szczegóły (wiemy o czym mowa… wiemy, wiemy J ).
This book is the best!! It covers the big bang, atoms, the solar system, earths history, evolution to how "you" became you! This is all broken down in a mere 40 pages, with humor and easy to understand language for kids plus fun, bright illustrations. My son loved this book. It made him think and ask questions, I love that! He has picked it every night for story time since. And as an adult I enjoyed the journey this book takes you on too. Its a fun one! A must read for kids and adults! • Thank You to the tagged publishers for sending us this book opinions are my own. • For more of my book content check out instagram.com/bookalong
An amazingly child friendly answer to how we got from the big bang to you. The scientific theory has been simplified, but is a great starting point for understanding the concepts of the creation of the universe, evolution, and gestation. This is what Genesis 1:1-2:3 is striving to be, but How Did I Get Here? does the condensed summary of creation for a young, modern audience.
This book explains evolution in a simple way. The illustrations are amazing and make it enjoyable for my child. It's a lovely first book about evolution for young readers.
I loved this book! If you ever need a book for a child (or yourself) that explains life on earth and where humans came from this should be the book that you choose. Through humourous writing and illustrations we are taken from the beginning with the Big Bang all the way to modern humans. I really really enjoyed reading this.
From the big bang to your conception, the history of the world in a few pages (or more) and some funny drawings. I am not sure how I feel about how the evolution is explained here (after all I am religious, but do recognize that God might have created us in more evolutionary stages), but it was so funny too. We had a good chuckle about Bob. And the party hat.
This book is called, “How Did I Get Here?” I really liked this book because it has a lot of pictures and it has a lot of information like evolution of fish, lizards, solar system and humans. When you read the book it is simple to understand but the things I don’t like about is that it is very short and the pictures are not realistic so you don’t really know how it looks in real life and some pictures look so fake like it’s creature from a movie. I would recommend this book for kids below the age of 14 because it looks like it’s for kids or babies. The main thing about this book is how life was created.
Does a pretty good (and funny) job of tackling a big, big concept for little brains. My son keeps asking about evolution/DNA, and I am just not doing a great job explaining it. After reading this, it's possible that he thinks we all exploded out of an orange, but I am TRYING, OKAY?!
2025 update: my 6yo daughter has been asking questions about evolution. Her now 9yo brother said, "oh! Mom! remember the book with the orange?? Check that one out and read it to her!"
So now potentially both of my children think that creation exploded out of an orange. But you know what, the book clearly holds up, because big kid remembered it over three years later!
I love this book!!!!! It is everything it needs to be in one spot. From the big bang, to atoms, to our solar system, to Earths history up until the first life form, through evolution and the development of human settlements to finally the night 'you became you' … 'and how lucky you are to be one of the newest additions'.
This is the best gift book, the best library book, the best favourite non-fiction picture book ever!! Every time I see this book I am happy.

This picture book outlines life from the Big Bang, through evolution, down to the birth of the reader. It is clever, funny, engaging, and has illustrations that manage to straddle the divide between informative and adorable. I cannot recommend this book enough for kids in the 5-10 age bracket.
