My name? You can call me Carson Grieves. I’m a con artist, a grifter, and a consummate liar. My biggest lies are the ones I tell myself. Like how I’m a strong, independent criminal who doesn’t need a man.
But I do.
More accurately, I need one man. Eric Smallman. The first boy I ever loved. The boy who broke my heart. The man I haven’t spoken to in fifteen years.
Believe it or not, job #4 for and the boys is for me to get Eric back. Or as Breck named Operation Get Carson Laid.
Charlie blackmailed the others into doing his bidding. What Charlie holding over me is worse than blackmail; It’s guilt. Even from beyond the grave, the bastard thinks he knows what’s best for me. Unfortunately for me, sometimes he did.
Assuming Eric will even speak to me after all these years, if I’m going to have any chance with him, I’ll have to come clean about my past, bare my soul, and risk my heart. Piece of cake.
Well, this should be fun.
Sometimes your past catches up with you, sometimes you catch up with your past.

Reread 2021-10-07: Everything still stands. Love, love, love Carson!!!
Original review: First of all, I love this series. I love it so much it's crazy! I love the gang, I love the humor, I love the mystery. I love everything. I can't wait for this series to be fully released so I can go back and binge it all again.
This is Carson's book. One of the books I have been looking forward to the most honestly. Carson has been a mystery through the whole series so it was really nice getting to see the real Carson. Getting to know him.
This book is a little more subdued than the others in the series. It's taking it's time for the mystery to unfold, focusing on Carson coming to terms with his past and reuniting with his first love. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
With that said, I need the next book now. That ending...
My mind is still stuck in the book, so this will have to do for a review for now.
Honestly, these books have a lot of grammatical errors and I DON’T CARE. Me. Proud member of the grammar police force, BECAUSE THESE BOYS ARE FUN but this one had way too many! The main reason I gave it two stars, was because the author forgot that she already revealed something to one character earlier and made it sound like this was the first time! TWICE! Thank you for ruining my favorite character’s book🙂
Not a lot happens and it was a bit slow, which was mostly good for the plot because otherwise it wouldn’t be realistic, but I am in a bitchy mood still and wasn’t up for a family reconciliation story. The romance was good though, second chance at love for childhood sweethearts, whose parents got married and they became step brothers even though THEY WERE DATING FIRST. What a bunch of aholes! Some people might call it slow burn because they kiss at 40% or something but they would be WRONG; it had a good pace, though. And Carson is my favorite but his book was….meh!
At this point, I really love these guys and have grown attached to them.
Unfortunately, it seems to me that with each book in this series, there is less and less emphasis on cons. It's a pity, because it is one of the things I liked this series for and which I appreciated very much in the first book. There is basically no con in this one, or at least ran by our well-known team, and that's how this story was planned. I missed it.
Carson and Eric compensated it a bit. They make such a cute couple and fit together so well. I really like stories about second chance, and that's what is this story about. But don't expect too much relationship development. As in the previous books, everything happens rather quickly. Maybe even a little too quickly considering that Carson and Eric have not seen each other for many years, they have grown up at that time and are no longer the same people as before. But for such a long break, they make a surprisingly matched pair.
There is probably only one book left in this series, I will miss this group of guys. I was curious about Carson's story and wasn't disappointed.
I was so excited for this fourth installment in this series. I've enjoyed this series so far, so I was excited for more and wondered how Carson's story was gonna go, and what we were gonna find out about him, since we don't really know much of anything about him besides him being a con man before this book.
I was pretty into this from the beginning. I wanted to see Carson (aka Jake) and Eric interact, it was hard to put it down, when these two finally met up I loved it.
But....near the end it did drag a bit for me, and I think that was because of the inclusion of the plot point that because it took away, for me, the story of these two.
Now maybe if it had been set up as them trying to take them down from the start, with the romance included, as it's been for the past three, I wouldn't have minded that much. But in this one it was set up like the sole purpose of all this was to get Carson back with Eric, nothing else. And for awhile it was just that - and although the other guys didn't have as big a role and it felt like didn't have to be there, it was still just fun and entertaining and interesting.
But throw in this side plot, that also kinda was dealt with fairly quickly in the end, and I just didn't much care for it, and it kinda took me out of the story near the end at times. Especially as it kind of took away from Carson and Eric's relationship, and it felt like they both had everything resolved before the end and there wasn't as much of a focus on them anymore, and so the ending was just this side plot that I didn't care for with not much romance.
And also I felt that their ending was kinda abrupt. I wasn't expecting it to end when it did and I was just expecting them to be a little more settled into things, and into their HFN/HEA when this ended and it didn't feel that way.
The epilogue that focused on Leo was interesting and who showed up was definitely interesting and something I'd been suspecting since like the end of book one. I wonder if who shows up is the same person as the "interested party" person. It would make sense.
So overall, for the majority of this I really liked it, it was really good and interesting and Carson and Eric were so good together, and they had great chemistry, but then the last portion of this just lagged for me and didn't round out as nicely as I would have liked, dragging the story down.
It's interesting, usually it's beginning of stories that drag for me, or are a little slow, but it was the opposite with this one, which actually pulled me in from the get go, and it was the ending that dragged for me and was a little slow.
But overall, a good fourth installment, with a good hook in the epilogue to keep the readers excited and interested in the last installment. I still recommend this to those who have been enjoying this series so far.
It's no secret that I love this series and this book is not any different. We are back with the whole gang, this time for Carson!
I've been looking forward to his book since the beginning because he's such a mysterious character. The previous three books have given us the barest hints about him and I've wanted to know the 'real' Carson since forever!
Eric and Carson have amazing chemistry. They are so intense together and I loved every second. This is the fourth book in the series and cannot be read as a standalone. I want Leo's book ASAP, especially after that reveal at the end, which confirmed my suspicions!
I think there was a spot in my heart, in my soul, that belonged always and only to him.
If you love heists, action, Charlie's Angels but gay (gayer?) and a badass crew that keeps increasing in number, then you'll devour this series.

I was very much looking forward to this one but it was ultimately disappointing. I thought Carson would have more excitement and the mystery was incidental to Eric trusting that Carson actually had actually just come back for him and he just stumbled on the mystery and saved Eric and his dad just in time.
There was almost no angst but I did find the circumstance around Carson running away somewhat believable on all sides since every one was coping with grief and either being a kid or an adult at the time. No one was thinking straight and Carson felt the most rejected and slighted especially since he was already raging at the world. Since, he just kept building walls around himself to keep pain out, it was easier to stay away.
Eric was pretty aimless it seems and needed some stability which he got a false sense of through the narcissist Ryan. His self esteem was shot and he was too trusting.
Like I said, not much really happened except talk about the past and epiphanies and tears. It looks like the whole lot has family now though, so there's that.
Although how someone could be so manipulated by another person, I do not know. The antagonist had manipulated one of the MCs for so long that I was annoyed whenever he came on page.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed this and I'm ready for the book I'd been waiting for all series: Leo and "Mystery Man who was revealed"'s story!!!
It obviously had an original storyline (based on how it's edited and from the existing blurb that has nothing to do with the current plot) that changed quite drastically.
Carson's reasons for staying away are lame. They should have been better. There should have been more conflict and hard feelings before they made up. Eric should have been madder.
There's a lot that I don't believe or buy, and the editing is sloppy. main plot points currently hinge on something that could not have happened. so that sucks.
Also, this book should have been about half the number pages. which is frustrating because the previous book was way too fast/short. so wtf?! get it together, and get an editor please!
but i love a second chance romance and i loved seeing more of carson's life and thoughts and i'm happy i read it.
Ok...First, it takes 4 months for this book to become available. AEW info first started saying July, but it comes our Thanksgiving week? That's just poor info release right there.
2nd.. The tension in this book was fake, soooo very fake. The reasons behind Carson/Jakes leaving are weak & paper thin. Then you have Carson & Eric dancing around each other in a whole you left/you cheated tango but two pages later its all ok because frotting forgives all the bad stuff.
3rd.. Who was Ryan making out with that looked enough like Eric to make Carson think he was cheating? Inquiring minds wanna know.
4th there wasn't any real resolution between Bob & Carson. Either the guy is homophobic for not.
I was really looking forward to this installment, since Carson has been my favorite of the group since day 1. Unfortunately, while this book wasn't bad, the person this book was about didn't feel like the Carson we got to know at all. Obviously, most of it is a facade, but I feel like the pieces didn't really fit. I also didn't feel the chemistry between him and Erik. I feel like Carson and the random male prostitute from book 1 (or was it 2?) would've been a better fit lol.
I did enjoy the familial moments between the crew. Self-made family is one of my favorite tropes, and it was prominent in this book.
However, I was also really looking forward to Leo's book, and it seems that some plot points concerning him and Charlie that have been hinted at have been retconned, which is also disappointing. I've reread the epilogue of book 1 also, and while I can't say with 100% certainty what has changed exactly, I can't say I'm happy with it. I think their relationship has become less antagonistic, which feels a bit cheap because it makes things way easier and thus less exciting. Or maybe it's just that my tastes have changed since starting this series. If anyone knows the changes, feel free to enlighten me!
One of my favorite series, Pros & Cons is a MM version of Leverage and Charlie’s Angels combined. I love it so much and can’t gush enough about how freaking amazing it is. Aside from Leo’s book, which I want yesterday, I’ve been craving more info about who the real Carson is. “I think there was a spot in my heart, in my soul, that belonged always and only to him.” All I can say is Carson and Eric, their emotionally rewarding journey and their intense and wild love are everything I never knew I needed in my life. Also, that Ryan deserves every name he’s called and more. An action-filled adventure that brings us yet ever closer to the mystery of who’s behind it all and what will happen next our incredible band of merry men.
Loving this series and so looking forward to Leo’s story. The mission is more straight forward this time and it was nice to see the real Carson. Eric and Carson were sweet together. The bad guy takedown felt more hands off. I want to see Josie and the mother meet. Favourite parts were the diner and the crew reveal.

I loved this installment in the Pros and Cons franchise. A.E. Wasp knows how to tell a story and build a series. While it's not 100% necessary to read the other books first, you really should, because 1) they'll help you understand the interactions between recurring characters, 2) you'll better understand the story arc, including the epilogue, and 3) they're really good. But where the other books were grand capers, this one shows how hard it really is to go home again after a long absence. It's about dealing with the wreckage from the past, and finding that home within ourselves. How the characters navigate that journey is by turns funny, poignant, and frustrating, but always entertaining.
I was looking forward to Carson's book since the series began, and while I did enjoy his books, it didn't quite deliver what I expected.
Content warnings include: blackmail, sex on-page, lots of criminal energy, SWAT team raid, lack of respect in an established relationship (not main couple), mentions of sexual harassment of minors and abuse, homophobia, getting kicked out for being gay.
For one, there isn't really a job this time around. Which would have been fine, except the motivation for why there was no job wasn't explored enough to really make it make sense. I get that this is more of a light-hearted series that doesn't go too deep in any direction, and I enjoy the cast and their interactions immensely, but I still found myself wanting more. This was emphasized by the pacing, which was surprisingly slow in the first half, just to be excessively fast towards the end.
One reason I was looking forward to this one so much was that I was fascinated by Carson himself, his skills and the personas he can build. There was pretty much none of that in Pros & Cons of Betrayal. I'm not sure if this was because of the plot not including a job, and it being more about Carson finding back to his roots and exploring who he is behind the Carson Grieves Persona, but also partly because reading from his POV took away the mystery.
Another big issue that I had was that the editing in this was atrocious. I do not mind a typo or two, but this was really bad. There were a ton of missed words, typos, grammar errors and several continuity errors, especially close to the end. At least the ebook formatting was without issues.
I nevertheless didn't have a bad time at all. I enjoy this series a lot, and I'm curious and excited for the next book, Pros & Cons of Obsession.
Lastly I want to mention that there is a side character with Down Syndrome. I cannot reliably comment of how well this was handled. It overall seemed fine and respectful to me, though there were a couple instances where I wasn't sure.
Every new instalment makes me love this series more! The concept is great: five criminals are blackmailed by a dead con artist (Charlie) to get together to finish his "unfinished jobs", which always seems to mean righting wrongs. Each job will be headed by one of the MCs. Only in this case, the scenario is slightly different: Carson was sort of Charlie’s protégé and he is not actually being blackmailed. Just sort of “emotionally” blackmailed … And his “job” is to go back to his family and his first love, whom he has not seen in 15 years. Of course, while the crew is actually there for “Operation Get Carson Laid” (aptly named by Breck), they also find some bad guys to take down and the usual action is ensured. So, no worries, it’s not just a great second-hand romance, but also a great espionage one. The crew is now becoming closer ad closer, a chosen family of sorts, as most of the characters lack the family they're born into, for one reason or another. I am both excited and saddened for next book, which will be Leo’s and (sob) the last one in the series!
I'm so hooked on this series and to say that I was excited to finally put my eyes on Pros&Cons of Betrayal would be a huge understatement. It was awesome to be involved again in Charlie's scheming and be part of the fantastic team he's brought together.
This installment put Carson under the spotlight. His assignment might not have been as dangerous as some of the others' but it forced him to face his worst fears: his past and the man he'd left behind. I loved getting into Carson's mind, seeing what made him tick, his thoughts and feelings. And one thing's for sure, nothing made his chameleon facade crack and show his vulnerable spots like Eric did. There were undoubtedly strong feelings between the two men, but did Carson deserve a second chance? I definitely crossed my fingers hoping for a happy ending for Carson and Eric.
And that ending?!? Brilliant! I have so many things buzzing through my brain right now, so I only hope the author doesn't wait long to publish the next book, because I need answers!
Fear and anger, lies and fears, round and round... This one's True Love long lost, and the reasons are intensely character-driven. I enjoyed it. And oh boy that epilogue!
However.
Kelpie Press needs to hire better line editors. There are missing words, but far worse, twice Ridge is referred to as Breck, and there are many instances of paragraphing fails during dialogues, which is even more confusing when there are more than two speakers. Tsk, I say. TSK.
Finally we have Carson’s story. Most of the story was not as exciting as previous books, but towards the end there was one hell of a twisted plot surprise! Loving this series. The next book should be Leo’s story. That is the one I’ve been waiting for.
Oh this was good. I enjoyed it more than the last book although the mystery was nearly not there. I had not really an opinion about Carson before this book but I really liked him. And Eric was perfect for him.
Forgot how badly edited this was. Not horrible but many words left out, names switched.
Carson’s story
Enjoyed this as much as previous but I guess I was expecting more after the end of the last book. Not the action or suspense and I didn’t really get what was accomplished by the ending. I do have high expectations for Leo’s book.
I love it!❤
Doch … Moment …
Was ist nun mit Leo?
Ach ja:
Seine Geschichte können wir ab dem 10. Februar 2022 lesen!
Zum Inhalt: Mein Name? Nennt mich Carson Grieves.
It really irks me when authors don't edit/proofread their work before publishing. Throughout this entire series (Pros and Cons), there have been dozens of missing words, incorrect verb tenses, poor grammar, and punctuation errors. Also, while the characters are interesting and even endearing to a great extent, their romantic/sexual encounters take precedent over the development of the underlying story. In this particular installment, the author seems to forget what plans she has laid out for her characters and completely omits events that were supposed to take place. For instance, in Chapter 12, Maddie meets Danny in Eric's office. She gets up to leave and tells Danny to come with her to fill out his employment application. But instead, she stays behind, closes the office door, and berates Eric. DUH! The author wrote that Danny was to follow Maddie but she stays behind without Danny. NEXT, What happened to the big Sunday dinner that was planned with everyone attending? This would have been the first time Carson/Karl would have seen his stepdad (who he blamed for all of his problems) in 15 years! This would have been an epic chance for confrontation and drama. But the author completely ignores the event as if it were never mentioned. However, the biggest WTH moment is when the author establishes that the Saturday following the golf event, Eric and Carson/Karl spend the entire day and night together. The next morning as the guys are leaving Eric's house, Carson/Karl's mom is waiting in the driveway for him. She tells him to get in the car and run errands with her. They go to the post office and into the bank. THIS IS ON A SUNDAY! NO post offices or banks are open on Sundays!! The author forgets where she puts her characters! It's aggravating when an author is incongruous with their storytelling. Also, the end of the story doesn't give you any real sense of closure with Eric and Carson/Karl. And what happened to Ryan? Very disappointing.
So, not to give anything away, but there is a HUGE surprise at the end of this book and it does end on a cliffhanger. I have to say, I had a feeling this was what was going to happen, and that the people behind the scenes were in this all along. So, I’m not surprised but yet I am, if that makes sense. I hope the final book comes soon, because with the way this ended. Yeah, not a happy camper. I’ve been waiting for Carson’s story. He’s always been so quiet and close mouthed about his past that I wasn’t sure what to expect. I figured, honestly, for it to be worse than what it was. Not saying that it didn’t have it’s bad moments, but with the way everyone else’s stories had been, I wasn’t sure of what to expect with Carson. I like how his story is though. Because I do have to agree with Charlie in this one. Although Charlie’s methods stink to high heaven, Carson needed to go back home and deal with everything. Finally. What really got me in this one too, is that Carson has always kind of been on the outside of this whole group. Keeping himself apart from the rest. But when he needed them, they showed him he was still family to them. Granted, he was the quieter one, and one they didn’t know much about until now, but they still loved him, in their ways. He was still a part of them. And I love that Carson was finally getting how much he really meant to people. Even his own mother. And that was funny in itself. Being a mother, I would have probably acted the same way. It’s a good story. You don’t want to put it down like the others. You never are quite sure how things are going to turn out or which way they are going to go. And it’s nice to see how they are turning out. To a point. There’s danger at every turn for them right now, and with this ending, there’s going to be more coming. But it’s a great set of books. I hope book 5 is coming quickly.
