Snowman Paul is back, and this time he's down for a duel!

Yossi Lapid's sweet series about the friendly Snowman Paul is one of my fave kids series at the moment. It's short, fun and teaches some valuable lessons! It's only natural for me to continue to snowball my way through the series (haha, puns! I'm hilarious...).

Bill, a buddy of our lead character, builds Snowman Nick. This snowman looks like he's not the most friendly guy, especially since he has a giant stick. And just like that, Snowman Paul and Snowman Nick are set for a duel! Everyone is excited with banners waving and animals gathering around. But there's quite the trick about this duel... You'll have to read to find out the surprise twist!

These books are colourful and have a soft illustration style. I really enjoy it, especially since it doesn't take your attention away from the narrative. It's not a style I see many books have either, so the uniqueness level is great! Add in the super cute stories that Snowman Paul has to offer, and you've got yourself a real winner!

I think this is an excellent addition to any children's picture book shelf. These stories are absolutely lovely!

Four out of five stars!

I received a free copy of this book from the author, Yossi Lapid, in exchange of an honest review.

This was a cute story that young kiddos will love. Two snowmen are ready to engage in a battle, but the bully loses out in the end! The illustrations are well done and children will like the rhyming nature of the text.

4.5 stars on the blog.

Again, this book has wonderful illustrations and the reading rhythm was velvety smooth, just like all the other Snowman Paul stories I have read. Each book, so far, has had a moral and I love that, but this one fell into the hmm category for me... hence the half star deduction. Although the ending was very nice.

Good friends are sometimes difficult to deal with. Especially when one friend decide he or she wants to dominate the relationship and prove that he or she is better than everyone else. Bill is that kind of a friend. He is always trying something new to show that he’s the best. So, when he decides that his snowman, Nick, is the strongest and the toughest because Nick has a stick, a challenge is issued to Snowman Paul to meet Snowman Nick at midnight for a duel. Snowman Paul agrees to the duel but only if they follow the rules from the very important book, “Rules for Duels in Snowman Land”. It’s quite a big deal to have a Snowman Duel, and word spreads fast. Snowman Paul isn’t worried, even when Snowman Nick arrives with a helmet, armor and a stick. How can Snowman Paul possible defeat such an armored opponent?

Friendships are hard, but if everyone plays fair and treats the other friend with respect, than friends can have a long and beneficial relationship. Friends are meant to be together in good times and in bad times. Snowman Paul’s message is to play fair and then you’ll always have good friends. Yossi Lapid’s colorful picture book story, “The Amazing Snowman Duel”, is another charming addition to his snowman series. Like his other books in the series, this one tells a story with characters that are good role models for young readers. Snowman Paul certainly has a lot of lessons to teach his young friends as well as his many young readers. Play fair and life can be fun, friends can be fun.

This book about a duel between two snowmen written in humorous poetry that will delight children, with eye-catching fun drawing, is a great addition to the so-far five book series about Dan and his friendly snowman Paul, in which Paul gets involved in many funny adventures.
Dan's friend Bill was up to tricks again. He had a fierce looking huge snowman called Nick who held a stick. Bill challenged Dan's snowman Paul to engage in a duel with the giant Nick.
Dan objected because Nick was so tall that it wasn't a fair fight, but his snowman Paul agreed to the duel as long as the two snowmen followed the "Rules for Duels in Snowman Land." And so the duel was advertised for midnight. Many snowmen came to see the duel, as well as many animals and people. They came by every conceivable means, even by ship and by air.
Dan was afraid to watch. He feared that his pal Paul would be hurt. He and his dog covered their eyes. But children hearing or reading this comic tale will not cover their eyes, and will keep them open to find out what happens next and why it does.
I received this book for free under the condition that I write and honest review and I enjoyed reading and being entertained by it.

Bill was not really so nice to Dan. To top it off, he decided to make a new snowman and challenge Paul to a duel. Dan is not at all to thrilled. As much as Paul tries to comfort him, he is nervous. He does not want to lose his snowman friend.

Without giving too much away, after all of the worrying, the duel was super funny. The kids had a great laugh and we had an amazing story to tell. I think this book is a great introduction to conversations for kids. There are ways to have a fight and to use your words.

A snowman fight in a ring? Wow what a match that would be. Bill, Dan's friend, challenged them, Dan and Snowman Paul, to a fight. It would be in a ring in the park according to the book of Rules in Snowman Land. It was to be at midnight. Animals came by ground, sea, and air for the bout. Airplanes with banners went near and far.
Nick came with his helmet and armor and stick. Where is Paul? To find out the answer, the book is waiting for you.
I was gifted this Book for an honest review.

The Amazing Snowman Duel: Snowman Paul Book Series, Volume 5 is a children's picture book written by Yossi Lapid and illustrated by Joanna Pasek. There's a new snowman in town, and he means trouble. Bill was pretty proud to show off his new friend, Snowman Nick, to Paul and his friends. Nick was much bigger than Paul and muscular as well, plus he had a stick. Bill cheerily announced that Nick was challenging Paul to a duel that night, while his giant snowman posed menacingly behind him. Surprisingly, Paul didn't seem all that worried about the challenge or that evening's battle. And when Bill taunted them about not backing out, Paul assured him that the bout would take place, but under Snowman Land rules, which did make Nick pause and think a bit. Everyone knew about the midnight bout; there was even a plane flying a banner to announce it. There in the snowy clearing, a boxing ring was all laid out, and Nick was there at midnight, looking ferocious, armed and ready -- but where was Snowman Paul and could he really survive this fight?

Yossi Lapid's children's picture book, The Amazing Snowman Duel: Snowman Paul Book Series, Volume 5, blends action and atmosphere as the tension mounts before Snowman Paul’s bout with Snowman Nick. Challenges are something all children run into at some point or other, either in the schoolyard or during playtime, and Lapid's Snowman Paul's response to Nick defuses the situation beautifully. The author and illustrator, Joanna Pasek, have created an exciting, action-packed story that works so very well. Pasek's watercolors are masterful. She imparts depth, atmosphere, and a sense of wonder in each winter-themed panel. You can feel the frosty air, sense the weak sun as it tries to warm the snowy hillsides, and watch as the day passes and the shadows lengthen into the nighttime setting for the duel. The facial expressions on her people, snowmen, and the animals who arrive for the duel are spot on. Prepare to spend some time with this book; the story addresses an issue that really matters to kids, and each picture is a delight to peruse and immersed yourself in. The Amazing Snowman Duel: Snowman Paul Book Series, Volume 5 is most highly recommended

The Amazing Snowman Duel is a picture book by Yossi Lapid, and illustrated by Joanna Pasek. It features Snowman Paul, who has an upcoming fight against Snowman Nick. The subheading on Amazon describes the book as “a humorous tale about friendship, bullying and rejecting violence”.

For me, I can see the bullying aspect, but I personally don’t see how the book is “rejecting violence”. The bully of the book challenges Snowman Paul to fight his own snowman. And they all show up to battle at midnight. So the snowman simply stare at each other, rather than actually fighting. For me, I don’t see how any of that is “rejecting violence” because, if it’s just staring at each other, there’s no actual violence in the first place. And, both parties agreed to do this duel, so there was no real “rejection” of the duel. If I’m considering this from a “real world” perspective, I don’t think this would prevent kids from violence or teach them not to fight. Because, if I’m being blunt, both snowmen were absolutely up for it. I reread it a second time the next day, because it felt like I was missing the point of it. And I get that the author is trying to make a statement for kids to reject fighting, but the actual content of the book says the complete opposite, in my opinion.

Other than that, it was an okay book. The rhyming sounded okay and made sense to me. The majority of the words were pretty common and a lot of kids would understand them. However, if a kid is reading this to themselves, there are a few words that they might not understand.

The real gem of this book is the images. There’s a lot of really good work with the illustrations, and the artist has done great with the posing and figures of each character, even the animals. One key thing I love about the scenes is the snow textures and colours; there’s so much detailing in it, even though a lot of it is a background element. I like it a lot.

To summarise, I didn’t like the story, and I feel like maybe I’m just not understanding what the author is trying to say with it. However, the illustrations of the book are absolutely beautiful and the artist did such incredible work.

Charming artwork with a storyline that’s perfect for spurring family conversations.

Snowman Paul meets Snowman Nick. He’s bigger, has a stick and looks MEAN. Sensitive littles might be cautious about him on the first read thru. The two snowmen and their friends are drawn together at midnight for a duel/fight. This is a real kids book so there’s no violence and an H.E.A. ending definitely takes place for everyone to enjoy multiple times. Occasionally labored rhymes but 5-6 year olds will love it. Turn your iPad, tablet or Kindle into the landscape position to get the best view on an e-copy; works great📚

As soon as the twins saw two snowmen on the cover we had to read it immediately. They recognized the characters and by reading Duel on the title made them jump into the pages. Even I was curious. I remember reading the first volume of this collection and thinking about that mean kid and here he is with a snowman of his own. Oh. What excitement. And the end was just what I was hoping for. Congratulations again to Joanna and her amazing l illustrations which are more and more fuller and diverse in sceneries.

A kid decides to make a fighting snowman who can beat Snowman Paul, so a duel is arranged. Can Paul possibly beat tough snowman Nick, a well-built fellow with a stick?

Like all Snowman Paul books, this one is made up if clever rhymes that feel natural and spunky. The illustrations are bright and cozy with just the right touch of humor. This one teaches a little lesson, but while kids can certainly learn about how to deal with bullies from this story, it's also a lot of fun. More Snowman Paul, please!
