The year is 1988, and the old Crowford School building is about to be knocked down. Before that happens, however, three schoolchildren are determined to discover the truth about an old legend. Does the ghost of a murdered woman really haunt the old school? And if she does, what does she want from the living?
Eleven-year-old Bradley Firth has a particular reason for wanting to prove that the ghost is real. His own mother is desperately ill, and Bradley wants to believe that she can come back to him if the worst happens. As he and his friends venture into the abandoned school, however, they have no idea that they're about to get caught up in a fifty-year old tragedy. They might also be about to uncover a disturbing secret about Crowford's past.
Who really killed Eve Marsh all those years ago? Why does she seek vengeance on all those who enter the school? And can Eve's soul be put to rest before the school is finally demolished?
Amy Cross writes novels and short stories in a number of genres, mainly horror, paranormal and fantasy. Books include The Farm, Annie's Room, The Island, Eli's Town and Asylum.
Crack ending! She was lax on her typos though. MS. Cross had gotten so much better in that area until now but In this book she seems to have forgotten to proofread before she published, which would have prevent all of these pesky little mistakes.
As for the book itself: the story was different, as far as the twist goes. The haunting has been told before, a ghost haunts the building where she was killed, waiting for revenge from her killer. The end was different than your usual ghost story though.
I've been thinking a lot about Ms. Cross' work and although she has a lot of fans and followers, including myself, she really could improve in the area of character development. Before her story even starts to take off, if she'd describe the location, the main character, his or her character traits, looks, behavior, way of dress, best friend or other main characters, etc, as well as the time period taking place it would add great depth and dimension to her stories. I think this is vastly lacking from her books, and would help turn them into full length novels also. Character development is an art form that most authors find using an outline or a list of characteristic helpful to work with. Incorporating these characteristic into the characters thought the story is crucial and adds flair and depth to the authors next stage of development as an up and coming star. I think if Amy slows down and takes time to proof her work (since she does not have an editor) and begins adding some character depth, we'll begin to see her evolve even more.
I do hope she reads these reviews and takes the suggestions we give!
I actually hated the fact that Bradley's mom just wouldn't listen to him at all. Although now I'm still curious who her actual father was?? Hopefully I'll find out in one of the next books.

The old school in Crowford is to be demolished, but 3 of the young boys who attend Crowford's new school building, which lays in front of the old, want to visit the old school and its legendary ghost Eve. For the past 50 years since her violent death, several people have entered the old school hall where she resides, and were never seen alive again. Time is running out for the boys if they want to see the ghost of Eve because the premises are due to have the great ball of destruction knock every last brick to the ground. What will they find, will they live to tell the tale? Will Eve strike again?
Book three in the Crowford series takes place in 1988, though the past is tightly woven into the story.
It's fast-paced, packed with mystery, with believable characters that highlight both the good and bad in humans.
The errors are a little annoying, as are the switches in spelling and use of both English and American words. However, I did enjoy the story, which tackled some important issues.
I started with the Ghost of Crowford instead of the first and second book of the series because I enjoyed the premise more. I also like reading about children protagonists. The book has its faults. Although they did not take me out of the atmosphere for any of them except one that threw me off, there were typos. The twist was somewhat predictable. It also was not scary or horror in any way. I was reading it at midnight and was able to fall asleep, no problem. The ending felt a bit rushed, but I honestly can't think of how it could have ended in a slower, more detailed manner.
What worked? Well, the story. The characters were thoroughly believable, and you get invested. I wanted to know what happened next and why. The children were truly remarkable, with their unique way of thinking. You also get a fascinating and invested mother figure. It was also really captivating, hence reading it in only two days.
This was a naive sort of ghost story, with the characters and plot lacking any kind of depth. The tale could have been really good, as the idea itself was sound but the delivery left a lot to be desired. Still, the story was okay and it helped pass the time during "lockdown" .
This book was great! The characters were believable, and they really came to life. The story made you feel all kinds of emotions. There were enough twists and turns that you never knew who did it until the end. I recommend this book to everyone who loves a good mystery.
I’ve recently become a fan of Amy’s books but they all have so many typos! The stories themselves are really gripping & enjoyable, but the sheer amount of typos in the book makes it hard to read at times and really lets the book down. I’ve read a couple of her other books which are also full of typos too - they definitely need a proof reader before publishing!
A creepy abandoned old school building is rumored to be haunted. In the 30s a female teacher was stabbed to death in its halls. A group of young boys decide to try ghost hunting to see if they can rid the town of the ghost before the building is torn down.
So far I've liked this book the best in this series.Amy Cross has taken two story lines and meshed them together perfectly. And she threw in a dustbuster to make it really interesting.
Amy cross you have so much talent and imagination I am looking forward to the next book in this series. Tell you what you keep writing them and ill keep reading them annoying them sincerely Christine Dunne Harlingen texas
Unlike so many stories of this type this one kept you guessing until the end. It was both a good and bad thing. I had lost sympathy for the protagonists by then.
This portion of the Crowford saga introduces new characters but also includes some from the previous volumes of the series. History, betrayal, illness, and youth combine to provide pretty decent continuation. I will definitely be reading the next book.
Okay, so I'm back into it and wanting more about the town and its characters. I really wish the editing was better, but as an avid Kindle book reader, I'm used to poor editing. On to book four!
A ghost haunting a school where she was killed. She can't remember who killed her but misses her love. With the help of a student she remembers who killed her and gets to be reunited with her love. Not a bad story. Book 1 is still my favorite of this series.

A very good ghost story! I've already read the first and second book by the author as well as this. Such an awesome writer with a great sense for ghost stories! I'm going to read all of the stories.
I like the stories in this series so far. However, there are several spelling and grammatical errors that I’ve come across while reading. There are also instances where the names of the characters were mixed up, which causes confusion and pulls me out of the story.
This was an interesting read. When a woman is murdered in a school, many think they know who committed the crime. However, decades later, the truth is about to be revealed, but not before the ghost exacts her revenge on a few others who dared to enter the old building.
The stories in this series have been very interesting. There are soooooo many typos and the character’s names get flip flopped in the last few chapters, so you do have to follow along quite a bit. I am hoping the author used a different editor for the rest of the books 😳
Really enjoyed this one, looking forward to starting on book four. Great storyline, characters and twists in the tale. Definitely do not want to live in Crawford.
