Varsity Tiebreaker is the second book in the Varsity series. I did not have much luck with the first book - Varsity Heartbreaker. But mama, didn't raise no quitter and I want to finish this series out even if my head begins to throb like Harry Potter when his scar begins to hurt.

This YA high school romance contains ~
🏀 A love triangle involving twin brothers
🏀 Cheating/OM drama
🏀 Family issues such as a controlling parent and divorce
🏀 Friends-to-lovers trope

STORY PLOT

*Disclaimer* Varsity Tiebreaker technically could be read as a standalone but it is preferred to read as part of a series to understand the friendship dynamic among the group.

Abby Cortez = main heroine, effective listener, dramatic, indecisive
Hayden D'Angelo = OM, Tory's twin, quiet, sweet, Abby's boyfriend
Tory D'Angelo = main hero, star athlete, sarcastic/quick witted

Tory (main H) was the fun sidekick that was never serious as well as rather pessimistic to fall for anyone. June (who is Luca's girlfriend and now Tory's best friend) convinces him to put himself out there to Abby Cortez (main h). Tory has always had a thing for Abby and when they are together it is never a dull conversation. When Tory was going to put himself out there, Hayden (OM) strolls in holding Abby's hand and announces that they are together. With their parents divorce and growing animosity towards each other, Abby being with Hayden only puts an even larger wedge between the boys. Abby is not much help to the situation as she is with Hayden out of comfort and is scared if she gets closer to Tory that they will end up like her parents.

MAIN CHARACTERS

⪼ Abby

In book one, June is a weak heroine and Abby was her voice of reason. The reason I gave this book a shot was I was under the assumption she would be a strong-willed heroine. Unfortunately, this heroine can hold her own with family issues but indecisive when it comes to love. It took until the LAST CHAPTER, for her to tell Tory how she felt about him. Lastly, she was with Hayden for 85% of the book, while wanting his twin brother.

description

🏆 "Abby's stellar decisions" 🏆
↠ Abby and Tory make out while she is with Hayden.

↠ Hayden planned a romance outing for her birthday. She broke up with him up as soon as they sat down instead of telling him before they left for dinner that was 30-40 minutes away. She still NEVER told Hayden that she cheated on him. Her excuse to break up was that they just don't work together. To this day, Hayden is left in the dark to the cheating. Abby nor Tory told him about it.

↠ Abby slept with Tory only a few hours after her break up with Hayden.

↠ After Abby left for the film she be starring in, she only kept in contact with Hayden. She apparently loved Tory and wanted him but never had enough courage to just talk to him.

↠ Her and Tory make up and you know what they decide to do? They have sex on their best friend's bed. Such a sweet friend. She justified the action saying her best friend would do the same to her, if put in the same situation.

⪼ Hayden D'Angelo

For 50% of the book, not too much is known of Hayden besides more superficial things such as his taste in music, his overall disposition, and generic characteristics. That is until Tory becomes closer with Abby and the secret Hayden has been holding on to about his mother comes out. Even though you do not see into his thoughts, it was interesting to see how Hayden carried himself through Tory's and Abby's perspective. He was in his twins shadow most his life and held many secrets. I liked seeing the boys work out their problems towards the end of the book!

⪼ Tory D'Angelo

I feel for you, man but only to an extent... Yes, your twin originally got the girl you wanted but that does not mean make it a pissing contest. Under no circumstance should you pursue someone that is with someone else. It is just wrong. At first the cheating wasn't physical but let's be honest he was in the cheating party very early on. He got Abby on a deeper level and they had a stronger bond but I'd say the emotional cheating started 30-40% into the book.

Plot lines that fell flat

Tory's relationship with his mother: It was very strained to the point they rarely talked, whereas Hayden and their mom could be civil to each other. It was like this for 85% of the book and all of a sudden by the epilogue they have a better relationship & are on talking terms. Maybe it was the fact the therapy they attended was a telling more than showing, but something as strained as their relationship was doesn't' magically become this great son-mother relationship.

Tory and Lucas: They were supposed to be best friends but they only occasionally interacted with one another and it was in larger group settings.

Tory's letter: Hayden crushed Tory's dreams by hiding the letter of acceptance to the prestigious school that would guarantee him on a good track to making it in the pros. They plot was solved quickly with a "I am sorry, I fucked up." Nothing more came of this plot and it was never discussed with their parents.

Overall~

I have lost interest in this book on multiple occasions and it has taken me 3 months to completely read this book. That being said, it has been a long time to get through this and not particularly a favorite of mine. It was slightly better than the first book but still quite problematic.

⇘ —————–––––––—————––— ⇙
Biggest takeaways from this book
⇗ —————–––––––—————––— ⇖

↪ The main heroine was very indecisive and leads both brothers on for 85% of the book.

↪ Cheating occurs throughout ~50% of the book mostly emotional and 1x physical.

↪ A lot of the dual POV is descriptive text on scenery or inner thoughts, so there was a lack of content as well as less showing and more telling.

↪ Several plot lines fell flat throughout the book, specifically, related to Tory.

↪ A plus to this book was seeing the characters are rather old souls with their music selection. This I loved!

I fell in love with Tory in Varsity Heartbreaker. And to be honest I kind of saw Hayden as almost a shadow of him, but only because he wasn’t as prominent a character and Tory was so in your face. He was hilarious and caring and such a great friend to Lucas and June and I just knew he would give great boyfriend. But he had so much going on in his life with the bomb of his parents relationship and I really had no idea how it was going to play out and how Hayden got all mixed into things.

Only knowing Abby as a secondary character meant I knew I liked her but I had no idea what was going on in her life other than her work. But she was so quirky and fun and worked so hard to make June work things out between her and Lucas, I wanted all good things for her. And I was so nervous knowing that there was kind of a love triangle thing going on with her. I didn’t want to not like her if she did something stupid. But she was awesome and had so much going on herself she was the perfect complement to Tory.

These two worked so well together and despite everything that was pulling them apart they didn’t let anything get blown out of proportion or make a drama where there wasn’t one. They acted so maturely and they did everything with the utmost respect and care for all the people they love. I really enjoyed every word of this book and I couldn’t put it down. The teaser for Cannon’s book has me dying to get to know him because I really don’t feel like I know anything about him but I can’t wait to.

I went into this story expecting all of the angst that a love triangle featuring two brothers could offer.

And - that's exactly what I got. In all of it's drama-filled, heart-wrenching, absolutely addictive glory.

Y'all - love triangles aren't even close to my favorite trope. I'm actually not an angst junkie. I always go in skeptical and with one foot out the door, ready to bail if my heart can't take it anymore. So just the fact that I make it to the end of the story is pretty amazing, but when I actually invest, and wrap my heart around it? Magic.

This was so good!

It helps that there was always a clear winner here. And for those of you who don't like to get bogged down in "other woman" or "other man" drama, this one is not going to work for you - for reasons that I think should be obvious. But for me - the relationship between Abby and Hayden was so off, so obviously wrong from the very beginning that it really didn't hurt my heart that much. It helped that Hayden wasn't exactly very likable for the majority of the book - making it easy to root for Tory and his unexpected emotional depth and sweet attentiveness. Tory was always so very clearly the one. And watching the two of them fight so powerlessly against their feelings was a special kind of beauty. They were adorable together. And my heart wrapped itself around them easily and immediately.

I loved how this played out. I loved the amount of emotional growth that -- really -- all these characters experienced over the course of the story. I loved, once again, that this is more than a romance and that the family love story was every bit as satisfying to me. I particularly loved how Hayden and Tory's relationship was handled here. It might have wrapped up neatly in the end, but there was nothing neat about the messy emotions they were experiencing and how difficult it was for them to work through their more complicated emotions. It was interesting and multi-layered and almost as rewarding as the romance.

But the romance.

Man, it was worth every frustrating moment during the build-up. It was worth every bump in the road and every bruise upon my heart. Adorable, sexy, and so very heartfelt - this was another hit for me! This is mature YA at its very best, and I loved every moment I spent with my nose buried in these pages. Already crazy excited for the next one! ~ Shelly, 4.5 Stars

5 "Not having you..." Stars

I love Tory D'Angelo. And Abby Cortez. And the rest of the cast of characters from Ginger Scott's latest, edgy, NA romance. This one surprised me a bit. It's a triangle of sorts that you don't expect because of the familiarity you have with the characters from book one. Abby Cortez seems like the put together, no holds barred girl but she's deeper and more thoughtful than that. The great about the story is that Tory is the exact same. Happy-go-lucky on the outside but fighting his own demons on the inside. You can feel their intensity as the story plays out in an interesting and engaging way. This author has a way to make you feel fully ensconced in her New Adult stories. Her writing is perfectly suited to the genre and her character development makes you a part of these people's lives seamlessly.

Varsity Tiebreaker is the book I was looking forward to read since I’ve finished the first book of this young adult series, because I fell in love and I had so many feels for the hero already between those pages.

Tory D’Angelo is the star of his high school basketball team. He is a player and not only on the court, but he doesn’t show his true self to everyone.
Abby Cortez is a young actress. She is a student, a partier and a trophy that her parents tries to get after they divorced. But no one seems to see her true self, and at times she even forgets who she is. It seems like she is always someone else.
They never showed interest for each other, their bantering were glorious, until now when they find out they have a strong attraction and a lot of chemistry for each other and not only that. Maybe they can also tell they are more alike than their friends realize.

“No matter how you position us, we’re the bad guys.”

I never read love triangles but for Tory I made an exception, because I wanted to discover his journey to happiness and I'm glad I did it.
I've enjoyed this story so much and I cheered for my boy from beginning to end, I hoped he could get the girl he wanted, he deserved and he loved.
I really like Ginger Scott's writing and I'm never disappointed with her books.

So this is the 2nd book in this series. It follows Tory and Abby. I do recommend reading the 1st book because there are a lot of appearances from Lucas and June.
Just when Tory is about to confese his love to Abby, she walks in holding hands with his twin brother. Let the drama comence!
It was so good. A lot of good drama. I loved getting a look into Abby’s drama with her dad also. Great book!

“You are worth a thousand suns.”

Ginger Scott has such a wonderful way with words. In Varsity Heartbreaker, her latest young adult sensation, Scott perfectly captures the teen mind and heart with an accurate voice to her characters that feel real. With writing that is so intimate and engaging, I embarked on a long-term stay into the hero and heroines’ heads where their thoughts and feelings became mine. I felt every word of this forbidden friendship on fire tale.

Varsity Tiebreaker is a tangled hero and heroine web woven into a heart-hitting tale, which shows the value of life and love, of family and true friends who become family. I was thrust into this tale as a third character where I got a front seat view to Tory and Abbys’ world. I felt the building fire between this hero and heroine ... oh did it and I burn. This book brings battles to life and slays demons, the kind of heartfelt creation that takes and leave pieces of the heart and soul inside the story.

Emotionally complex, deeply moving, messy, and oh so meaningful with compassionate characters that dance in delicious angst, Varsity Tiebreaker was everything I’d hoped for in a young adult romance and more. This tale took my tears, held my heart, and seared my soul. I was moved from the very first page as I took a trip through the teenage mind with all the love-hate vibes—feeling the fear, fortitude, awkwardness, angst, and everlasting love that resonate through this spellbinding and stunning story. I could not love Varsity Tiebreaker enough ... A MUST-READ YA ROMANCE!

A Rollercoaster Ride of emotions with secrets, Brotherhood, Forbidden feelings, A Tornado (scary!), Brewing love & A beautiful HEA! I admit, I cried a few times. Tory & Abby's genuineness is touching.
Loved them😍!

#My 1st read from Ginger & I just fell in love with her writing!
ARC received for a honest review.

This is the 2nd book in series & even though I haven't read the 1st, I can understand what majorly happened. A lot of shit problems directly connected to this one. I'm sure gonna read June & Lucas's story❤ I loved their involvements throughout this!

Tory is Lucas's bestie (June's too) & Abby is June's bestie.
Tory had grown a Crush on Abby in previous book & here, just when he was gonna confess it, she came holding hands with Hayden, Tory's twin *Ouch* It was quite a gut punch. He was hurt, but maintained his fun guy facade.

AND From Abby's PoV, through Bowling with friends then the Game day, we see how there was no spark b/w Hayden & her, they were just..easy. That spark? It was sooo apparent with Tory! But isn't it too late?

Then A *Real* Tornado caused havoc in these two's feelings for eachother + Acting practice together? Well that's Raw emotions. Yup, a disaster *chuckle*

Their families weren't in good place too, both breaking. It was sad to see Abby, Tory & Hayden struggle. But its Life. Also Hayden's not a fool, he caught the change in Tory, resulting in a strain b/w these two. & Abby's not the only reason. Years of secrets Hayden had kept.. Therapies didn't help much *snicker*
School day's were so... Awkward. Omg.

Then the game changer happened, Her Birthday! There was Drama, A kiss, A fight, Breaking hearts, Consummation (Whose? *Wink*), More strain b/w the twins..

Tory valued his relation with Hayden, didn't like the distance(Cue a Deep Talk! I'm so happy.) Unknowingly, Abby strengthened them.
But will Abby & Tory's Relation always be a secret? Life came, separating them. Will they take the chance? Take the risk for love? Or will it all fall apart before even starting?

Btw, Will Hayden be always b/w them? OR Will he became monumental in Making these two lovebirds find eachother again?

Be on the lookout for These scenes: The tornado, Her Birthday, New year's Eve and The Prom. They're Fun, Fun, Fun! (Your heart will be beating fast during them, Trust me.)

The epilogue was Beautiful❤ I'm so excited about the next Book!

Tory was my favorite thing about the previous book in this series, so I was excited to read more about him. While I still liked him, I was disappointed in him for most of the book. You would think that with how upset he was with his mother for cheating, he would do a little better than cheating with his brother's girlfriend. I hate cheating and it really brought down my enjoyment of the book. I liked the family storylines a lot more than the romance and I wish there was more focus on that. I did like how Tory and Hayden's relationship got back on track, though.

Meh…Tory was awesome in Book 1 and 2 but his heroine was silly and I needed more than what I read. Maybe HFN???

This entire series needs books set 10 years later to see where the couples are and maybe a pinch more angst.

Original review: A Novel Glimpse

Note: This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased opinion.

Not going to lie... I was both excited and scared going into this one. I am not a fan of love triangles, and one involving twin brothers made me nervous. The only reasons I read it were I loved Tory in Varsity Heartbreaker and it was Ginger Scott's book. Ginger Scott never does me wrong.

Varsity Tiebreaker was exactly what I needed it to be. Yes, there's the whole Hayden - Abby - Tory thing, but it was done well. I never felt like I wasn't sure who Abby was going to end up with. It was an emotional roller coaster for sure, but not in a bad way. It was a very good way.

I, of course, adored Tory. That kid was a good kid. He might have been a little bit of a player in the past, but he had good intentions and morals. Tory tried to do right by his brother, Abby, and his family. His character is one I would be okay with my daughter dating when she gets older, and that's saying a lot because the kid isn't allowed to date until she's thirty. ;)

Abby was a little more surprise to me than Tory. I liked her as June's sidekick, but I loved her even more on her own. Her struggles were all over the place, and it was fun to experience her working everything out in her head. I liked the choices she made. I also loved her relationship with her mom.

Abby and Tory worked well together, and I loved the connection they had. Even if it took them a while to get everything figured out. That time gave me just the right amount of angst for this mature YA romance.

As for Hayden... I feel like I got enough of his story here to not necessarily need a book dedicated book for him. That doesn't mean I don't want one! I would really love for him to get his own happy ending. He and Tory went through so much, that it would be nice to see how thing really worked out for him. So, maybe a book 4? Please?

Overall, I adored Varsity Tiebreaker. It was a fun, slightly angsty YA sports romance that made me swoon. I enjoyed every minute of it. I also loved the preview for Varsity Rulebreaker. I am dying having to wait for October for that book!

Varsity Tiebreaker is the second book in the Varsity series and I was so excited to read Tory's book! Tory was an amazing character in the first book, so I was counting the days until I could read his story and Ginger Scott never disappoints.
Tory was even more amazing than I thought he would be, he was sweet, funny, cocky, sexy and he was trying so hard to do the right thing. Abby surprised me, I though I wasn't going to like her as much as I did, but this girl was strong, funny, smart and talented. I loved these two and the way they just connected with each other. I enjoyed how Tory really saw the real Abby and how Abby was working hard to achieve her goals and her dreams.
There was so much emotional growth in their story, I loved Abby's relationship with her mother and how real and messy Tory's relationship with his brother, Hayden, felt. Love triangles are hard but love triangles with twin brothers in the mix... Whoa, so freaking hard, but I really felt like it was done very well. I wish that Abby realized a few things a little earlier in the book to avoid one situation or two but overall I loved how angsty and emotional their journey was. These two were so perfect together that the slow burn almost killed me!
Varsity Tiebreaker was funny, entertaining, emotional, angsty and I enjoyed every second of it, these characters are extraordinary and I can't wait to read Cannon's story (baseball player and the coach's daughter: this is going to be so much fun!). You can read it as a standalone but I highly recommend this series if you love mature YA sports romance with stunning strong characters, lots of banter and so many emotions.

Varsity Tiebreaker is the second book in the Varsity series, but still reads as a standalone. Characters from the first book are in this one though. I have to say after reading the first one, I wasn’t sure Tory and Abby had it in them to be in a serious relationship. Consider me shocked; these two were great together.

Tory finally gets up the nerve to ask Abby out after lots of flirting but she walks in holding hands with his twin brother, Hayden. There is obviously a love triangle, and lots of drama from this for a majority of the book. Full disclosure, there is some minor cheating in here. But, it’s hard not to root for Tory and Abby to finally get together. They have a special connection, with loads of chemistry. I loved Tory more in this one than the last one, and that’s saying a lot. He’s sensitive, sweet and thoughtful. Abby is an actress, on the verge of her big break, who is driven, but is hiding a lot underneath. Both are dealing with some heavy family issues with betrayal coming from their own parents. This part was a little hard to read, especially Abby’s father’s actions. If you are looking for young adult angst, look no further, this is the book for you. I am excited to see what’s in store for us in the third Varsity book! Highly recommend!

Tory D’Angelo seemingly had it all and a bright future ahead of him. Abby Cortez was on the brink of stardom and beautiful, she had the world at her feet. Yet underneath their popular charming exteriors Tori and Abby struggled with wanting to be seen for who they really were and to be free of the family burdens they carried on their shoulders. What should have been a simple attraction took on the needs of others, causing Tori and Abby to put what they really wanted aside only to explode in an emotional mess of guilt, desire and soul searching. This couple flirted with friendship and longed for more, never taking their attraction seriously until they had no choice. Tori and Abby battled their instinctive impulsiveness even as they tentatively pushed toward the next stage of maturity. Broken families, broken hearts these characters were depicted with compassion and clarity.
In a genre full of excellent writers Ginger Scott stands out as she takes universal feelings and customizes. She has a real connection with her characters and an affinity for reaching within their experiences, bringing their true feelings to the surface of her stories. This author uses everyday angst even as she brings the struggles of a generation into focus with truth tempered in kindness. Ms. Scott recognizes that the age group she depicts often is floundering to understand and define themselves ready to branch out with unsure and shaky feelings. Truth and consequences, empathy and sacrifice all jumbled up in the insecurities of coming of age were well put together in Ginger Scott's Varsity Tiebreaker for a great story!

*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own.*
*While part of a series this book can be read as a stand alone.*

Books like this are why Ginger Scott will always be a one click author for me!!

I was so excited when I got to the end of book 1 to learn that we’d get Tory & Abby’s story and this book did not disappoint.

It’s the kind of realistic mature YA storytelling that had my heart pounding and my eyes filling with tears. Abby & Tory have a complicated relationship and there were moments I wanted to shake them, then wanted to hug them, then shake them again. Their connection, their banter, their chemistry was beautifully real. It’s a story packed with teenage emotions and mistakes and I could not put it down. Angsty storytelling at its very best!

Special mention has to be made for their first kiss. I am a sucker for a first kiss moment & this one’s going into my hall of fame.

I received an arc of this book.

Wow, I really loved this book! I liked book one a lot, but this one was even better. Varsity Tiebreaker features the story of Tory and Abby, both strong side characters we meet in book one, Varsity Heartbreaker. To be honest, I didn't like Abby a whole lot in book one. I thought she was sort of snarky and wasn't sure how much of a real friend she was to June. Well, now that I've gotten inside her head, I absolutely love her! I feel connected to her family issues, and that made it so real, in such a sad way. Actually both characters battled some very real, very tough family issues independently and I'm such a sucker for those kind of love storys. They create the perfectly anticipated happily ever after that is so very deserved. I'm really looking forward to book three!

Chapter 1 was all it took to have me hooked! My heart was beating fast, tears in my eyes and I knew then that there was no way I was putting this book down till the very end!

My first Ginger Scott book was Varsity Heartbreaker! I didn’t read it till after release but after being introduced to Tory I knew I needed his story and I could wait for it! Let me tell you this; I am NOT disappointed and this is a book that MUST be read!

I love how Scott focuses on the story! She gives you growth and through her characters you learn valuable lessons like loving who you are, never being ashamed to chase your dreams and to always hold on to hope!

I will say though that the romance in her books are also steamy and well worth the wait! The fire between these two is felt but it’s what they choose to do with it that matters!

I loved that these two “see” each other! There’s a level of understanding and it’s beautiful to see how each of these characters has grown!

Gotta gush one last time and urge you to read this beautiful story! You will not regret it!

I loved Tory in Varsity Heartbreaker and fell more in love with him in Varsity Tiebreaker! Tory is all about flirting, basketball, and being funny instead of letting his emotions out to anyone especially since his life has be flipped upside down recently. While Abby is all about being upfront and saying it how it is while working toward her goal of stardom, these two constantly go at each other. That is until things start to change when Tory starts be around Abby more now and that friendship starts to become blurry and he wants more with her. Accept what can he do when his twin walks in with her and announce they are together? Tory and Abby have a connection, but will they address it and take a chance or will they let being comfortable and not wanting to rock the boat determine their futures? This book was WAAY more swoon-worthy than the 1st one. Loved loved loved that it was told in dual POV as well whereas the 1st one wasn’t.

I was so team Tory since Varsity Heartbreaker.

When Ginger Scott pulled out this storyline about Abby dating his twin, Hayden with Tory acknowledging his feelings and I was scared about a love triangle that would give me whiplash. But it wasn’t. Actually it was more than this, a senior year for the main characters filled with angst and drama related to their age, expectations about their future and dealing with their families’ drama.

Tory won me over without really trying, being a good friend and also trying to help his brother to deal with their parents divorce. He has such a big heart and is loyal to his friends and especially his twin but as the days passed by seeing the girl he was in love with was hurtful and breaking his heart a little. Damn if mine wasn’t. Torn between two.

Abby was just being and had some issues on her own that could affect her career as an actress. This girl was definitely promised for a bright future and being with Hayden was natural and easy without the butterflies she could feel with Tory. She was a sunshine with a strong hint of sass, bold and comfortable with her body.

Can I say it was driving me insane? Definitely but still it kept me captivated until the end.

I was rooting so hard for Tory and Abby, waiting for the moment when they would meet in the middle and stop beating around the bush. Each moment captured something special and strengthened that bond. There was so much love between these two and it melted my heart.

The characters were well developed and explored topics in greater depth and they were more insightful than the adults sometimes.

I appreciated the way the author managed to give a voice to these young souls, honest, raw and passionate. It reflected their own reality and made it believable and relatable to the readers.

As a long-time fan of Author Ginger Scott’s writing, I’m never surprised by how much I enjoy her novels. Varsity Tiebreaker is the second book in a series, however, it is can be read as a standalone novel.

Tiebreaker is Tory D’Angelo and Abby Cortez’s story. They have had a love-hate relationship through much of high school, but in their senior year, the air shifts and they suddenly view each other in a new light. Both of these characters present themselves as the cool kid who everyone else wishes they were, but inside, a storm is brewing. They are filled with the same doubts, questions and hurts as their classmates. To me, that is the secret to Ms. Scott’s young adult characterization. She instills her wisdom of hindsight into her characters without making them pretentious or precocious. When I read Ms. Scott’s young adult books, I am reminded of my own wobbily emotions in high school, and I recall comments made by the high school teachers with whom I’ve worked.

Young adult fictions fans need to hop on the Ginger Scott train, and especially need to read Varsity Tiebreaker. It’s realistic in portraying people and life’s imperfections, new love, and all the other little turbulences of the teen years.

This series is just another example of why I love Ginger Scott! She is my go-to author for fabulous YA romance. Her characters are real with real life struggles. She has mastered the balance of navigating that age where they’re not kids anymore, but not quite old enough to be considered adults.
Varsity Tiebreaker delivered on the angsty young adult drama. I was so excited at the end of Varsity Heartbreaker to see that Abby and Tory would get their own story. Although this can be read as a standalone, I recommend you read the first book too. In the first book you get a glimpse of Tory and Abby. To see their characters develop and understand why they act the way they do is fabulous.
Tory and Abby truly see each other, and it took them a minute to navigate their feelings, but it was totally worth it!
I wouldn’t call this book a true love triangle. To me, there is a clear winner the whole time it’s just a matter of them navigating everything happening in their world. Tory was so sweet and attentive, and Abby has such a kind heart and is a great friend. Tory and Hayden are dealing with so much family drama and Abby can relate and empathise with that. But Hayden was never THE ONE.
I loved watching these two navigate all the overwhelming feelings they had. And when they stop fighting against their feelings...gah it’s everything!
This book is so much more than just a romance. In addition to the push and pull between Tory and Abby, the relationships between this group of friends, and the relationship between the D’Angelo brothers is awesome. I can’t wait for more!

This is the second book in the Varsity Seris is Tory and Abby's story. Abby is a girl who has her future planned, she wants to make it as an actress. She has become a little jaded with the idea of falling in love, because of her parent's bad marriage. She really doesn't even do boyfriends. Abby and Tory have a love hate friendship where they kind of bond over their similar attitudes about love. Tory realizes that he is attracted to Abby a has change of heart and decides to ask her out. But the plan is aborted when she walks in with his identical twin brother, Hayden. Hayden and Tory may look identical but they have very different personalities. Tory is quite the hookup artist but Hayden has never had a girlfriend. Tory's love for his brother causes him to put his feelings for Abby aside. But it is not as easy as he thought it would be. When I realized the predicament Tory was in I knew this was not going to be pretty. But leave it to Ginger Scott to find a way to make it interesting.

The moment that Salvatore "Tory" decides he is willing to put his heart out there and finally ask Abby out on a date is the same day that she comes to his house on his twin brother's arm. Dejected and disappointed he puts his feelings on hold. But when Abby needs help running lines for her upcoming movie, Tory steps up. Can two people who obviously have feelings for each other work closely without those feelings coming to a head? Or will Tory make a move on his brother's girl in spite of the harm it will cause? This was the best set up for a lover's triangle that I have read in quite some time. Add in the inner turmoil that all three parties bring to the table and the reader can completely understand just how hooked together the triad becomes. Not only are the characters easy to fall in love with, but add in the complexity of the baggage of both families and you have the perfect combination of angst, heartbreak and family dysfunction. This was an awesome book!!

My first Ginger Scott book was Varsity Heartbreaker where we were first introduced to Tory, Hayden, and Abby! This book has all the feels that a love triangle should provide. The kicker though: it’s brothers vying for the same girl.

I fell in love with story in this one! There was very evident chemistry between him and Abby, and you couldn’t help but want to see them together. Tory found a soft spot in my heart when he protected Abby at the school at the basketball game where chaos erupted.

I also had a soft spot in my heart for Abby with everything she was going through in her personal life. You wanted to see a happy outcome for her, and deep in my heart I wanted that happy ending to be Tory!

I loved the return of the characters we fell in love with in book one l, and I am already looking forward to the next book in this series.

Varsity Tiebreaker is not only the first from this series but also from this author that I have read. I loved the story of Tory and Abby, with all the emotions you find with teenagers going through tough times while in school. I look forward to reading more from this series as well as from the author.

2.5* - Not really keen on the theme of a lurve triangle with om, especially when it bro v bro but having said that it was a pretty decent read. I picked up a couple of typos like 'long gape', which I assume meant 'long gaze' otherwise that sentence makes zero sense. It only happened a few times but goes to show how little it takes to shake a reader out of the world the author is trying to weave. Not liking that.
